    He is such a lovely and gentle soul. I keep thinking that maybe his true purpose wasn't music, but rather it was to endure loss and ridicule in order to achieve the level of grace that he has. Fame and success are fickle and their gains are only material; but a soul and its fruits last forever. And he has one beautiful soul that was forged and refined by the fire. No one can take that away from him.

    Coming from a Heavy Metal fan at heart, I have to honestly say that Fab is a really cool guy and I actually fully sympathize for both him as well as Rob (RIP) and I refuse to find them directly at fault for what went down during that era. This situation that they found themselves in was in many ways a classic example of the "bait/switch" tactics that many of those involved in this business will attempt to pull upon many aspiring young artist and/or bands alike. As far as Rob and Fab were concerned, they were two guys whom, just like all the rest of us, all they were trying to do was pursue their hopes and dreams while working to make their ends meet. And unfortunately for them, they got taken advantage of, got thrusted into this vicious circle of deception, orchestrated and conducted by the producer (that being of course Frank Farian) and got branded as the scapegoats in what would ultimately culminate into one of the biggest, if not so surprising scandals in music history. And do note that this was not the first time in which the real mastermind behind this scheme (that being the said producer) pulled off these particular "smoke and mirror" tactics -if you will, where he would have somebody serve as the front prop or quote-on-quote: "lip-sync", while the musicians and singers themselves are doing what they do in the background.
    I think if there is one sobering outcome that did emerge in the aftermath of this revelation that it became, it served to exposed just how seedy, manipulative, toxic and dangerous the music and recording industry truly is (and that goes for the entire entertainment industry in general). Basically like a giant bone grinding machine in itself, one that will literally cut anybody right down to size and spit them out, regardless of their status. No matter what particular genre you come from from, whether it's Heavy Metal (especially all it's corresponding subgenres), Country, Classic/Hard/Southern Rock, Alternative, Punk, Rap, R&B or what have you, if you're looking to score that big recording contract you dreamed of so much and pursue that career in music that you hope to make it in, you should always be very careful and actually read the terms of the contract word by word. And be sure you have a good legal advisor to represent you should something go wrong during the negotiation process. Because those very same people who hand you that very contract and have you sign it from one line to the next, might be the ones who are laying down those traps and will ultimately be the ones who will rip you off in broad daylight, take advantage and force you to do something that you know is probably not right (just as what happened here when both Fab and Rob were forced to lip-sync on MV's "All Or Nothing" -released as "Girl You Know It's True" here in the US and North America) if you let them. And a lot of bands and artists had their careers ended as a consequence of this. Why have so many "one hit wonders" and "best new artist" Grammy winners just suddenly vanish after that first LP, or that lousy hit single they put out to the public? Simple: because they got taken advantage of and ripped off by the industry just as what happened to Rob & Fab. Further, as far as this whole issue of artists lip-syncing in their live shows goes, you also have to ask yourself; how many others cooked up something like this in the past way before MV and got away with it? How long has it been going on and not to mention who else is still doing it, even today?? I think that anyone who has that ability to look beyond the surface and pull that big curtain back can ultimately judge the results for themselves.
    That said, I think Fab was well on point in this very insightful interview. Greatly hope he is doing well and wish him the best.
    🤘🏻😎

      The actual recording may have done okay on its own, but not to the extreme level that it accomplished with Rob & Fab being the representation of Milli Vanilli in the flesh.

      And that's why crooked execs keep running their game. The CEOs pull the strings but the artists take the fall because that's who the public sees. It's easy to forget that celebrities are not really in control even though it's their image everywhere. Some artists don't even have control over their own photos or music. Being famous doesn't mean you get to keep the money either. They dress you up and stand you out in public but if you have a bad contract, you go back to being poor when you leave the stage.

      Rob & Fab were easy scapegoats because they were the guys in the front lines and Farian, like Chris Brown, took a bit of a hit the first few years, but garnered success again, even in America, into the late 1990’s with more dance acts like La Bouche and No Mercy. Farian was one of the most powerful people in the whole German music industry, so it didn’t hurt him that much ultimately. When people think of a musical act, they always focus on the performer first, not the producer doing everything behind the scenes.

    • @cfran671

      It hurt me to see how the media treated these guys. Pure evil! Frank and the media have blood on their hands!

    • @clopper3753
      @clopper3753 3 года назад +7

      It was basically Franks scheme. He got away with it with Boney M. He wanted to dip his paw again in the well of success and milk that money cow machine once more, just looking for the right "gimmick". Eventually it became too big and blew up in everyone's faces who was involved.
      However the real victims are Fab & Rob. No question about it. At that time, in that musical landscape, being young, naive and gullible, believing everything what was told to them or more to say, "do this or you're fired", they really no had no part in any of it. They were just two pawns that people behind the scenes used for their own gain. That's it.
      And sadly at the time in the late 80's early 90's, being the front guys they took all the blame as well, when really nothing of it was their fault. They basically followed orders so to speak.
      They eventually spoke up and stood their ground too it, and that is when Frank Farian said: "Ok, so i will destroy my creation and expose everything! I told you not to F with me!!!".
      In my book they were/are heroes who sacrificed everything for the truth.
      Rob RIP brother. Fab... Keep going strong brother! Saw you live back in 2018 on your tour through Europe and the irony of it is that you sing better live than the "Real Milli Vanilli"!
      Keep going strong!

      Mark Gibson Hey Mark, I’m with u on the victim thing and color but not in this situation . This isn’t about color. This was exploitation and they’re not 100 pct victims but if it’s true what Fab said about the contract they signed, they’re the victims. They were pawns

      I am 42, and remember when this all went down like it was yesterday. I was crushed. I was also far too young and naive to even remotely realize or understand what was really going on. My gf and I would sit in her room, in front of her day bed (huge in the 80’s and early 90’s), eating our candy we bought with change at Zaire’s (huge in the 80’s) and sing along to their tracks. God damn did we love them, and what a dope time to be alive especially musically. Then, Rob ‘committed suicide’. And I was even more crushed. I still didn’t understand what it all meant though, or what was behind it all. This interview is so good. Fab is such a genuine, kind eyed, humble human. Really enjoying watching this, in my ‘non day bed’, drinking lemonade- thinking back on those 80’s days.

    I was one of those people who had no time for Milli Vanilli after it came out that they did not even sing on their album. I was roasting them at any given opportunity. I wish they were given a chance back then to actually tell their story.
    Great insight and interview. He'll get the success he deserves no doubt.

      Especially when every singer from Beyonce to Michael Bublé lip syncs. They just do it to their own tracks. Ashlee Simpson was treated unfairly as well. She was lip syncing to her own vocals and it skipped on SNL. Her career was tanked. It wasn't right.

      @@Moonewitch - Right?! 😬 I felt pretty bad for her too. To be fair though, most people expect live music, on a live show like that. Nevertheless, she was NOT the 1st star to lip sync to music by any means, and so the backlash she received was irrational & unwarranted.

    I grew up with their music. I feel sorry for these beautiful men. They got trapped in such dishonest situation created by Frank Farian, that monster. Because of his evil doing, that had caused Rob's death. Sad. Thanks for this interview. I really believe Fab and Rob were genuine musicians who were trying their luck. God bless Fab!

      Someone should do a movie biopic on the story. Brad Pitt and George Clooney should play the lead roles.

    My heart breaks for what these two men went through. And even more sad and sorry that it cost Rob his life. Frank Farian belongs in prison. Period. For all the lives he impacted and the lives he stole. From Boney M to Rob and Fab, who knows who else he broke along the way.

    It was not about singing, it was about delivering. These guys were the two most beautiful man on the planet, their appearance, their looks, their dancing WERE Milli Vanilli. They should`ve sued everybody that tricked them into this and keep the Milli Vanilli brand going. It would`ve been different. Rob wouldn`t be dead.... I don`t care who was singing, these are the real Milli Vanilli and I love them till this day. And I`m not even a part of that generation.

      They tried to keep the brand going on both sides. The producer put out the wack ass group the real milli vanilli because he already had the second album done with them. It didn't work because as you said the delivery was wrong. And Rob and Fab did come out as a group called Rob and Fab. But like Fab said Rob was too heavy into drugs and couldn't recover enough to perform.

    • @Dingoleh2
      @Dingoleh2 5 лет назад +10

      And the company they were under was too big to sue. Also the contract they signed held them partly liable in the whole situation. Again like Fab said they got played and we're stuck.
