- The M1 MacBook Pro 14 Two Week Review: small in size but not in features. In this review I talk about how awesome this entry level (base spec) MacBook M1 Pro is!
See the best OLED Offers: bit.ly/Spawnpoiint_BestDeals AD
The 2021 M1 Pro includes a brighter screen, new ports, better battery and incredible power! Plus why I think the M1 Pro 14 is probably the best value for money model to buy this year.
I’ve exclusively used the 14 to edit photos in Lightroom and create videos in Final Cut Pro over the last week, and can safely say it’s more than enough for most tasks. I’ll also compare it to the 16 M1 Max (exporting speed and screen size) as well as going over the pros and cons of the 14.
Thanks for watching, Chris.

Spawn mate…… I been out with the big gun camera today (fuji xt4)
Pain in the assame getting it together (still learning the ropes!!!!)
My mind is leading me your way and just use the iPhone 12
The fact that you shoot all these on just an iPhone is mind blowing, love all your videos ❤️
Thank you 🙏
@Jackson Boon this guy is the real deal, every single video is shot on an iPhone, you can check out his video on it
@@SpawnPoiint you really did shoot the entire video on an iPhone?
shessssh he's different!!!!
@@SpawnPoiint which iPhone do you shoot on?
I've been using the OG 15" MaBook Pro Retina for nearly 10 years now and as my decade closes, I upgraded to the 14" M1 Max MacBook Pro. I've always been envious of the portability of the 13" MBP models of past years, but could never sacrifice the dedicated GPU in the larger model. The new 14" is almost exactly what I dreamed of in terms of fulfilling the desires of a more portable machine, while being as massively powerful as the larger model. In terms of screen real estate, it's super easy to choose a slightly smaller scaling setting in the MacOS display preferences to digitally make up for the reduced physical space and I think that provide enough utility for me to not feel like I'm missing anything by not going with the 16" model.
OG retina crew unite.. It was an amazing machine for almost 10 years for me as well. RIP
Agree, I went from a late 2013 MBP 15" to a 2021 14", even in base model it's so much better! Yes the display settings can certainly compensate for reduced real estate, very happy with the 14"
This comment helped a lot in deciding which one I get. I'm currently using a 15" 2012 MacBook Pro Retina and wanting to upgrade to a 2021 (finally).
@@legjakabb The crazy thing is that my OG Retina is still alive and running and pretty much can still do anything. It's not as fast as a modern machine, but it still kicks.
The 15" retina was 2880 x 1800 pixels. The 14" is 3024 x 1964. You gain actual pixels. Last year's 16" macbook pro was 3072 x 1920 so you almost have the same resolution as the outgoing 16" macbook pro on the new 14" macbook pro
I love that your reviews are based on personal experiences - like what you said about the LG TV being the best TV you've ever owned - or how the bigger macbook and iphone screens suit your workflow better. I appreciate the fact that you don't make it about specs and geekbench scores but about your personal experience with the product
Thank you mate. I appreciate that. Believe me, I’m not a ‘RUclipsr’, I’m just a guy that buys things, uses them, then makes a video haha. I’m pleased you’ve seen that in my videos.
@@SpawnPoiintwe appreciate the reviews you do, thank you mate
Watching this on the 14" Macbook Pro... This is my first ever MacBook and wow this device is beautiful and just amazing, and every time I book it up the screen blows me away each time
Still love how your reviews always show real life practicality. Along with depth and anything we could think of, you took care of in the review. Still think you’re super underrated! Keep it up! ❤️
Thank you for the support 🙏
That was a cute touch, having your Missus help you with the sound/speaker demonstration. Great vid as usual 😉
haha thanks mate.
Great video mate! High quality as always! I just ordered a silver 16” last week and can’t wait for it. The decision was so hard but I’m mostly gonna have it in my home and the small boost in price was nothing since I hope that will keep me away from an external monitor and everything that comes with a desktop setup 😅
Looking at your production with just an iPhone and how clean the reels and b-rolls, I'm surprised you don't get more subs. Great content, keep it up Chris!
Love the screen size on the 16”, but ultimately went 14” for myself. I think either way, I wouldn’t have any regrets. And super impressed to know you shot this on your iPhone, great work!
Your reviews are always the cleanest! Subscribed
Thanks for supporting the channel!
Just looking for my next Mac so this was very useful, thank you.
14" M1 Pro MBP, 10c/16g, 16GB/1TB!! 🙌🏼
Great review mate as always! I wouldn't mind the 14" as its a great size, but the extra screen boosted power mode and longer battery life would draw me more to the 16"
That was my thinking too mate. Thank you too.
Same here! I personally got the 16”. Still waiting for it, but it’s going to be quite a jump from a regular 13” that I’m used to.
@@ilyamiskov how are you doing with the 16" do you think it's too big and too heavy or do you get used to it
@@Amine382 I think it is heavy and unwieldy for most people but you get used to it. I personally wouldn’t go for a smaller laptop. I like having a bigger canvas to work with and I’m happy to sacrifice weight for it
A good and concise review. Thank you!
Loved the performance and form factor of 14 inch MacBook Pro. Planning to buy by March 2022.
Following your channel since the days when you had 23k followers. You deserve all the success. Super clean videos as always. God bless
Thanks Harry.
The last Mac I had was the MacBook Air that came out in 2017.. Purchased it in 2019. I decided to treat myself to the MacBook M1 Pro 14in, I plan on using the computer for “light” gameplay footage editing, homework,RUclips, everyday usage etc. The Mac book air I had was a 13.3 inch- and I would like something a tad bit bigger but not big like the 16inch. Although the 16inch screen is nice it’s not something that’s necessarily needed for what I plan on using it for. As for silver or space grey I can’t decide . But super excited to get an updated MacBook. Thanks for the great video!
I'm glad I subscribed. Your videos are always on point and clean. Keep soaring mate!
Thank you William, I appreciate that.
A very nice review thank you, currently use a all in one desktop PC but looking to switch to mac I had been considering the 24 inch all in one desk top but with a change of jobs I am doing more home working and with my current desk set up thinking maybe a screen that I can attach my work and personal laptop to might be a better option. If I did go the laptop route then I think the 14 would be the one I would go for. I do a lot of photo editing and just starting o get into more video.
Very well done video.
Hey I love ur vids
Got me hyped to get mine!
I went for the 14. It has all the power I need and a nice display for travel. I’ll keep it docked at home.
Love this
Great video! The editing + your accent made it very easy and enjoyable to watch
Thanks for the support.
Came across this, really liked your review, subscribed!
Thank you 🙏
Nice review! I have chosen the 14'' inch and 16 RAM. I am happy to see that it can worth it and I can use it in programming tasks :)
Wow man your videos are clean 🧼
They should of added a USB port on the right. Keep the right side ports the same exact as the 2015.
This would eliminate the need for any dongles or adapters completely.
Great content as always!! I bought an LG monitor too and in part because you are loving yours! I am a bit stuck at the moment on what to get. I am running a 2015 15" Macbook pro as an audio recordist, video editor and creative. I love it and will probably keep it for the nostalgia. But it is proving to be way too loud when I am doing studio work and even right now the fans are screaming at me lol. So this is where I need help! Do I - Save up and grab a 14" maybe early next year? Or just grab a mac mini m1 16gb to replace to desktop setup and use the 15" as my portable. I need a laptop as my studio is in the garage and I do arrangements with my band from it. Also I think these new macbooks are perfect for I/O and I don't want to feel like I am sacrificing on that front. Again thanks for the content bro - especially great to see UK content
I love ur room setup
I was waiting for you to drop a video on the new M1 chips! Love it, great work as always
Thank you!
@@SpawnPoiint can’t wait to see what you drop next!
I was on the fence about getting the 16” but after watching this video, I’m definitely getting the 16” inch. Since I won’t be using a desktop.
Cool video keep it up 👍.
I have been waiting for this video
Thanks for watching
Genuinely helpful. Cheers bro
Thank you.
I went for the base 14" model with the 1tb storage upgrade. I think it was worth it, worth the money at least. I don't replace computers very often so this was a big deal for me as until last December my main computer was a 2012 mbp, and that was second hand when i bought it in 2015 so as you can imagine the change has been immense! This 2021 14" is smaller and lighter than the 2012 13" despite having a bigger screen. The only downsides are software issues, some older apps aren't supported on the later versions (Catalina and later) so the old mac still has a job to do.
I enjoyed your video, thanks.
Perfect! I’m leaning towards it too since my current is a 2014 MBP with 16/256 and I’m constantly moving files around:(
As a creator this was an incredibly helpful review! Thank you!
Great video mate thank you!
Thank you 🙏
16” is my sweet spot. 14” was tempting. Don’t plan on traveling with it. And it wasn’t that much more.
Great Review, thank you! I am pretty much decided on the 14", but do you know what the performance might be to dock it and link this up to one of those super wide 49" displays, like the Samsung G9 or an LG for example?
After watching your video (till the end of course), I’d go for the 14inch if I were to pick one of the two.
I got the 14", but in System Preferences you can change the aspect ratio to make more items fit on the screen... I find that helps a lot to make the laptop screen more usable. Scaled --> More Space
yes, do the same on the 16" and it's a game changer.
Really awesome review man!
Thank you mate
I have the 14 inch traded in my M1 134 inch pro and I don't regret it this screen is amazing and is easy to cary around no problems
How’s the thermals and fan noise been?
love how it looks like the old powerbooks
I really enjoy your videos! they're so informative. Hmmm... do you think the latest Macbook Air would be good to edit videos?
Best comparison and review. I will go for 16inch.
Great review and video! I went with the 14 inch M1 with 16 ram and 494gb storage. Great machine!
thanks for the another great vid. A bit random, but I really like your black and wood shelves... could you post a link where you got these from? thanks :-)
Thanks for the video! Coming from the 2017 15" MacBook Pro, the 14" M1 Pro was the way to go for me. I love the portability of the new machine compared to my old one. The only reason I went with the 15" in the past was for the dedicated graphics card, but that's a moot point now as the M1 Pro 16 core GPU destroys my old Radeon Pro 560.
Great choice too mate
@@SpawnPoiint thanks!
I went with the base model 14 inch, no regrets, very happy with it
Great choice, I'm really impressed by it.
I have been trying to decide which MacBook Pro to purchase and almost every single video is about creating videos which I do not do but your video is only the second one that I have actually been able to partially comprehend since I do not create videos. After watching this video I believe the MacBook Pro for me is the 14” MacBook Pro. Thank you for making this video and using simpler wording so someone at my level can get at least some idea of whether the specs of the M1 MacBook Pro are for me! Thank you, SpawnPoiint.
That's awesome! Thanks for the feedback too.
Your videos are beyond incredible. I still love my M1 MacBook Pro 13" but damn that 14" is calling out my name!
Haha thanks mate
I’m holding on to my M1 13” as it’s still an amazing laptop
Currenlty rocking an Intel 16". Debating whether I'd miss the screen real estate going for the 14" but really considering it.
Thanks for the video!
I’m usually connected to a monitor when I’m working and the 16in isn’t portable imo which defeats the purpose of having a portable PC.
Great video! Im thinking of getting the 14 inch for video editing on the go.. Already have a great pc at home, current laptop is able to withstand 15 minutes without being plugged in 😅
finally picked up an M1 Pro 14in to replace my Pro I messed up last year and I love this thing
Fantastic mate
Thank you 🙏
I checked 30-40 videos about macbook pro 14 and I can tell you this is the best. Congratulations. (Especially 00:2:08 Thx)
Thank you for the feedback 🙏
I tried the 14” first, but that 16” is just, wow. I LOVE it!!! Going from the 13” to the 14” wasn’t enough for me. Felt cramped.
agree. the 16 is pretty amazing.
I had a 13” 2015. Glad i went 16”. No regrets.
Same, i had the 14" but sold it as i felt it was too cramped. That notch was the nail in the hammer, it was all i was looking at. Got the 16" and haven't looked back.
Great review! BTW, what is the clamshell stand you use for the 14' is it compatible with 16' as well?
Great review!!! 👍🏻
Thank you 🙏
I think this is the perfect size, THough I know got used to my 13inch MBP 2020, this can be better!, Anything bigger can be a little hassle for mobility
Had the 14" but it felt super cramped. I thought maybe 16" but was concerned as everybody was complaining about it's weight. Bought the 16" have never looked back and it doesn't weigh much at all, definitely still a portable device by a mile.
What a soothing review
Thanks for watching
Great review, loving the MacBook
Thank you!
I bought the 14" base model, but over the last couple of weeks of owning it can't help but to think that I should have gotten a bigger screen. It's an amazing laptop all-around, but the 16" seems like a better value all-around considering that even spec for spec it is still higher performing, stays cooler and the screen is just superb. Granted this is my primary editing screen as I don't like to rely on external displays
did you end up changing it? what macbook do you have now?
go for bigger screen if that ur desktop replacement. For people that own a desktop with multi screens like me, I prefer a 14" for portability and I mirror to my 27inch 4K screen anyway.
Its 2” and 1000$ difference and the bigger one is not so handy to go to a library with a handful of a machine 😂
If I had a choice, I would definitely pick up the 14 inch version solely for the portability aspect.
Good thinking... when you are a student or doing a lot of things remotely.
Dam man your desks so sleek wit the ps5!
Wow man this is the best
Thank you so mych
Over the last 5 yesrs I’ve gone: MacBook 12” to MacBook Air 13 to MacBook Pro 15 to MacBook Pro 16 (with a MacBook Air M1 for travel).. and now yesterday just ordered the baseline MacBook Pro 14 aiming for that as the only machine going forward. I’m not doing video/photo editing, mainly ICT process-design, architecture and documentation.
Ordered base 16" yesterday.
I'm getting the 14" base model. Those MacBooks are the best laptop in almost every aspect (apart from gaming)
I bought the 13" M1 MBP in 2020 but just recently upgraded to the base model 14" MBP. I had more than enough power with the M1 for my workflow which is just streaming, web browsing and school work so the M1 Pro is definitely overkill but I really wanted the ports and the mini-LED screen. So far I am loving the new 14" and it does everything I need my laptop to do and I feel like it is future proofed for at least the next 5-6 years.
Same here I have the air and I love it. It handles everything even video editing on davincci resolve with no problem. But I wanted bigger screen but no t to big. And more ports. This is the perfect size.
I am looking forward to the get the 14 inch with a 1TB and 16 Gigs of ram with 10 core. I will use it for business and photo editing.
I still can’t decide but since I edit all day on my laptop I think I should do 16inch. I haven’t even been doing a lot of traveling lately so wish me luck lol
If i want to buy ill buy 16 inches m1 max and max specs 64gb rams
Let us know what u decide on
unless you have lots of money to spend I'd be careful with the specs. you don't necessarily need the M1 max or 32gb ram for good performance. if you're editing videos or photos I would take the 16 inch base model
@@chriskindler10 Thank you, yes you are right I think base model will work just fine!
Do the 16” and add 1TB. Then you’ll be set, ya dig!
I'm buying exactly this model.
Another Outstanding Apple M1 MacBook Pro 14" Review by you Sir....😝😝👻👽
@spawnpoint, I challenge you to make a Video using ONLY the Macbook pro 14.... including filming!! Also I see you using that iPhone 13 macro lens!! Great video as always!
Thank you. I’m not sure how I can file on the MBP itself, that’s a challenge I’d fail at 😂
Hello ! ... what iPhone app do you use to shoot video with ? ... some shots have such a nice blurred background and the focus is just amazing ... also, what stabilizer do you have the phone mounted on ? thanks.
I feel like these machines are overkill for me but I want one for the screen alone. I’d like to start making RUclips videos myself though.
Amazing machine
Great video, Im wondering should I buy apple care plus, as in my country it costs around 350$...so i was thinking to spend that money on ram or storage or in apple care..as my budget is very tight

fantastic video again as always dude but its been out 12 days not 14 lol :P
I currently have an M1 Air 16gb and M1 Mac mini 16gb...I have both devices as I need portable options however, when I use to plug my M1 Air into 2 x external displays (a 49inc ultra wide Samsung and a portrait 24inch) then when running Teams, safari, outlook and a few excels and PowerPoints, it started to become quiet slow and laggy and then when on a Teams call, I couldn't really do anything.
I want to replace both and just have a single device however, will the base model be enough to do all or do I need to upgrade to the 10 Cora or the 32GB ram - thoughts please?
I’m enjoying max settings on blizzard games on the base model 14”, doesn’t miss a beat and so capable; should be a great laptop for years
What games do you run?
Thank you!!! I was thinking of getting the 13” old version, but I’m sold on the new 14”!!! Especially since it does have the new M1 chip that I’ve heard works so good!!!
‘13 inch had M1 too
M1 not m1 pro@@mr.international23
I think the base 14" is the model to buy, maybe upgrade the storage if you need more, but if you're starting to spend more money upgrading the CPU/GPU, it's time to see if the $200 to make the jump to 16" will be worth it because having more storage or more screen will be far more noticeable than having two more CPU/GPU cores.
You cannot upgrade storage, everything is unified
So do i need 32gb ram to stream nintendo switch with OBS and elgato? OR would the base model 14inch be fine?
I'd go for 14 because of portability tbh. Also what's the song you were playing during the speakers demo?
I like the 13 inches thickness for travel but the 14 inches is much better but thicker ugh! Thanks for the review .
For 90% of people, this IS definitely the one to buy! I agree 100%
Thanks for stopping by mate.
Great job man. Is the fan noise very noticeable on the 14 inch model? Because my work requires system virtualization so I can have up to 3 operating systems at the same time and I don't want to have the sound of an airplane when I'm working.
Is the base version of 14" worth for a programmer/Developer or should I stick with the air?
