I always thought that Chris was a consistently great boss. There’s so many times where he shows integrity and thoughtfulness, it really rounded out his hyper persona into a genuinely good character.

I don't know why but I just love the interaction between Chris and Ron in the end. Maybe because we never see Chris this serious and Ron can't fight him. It was a great interaction between the two.
Because it's real and well earned. So often we have to see everyone intimidated by Ron and caving into him. It's refreshing and necessary to see him put in his place once in a while.
Concerning the Tom thing...I think Ron is right. Too many Americans are too uncomfortable facing the fact that their food used to be alive. I really think that's something children should be made properly aware of.

The occasional “Ron being taught a lesson” stuff was always nice to see, showed he wasn’t a perfect figure that always had the answers and knew what to do
It is nice because while the show makes a point of showing how Ron is a principled man who doesn't intrude on others those very same principles and attitudes make him at times self centered and inconsiderate of others. It's why I love his relationship to Diane later on, she was the one person who wasn't afraid to humble Ron and tell him off for it.

I like that throughout the show, everyone has a humbling moment. There are times where characters are right and where characters are wrong and it makes them all a lot more interesting. Chris could've easily been just an annoying boss that was bad at his job and while some of his actions were not great, he still was able to show he was capable and caring
As someone living in the Philippines, as a kid my grand parents is fond of cooking and would held "fiestas" annually. They will purchase the pig that will be eaten at least a month, before the event to fatten it up. My siblings and I, along with the other kids would circle up every time the pig is slaughtered. Mind you we were living at a highly urbanized placed at that time.
Honestly think everyone should see an animal they're going to eat at least once in their life. People often don't take a second to realize that they're actually eating an animal. Will help them appreciate what they're eating better
My dad had me do something like that when I was 15. Only difference was it was a cow that I had to personally raise and I had to take her to be processed. As bad as it hurt at that moment, 10 years later, I’m grateful for it for how it helped me grow as a person and give me a greater respect for the lives that perpetuate my own. Ron has a Point, most people don’t know, don’t care or respect where their food comes from, and when you rip away the blinders, they may not thank you for it, but most people don’t thank the the dentist when they pull a cavity out of their mouth.
I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what this episode was about. It's not about Ron being stubborn or wanting to do things his way. We all agree that Ron insisted on having the barbeque his way, and he continues to do things his way long after this episode. And we all also agree that everyone else at the barbeque was doing a lot of whining and complaining for no reason. But that's not the point of the episode, nor was it the point of Ron and Chris' talk at the end. The point is that Ron is the leader of the parks department, and part of being a leader is recognizing that you are part of a team. That's what Ron wasn't doing, and that's why Chris was upset. He didn't show up at the end with a table full of vegetables and desserts, which he hates, just because that's what they wanted. He still gave them a very "Ron Swanson" meal. But the point was that they were happy, and grateful that he did it, and that was a stark change compared to earlier.
Ron reminds me of my grandpa, the first and last time he ever hugged me was when my dad, his son, died. And that was it 😂 he's never been an affectionate man but he does stuff like this, he built a gazebo in the back yard over night because my grandma wanted something to sit on

The man is literally the head of the Pawnee Parks Department. The BBQ was held in a Pawnee Park (Ramset Park, I'm guessing? There's a song), so that paper has GOT to be legally binding, right? 'I can do what I want,' from the desk of the Parks Department Commissioner, or whatever his official title is... Although I think that might be superceded by either State or Federal laws preventing one from slaughtering an animal in a public park funded by either the State or Fed, so... I dunno. Raising, slaughtering, butchering, cooking and eating your own meat is quite the experience. I raised a hen, collected its eggs until it no longer did so, killed it, prepared it, and cooked it. I gained respect for it. Eating it was a weird form of respect and not letting its death be meaningless and wasted. Also, it was the best damn chicken I have ever tasted. When animals are actually raised well, they taste infinitely better.

The man is literally the head of the Pawnee Parks Department. The BBQ was held in a Pawnee Park (Ramset Park, I'm guessing? There's a song), so that paper has GOT to be legally binding, right?

Although I think that might be superceded by either State or Federal laws preventing one from slaughtering an animal in a public park funded by either the State or Fed, so...

Ron killed his 2 pet cows at a young age and ate them both. He's not afraid to gut a pig in public
Raising, slaughtering, butchering, cooking and eating your own meat is quite the experience. I raised a hen, collected its eggs until it no longer did so, killed it, prepared it, and cooked it. I gained respect for it. Eating it was a weird form of respect and not letting its death be meaningless and wasted. Also, it was the best damn chicken I have ever tasted. When animals are actually raised well, they taste infinitely better.
Ron may not like chris but you can tell from this that he respects him enough to listen to what hes telling him.
