the issue was he lied to cover himself..and he let him fall in as he admits to mike cause he was kinda mad that mike did not let him try to test his wings and go to this meeting alone despite feeling prepared for it so he can maybe one day on his own go up in rank which mike denied cause he felt jim was not ready so jim sorta lets him fall ....its plot my friend context...its not just that he let him fall ..its why he did....and why he lied about it...they both have a point
