Yes Martijn was indeed in Within Temptation in the early years but he got sick and had to quit. Did you know that Martijns brother is still on Within Temptation and married with Sharon Den Adel.
I believe he is officially still a member but he doesnt goes on tour anymore. He takes care of the 3 children he has with Sharon. And they are a couple but I dont think they are married.

@@npinjest7779 If I remember correctly, the keyboard player (and founder) Martijn Westerholt is family of one of the founders of Within Temptation, so that collab is an 'obvious one'. He used to be the keyboard player in WT before the became famous but got 'Pfeifer' and had to be replaced. For Delain, I really really loved their old stuff when they were still a bit more 'commercial' if you will. They just drifted out of my 'taste' (which is NOT to say they got worse, it's just no longer my personal taste as much anymore). But they certainly belong in the same grouping as WT, After Forever (when they still existed), Epica, etc.
Ohw.. and they're REALLY nice people, I once won a 'meet and greet', looooong time ago, when they were still on their first bass player and guitarist ;) Really nice and friendly.

Delain and Sabaton were on the North American tour with Nightwish five years ago (it seems like yesterday) when I attended my first Nightwish concert. Marco joined them for a song at that concert as well.
Marco has been a guest on many Delain songs from the first album. Delain started as a project rather than a band so the first album has all sorts of singers and musicians on it. It was put together by the keyboard player Martijn who had been in Within Temptation and was recovering from a serious medical condition and it was basically a load of his friends and people he knew. He met Charlotte and she wrote much of the lyrics and did a lot of the vocals and after touring it became a band rather than a project. They do have a lot of guests on their albums and Marco is on a bunch of their songs.
According to Marco's autobiography he was also helping the band for some time and managing them a bit, guess that helped them to get out of the project phase to become the band they are today

The Gathering with Marko could be a nice one too, See me in shadow, Frozen, they are all good songs :) We had an incredible tour set in Canada a few years ago with Sabaton, Delain and NIghtwish as main event !!! It was an amazing experience to be there :)
100% agree, those 2 skyrocketed to the top of my favorites list for them immediately on hearing the new album the first time. Charlotte's somehow continued to improve and those songs demonstrate it the best
Also, Charlotte it's very active in her social media (At least at Instagram). She is doing live online performances of songs of her (joining to her Patreon), to take advantage of this weird times without touring. So, she maybe avaliable to get in touch if the idea cross your mind.
Saw them open for Kamelot a few years ago. Awesome. This is a tight nit community as you will find lots of guest appearances and Alyssa shows up a lot as well.

Marko recorded bass guitar tracks for the whole first Delain´s album. And vocals for some songs. Robert van der Loo (the current Epica´s bassist) joined the band for live concerts and stayed for five years (or so). The drummer for studio recordings of the first album was Epica´s current drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek and for guitar tracks they got Ad Sluijter, who used to be Epica´s guitarist before Isaac. Three additional guest vocalists were Liv Kristine (Leaves´ Eyes, Theatre of Tragedy), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), George Oosthoek, who is now growling with Mark Jansen in MaYaN. The female guitarist, who you can see in this live music video, is currently in MaYaN. The keyboard player was in Within Temptation during early years.
If memory serves Marco was one of the band's founding members. He didn't stay with the band after the first album but does tons of guest appearances across their albums. My personal favorite is "Your Body is a Battleground"
These two work so well together. Marko knows what he's doing. And I get SO weirded out seeing him as a duet partner, without his bass or The Beast. But I bet he's in constant demand for duet requests, or sound engineering. I guess we'll have to get to know Delain.

As a huge Delain fan, glad to finally see you taking them on! Honestly one of their best songs recently (without Marko there to distract you!) is Masters of Destiny. If you look at older songs, such as On The Other Side, you will find some very interesting song structure that I'd love to see your take on!

Fun fact: their last album was released in February and is called: "Apocalypse and Chill" they were the last band I got to see live, before this apocalypse started.
You can't imagine the sound I've made when the notification popped up - thank you, Chase, I just got this song out of my head and here we are again, it's going to be with me for another week now 😂 But it's no hardship as it's a fantastic song and I think one of my favorite symphonic metal ballads. I have seen them 6 times in Dallas since 2013, as they love touring the US. Frozen would be a great way to start your Delain journey, from 12 years ago featuring a 19 year old Charlotte. On their first US tour in 2013, they were opening for Kamelot. Most of the crowd hadn’t heard of them before, and they played a great show. I was outside in the smoking area after their set and Charlotte walked out the side door to go the tour bus and everyone outside stood up and gave her a standing ovation, was really cool to see.

I've been a Delain fan for years and have seen them live about 20 times now. My favorite song to hear live is Fire With Fire, especially when Merel was still with them. I was so sad when I heard the news of her leaving, but I'm so excited for her new band! Merel was so great on stage with them, and I really recommend the live recording of Fire With Fire live at Paradiso from their anniversary show!

I really enjoy Delain's work especially when Marko joins them. I was so sorry that guitarist Merel Bechtold left last year. Their big one together, or at least the crowd favourite, is The Gathering and there are a lot of options for it. For pure fun, I like the rendition from Maters of Rock 2017.

We just don't have enough top quality female guitarists on stage these days to show the way to girls coming up. Hope we see her performing again soon... and she and Marko have such a hoot together on stage.

My favorite Marko-Delain song is The Gathering. Can’t top that one, live or album 🥰🥰🥰🥰 Another great Delain song (although Markoless) is We are the Others. The story around the song should be looked up first.
I love Delain. Charlotte Wessels has such a unique voice. I would recommend Masters of Destiny and Burning Bridges. Those two recent songs I think are outstanding display of the talent of the band and her vocals. If you want a lovely ballad, I recommend Ghost Heart House. Great video! Have a damn good day!

Marco can also play the cello. I was at his solo show in Amsterdam (I did an interview with him there for the Nightwish Family). He played cello during that show at some point. And 1,5 year ago I did an interview with Martijn from Delain. Really nice guy and we had a nice talk before their show.
Love Delain! It took me a second go to get into the band. The earlier work and live quality was not so my liking but my sister "dragged" me to that particular tour with Marco from which the video you´ve just seen is and I was blown away by the devlopment in quality and their live presence on stage that they are now my top favorite symphonic metal band beside Nightwish and Epica (yeah they kicked Within Temptation from that place for me ^^ still like Sharon and the rest of guys no worries ^^). Other recommendations from Delain...all live stuff you can get :P some of my favorites are Army of Dolls, My Masquerade, Suckerpunch and Legions of The Lost Great reaction!

You missed out Chase, Delain did a handful of shows with Marco a couple years ago including one at KOKO's in Camden (before it half burnt down). The band originally started out as a side project of Martijn Westerholt in 2002 whilst he was keyboardist for Within Temptation, Charlotte came on board in 2005. At the time it was never meant to be anything more than a studio project, so Martijn filled out the rest of band with guest musicians he knew from touring with WT including Marco, who played bass and heavily contributed to the vocals on their debut album (Lucidity). Marco has been a semi-regular contributor to their albums ever since. One band you really need to check out is the Swedish operatic-symphonic metal band Therion. Their 2007 line up in particular was incredible.
Finnish band kidnapped a singer from Netherlands (Nightwish), so Delain did the obv thing in retribution with Marco. Next Delain suggestion is Masters of Destiny for her voice (not live because of singing overlap) and Suckerpunch (the greatest shampoo commercial ever, also studio version).
I can recommend Phantasma, The deviant hearts album where she appears. Theres only 1 Phantasma album sadly but I absolutley love that album. Marco by the way started singing/play bass in Tarot alongside his brother and others. The first album Spell of Iron came out 1986. He's still officially in Tarot but its been put on hiatus.

Their first album had a lot of guests vocals and has songs that are still on my top, that whenever they come into my playlist I have goosebumps because of the feels. I think that because of their collabs they really took off and I'm so glad they are in the place they are now, among the best. I've seen people recommending Ayreon, and that's a whole new world, a new rabbit hole to explore, and would be interesting to see your takes on that.
Hell yeah! I go back and forth between which is my favourite, Nightwish have more complex songs and arrangements but Delain have a real talent for great melodies and catchy songs. Just enjoy them both.

I am a big fan of Delain and seen them live on two occasions. As to the next song to react to it's difficult as there are so many. One thing I would say is that if you decide to react to 'We are the Others' at some point, then please look up the back story. It was written following a shocking crime that happened in Britain and it took a Dutch band to write a song about it.

Three additional guest vocalists were Liv Kristine (Leaves´ Eyes, Theatre of Tragedy), Sharon den Adel (Within Temptation), George Oosthoek, who is now growling with Mark Jansen in MaYaN. The female guitarist, who you can see in this live music video, is currently in MaYaN. The keyboard player was in Within Temptation during early years.
If memory serves Marco was one of the band's founding members. He didn't stay with the band after the first album but does tons of guest appearances across their albums. My personal favorite is "Your Body is a Battleground"
These two work so well together. Marko knows what he's doing. And I get SO weirded out seeing him as a duet partner, without his bass or The Beast. But I bet he's in constant demand for duet requests, or sound engineering.
I guess we'll have to get to know Delain.

As a huge Delain fan, glad to finally see you taking them on! Honestly one of their best songs recently (without Marko there to distract you!) is Masters of Destiny. If you look at older songs, such as On The Other Side, you will find some very interesting song structure that I'd love to see your take on!

I have seen them 6 times in Dallas since 2013, as they love touring the US. Frozen would be a great way to start your Delain journey, from 12 years ago featuring a 19 year old Charlotte. On their first US tour in 2013, they were opening for Kamelot. Most of the crowd hadn’t heard of them before, and they played a great show. I was outside in the smoking area after their set and Charlotte walked out the side door to go the tour bus and everyone outside stood up and gave her a standing ovation, was really cool to see.

I've been a Delain fan for years and have seen them live about 20 times now. My favorite song to hear live is Fire With Fire, especially when Merel was still with them. I was so sad when I heard the news of her leaving, but I'm so excited for her new band!
Merel was so great on stage with them, and I really recommend the live recording of Fire With Fire live at Paradiso from their anniversary show!

"Masters of Destiny" is probably one of Delain's most impressive songs, I highly recommend it.
Came to listen to this again today having heard that Delain has split, and that it will continue on as a solo project under Martijin Westerholt (keyboardist).
I really enjoy Delain's work especially when Marko joins them. I was so sorry that guitarist Merel Bechtold left last year. Their big one together, or at least the crowd favourite, is The Gathering and there are a lot of options for it. For pure fun, I like the rendition from Maters of Rock 2017.

We just don't have enough top quality female guitarists on stage these days to show the way to girls coming up. Hope we see her performing again soon... and she and Marko have such a hoot together on stage.

I love Delain. Charlotte Wessels has such a unique voice. I would recommend Masters of Destiny and Burning Bridges. Those two recent songs I think are outstanding display of the talent of the band and her vocals. If you want a lovely ballad, I recommend Ghost Heart House.

Love Delain! It took me a second go to get into the band. The earlier work and live quality was not so my liking but my sister "dragged" me to that particular tour with Marco from which the video you´ve just seen is and I was blown away by the devlopment in quality and their live presence on stage that they are now my top favorite symphonic metal band beside Nightwish and Epica (yeah they kicked Within Temptation from that place for me ^^ still like Sharon and the rest of guys no worries ^^). Other recommendations from Delain...all live stuff you can get :P some of my favorites are Army of Dolls, My Masquerade, Suckerpunch and Legions of The Lost

You missed out Chase, Delain did a handful of shows with Marco a couple years ago including one at KOKO's in Camden (before it half burnt down).
The band originally started out as a side project of Martijn Westerholt in 2002 whilst he was keyboardist for Within Temptation, Charlotte came on board in 2005. At the time it was never meant to be anything more than a studio project, so Martijn filled out the rest of band with guest musicians he knew from touring with WT including Marco, who played bass and heavily contributed to the vocals on their debut album (Lucidity). Marco has been a semi-regular contributor to their albums ever since.
One band you really need to check out is the Swedish operatic-symphonic metal band Therion. Their 2007 line up in particular was incredible.

Finnish band kidnapped a singer from Netherlands (Nightwish), so Delain did the obv thing in retribution with Marco.
Next Delain suggestion is Masters of Destiny for her voice (not live because of singing overlap) and Suckerpunch (the greatest shampoo commercial ever, also studio version).

I can recommend Phantasma, The deviant hearts album where she appears. Theres only 1 Phantasma album sadly but I absolutley love that album. Marco by the way started singing/play bass in Tarot alongside his brother and others. The first album Spell of Iron came out 1986. He's still officially in Tarot but its been put on hiatus.
Marco is a special guest on the new Delain album coming out February 10th, 2023....

Their first album had a lot of guests vocals and has songs that are still on my top, that whenever they come into my playlist I have goosebumps because of the feels. I think that because of their collabs they really took off and I'm so glad they are in the place they are now, among the best.
I've seen people recommending Ayreon, and that's a whole new world, a new rabbit hole to explore, and would be interesting to see your takes on that.
Hell yeah! Delain is my favourite band by far - they're not as "sophisticated" as Nightwish of course but they always got energy in their performances and Charlotte is a sweetheart!😍

I go back and forth between which is my favourite, Nightwish have more complex songs and arrangements but Delain have a real talent for great melodies and catchy songs.

I am a big fan of Delain and seen them live on two occasions. As to the next song to react to it's difficult as there are so many. One thing I would say is that if you decide to react to 'We are the Others' at some point, then please look up the back story. It was written following a shocking crime that happened in Britain and it took a Dutch band to write a song about it.
