Today we will be reviewing the brand new BB29 mic from JZ Microphones! This microphone is based on the classic Blueberry mic from Blue Microphones, and we are very excited to see how it sounds!
This mic is a professional single-membrane large diaphragm condenser microphone. It is also handcrafted, and comes in a beautifully designed, all-metal body. In the BB29, JZ microphones took their handcrafted Golden Drop Capsule and paired it with a carefully designed transformer-coupled output. Now you have two things working together towards one goal: to stand out!
The BB29’s new capsule’s unique sonic signature lets you redefine your tone and find your own voice, while the innovative, precisely crafted transformer coupled output puts your track at the front of any mix.
To test out this microphone, we recorded a cover of “I’ve Got A Feeling” by The Beatles. Special thanks goes to Steve Maggiora for doing the vocals and playing keys, and to Blair Sinta for playing the drums!
I really liked how this mic sounded. It has a lot of girth and thickness to it, but it also has a little bit of crunch!

What would you record with this mic?
It had goodfull body voicing.
The voice over at the radiostation I work
I guess it would be my first choice on acoustic guitar and vocals whenever some air is needed. It sounds bright but without being harsh. I know these are bad terms to describe a particular tone but I'd say it is silky and smooth.
I'd do an acoustic Meat Loaf cover. Maybe 'Out of the Frying Pan'. 🤔
I´m sure I would love to hear a tube distorted telecaster caught by this mic. This recording brings to my ears a really good feeling about this specific aspect of the mic, warm, sparkly, fullness, and clarity at once.
That sounded freakin’ phenomenal! The performance, the recording, the version! Brilliant stuff & and special mention on an outstanding lead vocal! Wow! & Warren you’d love a Casino they’re so inexpensive & incredibly versatile!

Great demonstration. Thank you, Warren. I bought the JZ / Violet The Amethyst after watching your video showcasing this great mic and then additionally doing a blind test on Audio Test Kitchen. I love the mic to the bits.
The BB29 seems to be a good choice to complement the Amethyst or to use for recording situations where the Amethyst is not the perfect match. I like the sound of the BB29 a lot.
Christmas is coming soon, who knows what will be underneath the tree waiting to be unboxed ;-)

Sweet, sweet track gents! Took me right back to 1973 @ WT Grant’s department store in Hempstead NY where I bought LET IT BE for $1.99 [it was a “cutout” album; if you’re not old enough, ask somebody]. Sounds like the mic handled everything well and Steve’s vocal is stunning as usual. I don’t have a rosewood Tele but I do have a G&L ASAT Classic rosewood semi-hollow Tele-style known as “Big Red” I’d have leant you if I lived on the proper coast!

So basically these drums sounds better with one mic than my mix with 8 mics xD
One mic won’t have any phase issues, so often the less is more technique will get your much better results!
Hard to know what the real character of the mic is with this singer. It's not a bad sound...Just not sure where the rasp ends and the condenser begins lol
The mic definitely brought out the rasp!
Plus the additional body makes reminds of a very classic sound!

I don’t understand why more people don’t use BLUE mics. They compete easily with the Neumann and AKG mics that are more commonly found. Sad what Logitech has done to BLUE. I’m glad JZ is keeping some of these designs alive.

Hate to be a Beatles BASS Purist, but you REALLY should've played the BASS with a pick since that is what Sir Paul McCartney used. Of course, I could be wrong, but all the videos I saw here on RUclips of this song showed with his hands in "pick formation" versus using fingers. Anyway....picky, but hey, Jude.... 8-) Oh Yeah....BASS! And JZ Mics of course!
