I have to admit that Nathan is better than Rich... Nathan really get's out that "Something extra" out of the photos, whereas Rich not so much.

Hey Mr. Cool, I'm currently reading your e-book and so far so good. Sometimes it's just good to have text to refer to when needed. I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but it seems that you've slowed your talking down on this video which I think is great. I think most of your videos are very informative but sometimes I think maybe you drank to much coffee but this video is perfect. Thanks for your knowledge and keep up the great work.

Nathan can you help me decipher where I might be making a mistake or detail some of the hazards of my current method?
-AD600
-I usually hit one properly exposed ambient.
-THEN just drop my shutter speed to kill all ambient and darken up windows (something like 1/80 at f11). Take an ambient at that level.
-Turn on flash, and LEAVE my shutter at 1/80 and flash the room (white ceiling)
-In PS, start with dark room.
-Paint on the flash layer in lighten mode.
-Paint in any gaps in the flash with the properly exposed ambient (occasionally having to do a bit of color tweaking)
I get pretty decent results, but occasionally COMPLETELY blow a shot and can't figure out why.
I also have problems with changing the color of the room. Often times "warm" rooms get nuked by the flash and just come out grey when flashed.
I'll definitely check out the e-book, but wanted to see if you could offer me a few base level explanations of why this was a bad method.

Hi Nathan, thanks for the free content of this channel, I'm currently carefully reading your latest book, but what I'm missing - I'm sure it's my fault - is how do you measure flash exposure compensation to dial in... are you using any external flash meter? Thank you.

Thanks, Christian :D I did consider being a real estate agent before. I spent though a good part of my career as a software engineer, and also a writer. I thought one day I might get into being an RE agent, but it is a lot of hard work, and I thought I might get frustrated with it. One day maybe...we'll see.
I love you videos but every time I watch them I cannot seem to figure out how to do the layer mask hide....I don't see anything that says hide.. Sorry if this is an ignorant question but I'm totally new to playing in Photoshop. thank you for the tutorials!

I really like this one stop rule because of the consistency it provides but I’m not getting the method- sorry. If you use manual flash, like a powerful Godox 600AD strobe, when you set the flash power you are dealing with fractions of full power (e.g., 1/8 etc). So I don’t understand when you say set the flash power to match camera exposure how that equates to f11, for example. In other words what power setting do I need on the strobe? Until now I have been using just my eye and the camera histogram for these outdoor fills. Not very scientific but if I bracket the flash power and play with ambient exposure l can eventually get a good combo. Hit and miss, so I’d like a more rational approach. Do I need to get a hand held meter to figure the flash setting to work your system with manual flash? Thanks.

Thank you for the tutorial, one question please. If you reduce the ambient light with you f-stop I.e from f8 to f11, that would also change the flash power, right? So to reduce the ambient light without changing the flash power you have got to use the the camera shutter speed, right? and not the f-stop then? And so your shutter speed could go over 250 so you will have to go with high speed flash, right? How do you do it to reduce your ambient light once the flash is switch on please? Many thanks in advance!
