Want to apply a ceramic coating to your vehicle? 👀
Make sure you don't skip this step!
You have to panel prep the surface to ensure you remove any polish or oil residue.
This will allow the coating to adhere properly to the paintwork.

Hey man I've been watching your videos and really want to get to detailing. What psi for the carpet extractor would you recomend?
The sheer amount of work and chemicals you need for detailing is daunting shudders
That's all f****** b*******
Not for a weekend warrior or just hobby on your cars
It’s definitely not nearly the amount needed to do this stuff as a lot of these videos know. I’ve done it as a hobby for years on my vehicles and have a monthly contract with my day to day employer for our work trucks.
And it's completely unnecessary
I use 50% Isopropyl alcohol and distilled water and that seems to do a pretty good job of stripping any wax or polish off the paint
yeah, this is typically what those ceramic spray preps are made of. it's just as good. key is the distilled water.
What ratio? Do you buy the 70% alcohol or less or higher and then mix the water?
@@exil3dlivecom yes exactly. 50/50. Works Great. Use distilled water or di water
I was JUST THINKING ABOUT THIS!
I literally just went in my kitchen and made me a bottle of my own paint prep with alcohol and DI water ha!
Ohh sweeeet! Saving money is amazing!
Thanks for making this video, i swear down there are tonnes of ceramic coating videos that just don't tell you such a necessary piece of information.
The equivalent to tacking the surface before painting a panel, extremely crucial if you want the best results.
Totally agree with you. I only used the IPA spray on the areas where I saw the left over wax. I just need to spray the whole panel instead, regardless if I see any left over wax or not. I also need better lighting!
Do you wash the car after this? Or do you just go right to the polish and wax?
@alexd2555 You should not wash the vehicle after this because it is precisely the last step before applying the coating, sealant, wax or any protection to the surface so that you obtain greater adhesion and durability.
People, there was no wax involved. It’s polishing compound used to remove light scratches before applying the ceramic. The polish can leave residue
What are you trying to say? Don't apply this spray?
@@chrisginoc No he means it's necessary because polishing leaves a residue UNLESS you use a panel prep polish like Dr. Beasley's NSP polishes.
Rupes Reveal is amazing and smells incredible
@@wescat2yea but not every car needs a polish before the coating
@@CarolCityCane305 Nope. You're right
Thank you for sharing this professional process.
Wax and grease remover you can use window washing spray
there are a few cleansers on the market that allow you to apply coating right over it. no need for the panel prep step as it is a prep in itself allowing the coating to bond to the paint
I wouldnt recommend. An IPA solution is going to be your best cleaner for ceramic coating
yeaup, agreed @@braxalln
Keep up the great work guys. Love the content!
Spray ceramic coating does the job for me after claying and initial wash ofcourse
THANK YOU! You answered my question. There needs to be more content on the specific steps involved in detailing. And why those steps are important and what is not so important.
He says it's necessary, and then he says it's crucial but never says why. I don't see the direct reasoning behind stripping clean surface beforehand. He is the expert.
Surface prep is key
Your a good lad how you explain things.
Love your channel. Is there any harm in being around all those chemicals? Like from inhaling all those sprays.
I have been around the chemicals for years, after awhile you start to glow in the dark😂
Truth is, yes. If you use it a lot like these guys, the wise thing would be to wear a mask. But ofcourse no one does that, including me.
Read the warnings once, a lot of chemicals we use can cause damage to the nerve-system and stuff like that. Uf you use it on a daily base , then it can cost you some healthy years of your life.
Use common sense. If you can smell it, then its bad. Always wear gloves. Never touch it until you're done.
Absolutely there is. Most just don't find out until they retire.
Can you put the list of items to do all steps before ceramic coating it
Would never waste an IPA on my cars paint. 😂😂😂
Shiner Brujas Double IPA - ABV 9.5%
I only got my car a few weeks ago, so there's no scratches or anything wrong with the paint. Can i just wash the car, surface prep, and then add the ceramic coating?
I’ve seen lots of videos, compound and polish then ceramic coating
What brand of ceramic coating should I use and where can I pick some up?
Just use Autoglym rapid ceramic spray
When you go to buy a new car, what actually are you getting for that 1495 ceramic coating. Is it a professional ceramic coating or is it just some crap they just spray on.? How much would a professional application cost?
Doesn't rubbing alcohol or acetone remove everything?
I'm going to apply a water based ceramic Topper to my coated car. Can I use a panel prep before installing it? I don't want to degrade the original coating anymore
I made that mistake on my first ceramic coating.
same here
Was it easily toasted?
Could it be any grease and wax remover?
Whaaat ? IPA and wax and grease remover is same thing?
they do the same thin but ill only use ipa
Can your shirt get bigger and your shorts any smaller?
hell yeah brother. thanks for that!
I was looking for rhis coment before i open my mouth literally lol...i was about to say : Bro you forgot to put your pants when you went to work .
Just asking because I don't know. Why would you polish it to turn around and remove the polish?
All polishes have some form of lubrication in them and the act of polishing is cleaning/improving the condition of the paint. The prep wipe is removing any oils left over from the polishing step that could interfere with the bonding of the coating.
by polishing they mean removing minor scratch
Was going to go with a ceramic spray but had already used a wash and wax. Cbf dealing with that.
I washed my car with dish soap after correcting does this do the same thing?
Why polish it if you just remove it then
Cause polish removes everything left behind like haze, holograms or any left imperfections left by the compound.
Misunderstanding what polish does?
Spray rag s spray body and get product all over windows molding etc
Homie kinda looks like Pedro from napoleon dynamite.
Thanks 🤜🏾🤛🏾
So why clay it and polish it if you’re them have to remove it to do ceramic coating?
After washing and drying you clay it first to remove contaminants, polish to deepen the color then ceramic coat to protect the paint. In a nutshell, do-it-yourselfers can expect the coating to last a yr at most. The professional grade stuff should not be used by inexperienced people. If you don’t apply properly you could destroy your paint job when the ceramic coating starts to peal off your paint. Basically, using the do-it-yourself ceramic coating is a tad better than waxing and shines better than wax.
How about buying some shorts that fit?
What about isopropyl alcohol as your "naked paint"? Is that okay??
Can I apply ceramic coating on side mirrors and sunroof and navigation system?
What is the product you are using?
What about 95% rubbing alcohol
I use 70% but as long as you dilute it, it works great. I use it all the time prior to paiting panels as well.
Prep sol could work
Can this be a basic IPA ???
Use IPA and a microfiber towel. That's it.
If you’re not diluting it with distilled water and spraying IPA directly on the panel, you’re damaging the clear coat and overtime it will eat away at the paint’s clarity. You’ll want to dilute it about 8:1 to properly use IPA on panels.
I agree but hopefully you are diluting the IPA. I go 90% IPA and use 5oz of it and 27oz of distilled water in a 32oz sprayer. I go to town with it to be honest. Costs about 4 dollar to make that mix so i am not shy with it.
I have used some panel preps before but the only one id ever buy is the GTechniq one. A lot of them are very, very weak but the GTechniq one is good.
But if Ive washed/clayed/compound/polish then waxed my vehicle shouldn't I be able to apply the ceramic coating on top without having to "strip" all my had work away
Nooooooo sir, you don't want to do that. A waxed panel is the last thing you want to put a coating onto. The wax is designed to degrade over a matter of months, so putting a long term ceramic coating on top of it would be just like pouring the concrete slab for the foundation of your house directly over nice green grass. I hope that makes some sense. Essentially you must remove the wax or ANY other temporary coating BEFORE applying the ceramic. The ceramic must chemically bond directly to the paint in order for it to last.
Any tips on waterspot removal on ceramic coating?
I think that's what Carpro descale is for
Can I just use rubbing alcohol?
Yes
When there's no more water beading you know you removed all previous coatings or wax?
No, hydrophobics are not a reliable indicator of protection or lack of it. The best way is to wash the vehicle then feel the panels for contamination clay if they are not smooth, after you can polish if needed or desired. Spraying a prep spray on the paint and glass is a good way to tell if you still have protection, hard water spots or any inconsistencies on the surface. Just spray on and look for outlines, shadows or inconsistencies on the wet portions. If you find any remove them with a polish, mineral remover or solvent.
Bro u shoot that shit thanks
I know you are a professional and probably know more than me but I have applied ceramic coatings on my 3 cars and I only removed the polish on one of them, I used the carpro essence on the other and on the last one I used used a regular polish and didn’t wipe the oils and so far the ceramic coating it’s performing the same way on every single one. I didn’t because I saw in a video of Adam’s polishes that you don’t really have to use an IPA because the coating contains solvents that remove to oils from the paint. I don’t know maybe I’ll see a difference in a couple of years but so far they all look the same.
I won’t risk it on my customers cars tho😂 every time I apply one for a customer I use the IPA
I've found if you use a ceramic prep polish you don't have to do a wipe down. Like essence or enigma allin1.
So why polish it if you are removing the polish
To polish is to remove imperfections. Most polishing compounds have wax as a carrier.
Can you stack ceramic coating on top of wax?
Nope.
ipa ?
Isopropyl Alcohol.
so do you have to polish a vehicle before you ceramic coat it
It is recommended for me, best results. Final output is so much better.
If you are happy with your paint then no. I always do because I just want to lock in the gloss before coating even if the paint is in good shape. Literally spend $60 on a DA polisher and $10 on some polish and you are ready. Dont make it too complicated.
if i move to texas can yall hire me 😊
Be careful spraying IPA on pkastics. Some pladtixs lije acrylic will splinter as soon as IPA touches it.
Why wax and buff just to remove it with ceramic cooating?
Can i just Wash it
So you wax it, then remove the wax to apply the ceramic coat? Or am I missing something
No wax, polish.....ceramic coating is the last step
Study first..he said polish .not wax..wax is stage 3..he mean compound stage 1 and polish step 2..lol
Couldn't you just wash it with Dawn dishwashing liquid? Dry the car off and then ceramic coat it ?
I believe Dawn has abrasive in it and will scratch your paint
IPA? Done 🍺
Believe me people who live in the desert don't do this shi* alot since it's gets dirty within hrs
Who knows if what he says is true, I mean if you wipe it with an IPA or wax and grease remover. If you think about it that also leaves behide a residue that would also mix with a coating. Im not saying what he says is wrong im just saying how can anyone really know if this helps or makes no difference at all. Because when you use a solution to remove another solution it leaves behind its own solution.. thus when can the paint ever truly be naked?..
💯🔥
So the other 2 process were useless
So its been polished it and then you chemicall remove the polish. So the coating will act like a polish again?
I poured voodoo ranger all over my car .. i think I gotta double back
That’s a nice color
Virgin paint 💯
Can i use a quick detailer instead?
also dont put the coating on the plastic trim
But do you really have too? I coated my car without doing an ipa wipe down and it’s been 3 1/2 years since and the coating is still beading like crazy of course I do a decon wash every 6 months and I’ve coated my other cars without this step and still the coating is doing its job! So in MY OPINION it’s not a fact it’s just my opinion we can skip this step
Thankyou for this info, i just had a heart attack cause i just finished and didnt use IPA
Brw what brand did u use?
@@kejorafall all good you should be fine! I used carpro cquartz
That's a lot of work prepping clear coat.
This is not a mandatory step on the contrary it can damage the paint
Clean slate from chemical guys
Or just use “Dawn” dish soap. Its also a grease remover for dishes.
👀👀👀👀👀💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Paint cleanser, and final wipe down with alcohol that car is ready for that coating 💦
why wax if your going to remove the wax?
After watching a lot of detailing videos, I’ve come to lose hope and will not be doing anything other than a deep wash and cleaner wax combo… I have an old DA and that’s what I’ll be using to apply it. No way will I spend 20 plus hours on this. It’s too much
Squeaky clean.
so you wax and then use a wax remover? 😂
Yes but to do all that the customer really need to pay Some Mfs dont want to pay for shit
This guy speaks like he is doing restauration of Mona Lisa. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
it's pretty simple info lol. I can't imagine what you think complicated is
Step 1: apply wax. Step 2: remove wax.
Polish is not wax.
Or you can just wrap it
So why would you waste time polishing
To fix the paint. You have to clean the residues from the polish off before applying a coating. The same as when you paint something it has to be totally clean first.Pretty straightforward concept.
Keep inhaling all those fumes and chemicals, do it for 20 years and you’re not going to live long enough to get “early” social security
What a load of crap
This guy is annoying and full of bull
Anyone knoe the correct ration to make ipa? What % alcohol do you buy? The 70% or 90% and then add half distilled water?
We prep spray 3x
