All you need to do, in evaluating this video, as well as others, is look at the count of views and likes. Tony and Chelsea are among the very best teachers on the internet, regardless of subject.
I never comment on videos. I know You might not even read this comment. But I felt the urge of telling you; This is a great video. A lot of effort has been made and this is obvious. I have an R6 and It covered everything. I recommend adding this to the search words to expand the reach
Hey Tony, I just bought the R5 and was wading my way through the 900+ pages of manual. Most of the detail was over my head but your tutorial not only offers great tips but explains the benefits and purpose. As a result, you will have accelerated my use of the R5, which I am quite excited about, Thank you... I have Subscribed btw.
A non-Canon shooter, perhaps (or just a jerk)? Disliking free (and well done) content is beyond my comprehension (other than what I said here earlier ...)!
Thank you for all the time and massive effort you and Chelsea put in, hugely appreciated. Have most of your books, anyone in any doubt, just get them, no BS like many tutors
This is the only video you need to watch on this topic. Totally on point, it has everything you need to know if you own one of these cameras, explained very clearly. Thank you !
WOW thank you! You are so thorough and detail-oriented! I LOVE your pace. No fluff and you move through like boom boom boom. Exactly what I want as a time-crunched mom of 5! I found you on a random google search on how to operate my new R5. I have since purchased two of your books. Super grateful for your work on educating fellow photographers!!!!!!!
Hi Tony. Per your comment on charging older batteries... I picked up a BG-R10 and I plugged my MacbookPro (USB-C) power supply into my R5, with my old 5DMK4 batteries installed in the BG... And they're charging! Maybe the older batteries don't USB charge in the actual (R5) camera, but they do if they're installed in the R5 battery grip which is great news!
AMAZING!!! Thank you so much! When I started my business back in the day, I set up my 5D Mark IVs with your BBF suggestions. I just switched over to mirrorless, and before taking ONE photo went straight to your video for setup suggestions, and did almost all of what you suggested! EXCELLENT information with a great pace (not too fast, not too slow) and wonderful real-life scenario situations in which certain settings may be used. Thank you for marking key points in your video, too!! This was a great help when I needed to go back to review something. LOVE your content!!
Well done as always. If you're going to shell out 3-5,000 for a camera body, I don't know why you'd even visit the camera store until you watch these detailed product reviews. So many times, people have expressed regret in buying their camera because they didn't do their homework and establish what their needs really were. Video's like Tony's will provide you with most of the info you'll need. And he's great at pointing out what some of the weaknesses are so you won't make any misinformed decisions. A good return on investment!!!
I know this is an old video but I'm only just getting around to going mirrorless and getting a new R5 mk1. I've been using a 5Dsr for a few years now and I have to say I found the 3rd party batteries I have easily outlast the genuine canon ones, thanks for the video, I'm sure some of what you've said here will come in useful once the new R5 arrives in a couple of days.
Fantastic effort Tony, I couldn't talk for 5 mins without losing my voice. Just about to get my R5, so bookmarked this clip to help optimise it. Thanks for the valuable info !!! 🤠😎
OK, so I just gotta say this is one terrific video! I realize there are lots more details (wireless, network connections, etc) but one man's voice only lasts so long! I just got my R5 yesterday, and discovered you had done this video and immediately logged in to watch. I bought two of your books too, since this video is worth that price alone so it's like getting the books for free! Also, I gotta say, you two know more about the Canon world than anyone else I know, and when you consider you know as much about the Nikon, Sony, Fuji, Olympus worlds too, it blows me away!
Thank you so very much. This is a fantastic tutorial. Love the practical advice on what works and what doesn't work as well. Appreciate all the work and professionalism put into all of the work that you and Chelsea create. Thanks again, Martin
Definitely the best RUclips Channels for all the entusiastic and profesional photographers. We really valued the time and effort you guys put on this videos. Thank you!!!!!!!
Except for my 5D3, I don’t shoot Canon anymore (Fuji). So I don’t need to watch this video, but I’m giving it a thumbs up because I appreciate the effort that you put into these videos. Y’all have been running one of the most professional RUclips channels for a very long time. I tell people that RUclips is the new PBS that provides true public broadcasting in a way that was never before possible. You and Chelsea have always been a great example of professionalism on this platform.
Brilliant. Just purchased EOS R5 Appreciate the content and Tony's presentation. Going purchase from their site, if they are half as good as this presentation expect it to be wonderful. Thank you !
Thank you Northrup Team for another helpful video! Main 256GB and 128GB Backup (you saved me $$$ TY!!!) CFX-B RAW 128GB = 2723 photos / 256GB = 5447 photos UHS-II Large Jpeg 128GB = 9846 / 256GB = 19692 photos
USB C plug-in for mobile device connections on my PC front panel will charge my new R5. Once again, your videos amazing! You guys helped me from my 80D to my 6D to my 6D MKII and no for my shiny new R5!
Thanks for the comments about the batteries. A couple of things. First there are non-Canon batteries that work perfectly, I've tested several. Some work some don't. However the Powerextra brand sold on Amazon that are labeled LP-E6NH work perfectly (battery life new Canon vs new Powerextra in my experience is comparable). The USB charging and 10 frames mechanical shutter features both require the LP-E6NH COMPATIBLE batteries and as Tony said even Canon brand non- E6NH batteries have limitations. I also have tested many chargers and less than half work for USB charging. The chargers need to be "PD" compliant which usually means they accept the a USB C cable rather than a USB A cable. Finally, I've not experienced any issues with battery life. Camera settings make a BIG difference. Two settings that really shorten the battery life are WiFi on and Bluetooth on. These will shorten the battery life EVEN when the Camera is off. WiFi on can deplete the battery in as little as 8 hours EVEN with the camera off. Bluetooth drain is much less but noticeable. I shoot professionally and have no problem shooting over 1,000 images with the battery grip. BTW I used to run Quality Assurance for a software company so testing software/equipment is just in my blood. I hope this helps your followers... Good job with the tutorials.
He can’t promote off brand batteries. What if it screws up the camera. And who is to say we believe you. For all we know, you work for battery manufacturer
There's not nearly enough thumbs up for these tutorials. Outstanding work ! Thank a bunch, Chelsea & Tony. (and yes, of course I picked also up 2 of your books. you guys should really get Patreon, or "Get me a cup of coffee" or so, so that ppl who simple actual want to pay for your content can do so... )
Fantastic video. Extremely helpful. I LOVE Paul Buff Digibee for Flash. Much cheaper, excellent and really durable. I just bought 2 Buff White Lightenings that are 10 years and super cheap. They work great.
Thank you. You made life sooooooo much better. I just upgraded from the mark IV to the R5 and was somewhat overwhelmed. You simplified the process by demonstrating very clearly the precise settings and applications of the camera's features. Thanks again. You saved me a huge amount of time.
Thanks again Tony! I just got an R5 on 8/5 and this video made the learning curve a lot shorter! Bought some more stuff to help support the channel as well!
Taking stills is not my strong suit and when I need them, I'm always scrambling to remember what to do. Very well put together video. I learned a few things about setting the camera up for stills. I know first hand how much work a video like this is, from one filmmaker to another, thanks for your effort. It is well received and appreciated.
the EL-1 is an amazing flash. I was skeptical at first, and I have owned just about every flash combination (canon and non-canon) and it is by far my favorite flash.
wow, with a hundred adds you must have been paid well for your hard work putting together this video. I cant decide between the R6II or the R5. Damn...if only the R6 had 45MP.
Thanks a million for sharing this valuable information. I am planning to buy an R5 camera and I was unsure as I am just a beginner. I subscribed, as learner I am sure I will defintely benefit from these tutorials. Much appreciated for being so generous with your time and knowledge. 🍁
Note too, that you can update your R5 (or many Canon cameras) using the EOS utility. Just make sure it's updated on your Mac or Windoze box. Forgot to say "thanks" as this was an EXCELLENT video and quite helpful to my R5 efforts (don't tell RUclips, but I downloaded it :0) )!
Tony, thanks to you and Chelsea for all the amazing content on RUclips. I was a long-time Nikon shooter and I converted to Canon R5 based on a lot of your content and comparison of mirrorless models. thanks so much. I bought a book on as a thank you since I know this is how you pay the bills. Thanks again
Tony, you're amazing! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Don't know what I would have done without it! I just purchased this camera and I am so thrilled. This video was life saver for me. Thanks again!
Please would you provide some additional detail on how to use the Q button. With my 5D mk4 the Q button allowed you to scroll between the different settings, select one of the settings, then scroll between the different options and select the one you want. However, it does not seem to work like this on the R5. I can scroll between the different settings but I was unable to select one or see the different options that are available. In the end I resorted to using the menus which is like going back to a point and shoot camera from 20 years ago.
Tony, I consider you as the best tutorial teacher on the net. I finally moved to mirrorless and this R5 tutorial is fantastic ! !! I have a question for you. Which shutter will allow less dust on the sensor ? Electronic, Mechanical ? Thanks for your help. By the way, I read your book (digital photography) every winter to be ready for my next shooting season. Keep on the great work !
Well done Tony. Excellent lecture / presentation. I own a Nikon Z 6 camera. After this video, I find it safe to shift to a more professional camera. Nice suit 👍
Thank you. You have saved me a lot of time.

I just received my R5 2 days ago. This has saved me so much time. Thanks!
Tony, you are a serious professional. I tip my hat to you. You saved me hours of reading that giant manual. Thanks so much.
Thanks!
What could bring a person to dislike this video? This is amazing, Tony. Thanks! I have an R6 and this covered all I needed.
Stupidity probably.
A non-Canon shooter, perhaps (or just a jerk)? Disliking free (and well done) content is beyond my comprehension (other than what I said here earlier ...)!
I learned alot within the first 5 minutes. And I don’t even own this camera or Canon mirrorless
Thank you !
Thank you I also have an R5
I finally upgraded from my 5D MKIV and I should have known to come here before watching any other videos. Well done as always huge props!
I have purchase the R5 yesterday, although I had use a Canon 70D for almost 10 years, your video is very useful for me!!! Thanks a lot!!! Cheers!!
WOW thank you! You are so thorough and detail-oriented! I LOVE your pace. No fluff and you move through like boom boom boom. Exactly what I want as a time-crunched mom of 5! HECK YES! Just got my R5 last Sunday! Great timing! I also have two spare genuine OEM batteries coming that will be delivered tomorrow! 🙌🏻

Just upgraded my Canon EOS R to the R5 yesterday. This is very informative and helpful. Thank You.
Super helpful thanks so much 💚
Best R5 Tutorial out there hands down .... Thanks Tony.

Thank you so very much. This is a fantastic tutorial. Love the practical advice on what works and what doesn't work as well. Appreciate all the work and professionalism put into all of the work that you and Chelsea create. Thanks again, Martin
Excellent review. I love how Tony provides so much additional (and practical) advice beyond the camera itself.
Tony & Chelsea, this is extremely helpful info to fast-track setting up the R5. Thanks for your time and effort putting this together!
Glad it was helpful!
I was going to wait for CreativeLive to put out a video like this for the R5 and they haven't. So happy you did! Thank you xoxo

Definitely the best RUclips Channels for all the entusiastic and profesional photographers. We really valued the time and effort you guys put on this videos. Thank you!!!!!!!
Great presentation. I was feeling overwhelmed by my new R5. He made it simple.
Thank you so so much for this Tony! Just got my R5 a few hours ago and this was the first video I watched to get set-up:)
Finally, this video is relevant to me! The functions seem intuitive from the SLR setup, but there have been a few changes.

Thanks Tony. Really like the way you setup the AF buttons. Works well.
I just got my r5 camera today, and I found this very helpful. You now have a new subscriber. Thank you, Tony and Chelsea!
Love this video. I've come back to it many times to set up different aspects of my R5, thanks Tony.

Thanks Tony for the wonderful tutorial! Quick question why is custom shooting (C1, C2 & C3) not available for HDR Mode?
Yhank you. I've had the R5 since the New Year ... and been hoping you'd do a tutorial.
Very good tutorial. Straight to the point without unnecessary bla, bla. Thanks 🙏!

Congrats!
Great tutorial..... I still have so much to learn, but enjoy working through it. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your time to explain all the things around the Canon EOS R5 which helps me in some ways a lot !
New R5 user here. Thanks, Tony ✌🏼
Thank you! I've been on the lookout for this video from you guys since I got my R5.
PC sync works well with Paul C Buff Ringlight. A very powerful addition for Macro. Love what y’all do. Keep those videos coming.
Thanks again Tony! I just got an R5 on 8/5 and this video made the learning curve a lot shorter! Bought some more stuff to help support the channel as well!

Thanks for the tips and info on Canon EOS R5. Thinking about upgrading my Canon camera. 😎🇺🇸
Thanks! Just got my r5 this weekend!
Tell Chelsea I did get the Canon R5! The gal from Wyoming. Thank u 4 this Tutorial!! I'm having so much fun.
Thank You, this is just what I needed, information and the depth of experience you both provide. A user manual is no match for real life experience.
Absolutely outstanding video. You answered so many questions that the supplied manual did not cover at all or very well. Thank you so much!
Great tutorial. So easy to understand.
Great video! I still use pc ports for some old Buffs
Thank you for this really great content. Everyone who has an R5 will appreciate you, including me :) Thanks!
Thank you so much Tony! I have learnt so much from watching your video. Much appreciated
This video is totally awesome! Super work, Tony!
I liked this tutorial. It touched on some very key aspects of the R5.
Very professionally done. Thanks for all your instruction videos .

Tony the best teacher ever
Tony, thanks to you and Chelsea for all the amazing content on RUclips. I was a long-time Nikon shooter and I converted to Canon R5 based on a lot of your content and comparison of mirrorless models. thanks so much.
I bought a book on as a thank you since I know this is how you pay the bills. Thanks again

I always learn so much from your videos, thank you, and I have bought a book from you
i have watched this multiple times.. wish I could do a thumbs up multiple times.. lol :) thanks for doing this long video - it is greatly appreciated
Excellent Tony. My thanks.
Thank you for this Tony! Amazing video!
Thank you! I watched the entire video. Very enlightening! One question for you, if you don't mind. Why do you prefer FV for shooting stills?
This video is the only one I needed. Thank you so much. You are the best.😇
thank you for this very helpful tutorial
Amazing thorough tutorial. Love all your videos
fantastic, thank you again, Tony.
Thank you for your hard work on these videos.

With my 5D mk4 the Q button allowed you to scroll between the different settings, select one of the settings, then scroll between the different options and select the one you want. In the end I resorted to using the menus which is like going back to a point and shoot camera from 20 years ago.
Thanks for such a great tutorial! I appreciate the in depth analysis of each feature and its usefulness.
Tony , Good reference and a great job.
Clear and precise video

Nice suit 👍
Really really helpful! This is my first professional camera and you guys always do these so well.
Thanks Tony, really helpful, subscribed.
