I’m doing an art project on rosemaling in school and this was so cool to watch, it is such a beautiful style, my great-great grandparents were Norwegian immigrants, and I feel so glad I stumbled across this art style!

This was my very first introduction to rosemaling. What a beautiful art form this is. I instantly fell in love with this. What a beautiful collection. Thank you for sharing it.

Great video explanation. I knew little about the specifics on the regional styles but had observed differences over the years so I figured there would be more to the story. I recently found a blue rosemaling bowl that, from your explanation here, would lead me to believe that it's done in the American Rogaland style or some variant. It's signed 'Reidar 1979'. I tried to find more pieces by that maker but the only name I could come up with was 'Reidar Rosenvinge' who I found came to America in the 1920s and had through the process of time become a skilled painter, working on various odd job/painting contracts and eventually teaching rosemaling in his retirement years. There's a two-part interview with Reidar from May 21, 1977 recorded in Chicago available online through the Library of Congress archives...should anyone be interested in his story.
