I owned a 1991 Swift GTI. Those are so much fun to drive. 101hp on 800kg weight. high revving 1.3L G13B engine is a dream. The best discription i heared about it is "it drives like you have an angry US-Army drillsargent on your passenger seat and he screams constantly at you how good your driving is and how nice that corner was."

I had a friend in Singapore who owned a manual ZC31S Suzuki Swift Sport, all he did was a piggyback system to the ECU and it does pops and bangs, bone stock no turbos and all that. Ever since that first drive, I immediately fell in love with the Suzuki Swift Sport and wanted one of my own, it’s was a super fun hatchback to drive around and ripping the streets

Never knew they only built 5-door Swifts in Japan. Here in Europe we also got the 3-door. The ones for Europe were actually built in Hungary. Looking forward to this series, the Swift is pretty old school (N/A 1.6), but new enough to not be a pain to maintain. Curious what nugget Marty will come up with!

Dont know if you chaps will see this comment in the sea of others. But to track the swift: similar formula as always (tyres wheels suspension, arb- upgraded front and added rear) uprated pads, bracing, a perfomance stage 1 clutch helps, poly bushes, add ligtness. doubble down on handling basically.
If you desire more power, the stock internals can take around 160hp n/a (from memory) for the purity, (cams, intake, exhaust manifold and sytem with cat), rpm wise the valve springs give up at 7k ish rpm. But the engine can rev to 7.5k safely with valve spings. Rods and pistons are available if desired, though more power is a bit much after that due to the short gearing.
Turbo kits are available (manifold mainly) but the rest will have to be be custom, a geared or plated limited slip will also wake the handling up if you decide for more power.
CTC perfomance in the UK are a good shout for parts for the swift, as are Greenline Motorsports or RHD japan for Japanese parts.
Hope this info helps Moog and his swift journey, I own the predesessor the Suzuki Ignis Sport. Cant wait to see how this project goes!

This would do really well with a set of headers(which also remove the cat), a Simota cold air intake, and a retune. Probably the best handling car I've had and when you rev the nuts out of the engine it feels like you're absolutely flying. Goes from 0-100kph in about 8.5 seconds and I've seen some modded NA ones make 6.5 seconds. These things are a menace on the road and you wouldn't know it!

I'm one of the ~300 Aussies that purchased the model before this (HT81S) from the showroom floor (I still have one). One thing to note: The head gaskets fail around this age, and Monster Sport (formerly SuzukiSport) make thinner, stronger ones. The OEM gaskets fail subtly. If you don't catch the early signs, the block will end up like that M15A you got from the wreckers.
Also, cheap owners tend to replace the factory Iridium plugs (probably NGK IFR6J11) with crappy $10 plugs. Watch out for that.

Said on the last video, that thing has close to the power to weight ratio an NA miata did. Light nuggs are always a fun time! The most fun I've ever had in a car, was in a freaking Yugo back in high school. Friend was given the car, so he gutted it and started playing with upgrades. Put a bigger carb on it, then ended up shaving the head on a belt sander, built an intake, made a header.. We'd go out ripping around the neighborhood on the little walking trails that go through the woods rally style with some handbrake action. Man that was fun!
That car ran a 22 second quarter mile when he got it. Low 16s when he was done. Quick? No. Quicker?? Probably was thr worlds quickest Yugo lol.

Only changes were some better dampers and Bridgestones all round - best tyres i could find in the tyre size. Not fast, but VERY nippy and economical with really good steering feedback.
Bought a '09 Suziki Swift Sport* - black version of Moogs - and other than a bit more power/weight, a bit more headroom, and a better sound system when i replaced the OEM speakers - IMO the original was a better drive with much better steering feel, engine response, brake feel, gearchange, etc.

I've been saying for a year now that the swift should be the new intro race group to replace the excel cup

Suzuki swifts get alot of hate from stock p plate toyota 86 drivers with a wing tacked on and other drivers in stereotypical sporty cars so it's really nice to see some appreciation towards them. I reckon with some good shocks and tyres it would be able to out corner a stock 86 or brz any day of the week

Also Moog: "In this episode of MCM were going to turbo the Swift!"

We have a Swift 1.3 DDis engine in India. Absolutely beautiful engine with a lot of torque. Please try and find one and give your opinion on that engine.

I've never actually had the impression those were 'underrated,' I think everyone realizes they're fun little things that maybe only go so far, but the 'practical daily for driving enthusiasts ' is surely an under-done genre.

I have one and I don't think they're underrated, they're really fun and good to daily but not really a sports car... At least stock. They make great track cars once modified!

@@Zanpaa I was more thinking everyone knows that. Maybe there's only so much content in em on RUclips but in some circumstances I think I'd be fairly happy with on.
