I’m so glad Phil talked about anxiety with going to a hospital. As someone who’s grown up in a toxic household that consisted of parents who didn’t want me (a disabled person) to go to the hospital when I needed to, I ended up developing anxiety when it comes to going to the hospital, to the point where I went several months not going when I knew I had injured one of my ankles and that caused me to develop tendinitis due to my fear of what my parents would do if I asked to go to the hospital. If I had just gone regardless of what they thought I would have a minimum of two less disorders than I do now. I now have to live the rest of my life with tendinitis, an eye lid disorder, and a few other disorders/disabilities which most could have been prevented if I had gotten help when I needed it. So, no matter what, if you are in doubt about anything in your body functioning correctly, or if you think you might be sick or having something broken, go to the doctor just in case. The only things that can happen is you go and they find nothing so you know you’re okay, or they find something and start fixing from the start when it can most likely be cured, vs waiting and possibly developing an incurable disorder/disability that you’ll live with for the rest of your life (and was preventable).
Fun story about "butt doctor": at my cousin's wedding reception, her husband's father told everyone a story about how when the husband was a kid, he would tell everyone he wanted to be a butt doctor. When asked what he would do as a butt doctor, he said "saw people's butts off." So. Glad that's not what happened to you, Phil.
This popped up on my notifications and I immediately went “Phil!?” in a really exasperated tone and I think that sums up the last eleven years of watching
Guys, gals, nonbinary pals, I present to you: The ONLY RUclipsr that I ever wanna hear about going to the hospital for any reason. _Especially_ for this reason.
Just want to double down on the whole "don't be scared to see a doctor" part. Recently I've had a bunch of medical scans and an operation, I was a bit freaked out at the idea but honestly they were all no issue, not bad at all. In a recent ultrasound the technician said, whilst probing me, "I can't get a great view of the left side due to a large gas bubble in the bowels." and I couldn't stop laughing at my own farts betrayal
@@chitkat9793 Ohmygoodness I was going for an ultrasound and they told me not to pee within an hour and a half of it and I MADE THE MISTAKE OF PEEING so the whole trip to the place I was chugging water and thankfully it made it through my system fast enough for my bladder to be nearly full and for them to get a good result
My husband had that last year because doctors thought he had cancer. Hardest time I went through and I cried for several days. He had 4/5 symptoms and I was convinced he was gonna die. Thankfully it wasn’t cancer, he had some polyps which they cut out. And he’s still with me

I remember being really embarrassed when I had to take off my bra for a chest x-ray. I was already embarrassed from just being in that gown with just my undergarments on, but I dunno the bra thing just kind of shot that through the roof. The nurse who had wheeled me there and back on the stretcher could tell though, and she just assured me that lots of people had to do the same thing and comforted me about it. It was during when the quarantine was just starting, so it was the first time I didn't have my mom with me (which had made me super nervous about everything as well) and I think that nurse could tell that I was just super uncomfortable with everything and she did her best to assure me for the majority of my visit. I remember that nurse well because she was super sweet and reassuring during the whole ordeal. I appreciated it a lot tbh. Kind of unrelated I guess, but phil talking about this reminded me lol

For real, it can really help to tell your doctor if you're anxious or embarrassed. The first time I had to go for an annual exam to get my, ah, bits checked out, I told my doctor, "hey, this is new for me and I'm a little nervous." She walked me through the whole process before starting, and then explained everything she was doing while she was doing it. It really took a lot of the stress out of it!

The first time I went to the hospital and they asked me if I was allergic to anything, I made the mistake of saying "Yes, bunny rabbits" and they actually wrote it down. Now every time I go to the hospital they give me a red wrist band and every new surgeon or anaesthetist who comes to see me asks about it like it's very serious and I have to admit it's rabbits over and over again and endure the laughter.

For real, it can really help to tell your doctor if you're anxious or embarrassed. The first time I had to go for an annual exam to get my, ah, bits checked out, I told my doctor, "hey, this is new for me and I'm a little nervous." Medicine, you need to study medicine mate.
It is so important to be confident with your doctor. I had this weird bump on my breast for over a year until I got it checked. Didn't want to go, because I kept telling myself it's nothign bad, it doesn't hurt and I didn't want to show my bare chest to an adult (I was 15 at the time). But when I realized that this "bump" isn't going away I went to see the doctor and it turned out that I had a third nipple, that apparently started growing while I was in puberty.
Nipple³ is still there, I call him Alfted and he's cool. But you guys have no idea, how relieved I was, that it actually wasn't anything bad.
So thanks Phil, for raising awareness, that our bodys all are weird and strange, but our doctors really don't care. Or to put it in the words of my doctor "If you actually have something we've never seen before you'll get famous and we'll write about you in medical journals"
Oh wow
