In this video, I share a spectacular game between GM Dvirnyy Danyyil (Italy) and GM Alexei Shirov (Spain) from the 2020 FIDE Online Chess Olympiad. The game featured a Slav Defense (what I preferred calling a reverse London Opening) and quickly became sharp in the middle game. Shirov displayed some attacking brilliance that he is famous for and found some incredible moves, including a dazzling queen sacrifice. I hope chess fans will be entertained and inspired by this game! As part of the Gazprom Brilliancy Prize (trophy shown in the thumbnail) I was a selected as a judge out of several other chess streamers and RUclipsrs to choose their favorite games from the event. Yeah the Shirov game is gonna win the brilliancy prize, literally every single commentator so far has picked it as their top choice
5:55 "black not only wins connect four but also opens the B file" I CAN''T
Between you and agadmator you guys are really pushing chess into the public eye and giving it a new identity. Keep it up my friend as it is very appreciated by all of the chess nerds out there.
I really love this game, I will show this to my friends in the bars and libraries when it's back open
I'm actually amazed at how much chess has taken off. My e-sports association is organising chess tournaments at the same level as csgo or league. That honestly blows my mind.
@@mariovanderwal1695 Who are you a part of? Would love to check you guys out then!
If you think so then you haven't checked samay raina stream yet i guess🇮🇳❤️
@@shashanksingh2702 I've been a sub for agadmator for a few years now but eric started popping up on my youtube suggestions recently and he seems to be doing quite well so I subbed. I will have to check out samay raina, cant have enough chess so the more the merrier.
I don’t understand how Eric uploads more content than hours in the day. Am I meant to be watching these on 2x speed? Because I’ll do whatever it takes
Watch everything on 2x. Most videos are too slow
@@DRDR3ADSA 1.25 speed is the best imho
He speaks very fast, and then he slows it down in post-production
I watch on 2.5x 🤷🏻♂️
I watch on 0.5 two times in a row.
5:57 wins connect 4 - ah yes the goal of the game
style points
Just wanted to say that this was edited perfectly, left all the important parts in, trimmed out streaming parts, excellent commentary, thank you as always😌
Wow, what a move. Could you imagine being able to find it even without any form of time constraints?? Amazing
No way I'd find it. If somehow I stumbled into it I wouldn't be able to calculate that knight AND took extra sacrifices, and I'd think Id just be losing and discard it. Hell even Rosen while seeing it couldn't calculate it, took stock fish 4 seconds for a damn forced mate. Insane stuff!!!
I could definitely find the first few moves (only to blunder checkmate in two at the end of the line and lose miserably)
I found it only because I knew to be on the lookout for a queen sacrifice. I might have seen it in a real game but would have never had the balls to play it in a game that mattered, and no way would I have been able to find the knight moves to seal the deal.
Imagine forgetting about a pin and then realizing you are the most brilliant chess player in the world
Legal's mate. Same energy
‘Regretfulsomethingsomething’ nice save Eric 6:53
He never falls for it
Both players seeing that mate in 12 is crazy..
I wonder if they both did, or if black did, and white respected it without finding it.
@@Asdayasman possible, maybe he only sees it's bad for him, but not taking a free queen, he had to know it was really bad
@@ethananderson6444 It'd make sense to me - if someone that highly rated in a serious setting offers a material advantage of a full queen, I'd be sus af
Exactly my thought..
Shirov probably spent long time on the move and his opponent was probably like "eh I'll just trust your calculation" and played anything but taking the queen.
6:00 black wins connect four :D
Love your vids man. Specially at night it takes away my stress and i fall asleep on them long videos haha .
Thanks for uploading! What a beautiful game! I wasn't able to finish watching the stream
This was sooo goooodddd. We want videos like this as well Eric !
Beautiful game! Eric and I both shouted "what" on 28... Nc5, what a move
Great video. Really appreciated the sponteaneity of the analysis!
Thank you for the analysis!! I love it :)
Great analysis Eric. I hope you keep uploading content like this.
i have to say man i love your content, ya got me back into chess regardless of how bad i am, your videos help a lot, hope this finds ya well, glhf.
Eric is just so good at avoiding saying questionable nicknames. Look at how easily he sidesteps it at 6:50 .
2:08 - "Likes to have extra 'y's in the name."
So you're saying he's a very 'y's guy?
Great game! Thanks for showing it
Hey loving your content at the moment Eric you’re part of the reason I’m getting more into chess
So beautiful! That is really really impressive to have calculated that line...
I especially loved the photos from Latvia and your telling of your experience there with Shirov and Sveshnikov. My daughter went to school in Riga for a year and enjoyed a unique cultural experience. I hope you got to enjoy the country while you were there.
what time control was this game? I think this is crucial information to judge the move, but even for a 5h game, this move is incredible
The best queen sac I've seen in recent memory. The winning idea was so subtle, brilliant calculation by both players.
This is a beautiful mate, to think that nc5 was already calculated by black when playing ne4 sacking the Queen is just mind blowing. Thanks Eric for sharing!
That was such a good analysis.
Very nice game indeed, thanks for the analysis!
this blows my mind. thank you for the explanation
im like 1000 rated and this is mindboggingly beautiful to watch haha
for real, it will probably take us another 1500 rating to truly understand this position haha
What an awesome game!
Edit: and analysis ofcourse 😉
One of the best games I've seen this year!
Got a laugh within the first 30 seconds. It’s a thumbs up from me 😂.
Excelente partida!.gracias.
Acc. To Vishy it was a big smile😂
What a stunning game. Almost certainly going to be an example for future students of chess to study!
This was an awesome match man
Agadmator tells a great story, but watching you puzzle out the lines and work with the engine is super educational!
The best analysis!
Love eric!
If you just started how has it been a year
@@Eskiii he said just started for a year
U were hearted ripppp
@@aquacuber505 he edited the comment
Now I wanna study checkmate patterns for the rest of the day.
That was a bloody brilliant game.
beautiful mate
Damn Eric, you’re a monster at linguistics, soft expressions, and word selections. Kudos
what
Hi Eric, can we have more game analysis like this please? Really enjoyed the video
Hi Eric, Thanks for all the great content. could you please show some variations of what to do after you win the dark bishop when playing with black against the London with the dirty H5 trap? i have won that bishop twice but due to the mess it makes of the king side i actually ended up losing both those games LOL
Absolutely incredible
Nice to see Shirov's still got it. What a legend!
Happy Birthday Eric and Happy Teacher’s day thank for everything!🥳🙌🏻🔥🔥
19:51 pretty sure the official language of Latvia is Latvian.
Lmao
This is so stunning
Masterpiece Analysis ✌️✌️✌️
What a magnificent mate!
Absolutely incredible.
trying to kill me with that mona lisa pic! halfway through a grinder (eating) lol
masterpiece. absolutely beautiful.
His voice is so soothing and soft
You are amazing Eric
What a sac!
What a game!!
My god high level chess is over worldly.... Seeing so so far ahead.. Brilliant
In the queen sacrifice position you could bring the bishop back to beside the king and it would stop mate?
What a beautiful game. No more to say here ... Shirov is a genius
WOW that was awesome
Can we see some more amazing games analysed? High-level analysis is such amazing content, cause it unlocks beautiful games like this for people (by which I mean literally everyone) who wouldn't have understood otherwise.
Great analysis and extremely interesting and this is why I don’t try to play against my computer
So Eric showed up in a small tournament in Latvia and he basically faced every name of every possible Sicilian variation. That's so impressive. And he beat a couple of them too.
That is amazing. Tal-style.
Wow - Sveshnikov :) - glad he didn't play Sveshnikov against you :). On the other hand a draw with Igors Rausis was left without a comment. Drawing is a usual thing when you are training many games against computer :)
Good to see the Botez Gambit used in professional chess games
Shout out to Eric, the great guy that revealed the line that agadmator did not even think about
The clicks are so satisfying
oh no, my queen!
@16:16 can white play bishop takes knight e4 and almost equalize?
He's just a chill guy
VERY cool game
So Shirov has now played two of the most impressive moves in the history of chess. A worthy descendant of Bh3.
What would happen if bishop did not take the pawn at a2 after the q sac
Hi Eric. Just subscribed. Thank you for your free content!
what tea do you drink? WE NEED A TEA REVIEW VIDEO ERIC
What a game
Omg when I saw Rcc4 and found Qd1, I immediately found Nc5 and was stunned at the idea
Brilliant
This is just sheer tactical monstrosity, only way to describe it..🤯
It's nothing against my game with AlphaZero. It was able to draw it unfortunately
Can't wait to see this on Agadmator's channel later this week. :D
Huh, he already posted it.
Crazy
Ne2 Qg4 white plays b3....(not Nc1)?
It might be a good idea to go www.twitch.tv/imrosen/ to check to see if your prime gaming is available for the resubscripton.
Thanks for giving link to a study @Eric Rosen
I couldnt stop comparing Eric's face to the Mona lisa the ENTIRE video.
Why not take the knight on e4 with black's bishop?
Queen flex! lol cool move
@ 13:51 , why are you not explaining pawn takes knight. I don't see why white should allow the 2nd knight to calmly get there to check the black king
Chess is where unbelievable real magics are happening.
at 9:13 what about rook c2?
Your birthday stream was amazing, Eric. I got to catch the whole thing, and loved that you reviewed so many amazing games with us. It was like chess porn. Thanks for giving us such a great present for your birthday!
Wanted to correct you, Latvia's main language is - Latvian. Just so you know ;) I'm from Latvia, that's why I know. A lot of people are speaking Russian, usually the older generations but not that many.
And great videos you have on the channel. Keep it up!
Hope you read the comment ;)
At 15:43 I was thinking you should attack all four squares with the Queen, Both Rooks and Bishop, then steal a Rook since they'll most likely protect their queen.
I was looking at rook c4 before the queen moved to the other side of the board.
