This is exactly why you're my favorite chess streamer. Seems it didn't even cross your mind the possibility of cheating. Rather, you immediately accepted defeat and studied your mistakes with an extremely positive attitude. Respect.
This is a beautiful Speedrun and I look forward to the road ahead.
he probably did suspect cheating, but in a different video where he lost to a proven cheater he stated he doesn’t like to accuse people of cheating publicly without any concrete evidence
True class. Contrast that with Naroditsky, who seems to have a lot of videos where he either says he is playing a cheat, or at least strongly implies it
@@bsol510shame his audience doesn’t follow his lead
@@guyjackson4165It speaks well of Eric not to immediately accuse people, but the game was definitely very suspicious. There's a difference between publicly calling someone out without conclusive evidence and suspecting foul play in a youtube comment.
@@fomme397 and what difference is that exactly?
Opponent changed his name to greenflag49. His opponent is now also banned for violating fair play policy 😂😂
Eric's most spoken words throughout the series: "Also, I have to watch my time..."
been watching him for a long time, it's always going to be like this lol
He should add increment with tougher opponents to avoid time scrambles.
Or: "It's not so simple..."
x is for choice here
creating luft for the king
pretty instructive game
I'd be pretty happy destroying opponent's pawn structure
I don't mind the trade
Quite common pattern in engine cheating is that someone plays a weird ass opening and then starts to play exceptionally well. Tbh have been surprised you haven't faced a cheater till now.
Yeah I was suspicious from move 5 because of that. Nobody at that rating plays like that. Clearly somebody trying to subtle cheat. He tried hard to hide it too. He was playing all moves that kept a slight advantage for black but kept him in the game and then in the endgame he went full 3800.
@@Grannyknockers Yes, you can often go behind a pawn or even an exchange and still win if you just play endgame with engine precision in shorter time controls. I have played against engine with unlimited time having like +3 advantage and it's not easy to convert in complicated positions. One mistake and you can already be even, next inaccuracy and you're behind.
He faced another cheater a few episodes prior. They were banned for behavior, but you know they were both trolling and cheating together
Two takeaways:
1. Opponent is very likely cheating
2. This never would have happened if you kept the beard
hhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Opponent was very likely not cheating imo, that game didn't look fishy at all to me
@@Sinzari His account is sus. His name first of all 🤣 and second of all he opened his account June 23 of this year (just over 2 weeks ago) and he's already rated above 2100 rapid and 2000 blitz. He also played almost all the top engine moves without thinking in the end game. Sus af
This is the only comment needed on this video
@@Sinzarinot fishy at all? He was consistently finding very strong moves, which doesn’t really happen at that rating level.
It’s not like Eric made some silly mistake and opponent got lucky. The guy was playing silly moves and somehow getting the advantage back
“catch me if you can”, no further questions your honour
@@Larry_Kabberga you forgot the ‘69’ 😂
Rxd3 takes 1 minute and every subsequent move takes 2 seconds and is perfect 😂. 15 day old account as well, too obvious.
+++
His name is catchmeifucan69 obviously troll cheating account
we do procedure
how to get to such a high rating in 15 days though? Is it that easy to cheat to the top with a fresh account?
@@thegreatNEb Yes, incredibly easy to cheat to the top in 15 days lol
The guy is banned, no surprise.
That confirms it, he was most certainly cheating here.
Stockfish played that endgame beautifully!
how do you know?
His name is catch me if you can as well lol
I've looked through some of his games now. I don't know if he's cheating. One thing I can say for certain though is that his openings are consistently bad. Which I find really strange for a player with >2000 ELO
No, Eric just got complacent and squandered a winning endgame.
@@danielward7008 meh, account created 15 days ago and what makes it suspicious to me is that he played like a normal 2000 up until the endgame then he played like a literal engine, only best moves found in a consistent pace of 2 seconds
14:46 look how from this point on (I didn't pay close attention to earlier, but this is the point where the engame gets really comlpex) he usually takes exactly 2 seconds to make every single move, some very deep and complex ones even. Every now and then seems like he pauses for some reason, but then he takes time in the most obvious moves and moves fast in hard ones. There is no way that this guy is clean
3:22 also got really complex. Caught eric off guard with an unexpected move that looking back seems obvious
Yeah, you didn't lose to a person. Streak still lives as far as I am concerned.
Yeah it would be a pity to consider the streak broken just because he encountered a cheater
@@vukb723 Why so many indians are cheaters ? Are they that much bad losers ? Eveytime I am in a winning position against them, they go afk and waste your time. Made me hate that community... And so many times, you get destroyed by them like they have 300-400 elo less than they should be.
Looking at that account / their recent games, I've got a feeling you'll be removing that loss at some point.

I had a suspicion 🤔
Oppo account has now been banned for fair play.

@@colinfrance8864 I'll be back
Uhh because he beat a smurfer fair and square?
Was wondering, when you'd face the first "interesting" opponent. No shame in losing to stockfish, I'd say 😂
Had the same thoughts lol
Eric fans are malding that their internet daddy lost. Keep huffing that copium
@chullupa it bothers you a lot that his opponent's account and play was extremely suspicious doesn't it? Hehe, I wouldn't lose any sleep over it, you being a low elo player you couldn't tell the difference anyway.
@@chullupaAre you not also an Eric fan? If not, why are you here?
@@chullupaupdate: his account was closed for violating fair play policies ✌️
I'm rated 2000 in rapid, and this opponent played FAR stronger than anything I could do. The way they played the end game was especially suspicious. In any case, great job taking the loss gracefully. Thanks for the amazing content!
Maybe his actual strength is close to 3000 and he is also climbing the rating ladder gradually.
@@arya8411 his account was banned
eric, i played this opponent on li chess and after analyzing the game my opponent was around 97% accurracy for a five minute game so i reported him as a cheat. i am surprise he was not banned. these players play wild openings to start a game only to use stockfish to clean up when they get into trouble.
I hope you took into consideration other things besides the accuracy. 97% accuracy by itself doesn't mean cheating on any level. I get these high numbers pretty consistently and I'm a lousy player. The reason for the high number is most often that the opponent played straight into a prep line, or they otherwise played very badly and the best moves were very easy to find. These are usually games of 25 moves or less, sometimes much less.
Just yesterday somebody played the king's gambit without knowing how to play it and I got 99,6% without a single move on my side being prep. That was a 5 min game, but in my experience, a very high accuracy is more likely to occur in a quick game. I'm much higher rated in correspondence than blitz (500 points higher) and it's literally impossible for me to play over 90% accurate, even though I spend hours on each move, because nobody plays really bad moves in correspondence and the games are long. In blitz people often play like shit and it's easier to find a really strong move, like threatening checkmate for example.
Doesn't stop me from feeling like a god when I play a perfect or near-perfect game against a fellow 1400 though lol @@sebu1301
So you're just salty af cuz you lost to an opponent with high accuracy.
I believe his username is supposed to be read "Catch me, if you can 69"
He's a cheater
that is hilarious, thanks for the laugh!
Oh no my opponent uses Stockfish.
oh no your stockfish
Opponent suspiciously played a complicated endgame perfectly, never taking more than 2 seconds per move.
Not saying they cheated, but it seems like there's a big glut of cheaters around 2000 rapid elo. Other speedruns tend to encounter more cheaters at that range.
Also the fact that his account is less than 1 month old
Ya I’m calling cheating on that
The account was just created June 24, 78% won, 189 games Rapid at the time of this comment, July 9.
He’s also gained another 100 elo since this video
Hello Eric, thanks for putting up this game despite the fact it has been rightfully removed from your record. In episode 56 you had more wins. Well done for not making accusations but I could see on your face that one hurt. Keep up the good work - I love your series and it has been incredibly helpful. Now...about that Alekhine defence...is that an option at this level?
Cheers
👍
ERIC THE ACCOUNT HAS BEEN CLOSED FOR FAIR PLAY YOUR STREAK IS ALIVE 😀
I have never seen a chess player be so graceful in defeat
Ouch!*
*pending further investigation
Just a general update, but the account was closed for violating fair play policies 😊
Gotta love mr Rosen! My 1700 rated ass spotted some sus action quite early in the game, but Eric just played through with a straight face 😂
Yep, it starts around 2k elo, Naroditsky had I think 5 episodes of speedrun (the first one) facing cheater after cheater at around 2100-2300
@@mariuszpudzianowski8400 that’s my rating range, and there’s a lot of cheaters. I’d guess 1 or 2 games out of 10 my opponent cheats to some extent. It’s lower when I avoid new accounts.
Players with decent chess skills are very good at hiding their tracks, but you can still feel when they switch the engine on. That’s why I prefer playing OTB.
I just don't understand the point. Like the more you cheat the more you're outclassed as your elo raises but your skill doesn't, so what's the end goal
@@CSRgamerthe end goal is to not feel bad or angry because someone else wins. Eric still won against him, but not against the engine he was using. But he didn't feel as bad as he would. Short term. Long term, he is an even bigger loser, but this reality might or might not hit him, sooner or later.
In his pov: he achieved a win.
In reality's pov: his clicking ability has been used by a computer, after he told him, which piece he has to move to a certain square.
@@rhysgriffiths9675 That's when you hear from your opponent *Bzzz bzz* and you know it wasn't his phone
Oh no it's at all ranks, they just tend to rise because of all their cheated wins. Under 1000 is an absolute nightmare because people sandbag to keep cheating down there
LMAOOOOOO 17:56 when the rook repeats d5 and f5 🤣
Very fishy moves!
Opponent turned on his engine at the end-start the procedure
I would say he played his prep in the opening, the every move is engine's move.
Pretty sure it was on from the start
@@rhysgriffiths9675 nah, he would play much better moves then, people at that level DO have some tricky lines prepared that might not be the best objectively but are hard to play against in practice, Danya ran into such case in his speedrun - everyone was sure it's a cheater but after looking that line up it was actually well known thing for several years and couple GMs even played it.
@@mariuszpudzianowski8400 its also a tactic that some use to lower there accuracy...without losing pieces

C'mon, you're exaggerating.
Oh no, my Rosen! (Please come back to this series!)
Looked at some of their other games. On some games they hang pieces like an 800 rated player, on others they play fine. They're either cheating or sharing the account
@@salmanshah-ci3yr to be fair I’m the same rating and I also hang pieces or blunder badly out of the opening sometimes. On a bad day it will happen 3-4 times in a row and I realise I’m tired and stop playing.
@@rhysgriffiths96751300 rated players don’t even hang pieces. This is just not true

Obvious engine moves

very happy to get to see this game the hour it released
I was having red flags go off in my head before the suspicious endgame. Just the way he played the opening at his rating level was like somebody trying to slip in a few inaccuracies to throw off the algorithms.
@@Grannyknockers I had red flags go off as soon as he blocked his bishop in with his queen. So did Eric. No one does that at 2000.

Eric, change your statistics to: 170 wins, 0 draws, 0 losses (to humans), 1 loss to a cheater (using Stockfish)
Great series, looking forward to it as always :)
Looked at some of the losses on the account. Shocking blunders. No chance to beat Eric and make those blunders within a month of eachother.
The difference between you and your opponent: you understood his moves, he didn't.
I've been kinda rooting for the underdogs during all of these episodes-mostly to show that anyone can win. Its taught me the big difference between ratings.
I always thought it would be a strange opening that would win but something weird happened. I couldn't root for the underdog. Half way though I wanted you to kick his butt.
Because you're jealous of his rook endgame knowledge.
catchmeifucan69 sounds like a Ben Finegold username
Sounds like a cheater username.
Seems you can't spell that username with "fu".
@eric-rosen It appears this may be the end of this series. Thank you very much for such instructive and entertaining content.
As soon as I saw the title, I was like damn it! it's going to be the first loss of the Speedrun 🤕
Did user change his name or something. Looks like his account was closed but CatchMeIfYouCan69 isn't the the name anymore. It's GreenFlag49 and is closed due to fair play policy.
Account looks super fishy to me and their account name is basically a confession.
.... and they've been banned
I played one called "pumpkin eater" plus some numbers and this site let them just keep on cheatin'
Banging out e4-e5 in the opening that quickly was suspect.
What? That's a common idea if someone studies weird smith-morra sidelines
Honestly seeing these “cheater” comments on this game is quite funny tbh.
As far as I can tell this is a pretty damn human game. With the moves these people are concerned about being actually natural strategic ideas.
Not discounting cheating being possible (you’d have to look at the profile for that). But with how Eric played it’s fairly normal for this to be a loss with his time management at the end.
@@FlamingFalconMan Look at the profile then, dude made such progress in a month that he's either a titled player smurfing or a cheater.
e4-e5 in these kind of positions is like the only thing to consider, even low elo people think about that kind of moves
Opponent changed his name to "greenflag49" and then was promptly banned for fair play a few days later. Good on you Eric though for trying to give credit to your opponent even though in this case it wasn't deserved.
As of today this guy is banned for cheating.
it seems like Eric has stop making speedruns. please continue!!! we miss the speedruns
Is it just me or some filter activates at 11:28?
Just checked my editing software. It's not just you! It looks like auto color-correction was accidentally turned on for a small segment of the video. Hopefully it's not too distracting.
@@eric-rosenThe only thing that's distracting is the 14 day old SF account.. So you're all good!
16:20 Just abandon the bishop and take the pawn to win. Unstoppable promotion.
Opponent account got closed for cheating. The streak is still alive!
Broooooo I watched all 170 games and this hurts I will go cry now
Yeah as everyone is already saying, this person is extremely suspicious
The first opponent is cheating don't count it as a loss Eric
his name is catchmeifucan69, can't get more blatant and gross than that
Dude. That endgame was way too sus
This guy was banned for cheating!
The rook sacrifice at the end to promote is a brilliant move and very hard to find, he did it very quickly, i call bs.
Good news everyone.
The account has been terminated. So the streak is technically NOT BROKEN! 😊
@9:59 there is an idea e5e4 if rook takes then there is a fork, this also opens the bishop xray on b2 with your Rook to b1
OH NO HIS ENGINE!
Oh no my clock ! Have watched every single SpeedRun has been epic ! cheers
Thank you for reminding me why I hate a fianchetto. White had all pieces active while your knight, bishop and both rooks were mere spectators.
Danya has just encountered an even more blatant example, with an 1100 using an engine. For the first ten moves or so, they played as themselves, then the engine kicked in. I must admit, it was interesting to watch as Danya went from the verge of winning, to having to think increasingly, to being outplayed at speed in the ending. I think Danya tried hard not to say anything but in the end it was obvious cheating.
I'd love to see you play a rematch against that individual.
Update: this account is now closed for fair play violations
The moves are EXACTLY 2 secs on the end game. Tbh I did not expect you to get this far with no loses since there are many cheaters on this game. I feel like its fair to not count this game
Hey, 170 is a nice round number, at least. And if the opponent really did use an engine like people are saying, then obviously it doesn't count. Either way, it was a fun and instructive game!
Remember, when losing: They are hackers and report.
Everyone is talking about the specific moves and the username and the time taken, but the opening was trash and Eric stabilizing is crazy.
Anyone that understands what it means to be a high level chess player would look at 12:35 and say “an IM lost to a 2000 in this position without obvious blunders” and immediately know that the opponent used an engine.
It had to happen. Still an awesome game. Very unusual opening yes. 1 game episode! I need more Eric.
The losing move I think was just 16:34 Rxf5. Instinctive recaptcher but much more important to take the more advanced outside pawn.
Eric also at 15:13 you shouldve took the pawn with the rook would've been winning
great series, been here since the beginning. I was confused as to why you didn't take the a6 pawn with your king at 16:46?
Username makes a lot of sense if you think about it. He did get caught though
Love to see your videos in the morning lineup as I sip my coffee.
Just went through the most recent game he played, and he basically gave the other guy the game with dumb moves. No way it was actually him playing this game. Gross. That's no loss.
So, now that this user is banned, I wonder what Eric will put up as his record in the speedrun.
I guess we'll know soon enough.
New account, from India, with a trollish name. Definitely red flags. The biggest to me is how he was able to turn the game around from -4 to -2.5 before Eric's blunder. And don't forget that blunders at this level are usually the result of being out-played and out-positioned beforehand.
Eric I love you ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Can’t wait for Anti-Ouch episode 58😊
eric thanks for the video :)

at 10:00 was the h pawn not capturable? thinking about f3, Bc6, Rh1, Nxf3, gxf3, Bxf3 resulting in a fork of the rooks, ending up in an endgame two pawns up? Or am I missing something?
I wondered this too but yeah f3 looks like it traps the knight. As you pointed out, its more complicated than that and seems to work.
16:22 I would have sac the bishop with fxg that should be a clean win
Correct, it would have been 3 pawns for a bishop, easy win scenario
But would you find fxg with only 1:13 left.
