In this Beginner to Master Speedrun Series, I try to climb the rating ladder while providing lots of lessons about chess along the way. In this episode, I play 3 highly instructive chess games that all feature fun tactical battles in the Sicilian Defense

Eric calculates a deep line for 5 minutes. Opponent doesn't go into it and immediately blunders instead
After all, isn't that what chess is all about? Lol
weird, when i calculate a deep line it's me who immediately blunders instead XD
I deep calculate many moves ahead for 5 minutes and then my opponent plays the best move...... that I didn't even see.
That's been the theme of this series lol. Giving oppo too much credit.
this is becoming as enjoyable as it was to wait for new episodes in a hot tv series to come out back in the day
This also speak volumes about current tv shows.
@@stevepriority4219 It really just speaks that you guys have shit taste. 3bp, hotd, the expanse, shogun, andor... to be frank if you can't find great shit right now you are just extremely lazy and conceited.
156 wins in a row? Kramnik would like to know... your favourite tea
Ok let's do the procedure....
@@BICIeCOMPUTERconGabriele lol step 1 boil water ;p
Eric was lossing many times opponents just can't punish
I love these series. As an 1200 player its very nice to hear your thought process during the games. It helps me to understand the different ideas en possible tactics in the position. Keep it going.
50 minutes of pure high quality content!!
Oh no my sleep schedule!
Bro what are you talking about it’s 7pm (America is the only country in the world)
@@gristlecassidy3406bro what are you talking about? It’s 5pm here (California is the only state in the US)
Lol
I'm watching starting 3:30am... good job it's the weekend!
Old and recycled comment fishing for a pin
The real takeaway from this is to think of how good you’ve gotten at chess after tons of hard work.
…and then realize 10 year old Eric wouldve annihilated you 😂
this is why im thankful for chess boxing
There goes Eric Rosen with the Sicilian pork
Huge fan of this series. Thanks for keeping the education interesting, Eric!
always such a delight to see a new episode! :D :D
thank you giving your thinking process. it's very cool. i did learn a lot.
I have been waiting for this for days
I’m also doing a beginner to master speed run. Not going as well as yours. 🤔
I am doing a master to beginner Speedrun and it is going extremely well
Kramnik: very interesting
@@duck20484beginner to braindead speed run on the horizon?
@@davidshatto7604 soon
Still stuck somewhere around beginner, despite 500 games played. What the heck?
Eric: "this could be a long term weakness"
Light Square Bishop: Say no more 🫡
This video comes in clutch right after I was brushing up my Accelerated Dragon!
Hi Eric!
You are very humble and a good person, keep it up
EXCELLENT TO SEE SOME BACK TO BACK SICILIAN PLAY AT THIS LEVEL IN THE SPEED RUN. WELL DONE ERICK, THANK YOU, .. MIKE.
46:22 Eric: "It's still not easy"
10 seconds later: (Opponent resigns)
Mr Rosen! Always a pleasure
Seeing this upload makes me happy.
Very insightful games for what to do after the opening in the accelerated dragon
That position at 33:24 is SHARP.
The problem was even 10 moves deep the computer says your winning and it’s still not clear to me, not even worth calculating because who knows if you’ll even get that position anyways
I cant figure out on my own what to do after rh4 except giving a few checks with queen and rook. Crazy position
@@niklaswirges9085 Exactly. Rh4 threatens check-mate in next move and there is nothing you can do to defend that. Eric should have finished the analysis so we can see how white is winning.
@@niklaswirges9085 I saw Nf8 after Rh4 but thought after Bxf8 Rxf8 I'm just losing cuz I can't defend h7. But Bxf8 is losing cuz there's Qa1# 😂
26:49 Nah, your opponent had an emergency diaper change to take care of! :) Or even just an emergency run to the loo.
The way he calculates and then just plays the line out with conviction…
Absolutely love the accel dragon!
greatest chess content in the world
11:42 I was waiting for "WHO IS THE LOSER NOW?!"
Man! You said “pizza delivery” while in on my 72 hour fast. And now I’m even more hungry 😂
No lie, he said Pizza Delivery right as I went to checkout on my Pizza Delivery.
Impossible challenge: having to not mention you are on a fast every comment when on a fast
Keep up the Sicilian speed runs please! Would love a French series after too… Thanks Eric!
Love this series! Ever since I started watching my rating has dropped 150 elo because I'm playing too slow! Maybe one day I'll be able to play slow and still win.
I love the content.
Legend
first game reminds me of the karpov vs kaspalov octopus knight game
Thanks so much for this speedrun series Eric. Theyve really inspired me to get myself improving as best I can. Cheers from New Zealand.
Yessss!
that opponent wanted you to think he was gonna let the clock run out and then not notice him move, no pizza deliveries
Haha, "icing the kicker"! You could be right. Eric has a nice habit of trying to always think the best of people
”I dont want to take too long here ”
*proceeds to think four minutes in a ten minute game….
Game 1, nice
I seem to be thinking a bit more like Eric, having followed this throughout. I am around 1300 rapid rating, so not in Eric's league, but especially in game 3, I found myself coming up with a lot of the same moves Eric played or at least considered in complex positions. Where he decided to play Bf5, I had picked Be6, which Eric had considered and the engine preferred, so I am even more proud of that.
you went to rock climbing camp? what grade do you climb?
I wonder what sort of a “ fun character” the first gamer was. World has all sorts for sure 😂
I was suffering Eric speed run withdrawal symptoms, episode 50 just in time for my addiction fix. First game is a great positional crush against a high rating, where most pieces are still on the board at the end
"losergiveup" was true to their name, they gave up checkmate instead of trying to hold on.
on Lichess it will auto resign only if you disconnect or close the browser page of that match
Special request! Play a taimanov Sicilian please ❤️❤️❤️
Never mind. I watched a minute in haha.
Hayes this man is him
9:32 wasn‘t there Nxf2 to win a pawn, or am i missing something? Because Bxf2 and Qxf2 hangs the queen, Kxf2 hangs the bishop and I didn‘t see any intermediate moves.
Probably just missed it, looks very nice
I think BxB from white, ignoring the knight is a problem
I can't believe a 1700 didn't retake the Queen. That was horrendous.
d5 in that position is crazy
Yay! 😊
Hey, I paused @ 21:58. I'm seeing knight takes pawn, h4, d4, bxg7, dxc3, qh6, be6, bxf8, pxb2. And either kb1, qxa7, or kxb2, rb8, and either qa6, or qxa2.
Dear all, is it good to play Qxa4 at 9:41 ‘s position??
25:35 Now you know how nearly every opponent of yours thinks! 😁
as an AD player I would play 12...Bxe5 any day of my life. Always happy to get the center, dark sqare dominance and a strong attack for an exchange
what about the rock climbing camp t-shirt? do you still climb from time to time? :)
I don't think I've rock climbed in over 15 years, but maybe I'll get back into it at some point!
Was Nxf2 a move at 9:23 ?
40:00 why is it always like this rhat when someone disconnects in a complex position they just immediately play their move when they get back? Often the best move too
Where episode 51? In addicted to this series and it’s Sunday
I've recorded it, and will edit it soon! Will likely release it within the next 48 hours.
@33:22 I don't understand engine line. White's Rh4 is check-mate in next move. How do you defend that?
Eric should have finish the analysis.
After Rh4, Nf8 saves the day and black is one move quicker to mate with queen and rook than white so white has to defend and eventually get a loosing position
33:13 how do you stop Rxd7 and Bf6
I wish you still played Excellerated Dragon after 3...Bc4. There's still 4. g6 isn't there? If opponent tries 4...Ng4 you still have 5. e6 attack the Knight and preventing the Bishop move forcing d3 or Knight back to f3 maybe so you have a little initiative?
Love watching Rosen seal clubbing.
In the second game, I don't understand how the queen has h6, the square would be undefended and the king would just take the queen?
Oh yes i missed it last night and actually sleep
First game was too smooth while in the second you were scared a bit but nothing happened! You won the queen otherwise! The third one was the recap of the Sicilian defense lesson!
What if after this you used the same account and went through blitz and bullet starting at 400
finallyyyy
24:00 After taking the rook instead of the queen I wonder how this opponent got to 1739.. probably by cheating
Your opponents must be thinking they are playing a protegy when they look at your pfp.
Whee - I just like your shirt in the profile pic :)
Kramnik screaming rn
Please also make video on how to stop
making blunders
Git gud lol
(No but that actually sounds like a good video)
Use more time
@@ieaatclams people dont like to hear it but it really is that simple.
Play longer games and examine moves for longer than you want to.
It’s not fun and there’s no shortcut to it but you will get (slightly) better at it over time.
I used to average using 1:30 in a rapid game, now I'm at 3:00 and rose 250 rating points. It is that simple like you said
Dr. Can has this video up
Losergiveup lol! that’s the best name
Dude come on its 4:35am ………….
9:17 Kxf2, funciona?
White prob plays BxB and rook cant take back because of queen behind
losergiveup got absolutely crushed.😅
how does this guy have so much time in a 10 min game with no increment ? Either I run out of time in the endgame or blunder badly in this kind of rapid game :(
I learned the Sicilian is probably my least favorite opening. You can play it well though.
My gf said you have limited cheek movement
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I’m surprised he didn’t take on e4 at 2:30
Center fork doesn’t work because the e pawn is pinned
@@MyBiPolarBearMax It worked on the move before at 2:00, after 6.Re1 Black can immediately equalize with 6...Nxe4! It's not immediately obvious that it's the best move for black as after Bxe4 Qxe4 there's Nc3 and White gets some initiative.
Didnt really like that caricature that much
Best openings for a 1000 rated player?
London system
Can't wait to see sicilian smash on the hub
That hub?
HOWWW are 1700's making worse mistakes then the 900's i play??
They're not. Or at least, not anywhere near as often. Watching a game where a professional player is constantly explaining his thought process is not the same as playing.
HONK!!
Perhaps we should be able to see how the engine comments on how much rating you are playing... and the accuracy
36:29 Eric's cheating
Last game. "Its not easy". Bishop and queen vs two rooks and rook next move is gone by pin with bishop, so rook vs queen. But still not easy xDDDD. Maybe vs Cagnus Marlsen. It is about 800 ELO point gap but you still keep tension. C`mon. You are better than this.
He explained why it wasn't easy, and showed that the evaluation bar is not equivalent to a queen vs rock+pawn. The opponent's king is safe and the rock defends the two weak pawns very well.

This Rosen guy has some issues with himself. Happy to beat some low level players like he won against GMs. He will never reach GM level.
