- Our experience getting the Eurotunnel to England in times of Covid. We set off from Italy a few days before the French Border Police decided to closed the borders and decided that as we had already driven so far we might as well keep going.

The stress this trip caused...me! LOL Carlo cracked me up when he gave options for proof of a child and Holly's face when she thought she was being left in the car when you swapped drivers and then finally making it to your parent's home! So many emotions!! Thanks for sharing!
I cried at the end - we drive from England to Portugal ( and back again!) every year but this year was very emotional as well. Tests and border controls! I could feel your stress! There is something very magical about car journeys across countries. Thank you!

I thought the same. When I saw you check-in at the Pet Reception, I was not sure if Holly would be in a separate area as they have with the ferries. I was relieved when I saw Holly with you in your car's passenger compartment, as I know she feels most happy and secure when she is with you.

Beautiful heartwarming ending - really happy you both made it across. The rule change caught several people out, and I think it was unfair of the French government to impose these restrictions just before the holidays with very little notice.

You mean driving through beautiful countries, driving their car to sit in a train to go through a tunnel under the sea is senseless? Or checking in her dog and the border patrol? Every country on earth has had border check ins for several decades. It’s not senseless, it has always precaution for countries to be safe. If you don’t know the reason, look it up, do research and you’ll understand why. If you don’t want all that, go out there and do something about it.

This was very emotional for so many it seems, including me. As a Brit who hasn't been home since 2017 and lives in Canada, it is lovely to live vicariously through you . I can't believe you used to work in Cullen's in Weybridge! In high school I stayed with a friend in St. George's Hill and we'd walk or take our bikes over to Cullen's and eat the hot bread and drink some of their crazy fizzy waters, like clear flavored plastic cans from Iceland. I think there was a Safeway there too, but we went to Cullen's a lot. We'd go to Wimbledon and other local attractions. We'd go to Cobham for school sports tournaments at ACS. The summers of 1990 & 1991 we're especially fun there.

I can almost envision what happened after you shut off the camera. A meal, nice relaxing beverage and a wonderful much needed restful sleep. So exhausting for you and I'm sure your Dad pacing the floor until you arrived at his doorstep. No matter how old we are, parents will worry.

I used to cross the channel constantly, living and working in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. I gave up with the Chunnel because I found it terribly boring. I ended up simply using the ferry and, although it took a little longer, the getting out of the car, stretching my legs wandering around the boat, watching the coast arrive if the weather permitted, maybe getting a meal and a coffee, is a far more pleasant experience.
You hugging your dad had me in tears. Enjoy your time there!

Thank you for explaining how the Chunnel works. I had no idea that you got on a train to go through. And only 20 minutes, that's fast. When people don't expect others have the knowledge or experience and take the time to explain how it works they do others a kindness. Also, Carlo's drone shots in the town at sunset were fabulous. In the States we have a similar tunnel called the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel in Virginia. My late husband and I were in Fredricksburg, Virginia in 1996 for his job and so we tried to soak it all up - Washinton, DC, Arlington National Cemetery, the civil war battlegrounds with canons still in place as well as the historical sites from the civil war in Fredricksburg. I was crying for you at the end when you finally got to see your dad!

Unreal 🤩🤩watching an Italian-British couple going through border checkpoints same way citizens of (now) Central EU countries would do it ALWAYS in 60/70/80, for 30+ yrs, until Schengen was created.
I'm Polish, remember my first trip abroad, as a high schooler, to the German Democratic Republic, it was a field trip of the whole class. Emotions were similar to yours, Niki and Carlo.
And all subsequent trips for the next 20 yrs looked same. Of course we were NEVER allowed to travel to the Western EU, just within the Eastern Block.
The UK is now unfortunately no longer a member of the EU, hence a lot of additional red tape and hassle.
That was pretty interesting. Thanks for showing us all that you had to go through to get to England, and how to use the tunnel under the sea.

Awe! This was such a good video! Nikki-the vlogmas content-as time consuming as it was for you really elevated your content this past month (imo). It was good before but these Dec/Jan vids have been so great and your energy is inspiring!
So happy it all worked out in the end. So many bloggers from Portugal were not allowed in at Christmas time and had to deal with what to do and the hard cold news crushed them. Just like you they have not been home in years. We are living in historic times of unknown.
Love that you shared the experience! Last time I was in Europe driving around I could barely notice that a border was crossed!! Just after a little while the style of building s changed and signs went from French to German and back again.... I loved an OPEN Europe! Seriously they Plandemic changed everything and it's not about our health anymore... we did everything "they" asked and we are still being treated like peasants! OK... enough venting... That face is all of us when our partners overstate their abilities!! I, too, got a little emotional seeing your dad, knowing that he would have you with him on the holidays and beyond. I had NO idea what an orderly procedure is in place, for traveling through the Euro Tunnel. Truly brilliant. I just assumed that individual cars drove through it. I often wondered about what an absolute nightmare would be caused by a flat tire or an accident. I truly felt stressed, watching your own stress while waiting your turn at each checkpoint. 😵💫
Love seeing your father. He has to be thrilled to have you all there.
A man from my town worked on the project for digging out the Chunnel. He worked for a famous Intl Construction Co whose headquarters were here. Of course long gone now. Sold and resold. Dissolved into oblivion. Chunnel, Hoover Dam, lots of others plus beautiful city park donated to us. Home sweet home. Hope your holiday was good.
