Living in a van, must make this place seem like a palace. Ownership is never over rated, so happy for you guys. How life can change in a few short years.❤❤❤
We definitely wouldn't mind having some exposed stone in the house - unfortunately in this case it does need to be fixed by professionals. But perhaps we could have some other areas more exposed like that.. thanks for the comment and for watching!
@TravelBeans To begin, those type mattresses are not to be sat upon for many hours until they set up in expansion. Grab a few comfortable chairs, table, 2 propane stoves to cook meals. Enjoy ! Happy for you !
I live in Australia and have a Sicilian sister by another mother! I've been adopted into their family and have experienced the most amazing sense of family. Embrace it and enjoy the journey - your lives will be so much richer.
We visited Sicily a few years ago and loved it. One of our favourite places was Ragusa which we were lucky enough to visit during the festival of St Georgio - check it out. We found a table outside a cafe at the foot of the cathedral steps and had a ringside view whilst drinking cocktails and being plied with delicious free snacks. As you said the people were super friendly.
As someone who’s lived in whilst simultaneously renovating a house. I’d suggest a wardrobe, chest of drawers or something cheap/second hand.. a dedicated clean space to put your clothes. Living out of a suitcase can be a real challenge. When you come to working in that bedroom, it’s much easier to cover the bed and wardrobe with a drop cloth or something and not have it to schlep it out or covered in dirt after a long day’s work. Similar to where you store your dishes and food. If you keep in theme with camping, there’s some great pieces to use for both… also, it won’t go to waste when you finally find pieces you’ll actually furnish the house with. Unless of course you find the perfect pieces. 😅
Patience is not only a virtue, it's a necessity! You now have somewhere to sleep. Good start. Does your shower work? Do you have a working sink? Your next visit is to a grocery store or Brico to stock up on supplies. Cleaning supplies, kitchen basics, bathroom supplies, and whatever gets you through an average day without you breaking into tears. Soaps, toilet tissue, cleaning products, dish cloths, towels, dishes, flatware, pots and pans, a dish tub for washing dishes, toilet brush, a mirror for the bathroom, mouse traps, Kitchen storage containers for dried foods you can leave when you go traveling (pasta, flour, sugar, dried beans, corn meal etc) and a short cupboard you can store all that in. One for the kitchen and one for the bathroom.
There are a million reasons to get frustrated with moving to Sicily but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else. Sicily has been very good to us as transplants. Your love of Sicily will only grow. You have fans on island. Glad you all are here.
Looks great! Having been slowly doing up an old house myself I'd say get the plasterers in before buying more furniture just to save yourself the hassle of moving it all out again.
I think I would find a dining table that you could use to eat at and use for food prep. Maybe some extra dining chairs so you can invite Sara, Luca and Lucce to join you. It would also give you a place to work from.Definitely check out the second hand stores. Maybe buy a plug in induction hob for cooking - think IKEA sell them. Oh and maybe a fridge and see if you can get it delivered.
Sweet Emma .. that gratitude 🙏 that burst out of your eyeballs is one of the best feelings ever!! 😂😊❤❤❤.. Noah is a little man now!! Beautiful Boy😊WOW!!! Lolll
Commenting before I've watched 😂... loving this series, can't wait to see what you do with your new place, & how your Italian la Dolce Vita evolves in your chosen town 🎉 & Ikea is fine - it's practical, it facilitates life, your channel isn't about interior decorating - it's about experiencing the world. Some boho cushions, poster prints of photos from your favourite places, some soft rugs, eclectic bits and pieces over time... the Ikea basics will blend right in & serve their purpose 😊 Edit: I'm with you Emma... I love building flat pack (PS I'm not a serial killer 😂).
I like what you said about Food and Family...because that is a perfect name for the phase of life you are entering...the focus will be food and family. Fun and Adventure will still be a priority, only no longer the focus. (until empty nesting time, then fun and adventure will return as the focus). I think your first home is charming and a perfect place to start your next chapter. Has baby fever got ya yet because before you know it baby number two will be joining the journey. Congratulations and Many Blessings!
Wow ~ growing up in Australia since the 70s through to this day where Italians and Sicilians are called every version of extreme racism and my Sicilian father is called a wog, dago, foreigner and trespasser ... thank you for your beautiful words about who Sicilians truly are. Thank you, grazie mille.
Happy new home. If I were you I would make the kitchen area VERY modern but the remainder of the rooms TRADITIONAL with, however a comfortable sofa in the main living room. Good Luck and Cheers, Michael
Hey Beans, this could be a good idea for a future vid. I went to Sicily a few years back and there are lots of protected underwater nature reserves. You could hire a small boat and go for a snorkle. Its seriously unreal. Hard to believe it's just below the surface! Great vid guys 😊
I Love your small family & joyous attitude! Emma your emotional reactions are SO sweet especially with Noah dancing! Sicilians are so genuinely friendly! IKEA to the rescue! 🤞You will work it out in regard to furnishings no rush! Love from Australia 🐨🇦🇺🍻💜💙💙
While I sit here, alone with my cat, and living w/my mother...ya'll are living a dream life...this comment is a bittersweet one...I hope one day to make my life at least halfway to where you guys are, at least living on my own again would be nice, traveling and doing van life I hope will change my situation (yes, I bought one!)...thanks for being an inspiration....so cute that Noah is talking and walking now!
Congratulations! What a wonderful life milestone to celebrate. It reminds me of my early moves. I would definitely get a wardrobe and chest of drawers next. Makes the beginning of each day much easier and more pleasurable. Also some lighting next to the bed will give you a nice ambience as the days get shorter. I suspect you will need a portable heater too if you plan to be there over winter. And of course, a washing machine (or washer dryer in one to save space) I assume there is no laundromat in the small village.
It is common to sell a home furnished where we lived before we moved into our current home. We took our time and furnished our entire home with second hand furnishings. It was so much fun finding so many wonderful old things that puts the new stuff to shame. We LOVE it! Happy shopping and I love your new home. If we weren't retired seniors and being close to medical conveniences is important, I would seriously consider Sicily. Who knew? Guess I'll just live vicariously through my favorite beans.
Thank you Travel Beans. It can't be easy to be filming as you are building your new & exciting life in your beautiful new surroundings. I wish you all the very best. 👪🏡🍝🗻Buona Fortuna!
I respect so much the importance you put on sleep. I know many times in my life and in the culture of the United States is you sleep on the floor you sleep in bad situations, whatever, you don't rent a room for the night to make sure you have a good bed to function at your best the next day. I just love that you value a good bed because now that I'm older with health conditions, I wished I would have spent more time protecting my body when I was young.
You arrived in Sicily and rented an English car, how curious this fact is. Unfortunately MG was acquired by the Chinese, but it was originally an English brand. Enjoy your life in Sicily!!
So exciting! Embrace the imperfections! Next thing to buy is a couch. Then go second hand shopping (or charity/antique stores) for bedside tables, chairs and then tables and kitchen items. Good luck! Jacqui 🇦🇺🐨

It means you can still do your trips away, but can spend more time in your Sicilian base, tailored for life with a child, while still offering interesting, travel-related content. Perfect!
I want to remind you I live across the straits en Calabria I would love to go visit the beans in the new house I will take care of Noah while you guys work!;!

Hi Emma and Alex, I think the next thing you should buy is a fridge and a kitchen table and chairs then a lounge suite and eventually a washing machine and dryer
Ikea is exhausting. My husband is half Swedish, and I let him build the things, because he was born with an Allen Key in his hand. I think you need a refrigerator/freezer and washing machine next for the practical life stuff. A sofa would also be on my list.
Good Morning Beans from Charleston, South Carolina USA. I wish I had the funds, I would love to travel over for a visit. Perhaps lend a hand lugging some furniture and stuff. It's beautiful there. I lived in the Friuli region just above Venice. I miss Italy. Enjoy watching your channel. Cheers!
Hi 🫘, hope your doing well, I saw you in the west country few weeks ago walking down the street, holding Noah’s hand as he walk down the street too, it walk all my British reserve to stop shouting “BEANS OUT” as I drove past 😂
I would get a proper bed for Noah next, as soon as my kids could walk I put them in a bed with cot mattress next to it incase they fell out. Plus if they got up in the night they came straight in our room and I would just lift them in bed and they would be straight to sleep. I know some don't like this but for me i needed my sleep. My grandkids didn't sleep well in a travel cot.
Buy a nice couch table and chairs second hand that wall is a easy fix just get it plasted and then paint i am a 69 year old and did all my jobs around the house Goodluck to you both ❤❤❤❤
Hi buy some carpet so your sweet boy can play on the floor, and definitely some beautiful old furniture from the second hand shop .And I personally love the chandelier it’s gives the room something special. It will be so nice to celebrate Christmas there with a lot of candles .I love 2 hand store also for plates nice glassware everything you just to be patience to find the stuff you really like, It will be a cosy nest for all of you . I agree…Lego for grown ups. I always feel so accomplished when I’m done assembling IKEA furniture!
Congratulations on your new bed 🎉🎉🎉
