    I so wish I am the one doing that shift The way you narrate it , it's like the normal shift I'm used to it here in South Africa. If you mentioning patients less than 10 per RN I feel that it is so cool. I have been applying but with no luck and I'm still continuing. 😇😇😇

      Hi Queen. Good to see you again. Yes, South Africa nursing practice could be close to USA. Even so, 7 patients can have much to do in a single shift. Plan on a hospital whose nurse pt ratio doesn’t exceed 1:6

    • @nursingembassy8018

      The charge nurse. Other nurses may also give a little help within those 30 min. If you as the RN is doing team nursing with an LPN, you may choose which one goes first for lunch. Generally it’s always communication within the team

    Thanks for this information. I'll like to know whether the report too will be done electronically ? How many hours break are nurses entitled to in a shift? Are nurses allowed to bring the food they will eat from home or there is usually provision for that in the hospital?

    • @nursingembassy8018
      @nursingembassy8018  Год назад +3

      Hi Victoria, thanks for the interesting questions. RNs typically do not take any other breaks apart from a 30 minute lunch break. The report is done verbally with the nurse you are handing over to. Yes you can bring your own food from home or use your credit card /cash to buy food in the hospital cafeteria or order lunch online. If you work night shift, you will most likely have to bring your own food. Cases of hospitals providing meals to staff are extremely rare. Be prepared to spend on yourself.

    Good job! Thanks for this information. Pls I'd like to enquire if is possible for a nurse to choose the shifts they would like to do, i.e.only days or only nights. Another one is the different durations of shifts available in the US, e.g. 12hours , 8hours,e.t.c Thanks once again!

    • @nursingembassy8018
      @nursingembassy8018  Год назад +1

      Thanks so much Mercy, yes some hospitals you can choose either 8 hr or 12 hr shift. But some have only one option of e.g 12 hr shifts only.
      For all hospitals, you are free to choose day or night shift. It depends how on your choice

      I have a question along these lines too, do you do self scheduling for your shifts in the USA like some RUclipsrs say or is it pre scheduled for you by your nurse manager ?

    • @nursingembassy8018
      @nursingembassy8018  Год назад +1

      @@rachamooti1088 thanks for the question. For your full time job, the manager will preschedule them but you can discuss with your manager in case you are scheduled on a day where you have a personal program.
      For part time and per diem jobs, you are the one to give the hospital the days when you know you will be free. So they schedule you according to your availability and convenience

      Thats lovely to hear. Here in SA,we only allowed to work 40 hours a week by law, however we find ways to exceed this as we need the extra income but its very very exhausting.fro my research USRNs work 36 hours a week ?

    Are there no ward rounds or wound dressing?

    • @nursingembassy8018
      @nursingembassy8018  Год назад

      It’s called patient rounding but each doctor does so on his/her patients. The nurse may or may not attend

    Who dresses the wound

    • @nursingembassy8018
      @nursingembassy8018  Год назад

      The RN/LPN dresses the wound. Doctors also love doing the first wound dresses after a surgical procedure e.g incisional dressings
