  • Naughty Dog brings The Last of Us Part 2 over to PlayStation 5 with a native app, extra modes, graphics upgrades and a wealth of behind-the-scenes materials. But with the PS4 Pro version already upgraded for PS5 with a 60fps, just how much of an upgrade are owners of the original game getting - and is the extra $10 asking price worth it? Resident TLOU expert, Oliver Mackenzie, has all the answers.

      It is a remaster tho, I think people get confuse. Remasters, or when you change the games, visuals and add content, but without changing any of the code remakes are when you completely remake the game from the ground up.

      It has been re-mastered, in other words, mastered/(compiled is the word we use for code) again. It fits the technical definition perfectly, yet not the colloquial definition.

    I can’t help but agree with what John Linneman said: they should’ve called this a Director’s Cut like what Ghost of Tsushima got because it’s very similar. They gave us some additional content, PS5 haptic support, and slight visual enhancements. Calling this a remaster is really overselling what this game is.

The extra content isn't bad, and considering they're allowing people to "upgrade" for $10 is nice for that extra content, but calling it a remaster is a stretch. They could have just either relabeled it to The Last of Us Part II director's cut or just straight up made the extra content paid DLC. Regarding Ambient Occlusion (6:31), maybe the increase in resolution makes the game render more foliage on top of the AO of the foliage behing thus making the image looking like it lacks depth when in reality, there's just more things rendered in front of the AO, blocking the shadowy effect. This is a phenomenon similar to what appens in GTA V regarding anti-aliasing: when using MSAA, the game makes the grass look kind of transparent, which makes it look like it lacks some detail compared to classic FXAA ; the explanation lies in the fact that it just renders too many samples and just can't show them, making it look transparent on anything below 4K.

Naughty Dog had not planned to release a remaster of ToU2, not at least at this time since they were working with the multiplayer but when they had to canceled the multiplayer they decided to release this "remaster" with elements that they had already worked on for the multiplayer, such as the customizations of weapons.

      We can clearly see from the vid that the frame rate cannot go to 120 FPS, but it is basically close to that. Maybe with DRS it woild be possible, but it is understandable.
      And idk if implementing ray tracing would be necessary. The game already looks really good, and there aren't many places where ray tracing is needed. It would be hella expensive and could kill the frame rate.

    • @crestofhonor2349

    • @rehaansiddiqie
      @rehaansiddiqie 4 месяца назад

      @@crestofhonor2349 I know, but that was on PS5 too. But even the PS5 on Backwards Compatibility dropped frames in some sections. And this is on the same platform, but with native PS5 support, so there is potential for higher frame rates, which is shown in the vid. I think it is quite awesome what they did, bc it is around the level of SM1 Performance RT uncapped mode's performance, and TLOU 2 is way more visually impressive than that game.
      Plus, IMO it is unrealistic that we can see a major graphical upgrade, since the PS4 is known for basically being the limit of graphics. This gen is more focused about larger scopes of worlds and more minor visual stuff that isn't too noticable for the average consumer.
