I love your videos, always so informative! I am just beginning to learn how to work with softboxes and the practicality of the MagMod ecosystem. I hope as an ambassador they treat you well, you’ve convinced me to go with MagMod all the way! Please keep them videos coming and cheers from San Francisco!
I love the original with the focus diffuser. It really allows me to add so much more flash power if I need to from two AD200s. I also ordered the 42" for an on-the-go softbox because... 42".
You are correct Sean, if you want more flash power, especially to overpower the sun, then the focus diffuser is awesome! Personally I rarely use off camera flash in bright conditions but that is just a personal style thing, if you do then like you say, the focus diffuser is like magic!
great vid neil, i just bought the original,, think setup is very minor, concern tho iwith the new version is if the white cloth fabric some how gets dirty, are you able to unzip and seperate it and clean it easy, or is it actually buit in and cant sepaerate.
Hi Neil. Sorry to hijack your video a little, but I'm just wondering whether you have ever had a banding issue with you A9 in HSS when using an Ad200? I did a wedding yesterday and every sunset shot is unusable due to banding. This is mostly for shots that are high SS, like 5000 or 8000. Ive read that electronic front curtain may cause this? I was also using a focus diffuser, but can't imagine that would cause it. I never noticed this issue when using A7R3's Cheers!
So now, if the regular diffuser gets damaged, you have to buy a complete Magbox rather than just buying a replacement diffuser that just fits on the end?
Hi Rob, the original diffuser fits on the new MagBox so you could just put that on - the same applies to the original diffusion panel - so it's exactly the same as the first one in that sense :-) for me though I love the fact it's all one unit. I've been using it at weddings for a month now and the chances of it being damaged seem very small
You should do a light test with full length of the model and give more distance between the light to the model! That will give more accurate results! Thanks for all your videos education! 👍
Thank you for your explanation! Is it possible to shoot full body with the Magbox24? That the light is even? Because the softbox is not that big. And is it possible to use my Godoxflashes with this system? Thanks you!
Hi Jola! You could do but it wouldn't be ideal - the new MagMod Strip Box would be far better for full length portraits. And yes, you can use your Godox speedlights - that is what I do 🙂
I use the Flashpoint XPLOR 600PRO TTL Battery-Powered Monolight. I would like to use the MagMod diffusers because of their design. Is there a model for strobes and not just speedlights?
I can guess the answer from looking at the videos but can the new grid be used on the old box alongside the fabric diffuser. That would make an all in one kit for me of choosing between fabric diffuser, focus diffuser and the grid option when i needed it indoors.
Hi Mark, I have tried this now - it is possible but it's clearly not designed for this as the grid doesn't attach to the original MagBox very well - it takes a little bit of time to attach it because the magnets are in slightly different places so it's not easy. It can be done but if you want to have the choice of using all three it is easier to use them on the new MagBox Pro
Hi Indrajit, yes, I have a couple of videos on my channel about the MagBox Pro 42 Octa - if you search back a couple of videos earlier than this one, you will find a couple of videos about it :)
With the new if the zipper fabric broke I'm out... With my original in bright days sun I can save the day with the focus diffuser even with only one Ad200 because + focus = 400w with two, you can reach 800w !! It can't focus a lot but compare to fabric spill the light at 180° it's better. The interesting one for me is the 36" The new model is yes.. Very fast to set up.
The thing to remember is, even if the zipper did break (which I think is very unlikely - I have been using them pretty intensely at weddings for a few weeks now) you can just use the fabric panel and focus diffuser from the first MagBox if you have them - they fit on the new MagBox perfectly
But the panels from the first MagBox 24, fit the new one MagBox Pro 24 perfectly. The chances of anything happening to the zip must be very small though. Obviously time will tell but they are very well made
I guess you could say that about any part of any equipment? I have been using them for months now and no issues at all. Personally I much prefer the integrated nature of the new one but it's all personal choice :-)
It's a matter of opinion. I do not know of any other alternative which can be set up in seconds like the MagBox? And if you are a wedding photographer like me that time saving is massive on a wedding day. For me, as with all my equipment, I would prefer to buy the best I can afford knowing that the advantages they gives me over years will be well worth it

@@NeilRedfern any difference in the color
That generates. Same light temperature or the newest version is more to the cold side ???
I love your videos Neil. Would be great to see a video about group shots. Do you do family formals? If not how do set up a large group, any good tips?
Thank you very much! There is a great suggestion - please watch this space 🙂

What happens if you damage your diffusion panel on the pro? Do you have to replace the whole unit?
YES, I own one and it is a weakness.
Thank you, Neil! I was wondering what the difference is.
My pleasure! I hope you found the video useful

Hello, is it possible to use the grid on the old one, even if you put inside?

@@NeilRedfern Thank you for helping me out!
Question: Neil, I have the old magbox. I want to put a grid on it. Do you know of any grid that will attach to the old magbox 24? Thank you.
I don't I'm afraid, sorry
I use the
Flashpoint XPLOR 600PRO TTL Battery-Powered Monolight. I would like to use the MagMod diffusers because of their design. Is there a model for strobes and not just speedlights?
yes you just have to buy the magbox speedring for your strobe mount

Thank you very much Trevor! I am LOVING the new MagBoxes!
Did you possibly compare putting a grid on the flash instead of using the more unwieldy grid over the front of the softbox?
Thanks for this. You mentioned a MagMod 42 inch softbox. I have never seen that. Do you have any videos of that?
Hi Indrajit, yes, I have a couple of videos on my channel about the MagBox Pro 42 Octa - if you search back a couple of videos earlier than this one, you will find a couple of videos about it :)

Like zippers sometimes, what is the recourse if the zipper malfunction?
If you want to control the spill indoors, just use a mag grid instead of the magbox
Any difference in the output color temperature from one to another or the read out is the same on both. ???? Any one noticed any difference
what happens when the zipper brakes? love the magnets on the old one.
I guess you could say that about any part of any equipment? I have been using them for months now and no issues at all. Personally I much prefer the integrated nature of the new one but it's all personal choice :-)
Does it comes with tripod stand? If not where can I buy one and how is it called, thanks
No, you would have to buy a light stand separately
It's just to small .... light looks harsh in my opinion. Thanks man :) I was thinking about buying, but now I know it's not for me.
No worries!
Can you pl give link of which light stands are those you using outside?
Of course - I use these heavy duty light stands: amzn.to/3eyTXj5
Ill stay with my old kit no biggie maybe update the a few hardware with the old kit due to better and stronger.
I’m waiting for a 32.
It looks like our old magbox focus diffuser not doing its job. :)
Hi Mohanraj, sorry, I am not sure what you mean?
which camera🙄
Why the rolling eyes?
Very overpriced , lots of alternatives are available at 1/4 of the price
