      @michaelelmes2135 corporations wouldn't be doing all this BS if the people spouting the BS weren't always whining about the games not including the BS. This comment is HIGHLY appropriate. They bitch about not being able to self-insert themselves, then end up not even playing the games at all. Meanwhile, a great game has been ruined. Studios are closing and franchises are dying because of it. The right is the only side making any damned sense at this point.

    When I play a RPG I don't want to represent myself. Who the fuck would want to play a 'hero' who has a knackered back, dodgy leg with damaged nerves, aching knees is over weight and couldn't run if you paid him?
    I want to play a hero who can run all day, cast spells, shoot a bow, parkour up vertical cliffs etc.
    If I did have gender dysphoria I'd want to play as the gender I felt I was and not a surgically changed being with surgery scars or any representation of the real me.
    I'd want the escapism not the reminder of real life.

    • @enightc
      @enightc Месяц назад +9

      The problem is that it was profitable, because Gamers years ago bought games just because of brands, they didn't care about if its good or not.
      Every Assassin's creed is bought up immediately because it is EA and Assassin's Creed, no one cared about game play or if it was actually good.
      Every AAA game was selling like hot cake even when it is broken and bad because the journalists eats it up if it checks all of its boxes for its political messaging.
      It is only recently that we realized that we didn't have to buy broken games that we actually deserve better games because of Elden Ring, Baldur's gate 3 , Space marine 2 and many others that actually caters to gamers and not politics.
      So we stop buying games that sucks, and start actually paying attention, this all happened this year.
      I was surprised that concord burned to the ground so quickly, I honestly thought there was gonna be thousands of stupid gamers that would have bought into the hype of a new hero shooter that offers nothing at all just because it is new. I am quite happy there was only 250 gamers that was like that.
      Games takes years to make, so when they are released this year, they were still building off the premise that was 2 years ago where they are not doing anything wrong. Veilguard if it was released 2 years ago before Baldurs Gate 3 would immediately sell 5 million the first week off the Bioware and Dragon age name , that 5 million buyers wouldn't care about the quality of the game or if it fits within the world and lore of Dragon Age. Luckily I believe this changed this year, I believe that 5 million number is going to drop down to less than 2 million
      and that is a win for Gamers in General.

    • @SoulGamesInc
      @SoulGamesInc  Месяц назад +14

      It's gradual, but I'll agree we're seeing improvements, less blind consumer energy and more proper criticism of a system that has been exploiting fans for years; that's why the industry pushes back against games like BG3 being how they are - concern that standards will be raised - because if people start to expect better, they'll be able to get away with less and less shady behaviour. It'll still take a Long time but so long as people hold their ground and demand standards, you'll see more AAA Companies hurt where they care: profit margins :)
      We'll see, there's always Indie games and companies like Larian to hold the torch for now...

      Try and wrap your brain around this..... They had a franchise with a large player base who were begging for another installment of the series. So they say ok, they make the game and it doesn't look, feel, play or follow the story of the previous games. They made a sequel to a game and shunned the people who made it profitable enough to sell for some nebulous "modern audience" which hasn't materialized and doesn't seem to exist. It is astounding to see how many games have come out in the last couple of years that have done this. It's head scratching, basic business is to have and know your customers and cater to them while trying to expand your base. They've decided to shun, ignore, and even insult their customers while selling to people who don't play video games. There is a really interesting book that is going to be written on what these AAA developers did during this time

    Few things to say regarding Dragon Age and Veilguard.
    1, Veilguard, even if it weren't trying to push weird ideology and was just purely on being a fun game, still would NOT work as a DA game because just like Inquisition, it tossed everything the previous lore set up, like the Qunari society structure, out the window because newer DA creators seem to hate and be ashamed of DA for some reason. See Grey Wardens and well, Leliana.
    2. Mass Effect is still so well beloved, even bad ending aside, because unlike with DA having EA's meddling hands in it, was still ultimately a Mass Effect game. So that's why it's beloved. DA has been and seems to always will be the red headed stepchild, due to how you see the quality decline with each game and lore and story decisions seem to be tossed out the window each game.
    3. I too love DA2 and always will maintain and defend it as being better than DAI, due to the fact it is A, a better paced and structured story, where even most of the side quests add on to the main story, where DAI is just fetch quest simulator, bad single player MMO game. And based on how the developers talked about DA2's story, if they were given even just another half a year to develop the game, we would have seen a way more dramatically different and more beloved game.
    4. Anders was a terrible choice for companion, both lore wise and how it ultimately played out. I maintained too that till this day, Justice being a companion and becoming vengeance was a great story, especially since it directly led to the greatest conflict Bioware tossed out like trash, in Mage Vs Templar, but it should have been another character he inhabited. But it's sad instead we got Anders.
    Ultimately though, Veilguard is on track to be Bioware's last game and I say, good riddance. And before anyone say anything, even if Veilguard sold like 5 million copies, due to how long it's been in development hell for, just like with the Tomb Raider reboot, the first game, where Square Enix said 5 millions copies sold was a failure, this too will be a failure unless it sells Battlefield, FIFA numbers. And considering all the design choices, combatitive developers and just bad optics, I just don't see the game selling that many copies. And you know EA isn't in the game to only make a small ROI.

    • @SoulGamesInc
      @SoulGamesInc  Месяц назад +6

      Agreed on all points :) and it'll need to Surpass expectations for EA to be happy here, after a string of repeated failures BioWare hasn't had a win since 2014... that's a Long time to go without releasing a big hit... and I've no faith in their ability to do ME4 justice at this stage unfortunately. As you say, good riddance, I'd rather seem the company fall at this stage than see them continue to fall down - there's always the old titles to go back and enjoy...

They all sound like names they just snagged from a random name generator and decided to go with, putting in zero effort to do anything remotely resembling world building. And the only faction that ties in at all, the Veil Jumpers, is stupid in concept because they've turned the Veil, something that was supposed to be alien and terrifying and a place that nobody should go and was the source of mage's powers but also the plane through which demons could possess them... well now we just have a faction of thrill seekers that apparently just go hopping into the Veil with all the concern of someone hoping in and out of their neighbors yard and thinking they're being cool and edgy.

There was not a minute where something boring happened, it was all story through and through. The dialogue was written so well, it had a very good balance between funny and absolutely horrifying moments (broodmother *shivers*). Also amazing worldbuilding. DA2 was great, too, not as great and emotional as DAO but still great. I also liked that they didn't just copypaste their story but tried sth new with Hawke. I loved how we played through his life, helping him work himself from bottom to the top. You were invested because you could see how things changed throughout the years (tension between mages and templars rising, the Quonari arriving in Kirkwall and Hawkes mom being killed by a psychopathic serial killer). I just miss the awesome writing :( I felt sooo let down by DAI, some parts were cool (like the ball at the Winter Palace) but I really disliked most of the companions (especially Sera, Cole, Solas, Bull and Blackwall, Bull and Blackwall were just acting like perverted creeps towards my Quonari and Solas was a racist bitch lol which at least was kinda interesting).

    Thank you. I've been looking for a video like this. I keep seeing all this rage against wokeness which is such a cop out of actual criticism. Dragon Age has always been woke af, but this just seems like a shit game.

    The best way I can describe Veilguard's artstyle is "2004 Fable but worse". There is actually something good underneath that mess but the proportions look so weird, especially the big bobble heads. I actually like the models for the hairstyles, though. It's really sad because I love the series and I want this game to succeed, but almost all early reviews from dedicated fans are trashing it really hard.

    To this day i still think that the blood magic vs child life choice is the best choice in videogame history due to the sheer fact that it absolutely nails down what kind of world it was. Shame bioware became biowere, it loved dragon age so much and i really though inquisition was a step on the right direction even with it many flaws you can see that they learned by the time they released trespasser and the descent felt like they knew how they would finish the story with a bang. But veilguard is just a wet fart instead. Would be great as a spinoff, but not as a mainline.

      I only half agree. I would've removed the copout "let's gather some mages to send someone into the Fade" option. For example, by making a child an abomination while you're traveling to get the mages.
      So you're either kill someone to save a child, murder a child or you waffle, go to the mages and then you're still murdering a child because it's too late.

    • @vanyadolly
      @vanyadolly Месяц назад

      The only downside with it is that you can meta your way out of it once you know the outcome. But I really don't get how people can say DAI is just as dark as the first two games. Where's the child murder?

    You know, I had never put it in perspective how I wish Inquisition had a darker tone to it, but your parallels with Origins do make me think about it now. I guess Inquisition is so successful in its own premises that I hadn't notice the lack of grit in its story. I think it also helps that decisions have consequences in Inquisition. Very interesting video, mate.

    What DA2 truly was good at is Qunari design. They really looked like aliens to the Thedas, so hatred and misunderstanding was well put in. In DAI they became somewhat less alienating. And here we’ve got some abomination of KSI with horns

    As of today I still haven’t completed Inquisition, for multiple reasons. For one, I like to do every possible thing in a game, which includes all side quests and everything. Inquisition felt like it had too much bloat, as well as not enough depth at the same time. There were too many side quests and that stupid table of war where you have to wait real life time to complete, for some small rewards and some flavour text and minor impact. The jam packed so much into the hinterlands and little in everything else that all the maps just felt too open with little in between.
    I think Dragon Benefited from the somewhat linear maps and limited open world, as Origins had an open world (sort of) but Inquisition just had too much map without direction to hum the story along

      @@SoulGamesInc They have even got worse just in the past few years. They already removed the Mass Effect Miranda butt shots, and toned down the sx scenes. Thanks to mods, all that was restored, and more. I believe, with a woke Dragon Age Origins remaster, modders will come to the rescue again. Unless they are so woke as to prevent mods. MELE wouldn't launch directly modded, you have to launch from ME3Tweaks mod manager. They might even prevent that.

    As a longtime fan of Dragon Age, not just Origins but the entire series and BioWare games, I'll leave my opinion here.
    1) Inquisition sold the best of the entire series and it even dominated on consoles (PC was only 10% of the first million units sold), so it makes sense to continue in a similar style and just get rid of the open world, that was the most frequent criticism of DAI and the tactical mod was the least used feature, so it also makes sense as a precursor to an action RPG.
    2) The Tevinter Nights short story anthology by the same creative team has great stories, it's mature, horror, dark and gives me a lot of hope for the story and I'm very curious.
    For me personally, the only thing that deserves criticism so far is the discarding of DA Keep and only taking back three choices, and maybe the art style may not suit everyone. The rest can only be judged when I play it. So I'm definitely buying DATV because as a fan I want to see where the story will go.
