I wonder... Ever since the other DA games followed Origins, the DA fan base became divided between those who loved the original vision of Dragon Age in Origins and found the subsequent games lacking versus those who preferred the franchise as re-envisioned in Inquisition. I wonder if Veilguard was designed specifically to enrage all the Origins diehards?
Ya know. You are correct. In fact, I had my grandson reinstall DA 1 and he modded it to hell. Ah yes, Morrigan! In "adult" form. oh, and The Emperor Protects.
@@folgore1yea luckily for me I’ve always thought dragon age was just a worse Baldurs Gate so I’ve never been to emotionally attached to it. You’re correct tho of its crazy seeing each Dragon Age come out over the years and watching their fan base go to war.
I've read the letter tge inquisitior says that the south is under seige not annihilated and that they are holding the line it's like world war 2 after this they'll need some serious rebuilding
If we left him alone none of this would've happened, is the funny thing, just would've had to deal with some demon trouble; that would've paled in comparison to the Super Blight - Rook made everything Worse
@@SoulGamesInc The funny thing is that if they wanted a more light-hearted story, the relatively smaller threat of the veil coming down would have worked. But then you would have to deal with challenging ethical questions about whether or not Solas was right, as well having to further develop and centralize some of the most unique (and complex--for people with a two digit IQ) aspects of Dragon Age's lore, which was the spirits/demons. Nope, would rather just have cartoon villains to impotently chase the entire game until the plot finally lets you do something about them, while taking the time to frolic with your friends along the way.
I played about 18hrs and uninstalled (first time I've ever done that) The infantile writing was too much - example - I turn up in Antiva, within 5 seconds a chick walks up to me and goes "Heyyy it's YOU, wanna meet the Crows inner circle?" The leader of the Crows immediately opens up about her deepest secret to ME - 5 seconds after meeting me The next day the leader is killed / captured and none... NOT ONE of the frigging scheming professional assassins accuses me, the person who coincidentally showed up the day before as maybe being responsible!! It's like that all the way through - and the first people you meet in every situation are the ones you instantly side with for the duration of their storyline, regardless of who turns up with possible alternatives "Nah get lost, maybe if I'd met you first - but how can I take you seriously when I've already spoken to these other loses" I didn't think it was possible for a computer game to be a moron.
Yeah the Writing is some of the worse I've had the misfortune to experience in any video game, its outright Insulting to the players intelligence at the best of times; pretty much requiring you to shut off your brain and not Think about any of it in order to not realise how bad it is :) anyone that actually stops to Question any of the storylines will find a thousand cracks - it's literally relying on its audience not paying attention lol No choices matter, you have none, all your "options" lead down the same path :D
@@SoulGamesInc Exactly 100% correct! Oh and did you notice early on in the game, once you get to the lighthouse, a sentence is casually uttered that completely deletes the Andrastrian faith? So that, along with the other driving forces of the narrative / setting of Thedas are all ignored... ugh
Yeah its an attempt to reboot the franchise and delete everything "Modern BioWare" hates, it's no coincidence that only Ferelden is utterly destroyed AND everyone in Ferelden is going to starve lol
Here's what really bugs me about DA:V and I think its telling of the poor world-building.... Where is all of the racism? Seriously, Thedas in Origins was made very clear as being a hyper-racist group of societies. It was flawed and dark. It made for good storytelling when you played as an alienage elf and saved people who treated you like trash. Or when you were a mage and everyone treated you as a demonic time-bomb. Not once did someone in Veilguard call my elf "knife-ears", or even imply that we were second class. And why aren't the Dalish crazy xenophobes anymore? We are in Tervineter, like the most elitist, slavery having place in their world, and you feel none of it.
Taash, Harding and Emmerich interested me when I first saw them then they showed how they're personality was and I just tought huh All the companions are as unlikable as Sera except she has personality
Same - there wasn't one who I'd trust to watch my back. Not one hardcase or dutiful one amongst them - When you think of the likes of Wrex, Garrus, Sten, Aveline, Blackwall, Bull... :(
I liked lucanis and was excited to learn more about the crows...which we didn't get much of. Neve was okay. Bellara no. Taash hell no. Emmrich so feminine and no. Davrin should've just been a human. And having him lecture me about wardens when my character was a warden was extremely annoying. Harding ruined. Solas character became ugh.
@theesper7404 Haha I wanted to kill Bellara immediately! think I'd have much preferred Lucanis if he was just a straight up assassin, without any gimmicks!
Hang on, how can the Archdemons be simple Dragons when Dragons cannot be infected with the Blight? There’s a whole quest line about it in DAI. EDIT. They’ve destroyed absolutely all established lore and made up their own. Lame.
Yep, destroyed nearly all established lore and all previous choices to establish their own and pretty much try to reboot the IP into whatever twisted nonsense they think is better lol
The whole idea of Varric being dead the whole time can't fucking work. The minute you wake up, either Neve or Harding would have literally said it even before you say anything else. Logically there is just no way your character won't realise very early on after waking up that varric was dead. Harding and Neve accompany you to the ritual site and none of them even mention something like "This is where that bastard killed Varric" or maybe "we have to find the thing that killed varric". It's just not possible not unless solar makes everyone see the hallucination
It's a terrible concept in general, as you say it pretty much relies on nobody EVER mentioning the fact that Varic is dead - I thought "maybe Solas showed everyone it" but Nope, it was only You, this is simply the result of a writer who wanted to trick the player and thought this was a genius way to do it lol If I HAD to write it myself, it would need to be the case that Varic only showed up to Rook away from the others (risking being talked over, or even Walked Through, would be too risky) and/or actively using blood magic to wipe Rooks memory of anyone mentioning Varic being dead... and at this stage its just fucking massively convoluted... sums up nicely Who the writers at BioWare are however :) they didn't stop for a second and go "wait this is dumb" :D
Fr you could maybe say that he was a spirit that lives in the lighthouse that took the form of varric in that moment, a la Cole in inquisition assuming the form of real Cole, I just had to ignore the whole time the weird dialogue that happened in DATV
It's oddly fitting; the last familiar friendly face of Dragon Age is symbolically killed before the story even starts. It's like someone was trying to illustrate their experience working on the game through the narrative.
They did say it out loud several times. It is probably the awful writing that makes people not listen to what companions speak about. One instance of that being Bellara talking to either Harding, or Neve, mentioning Varric was mortally wounded while trying to stop Solas. Which made me think "Wtf do you mean? He broke his leg, chill." So there was foreshadowing. Problem is, companions talk so much nonsense, i was literally considering turning volume off. I take it people just don't listen to what they're saying, so it doesn't work as intended.
@@blackhat9062 probably the money I make and the fact I'm on the Dragon Age Total War mod team having created a whole map of Thedas; it's rather impossible to "forget" something I've worked on for like 5yrs exists lol but also money 😉
Undoes everything ever done in any Dragon Age story. WTF. WOW. It's worse than bad. That makes those games wastes of time, and crearing a game that ruins other games is just dumb? Iiiiiickkkkkk
@SoulGamesInc so sorry you went through that. I'm gonna go cry a little and drink a shot of something in your honor for keeping me from experiencing that, because I might have broken my system. To destroy that story with a "whelp it was all gonna happen anyway, suck it." Wow.
@eastbow6053 basically ,the South got overrun by the darkspawn and Ferelden took the hardest hit. Denerim fell and Radcliffe barely holds on . The Inquisitor says so to Rook
"We have watched and waited for the darkspawn to return. But those, who once called us heroes, have forgotten. We are few now, and our warnings have been ignored for too long. It may even be too late, for I have seen with my own eyes what lies upon the horizon. Maker help us all". -Duncan "Nobody likes being a woman" -Taash What in the holy hell happened to writing, nuiance, and character depth in the last 10 years ? 😢 I am so glad I didn't purchase this trash fire. I did replay DA:O, though.
I really don't wanna post this because of how RUclips comments tend to react to anyone even remotely defending representation. That said, "Nobody likes being a *gender here*" is actually a very common belief amongst those that later find out they're trans, whether fully transitioning or Non-binary. So that sentence alone is actually a very real dialogue some people have/had in their journeys of self-discovery. NOW THAT SAID HERES THE BUT The game is full of absolute garbage writing, it plagues the entirety of the game. Taash is an incredibly poor character, both from a writing perspective AND a representation perspective. Now can we stop the lazy "hurr durr woke" and "urghh representation" as excuses to why the game is bad? Dragon Age as been full of representation previously, but this time around the writing is just so bad that it's incredibly lazy to say representation is the fault. There's plenty of valid critique of this game to not have to pick the lazy bigotry picks.
@@mikkeluno I avoid the "reee its woke" argument, however valid a cause and effect argument might be in most cases; the way certain people within BioWare think and act isn't great for the creative process - that said instead I focus on the results - take my rant at the start, 100% unscripted, doesn't mention Woke at all because that's not why I hate this game lol You can do representation in a story, hell I'd even agree with your assessment that "nobody likes being X" could well be a legitimate phrase someone struggling with their own issues might say to deflect and normalize their feelings and/or push them away; the human brain is beyond complicated BUT there's a good and a bad way to write these topics. The issue is these writers aren't writing Good Characters, they're first priority is forcing a Message onto the reader to shove a Lesson down their throats; that results in characters who exist Not to be a good quality well rounded person, but to be a sign held up and waved around. It's no surprise that, when you're creating a story, if you focus on what's between a characters legs instead of what Makes that character a real, interesting, complicated, believable character... you get a bad character... I don't like the term Woke. I think it describes Hateful people more than it describes Equality, wearing a mask of righteousness doesn't cover up ones Actions. Basic human decency doesn't require a flag to wave around demanding that everyone see how Good you are Or Else. Good Writing speaks from the Heart. Veilguard has no Heart.
20:15 Judging from the developer notes within the game, someone doesn't hate women but only REALLY hate beautiful women, like they feel insecure of them that they should be excluded.
Yeah pretty much usually the case 😅 9 times outa 10 the women behaving that way are coincidentally not very fortunate looking - jealousy can be very ugly
I tried not to rant too much ha by the end I'd gotten genuinely angry at the game though, writing is dreadful and outright insulting, not only ignoring your past choices but actively Erasing them entirely - its just an insult to the fans - BioWare isn't the place to look for good RPGs anymore
@SoulGamesInc appreciate the reply! It truly is sad, and your intro with Duncan was perfect. Ive been replaying DA:O, and the reactivity to player class, gender, background, and dialog choices is top-tier. Id forgotten just how well its done; every dialog option with the unique responses even if all thats been affected is which way the NPC responds. I hope Exodus is good...
@@Bignuke87 I try to reply to everyone when I've time :) I've replayed Origins too lately, might do it again; but planning to replay DA2 and Inquisition for videos too first. Exodus, yeah, that's pretty much our best hope for a good Mass Effect-like title at this stage...
My new canon is the Inquisitor after beating the base game of Inquisition slipped on a rock and gave themselves a concussion induced fever dream and imagined everything after.
So the current team gets fired, they hire actual Devs for the Franshise, and Dragon Age 5 continues where Inquisition ended; Failguard being canonically only a nightmare?
@@VenusFeuerFalle Nah, i'd prefer dragon age ending on a relatively happy note, trespasser only existed as sequel bait. also wasnt cool with them maiming and sidelining the inquisitor in it which really should've been a warning sign.
Makes me sad to see the death of dragon age, a series I loved growing up. I just want to see the end of the story and see my playthrough choices come together finally.
Pretty much yes, it's not an RPG and is certainly not a Dragon Age game at all - if it wasn't Pretending to be either then I wouldn't hate it quite so much; but it calls itself Dragon Age while spitting on the established lore lol
@@SoulGamesIncAs you said in the vid... This is just a slap in the face to past DA fans. After watching about 3 hours of gameplay on various channels in abject horror, I've accepted I just have to write off DA at this point.
It's time to move on I say, the IP is blighted; no saving it - best to look elsewhere for good games from better companies :) the people who made BioWare good have long since departed the studio
I don't understand why they hate us so much... All we wanted was a continuation of the Dragon Age games and they write this to crush all of the old games that so many people treasured, how can you be so spiteful? What did the fans of DAO and DA2 DAI do to deserve this?
We remember better quality games and they're not talented enough to meet that expectation- isn't even a goal of theirs 😅 BioWare only hires people that agree with uts political leaning for Makers sake lol their 1st priority is "the message" nowadays and here We are asking for Quality 😂 They don't like that priority
"me, personaly --- I wanted all my companions to die!" lmaoo. this would be kind of a unique take in any other part of the series, but with veilguard? I absolutely get where are you coming from, no further questions. about the combat. I was so far gone, when I realized my companions cannot die at all. Even Rook died only like two times for me - both times to that one horribly balanced demon boss in Treviso, that randomly pops out of the red blob of "blight." I think it was fine for the first hours, but it gets soooooo repetitive with so few risks the further you go imo. Also, the enemies started to irritate me, because they always pursue Rook specifically, no matter where on the map you run off too --- I tried just to make sure at some point. All in all, I just think it's quite a mediocre system. and don't even get me started on the stupid use of conditions, because undead enemies are literally weak to a necrosis damage. Like, whyyyy? :D I'll tell you why, because the developers on this game clearly wanted to make each different type of enemy weak to different damage types - just for the hell of it, I would say. Extremely insecure, pointless, and weak execution. and believe it or not --- I wanted to make a woman, and a feminine looking one at that. however I couldn't get rid of the six of-clock shadow on my manly manly jaw for the whole time I was playing, to the point I started to think I was hallucinating. But apparently it was just Varric I was hallucinating about. Maybe just mercy kill me at this point, actually. anyway, Loghain Illuminati confirmed, what a dope idea. So happy I could crawl in a corner to die now. An absolute insult, this game. Agree with everything you said and was entertained along the way, thank you! congrats on managing to kill anyone btw, truly an accomplishment for this game :D
My one solace in all this is that the Veilguard is dead and they can't hurt anyone anymore :) I do the Makers work; if Veilguard hadn't pretty much written the Maker out of existence that is... but yes, worst game of the year and an outright insult to fans of the original games :(
@@SoulGamesInc When I consider Loghain's distrust in Orlais makes sense rather than being manipulated by a shadow organization. I think that part is also another self-insert. That shadow organization was the people who made the decision for those games. They are the root cause of why this game fails in sales.
Well, maybe whoever gets this IP later just would say that Veilguard is the "images" that demons tortured templar with during that Origins quest in Kinloch Hold. Can't see any way of fixing it other than throwing away in a trash. Didn't know game could actually hurt me a little. But at least Veilguard did a good job at promoting Exodus.
The only way I see forward (aside from just pretending it didn't happen) is a game where the Hero of Ferelden returns from the West and has to clean up everyone's mess... but I don't remotely trust BioWare to touch any of the old characters, even if they Would, they Won't because that would be admitting fault. They'll never admit fault. but Yes :D Exodus, to hell with BioWare its a lost cause lol
there is an end credits scene that hints at what the next game is (if there is a next game), next game is probably the void or chaos entities or something like that...
Ngl it feels like the team that made this never played the other DA games and just skimmed the wiki. Forgot that it was supposed to be a dark fantasy game. Especially the "fantasy" part.
@SoulGamesInc At that point I rather not have another DA game if this is how they'll treat the lore as a whole. I'll just stick to BG3. At least they know how to fuggin write a damn narrative!
@@SoulGamesInc the OG team that worked from Origin till Inquisition has been either fired ( see Varric's writer) or have left for various reasons. There's no longer any barriesr standing to EA idiocy, because ya'll still forget: Bioware is OWNED by EA wich is the one calling the shots. You can actually see the trajectory from Origin ( solely Bioware), DA2 ( transition when bioware was bought by EA) Inquisition ( EA, already shit enough MMO-like ) and now Veilguard. EA is sanitising everything.
They took the option of being evil, or any general roleplay mechanics, out of the game so that you couldn't be mean to a certain character. It's very obvious. And they were willing to ruin dragonage's legacy as a RPG over it.
The saddest part about the job the "activists" are doin in Bioware is that Bioware was always progressive/modern. They didn't need to turn the dialogue into a f*cking ted talk to achieve that. Sexuality was open in Thedas since day 1. Adult and mature themes were being discussed in Da games since origins. Now it all seems like a sunday morning cartoon. Also, the cringiest thing to my brain rn is trying to figure out where the Medieval/magic fantasy people of DA learned the word "Non-Binary".
Yeah, but it's no longer about actual being "accepting" or "a decent human being" like it used to be once upon a time, now it's hate masquerading as virtue - the "Modern" writers at BioWare want you to get down on the ground and do pushups if you don't follow orders 🤣 their entire identity is how everyone Must accept and obey or else, small wonder they can't write compelling characters lol
I've never played such "On-Rails" RPG in my life before. This game is the polar opposite of BG3 and DA Origins. Hell, even "the worst game in the series", DA2, had more options for roleplaying and making your character unique. BioWare learned absolutely nothing from Andromeda.
Haha, yeah it's kinda like the StarWars prequals - everyone hated them at release now its "they're not that bad" in light of Disney lowering the bar lmao gives fresh perspective. In 20yrs BioWare will release DA5 and it'll be SO TERRIBLE it somehow makes Veilguard looks alright in comparison lol
>I've never played such "On-Rails" RPG in my life before Final Fantasy 13. It looked pretty, though, including the characters. And most of the characters were likeable.
Wow. Wow. This shitshow really is the kick in the quads that just keeps giving isn't it? They weren't content to Disney wash the game, retcon ALL the most important lore, ignore all the most important choices, and then turn the game into a shitty shallow preachy ghost of its former self. It wasn't even enough that they did a hard reset in the post credit scene of the "suuuuper seeeeeecrit ending", they had to bake it into the lore entries as well, JUST in case we missed everything else they did to this beloved franchise. I'm so FUCKING angry right now. They couldn't even let us pretend this farce of a game never existed, because the lore for the South will be all over their media and future books. Fuck "modern" BioWare and everything it stands for.
Another "deliberately designed and written to piss off fans so the writers can brag to their writer friends how they overcame so much hate by toxic fans and sit around patting each other on the back" type product. Its not a game. Its bait.
I wrote that before: I watched a woman stream in tears, coz she could not believe that she paid to witness her beloved Dragon Age undone! `No trick, she was really in shock!´
Could we like…collectively sue Bioware for emotional/monetary damages? Ruining established characters, treating their fans like children, and basically ruining the story with cheap opt outs.
It's an echo chamber. They only listen if you already agree with with what they did, else you're ignored or silenced. They want approval, not genuine feedback. And they hire people not on professional merit, but ideology and political beliefs.
The individuals who would have argued with these bizarre decisions have quit I believe. I have a relative who worked for the studio years back and he says all the old employees are gone.
It's a concentrated effort to cause social backlash against the people the higher ups don't like. TPB are forcing fake "dei" and "representation" in order to cause those that are being falsely represented will feel the backlash.
Pretty much. Had EA not cancelled the 1st version of Dreadwolf for their mmo version, there might have been enough talent left at Bioware to make a half decent game.
@@Anwell100 Inquisition was already a MMO like and it was hot garbage. The story was good only if one read it in the wikis, but not played the giant empty boring world. EA wanted to push the live service thing, so be grateful atht at least that shite didn't happen.
While playing this game i felt like Dorian at the inquisitions tavern drinking Dawfren ale "it cant get that bad can it and then soon enough i was expolring the flavors and its effect on my nausea"
Veilguard was written by children for children, has nothing to do with Dragon Age at all, it's pure garbage, the worrying thing is that the idiots that gave us this have moved over to Mass Effect so they can destroy another much loved IP
It’s wild how talentless people somehow get put in charge of massive, multi-million dollar projects, while indie devs are out here making amazing games with a shoestring budget. Whoever keeps hiring these folks seriously needs to get the boot.
At this stage, you can't Get hired into BioWare if you don't share their political views; there's been a handful of people come forth and share how their experience went in interviews for positions - they've created a echo-chamber
I've said it far too many times before, but I *will* say it again. Somehow me, the guy who played Origins first and practically grew up playing these games, even the alright Inquisition, absolutely loving the old era of Bioware games, is labeled the fucking *tourist* when I deny this steaming pile of shit on a plate known as the juvenile "the Veilguard" as a Dragon Age game. Real funny how someone comes to that conclusion, yeah? Either way, don't mind me. I'm just gonna create a new world state in Origins so that I can pretend this crap doesn't exist.
Isn't new, these are the same people that use words like Incel, Bigot, Nazi to dehumanise anyone who criticises them - don't have to listen if the person you don't like is less than human :) ironically the people acting this way are more akin to the buzzwords they use than anyone else lol
With how things continue, in Dragon Age 5 we'll probably see Darkspawn families and babies, and they want to show us that darkspawn don't want to wage war but they have to. Because the modern day activist writers want us to empathize with the Darkspawn. (they already did that with the Tolkien's orcs you know, in RoP Season 2....jeez...) Oh well, I wasn't going to buy this anyway based on that very 1st trailer they gave is earlier this year. Few months later the devs mentioned them not being happy how the marketing team portrayed the game with that first reveal trailer. But despite that the game turned out exactly how I imagined it to be based on that first trailer, so RIP Dragon Age.
Yeah, didn't we see how darkspawn reproduce, in Dragon Age Origins. If they somehow decide to deconstruct "that", then the devs deserve to be destitute.
"With how things continue, in Dragon Age 5 we'll probably see Darkspawn families and babies, and they want to show us that darkspawn don't want to wage war but they have to." Did you even play Origins? Darkspawn _do_ have children, via Broodmothers. _And_ , via the Architect in Awakening, it was established that Darkspawn wage war not because they want to but because they have to.
@FurbleBurble that's a leap, they're hardly "children" in the human sense, the "Mother" was utterly insane and consumed by madness without the Song - the Darkspawn are not unwilling, they go mad without the drive to seek the archdemon, while Some may be freed of this Most go utterly insane in its absence or Die from there mere attempt at being freed of it by drinking Grey Warden blood. They do not have families, they capture women and mutate them to spawn more Darkspawn; clues in the name - also lore that BioWare has long abandoned. So no the Darkspawn aren't "misunderstood" that's a ridiculous notion - the fact that 0 1% might be given Free Will and might choose to Not kill isn't much use to the other 99% lol + all the Grey Wardens are now dead and/or will die out by Veilguard lore - there's no use for them anymore - no Archdemon, no Blight, no Song; what Darkspawn remain will simply go utterly insane without the distraction of the song or at best wander aimlessly attacking anything they see.
My expectations for this game were so low they were basically sinking in lava with Caradin all the way down in the depths of the Deep roads and yet i'm still disappointed.
Frankly, me too, put the blighted mess out of its misery at this stage; they'll destroy Mass Effect next... again... but at least Exodus looks promising, is time to look elsewhere for good RPGs...
just WHY did they do that to Varric? He was top tier character, one of the best they ever made! And to do that so stupidly? He is a rogue, not freaking warrior that could snatch the knife from Solas'es hand. But nontheless, can we apriciate the hair in this game? Probs the only thing they did right
Ah Duncan back in DAOrigins.I remember going through my 2nd playthrough as an elf and I would pick the Rudest antihuman dialogue with him and he was so patient with me.
Same here. My female city elf was so hostile towards humans. Warmed up to Duncan and Alistair aince they were so cool to her. She eventually decided to rise to the challenge of saving everyone--human, elf, dwarf, and Qunari alike.
@@Hodgepodge_Of_Interests and given what the City Elf origins went through; both male and female, it makes total sense to be wary or even hateful of human. Just the Alienage stuff has that make sense.
I know it isn't much to offset the horrible experience that this game gave you, but I wanted to give you something as thanks for sparing me from suffering, too. This game can stay non-canon as far as I'm concerned. I'm going to go and try the mods for Mass Effect released for N7 Day instead.
Hopefully, the next game recons all this as a possible future that the Dreadwolf showed the inquisitor in the fade, and then we go back to being the inquisitor and get the real story 😅
@@Apt23-v8u the next mass effect is it's last chance to make a profitable game though dragon age 4 was supposed to be a chance to redeem themselves but they fired all the talent and replaced them with youtubers who were put in charge of the lore and this is what we got
I laughed so goddamned hard at 15:10. Off topic, I know, but the way that line was delivered. "Morrigan, do not sacrifice yourself for that b*tch!" My god man, I'm in actual tears here! LOL
I at several points said aloud "why are we fighting Solas? We fucked up his ritual once and made everything worse! His plan isn't even that bad!" but they don't let Rook do any of that because Rook knows best and because we're not supposed to agree that, while his plan may kill many, in the longterm its better than the Super Blight we unleash by fucking up his plans lmao
This game is such a betrayal of the series, even considering that there's never been another as good as Origins. The wardens are turning in their graves. Also, what's with the misogyny and removal of actual female representation? First of all, I don't hate being a woman, so idk who wrote that line. Aside from that, if there's a character creator with advanced customization, I should be able to make a character that looks like me if I choose to, since that seems to be their intent. But they've removed larger cup sizes and made all the female models muscular/masculine, which leaves those of us who are petite and busty without representation 😂 If they want a specific look for the player avatar, then just make a sprite for male or female and call it a day. Don't pretend you're giving gamers representation.
No, I don't accept this. Veilguard is not Dragon age, therefore, DA lore still stands. This is a fanfic that somehow has a millions budget, nothing more. Or it's just a DA:O Warden's nightmare when he/she is sleeping in a tent after doing a Deep Roads sequence or smth. Warden will wake up, Failhard will be forgotten and everything will be OK
Yeah, ever since Inquisition came out the next Dragon Age game was under question and the results are now in: there is no Dragon Age 4. Sad, but after Andromeda I was morally ready. May be one day...
@@SoulGamesInc @robertagren9360 at the risk of sounding lame, I actually like the world of DA more than anything. That's why Inquisition's vastness never bothered me: every minute there was spent immersed in THE WORLD, living the lore. Nothing but Dragon Age titles can replace it, and Veilguard is the direct opposite of it :'D
Honestly they made a new genre. I have never before wanted SO BADLY to lose in a game. I wanted us to fail. I was hoping at every moment that all of my team gets wiped. Starting with Trash.
5:40 I didn't get this far in the game (nearly died of cringe and refunded), so here's a question: Why the hell would "Rook" keep opposing Solas tearing down the Veil if all of Thedas is basically gone? The whole point of contention was that removing the Veil would release alot of demons into the wild and kill a shitton of people - so the ends (the elves regaining their magic etc) didn't justify the means. But most of the continent is basically a nuclear wasteland now. What is there to loose? Even if Arlathan drops back onto Thedas from the sky - there is barely anyone alive to notice. Wouldn't it be better to give the surviving elves more power to rebuild? Yeah, need to kill the "bad guys" first, but what's the issue afterwards? (Answering these questions requires some basic form of intelligence which the writers clearly didn't have, so nevermind.) "Pray that I succeed, for I have seen the throne of gods and it was empty" - Poor Corypheus, he tried to warn us and we killed him. He did nothing wrong. Bottom Line: Rook made everything 100 times worse. Should have left Solas alone. He was right all along.
You're never given an option to do anything but agree with Rooks narrative, aka everyone else is wrong :) nobody else can be right, or the hero, only You because Rook is always right about everything.
@@SoulGamesInc I am starting to think that the "Varik is dead" thing was a last minute addition to the script after some janitor (because the writers aren't that smart) read the script and said "Wow this Rook guy surely is an asshole". So they had Solas do something villan-y like kill a fan-favofite. Cause otherwise the optics are even more abbismal: "A hired mercenary interrupts a ritual he knows nothing about and starts an Apocalyptic event that wipes out 90% of the population. Then binds the guy who helped him to the Fade against his will and dooms the Elven people while maintaining a weirdly cheery disposition." 🫠 You are the hero of the people for finishing it for us. As a woman, hearing that "nobody likes being a woman" from Trash while being forced to play an ugly AF cartoon character - whom I also want dead like yesterday, together with the companions - was the nail in the coffin for me.

9:23 It is true. I came there as necromancer from Nevarra and he arrested me. AND respect for reaching the end. I didn't. I couldn't. Not after seeing Dorian.
This is the best review I've seen. Thank you very much for making this The pain is real. The secret ending is what got me the most. The betrayal at Ostagar was such an amazing plotline: from the first foreshadowing of it, through discovering everything that led to it, and to deciding Logain's fate - it was captivating, well thought out, emotional, and heavy. Except that now it isn't. Logain, his history with king Meric and the war against Orlesians didn't matter. Any other commander could stand there instead of him, and it would all end the same. Because everything was determined by shadow society. Logain didn't matter, Alistair didn't matter, The Warden didn't matter, as well as Duncan or any of the wardens. Great job, failguard
The Acolyte of computer games. Dull, poorly written, superficial, incongruous with previous works in the series? A game on rails? And a reboot? Except that as a game it would cost me the equivalent of almost 4 months worth of Disney's streaming service. Too much for too little even if it were a better game.
The best thing I can say about Veilguard is that it has made me realised I've treated Inquisition too harshly. Also, you're probably sick of reading this constantly so I apologise in advance, but your ranting made my chest tighten a bit because of how perfectly you sound like TB when he goes off.

Honestly the moments I saw the darkspawn I knew I wasn't gonna play the game since I didn't want to play a game where seeing the darkspawn made me want to laugh. I don't regret that decision
You know what’s crazy to me? The world has basically suffered its third blight in under 50 years and people still have the time to worry more about pronouns than the Darkspawn 😂
Gotta be honest, the varric death was extremely called out to the point the writer is either dumb or so arrogant to think the average player is that dumb.
4:13 wtf?!!!!! Excuse me! The wardens would never ever leave the world to deal with the blight & hide in Weisshaupt. My warden-queen & alistair would keep the order in ferelden & probably fight on the front again. Not always a negative thing at all no, certainly there's good games for that "sit down an hour or two, simple fun" experiences; but an RPG is rarely that - this simply isn't an RPG and certainly isn't Dragon Age

While that sounds nice in your brain, on Paper you'd have BioWare ruin everything :D they're already on record calling Origins "Too Dark" and "Problematic" even if they wanted to also they kinda Can't because nobody who worked on Origins or 2 works at BioWare anymore and they've no clue how to work the original engine :)
Well, my recommendation with this game is that you go instead play BG3 or Dragon's Dogma 2 or Wukong or Elden Ring or Banishers or Diablo OR LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE.
I knew it was going to be bad when it was revealed that only a handful of choices were going to be available in DAV. And now all the developers that worked on DAV are moving over to ME5. For the love of god EA, do what you do best and put BioWare out of its misery.
After Dragon Age Inquisition. I couldn't wait for a new dragon age, just like I couldn't wait for a new star wars trilogy and we see how that turned out too.
I pirated this shit. I needed to see if it was really that bad. After 2 missions, I realized this ain't Dragon Age and installed Origins. Am having a blast as mage.
@@SoulGamesInc I keep alot of folks going back to origins but them graphics are hard to deal with now for me. Why is no one going back to Inquisition? I was thinking of doing that but I keep seeing Origins.
@@Darth0308 i believe, for me mostly, its because Origins is the best when it comes to the over all world building and story. its the Story of you the hero of Ferelden, and allows you to be ruthless in the idea of "The means justify the ends" or by being a actual story book hero. Plus you have all the political stuff, and morally grey characters. Inquisition was okay but it honestly just felt more like a action combat game then a RPG for me.
@Darth0308 Origins has the best Story out of them all is generally why, tho it Is dated in its looks; you Can always improve that via mods :) DA2 / DAI get less hype by the older fans because they started with Origins and compare it to the later titles, then it falls short in terms of the storytelling etc
You remember Duncan saying "Maker... help us?" Well, he can't, because the lore needed obviously to state clearly nothing related to the guy is real so he must not exist at all. Seems like 95% of the conclicts of the universe doesn't exist anymore too. Oh, no, sorry, they are in the fucking codex. The devs can pretend that way they respected the lore.
I became a fan of BioWare when the original Baldur's Gate 1 was released, and replayed it (and the sequel) probably close to a hundred times. And then started modding them just so I could play them again with new stuff. I say this to explain that I felt Dragon Age: Origins was a significant *downgrade* in many areas. It was still a good game, and I enjoyed the dark fantasy theme, but in lots of ways it felt like a simplification to appeal to a wider audience. Veilguard is not the same thing. It is not a simplification to get a wider audience. What they have done is completely eviscerate the soul of the franchise. It is a ghoulish fraud wearing the skin of Dragon Age like a macabre mask. Which might be enjoyable in its own way if it was done competently, but everything about the game just seems *bad*.
In the 1st mission :) then Solas puppets his corpse and "tricks" you to think he's alive until the ending, that was possible because nobody ever mentions him being dead and they're polite enough to ever talk over the dead man nobody else can hear talking lol
@@SoulGamesInc dude, your example of what you would do with people talking over Varric subtlety and then someone telling you he's dead when you speak out about it, gave me chills. These people suck so bad.
@Darth0308 Just off the top of my head :) I may do a "Can I Fix Veilguard with Good Writing" video at some stage, go over all the story points I'd do better; all the choices I'd add and the areas I'd change to make the game flow better... we'll see... that'll be a big video to do well ha
I was on the fence about buying this game until I learned that they'd only import three choices from the previous games (and all three come from Inquisition). After that, I realised this game wasn't for me. I enjoy Inquisition, but DA:O is one of my all-time favourite games and I also really enjoy DA2 despite it's flaws. Seeing the reviews and the gameplay footage - and especially the writing - only reinforced my decision and made me realise I made the right choice. I thought I would be more mad, but honestly, I just don't care anymore. I think games like Baldur's Gate 3 and Sparking Zero, Space Marines 2 and Black Myth: Wukong scratched my itch that I didn't need DA4.

I have been saying since 10 years ago: Solas was right.
If we left him alone none of this would've happened, is the funny thing, just would've had to deal with some demon trouble; that would've paled in comparison to the Super Blight - Rook made everything Worse
Nah it Will happens with or without him, it was a matter of time
I mean I already wrote it off when it was announced as Dreadwolf and also began as a live service game. It only got worse.
I played about 18hrs and uninstalled (first time I've ever done that)
The infantile writing was too much - example - I turn up in Antiva, within 5 seconds a chick walks up to me and goes "Heyyy it's YOU, wanna meet the Crows inner circle?"
The leader of the Crows immediately opens up about her deepest secret to ME - 5 seconds after meeting me
The next day the leader is killed / captured and none... NOT ONE of the frigging scheming professional assassins accuses me, the person who coincidentally showed up the day before as maybe being responsible!!
It's like that all the way through - and the first people you meet in every situation are the ones you instantly side with for the duration of their storyline, regardless of who turns up with possible alternatives "Nah get lost, maybe if I'd met you first - but how can I take you seriously when I've already spoken to these other loses"
I didn't think it was possible for a computer game to be a moron.
Yeah the Writing is some of the worse I've had the misfortune to experience in any video game, its outright Insulting to the players intelligence at the best of times; pretty much requiring you to shut off your brain and not Think about any of it in order to not realise how bad it is :) anyone that actually stops to Question any of the storylines will find a thousand cracks - it's literally relying on its audience not paying attention lol

If you don't mind my asking - but in what way?
The ironic part is, all the elf racist would be like "See!? I TOLD YOU THE ELVES WERE BEHIND EVERYTHING!" lol

The highlight of the game for me was making sure they all died :D

It's a terrible concept in general, as you say it pretty much relies on nobody EVER mentioning the fact that Varic is dead - I thought "maybe Solas showed everyone it" but Nope, it was only You, this is simply the result of a writer who wanted to trick the player and thought this was a genius way to do it lol
If I HAD to write it myself, it would need to be the case that Varic only showed up to Rook away from the others (risking being talked over, or even Walked Through, would be too risky) and/or actively using blood magic to wipe Rooks memory of anyone mentioning Varic being dead... and at this stage its just fucking massively convoluted... sums up nicely Who the writers at BioWare are however :) they didn't stop for a second and go "wait this is dumb" :D
Fr you could maybe say that he was a spirit that lives in the lighthouse that took the form of varric in that moment, a la Cole in inquisition assuming the form of real Cole, I just had to ignore the whole time the weird dialogue that happened in DATV
@@mlj3347 That would've been better, at least far less cheap than "ha ha we tricked you, no there weren't any hints, don't be silly :D"
He broke his leg, chill."
So there was foreshadowing. Problem is, companions talk so much nonsense, i was literally considering turning volume off. I take it people just don't listen to what they're saying, so it doesn't work as intended.
BioWare is going to have to pull at least a thousand Barves before I even consider Mass Effect 5

NOW THAT SAID HERES THE BUT
The game is full of absolute garbage writing, it plagues the entirety of the game.
@@mikkeluno I avoid the "reee its woke" argument, however valid a cause and effect argument might be in most cases; the way certain people within BioWare think and act isn't great for the creative process - that said instead I focus on the results - take my rant at the start, 100% unscripted, doesn't mention Woke at all because that's not why I hate this game lol
You can do representation in a story, hell I'd even agree with your assessment that "nobody likes being X" could well be a legitimate phrase someone struggling with their own issues might say to deflect and normalize their feelings and/or push them away; the human brain is beyond complicated BUT there's a good and a bad way to write these topics.

I think it was fine for the first hours, but it gets soooooo repetitive with so few risks the further you go imo.
My one solace in all this is that the Veilguard is dead and they can't hurt anyone anymore :) I do the Makers work; if Veilguard hadn't pretty much written the Maker out of existence that is... but yes, worst game of the year and an outright insult to fans of the original games :(
Needs one skilled modder to get the `Dark Urge´ over from #BG3, and that is not copycatting, that is identifying as improving a crappy game.
And skeletons can be affected by bleeding! Make it make sense...
@@docmacabre The shadow government is obviously responsible for that, just like everything else 🙄 duh 🤣

They never liked the original games, this is their way of removing them entirely from the lore lol
@SoulGamesInc At that point I rather not have another DA game if this is how they'll treat the lore as a whole. I'll just stick to BG3. At least they know how to fuggin write a damn narrative!
It's very much time to look elsewhere for good RPGs, because BioWare isn't making them anymore :)
@@YaBoiGuzma At least it has fantasy genders and fantasy pronouns.
Can't believe they joel'd varric 💀
I'm mainly upset that they ruined everything the old writers had setup, and Morrigan's ending makes me so bitter.
This is about as much in the spirit of DA, as Rings of Power is honoring Tolkien. Glad I found this channel!
Apt comparison sadly, same issues, similar reasons; simply isn't what it claims to be at all - its a mask :)
When Taash died 15:18, I genuinely had "Ack!" meme surfaced in my mind.
DA2 is leagues better than Veilguard by comparison, it has lowered the bar of RPGs lol
A decade of being roasted for saying "DA2 is not that bad" and look where we are now
Haha, yeah it's kinda like the StarWars prequals - everyone hated them at release now its "they're not that bad" in light of Disney lowering the bar lmao gives fresh perspective. In 20yrs BioWare will release DA5 and it'll be SO TERRIBLE it somehow makes Veilguard looks alright in comparison lol
>I've never played such "On-Rails" RPG in my life before
Final Fantasy 13.
It genuinely pissed me of haha and I rarely get Genuinely angry at a video game, but Veilguard actively insults the fans :(
Another "deliberately designed and written to piss off fans so the writers can brag to their writer friends how they overcame so much hate by toxic fans and sit around patting each other on the back" type product.
Its not a game. Its bait.
I'm nearing the end off the game, im crying, not because its so emotional, because its so bad, they/them butchered one off my fav series
I wrote that before: I watched a woman stream in tears, coz she could not believe that she paid to witness her beloved Dragon Age undone! `No trick, she was really in shock!´
Could we like…collectively sue Bioware for emotional/monetary damages? Ruining established characters, treating their fans like children, and basically ruining the story with cheap opt outs.
they/them pinned it down and thrusted their massively queer girl penises into it
15:15 Truly the best part of the video, my drink went into my screen when he said "Morgan do not sacrifice yourself for that b***h!... thank you."
This is such an abomination, I'm astonished nobody at the studio challenged these garbage writers.
Well, the studio only hires people who agree with their beliefs; its literally in their interviews if you try to get a job at BioWare
It's an echo chamber. They only listen if you already agree with with what they did, else you're ignored or silenced. They want approval, not genuine feedback.
And they hire people not on professional merit, but ideology and political beliefs.
Yep, and the product quality suffers because of it - surprise surprise
The individuals who would have argued with these bizarre decisions have quit I believe. I have a relative who worked for the studio years back and he says all the old employees are gone.
It's a concentrated effort to cause social backlash against the people the higher ups don't like.
TPB are forcing fake "dei" and "representation" in order to cause those that are being falsely represented will feel the backlash.
Killing varric is a metaphor for killing the franchise we used to love
Puppeting his corpse and pretending to still be alive too haha
it's not only BioWare, EA made the decision, they allowed this to happen.
EA killed the old BioWare, they gave the new one a shovel but BioWare smiled as it dug this hole

Veilguard was written by children for children, has nothing to do with Dragon Age at all, it's pure garbage, the worrying thing is that the idiots that gave us this have moved over to Mass Effect so they can destroy another much loved IP
Mass Effect might be screwed frankly, best to keep an eye on Exodus lol
@SoulGamesInc yeh, I've been following that game and it does seem it's going to be good, people that did the original Mass Effect
The only good thing with this game it's discovering some new awesome yt channels.
DA:O - All of the griphons are extinct.
DA:V- Sudden hidden baby griphons! Awwwww.
Which pretty well sums up how they went about the lore.
Ironically, if you read Last Flight the lore for how they found the clutch of eggs isn't actually bad; but Veilguard ignores all of it 🤣
It’s wild how talentless people somehow get put in charge of massive, multi-million dollar projects, while indie devs are out here making amazing games with a shoestring budget.
(they already did that with the Tolkien's orcs you know, in RoP Season 2....jeez...)
Oh well, I wasn't going to buy this anyway based on that very 1st trailer they gave is earlier this year. Few months later the devs mentioned them not being happy how the marketing team portrayed the game with that first reveal trailer. But despite that the game turned out exactly how I imagined it to be based on that first trailer, so RIP Dragon Age.
Egh, this is why I'd rather never seen another DA than see DA5 at their talentless hands 🤣
Yeah, didn't we see how darkspawn reproduce, in Dragon Age Origins. If they somehow decide to deconstruct "that", then the devs deserve to be destitute.
@@sebastianpijov8708 Broodmothers. They've been ignoring their existence ever since Origins - one of the things they call "too dark and problematic"
"With how things continue, in Dragon Age 5 we'll probably see Darkspawn families and babies, and they want to show us that darkspawn don't want to wage war but they have to."
Did you even play Origins?
So no the Darkspawn aren't "misunderstood" that's a ridiculous notion - the fact that 0 1% might be given Free Will and might choose to Not kill isn't much use to the other 99% lol
+ all the Grey Wardens are now dead and/or will die out by Veilguard lore - there's no use for them anymore - no Archdemon, no Blight, no Song; what Darkspawn remain will simply go utterly insane without the distraction of the song or at best wander aimlessly attacking anything they see.
My expectations for this game were so low they were basically sinking in lava with Caradin all the way down in the depths of the Deep roads and yet i'm still disappointed.
I still like my original joke about my expectations being so low that they witnessed the titanic submersible implode :)
What a trash fire lmao. I honestly hope Bioware gets closed after this.

My Grey Warden didn't die for this.
Mine left Thedas because he knew Veilguard was coming :D
That's why i wanted to help Solas in Inquisition... (and i hoped we could do that in Veilguard, i would have loved that).
But they've removed larger cup sizes and made all the female models muscular/masculine, which leaves those of us who are petite and busty without representation 😂
If they want a specific look for the player avatar, then just make a sprite for male or female and call it a day.
The shadow government bonked the Warden over the back of his head, sent him into a coma, he'll wake up any day now
Excellent video. BioWare should be ashamed of themselves for putting this garbage out.

Honestly they made a new genre.
I have never before wanted SO BADLY to lose in a game. I wanted us to fail.
I was hoping at every moment that all of my team gets wiped. Starting with Trash.
Good riddance
5:40 I didn't get this far in the game (nearly died of cringe and refunded), so here's a question:
Why the hell would "Rook" keep opposing Solas tearing down the Veil if all of Thedas is basically gone?
The whole point of contention was that removing the Veil would release alot of demons into the wild and kill a shitton of people - so the ends (the elves regaining their magic etc) didn't justify the means.
But most of the continent is basically a nuclear wasteland now. What is there to loose?
Even if Arlathan drops back onto Thedas from the sky - there is barely anyone alive to notice. Wouldn't it be better to give the surviving elves more power to rebuild?
Yeah, need to kill the "bad guys" first, but what's the issue afterwards?
(Answering these questions requires some basic form of intelligence which the writers clearly didn't have, so nevermind.)
"Pray that I succeed, for I have seen the throne of gods and it was empty"
- Poor Corypheus, he tried to warn us and we killed him.
Then binds the guy who helped him to the Fade against his will and dooms the Elven people while maintaining a weirdly cheery disposition." 🫠
You are the hero of the people for finishing it for us.

The pain is real.

It's not Dragon Age, but actively insults it :D You're better off enjoying Origins - know I am lol
@@SoulGamesInc I keep alot of folks going back to origins but them graphics are hard to deal with now for me. Why is no one going back to Inquisition? I was thinking of doing that but I keep seeing Origins.
@@Darth0308simple answer, Origins is the best but Inquisition is alright.
You remember Duncan saying "Maker... help us?"
Well, he can't, because the lore needed obviously to state clearly nothing related to the guy is real so he must not exist at all.
Seems like 95% of the conclicts of the universe doesn't exist anymore too. Oh, no, sorry, they are in the fucking codex. The devs can pretend that way they respected the lore.
It's pretty much a reboot of the series and they've destroyed everything Origins, 2 and Inq established lol
THEY KILLED VARIC?!!!!! 🤬
I know right the disrespect
@Darth0308 Just off the top of my head :) I may do a "Can I Fix Veilguard with Good Writing" video at some stage, go over all the story points I'd do better; all the choices I'd add and the areas I'd change to make the game flow better... we'll see... that'll be a big video to do well ha
@@SoulGamesInc The is Rings of Power levels of desecration 😠
Honestly, best thing to do is shrug and move on; go elsewhere for good games made by better companies
@@SoulGamesInc 1000%. You know what's worst than anger for these companies? Apathy. At least anger drives engagement and brings eyes on the product. But apathy, who gives a fuck.
Just found your content. Your voice brings me back to the Total Biscuit days :)
Welcome 😇 TB was my favourite RUclipsr, largely part of the reason I started uploading :)
I can confirm. I was a mournwatch mage and was still having the warden trying to take me in lol
Maker forbid your backstory have any impact on the story whatsoever 😅
15:18 " Morrigan do not sacrifice yourself for that b*tch " 😂😂😂😂
@@tourguidebarbie0 I was genuinely worried they were going to for a second 🤣
I think Neve's voice acting is probably the worst I've ever heard in a video game it sounds like a tone deaf person trying to sing except she's only talking.. Like bruh how do you sound more blunt and unemotional than bloody AI.. yikes this game is bad.
