Hmm. The Warden's aren't there to defend people from the Blight. They're there to defeat the Blight by any means necessary. Is there any DA lore that the Devs didn't either butcher, or completely rewrite?!
The Wardens are defined by doing whatever it takes to stop the blights even if it means sacrificing a few to save the many. If they have to slaughter a village to keep it out of darkspawn hands then they will which is a mercy seeing as we know what Darkspwan do with captives
Keep an eye on who is involved in writing ME5. If you see that Patrick Weekes has been assigned to it, you know it's going to flop since he was lead writer on this game.
@@nunuonroad9969 Oh I know I've read it and I really want to believe him. However, we need to keep an eye on who they appoint as writers (so far it's hush hush). With DAV Patrick Weekes, a blue haired they/them was given the job as lead writer. And he went on to employ Cory Bush and Larry Dale as co-writers, and the result is a lecture on identity politics and pronouns. Any whiff of this in ME5 and it will tarnish the MET, since it and ME5 are supposed to be very closely tied/connected.
Remember in origins, there you could literally sacrifice a child to a demon to learn blood magic and then either lie about it or just straight up tell everyone. Good times.
7:23 EXACTLY. I asked the same question when I first heard that exchange. The only guy who knew the Evanuris were *evil* was Solas and, in some circumstances, the Inquisitor, not the Daelish in general. Even Solas said so at the start of the Inquisition that when he tried to share his knowledge with elves he was basically chased off. FFS, the Daelish (those on the screen included!) still have their gods' markings on their faces! You'd think they'd find a way to remove them if they knew their gods were not the good guys
@@Taubenstampfer Veilguard taught me that numbers are even more of a myth than gender. That’s why I just broke into my old math teacher’s house to tell him that the D he gave me makes him a bigot and a coloniser.
When are you all gonna just admit that BioWare MARKETED this game to DA fans but MADE the game for children? It answers literally 100% of every gripe. The writing is juvenile. The graphics are juvenile. The jokes are juvenile. The characters are juvenile. The puzzles are juvenile. The party elements are juvenile. (all party members share ONE cooldown lmao) The crafting is juvenile. The skill tree is juvenile. The skill setup is juvenile. The combat is juvenile. The whole game is frickin' juvenile. The game is not FOR You. Sure, they want you to BUY it, but they want your kids to play it.
I hope this game is the nail in the coffin for Bioware. I dont even want a new mass effect. James Ohlen and Drew Karpyshn (Fathers of Mass Effect) are now working on Exodus. And the 2 minute lore trailers we get make modern bioware look like chilrden writing with crayons.
Exodus is looking Very promising, that's some good news at least as I think Mass Effect will either never see the light of day, or it'll fail in equally spectacular fashion as Veilguard... if not worse...
I noticed the scaffolding. Another YTer mentioned that the definition of scaffolding is a constructed platform framing to work from. And yet you can somehow bring down huge statues by bringing down the scaffolding. Scaffolding, again, is not used to prop up large structures, but to work off the side of structures more comfortably without having to use a ladder. Um... so it's magical scaffolding which also functions to hold up the huge structures being worked on. And the scaffolding/support structures are brought down by bopping a single plank a few times. Anyone in construction- and especially anyone who owns an expensive sword- will tell you that you can easily chop through planks using a sword- highly recommended if you want to keep the sword. Also the statues appear finished, so you might be wondering why there would be scaffolding, but Solas is a compulsive statue polisher, so... And he has to prop up his statues when he polishes them... So anyway the scaffolding/support structure partially falls, but fortunately Solas doesn't notice. I mean, the cutscene shows him not even being interrupted by Varric the smoothtalker at that moment, fully able to see across to where his scaffolding/support structures (that he needed for his statues for some reason) were falling into ruin. He just didn't notice- busy w the ritual. But then you and a mage noble woman shift aside a large support beam that would normally take a crane to lift and which was being held in its place by the weight of the statue itself... Easy peasy. And since Solas needed giant statues to complete his ritual... What? How can you tear down the Veil without huge statues around your ritual site? It's in the lore maybe. So, he had been personally sculpting statues for 10yrs, got them all scupted- lot of work, lemme tell ya- but he wasn't finished taking down the scaffolding. That's why it was still there. That or sculpture polishing. Look, he didn't take down the scaffolding because he was in a hurry... because... um... he knew the Rookies were onto him, and, being such a vulnerable, weak demigod who, as we saw in Trespasser, has medusa powers to turn people into stone. Yeah, in an instant- just turns people to stone. And not like medusa because he doesn't have to make eye contact or even see you- just poof and you're stoned. He does that. And now he's at his full demigodlike powers. So he was afraid, you see, and started the ritual before the scaffolding was down. You know- the scaffolding that holds up statues. But now the scaffolding beam wasn't there, so the statues fell, and NOOwww he notices and breaks apart the statue and... How did he break apart the statue? He just magicked it. He has some sort of Super Telekinesis power now... Yeah, he has that now. So he resumes the ritual... um... because he doesn't need statues for his ritual. You thought he needed the statues? Noooo, no, no, they were just there really, precariously held up by scaffolding. Were anyway. But now Solas got back to ritualing- or, as they say in Star Trek nowadays- he resumed magicking that shit. And that was when Varric the Smoothtalker simply grabbed Solas, because Varric has always had a way w words. And Solas- remember the guy who can turn people to stone in an instant w his mind and also has Super Telekinesis- and was planning to bring down the Veil which would've killed Varric anyway- yeah, that guy, the mage guy, yeah, he didn't use any powers, just deftly w his mage reflexes turned his ritual dagger around to sink into Varric's chest, clearly piercing Varric's lungs, bleeding him out, fatal wound, falls down the stairs as well, just a goner, dead as dead can be. Varric was OK, talked his way out of it. But, oops, Solas left his ritual dagger in Varric's chest. Rude. He's a bad guy, so... And forgetful. Forgot to keep holding onto the dagger as he stabbed his "friend" Varric fatally-not-fatally in the chest. I mean, he could've turned him to stone or telekinesised him away, but, why not plant his ritual dagger into his "friend" Varric's chest instead? And then leave it there... by accident. I mean, he's not chasing Varric's body down the stairs like, "Oh, crap, the dagger!" Forgot to mention that that's an essential dagger for Solas. He must've forgotten too in the great physical struggle of a demigod. It's his only means to traveling the eluvians... for some reason. But, oops, he left it in Varric's chest. And then the big elfy they/thems showed up and that's when... well, Solas says it was "magical energies" that blasted him into the Fade. You know, the land of black and white that the Fade has never been before and isn't in the rest of the game? Yes, that Fade. So "magical energies" blast him there which apparently didn't blast the elf gods next to him or anyone else in the vicinity. Just Solas. And then the superpowerful elf gods just let you get away. Which of course you can because the injured Harding would obviously be able to drag the lifeless (but not dead) body of the mortally wounded Varric all the way back through the field and the ruins, down the side of the hills and finally through the eluvian. And you end up in Solas' private Fade Theme Park area because... the dagger... is still in Varric's chest... or... Look, you asked about the scaffolding. I can't answer every contrivance that talentless writers interject into their "story." I'm sorry. Really sorry. Fine, I'll pull a barf.
egh she's bloody insufferable, I don't love any of the companions to differing degrees I honestly hope that all of them except the Griffon die by the end of my playthrough; couldn't care less about them lol

When an archdemon dies the nearest grey warden is also meant to die, did they forget that? Because their soul transfers to the nearest darkspawn which is meant to be a grey warden so they can kill them for good

@@nunuonroad9969 I know. It's just horrifying. Dorian was one of my favourite companions in DAI, I just can't believe what has been done to him.😭 I feel bad for people who romanced him.
The dialogue is plagued by a problem known as Mouth Diarrhea where they just endless talk without reason. They needed a trimmer editor to come in and check the script. The other issue is Useless Text where they reinforce an obvious or already said point in the same conversation multiple times or just say something entirely pointless all together. Finally Unprompted Dialogue where all of a sudden dialogue that was not asked about or even relevant is suddenly now the conversation which comes out as forced. These all mean the dialogue feel incredibly unnatural. Which is all techniques Silent Hill 2 used to make it feel off and unsettling. This should not be the case in a serious RPG. The stupid part is all of these are basic level issues that would result in a script being handed back in college or University from a professor saying try again without them even bothering to grade it.
Not just that, EA and BioWare's increased risk aversion probably led to the following practices in the writing department: Mechanized Processes: Implementing standardized, reproducible writing workflows to minimize uncertainty. Parallelizable Workloads: Designing tasks that allow scalable staffing without bottlenecks. Gaider's comments after leaving hint at both. Diluted Writing Impact (to minimize risk further): Reducing the influence of writing by: Avoiding sensitive topics that less experienced writers might mishandle (with some exceptions that indicate the suits may have been right). Eliminating serious interpersonal conflicts among characters, even if such conflicts are a studio hallmark. Adopting a 'popular' standardized, irony-laden dialogue style reminiscent of Whedon/Bendis, resulting in characters sounding like modern high school students. Efficiency Over Depth: Prioritizing streamlined dialogue to: Reduce potential issues and costs associated with voice acting, especially during retakes or rewrites. Depart from the "show, don't tell" principle, with remaining exposition often poorly executed. Favor minimalistic, generic, and interchangeable dialogue, sacrificing character-specific nuances. Basically, lose distinct voices, making it challenging to attribute specific lines to them, unlike in earlier titles like the original Mass Effect or Dragon Age trilogies. Interchangeability and minimizing 'essential' dialogue reduces production costs and lessens the impact of unchosen dialogue paths. Ironically, this streamlined approach coexists with excessive filler dialogue, likely included to counter criticisms of insufficient content…
16:08 grey wardens aren't even grey wardens anymore they dont require you to take in the blight to have immunity to it. And the retcon with the magisters entering solas' cage instead of golden city is just garbage
This is a 6 out of 10 action game and a 3 out of 10 Dragon Age...and I'm generous when giving this abomination a 3/10, because it will make a darkspawn scream in agony
@@SoulGamesInc Just because of the writing I could not give it more then 4/10. The gameplay, what I saw, is prettty standered stuff nothing extra, but the writing is just, brrr.
So far most of the coverage I'd managed to sit through was going over broad examples of companion writing, the identity politics debates/discussions/slander, etc. - But seeing some of the shit interactions and "narrative choices" that completely break or attempt to retcon some of the stuff we've come to know since Origins... Jesus Fucking Christ. Absolute butchery. Dragon Age has officially tumbled into the abyss of being a "Modern Day Gaming Product", Dragon Age only in name. I hope that if there's any canonical followup to Veilguard (without looking ahead for a while because I just don't want to know how much worse the story direction has become) that it's able to course correct.
Damn right, only the environment team pulled their weight. I've never been into the lore and story of anything that became so bad, even for GoT I was a casual fan. This game is so, so bad, it really is the worst kind of fanfiction, feels like "baby first RPG" meets "15 year old with talent in the negative writes 200k while waiting for the next installment of the franchise"
I was so done when Morrigan showed up with the Inquisitor who is supposedly the leader to take down the blight in the south snd failed ro mention her own damn husband , who is the literal commander of rhe ferelden grey wardens and would actually be more involved in the blight than the Inquisitor, and hawke would be too... They couldve made something cool like rhe inquisitior talking abt how her, our HoF, hawke are sll working together down south... But instead anything in the past 3 games that dont involve Solas do not exist. None of our choices exist or matter. This is not a dragon age game.
There's two reasons I see here as to why this exist and one, the other or both can be true. Either the developers have brain damage or they think we do.
The story devs' may have been high for the entirety of there adult life watching Cartoon Network kids cartons and marvel films, then it makes sense. Guardians of the Galaxy films & Cartoon network Adventure Time watching, development for the game started one year after the first Guardians of the Galaxy film & peek of adults high watching Adventure Time.
@@liaminwales uh, ok, thats certainly one of the opinions to have, sounds like you have a vendetta against something or some unresolved trauma but you do you.
You'd be banned permanently off the Steam forum of the game for saying that. I said something very similar `They are mentally unstable` and got banned permanently. It was worth it.
27:39 This is genuinly one of the most baffling things I've heard from this game so far in terms of their gender politics. As is mentioned, the dialogue in these sections are clearly self-insert. The lead director is a trans-woman and self proclaimed "gendermancer". So why in every variation of hell is this a part of the game? We are talking about people who both in real life and in the game propose that people can just...change themselves to whatever it is they want to be. If you truly believe that "no one likes being a woman" than why would ANYONE ever be a woman? Unless of course we are suppose to take Taash's character to be an angsty teen that just says shit out of pure angst. In which case we can not take anything she says seriously. The writers cant even agree on a message or idea they want to convey to the audience.
The worst part is the character complains about mistreatment yet when we meet the person who allegedly mistreated them over their identity the person does nothing wrong, is simply confused and seems genuinely trying to understand and they just snap at them like they are automatically correct. They threw this stuff in to validate themself yet botched at writing so hard they accidentally depicted the character as being an emotionally unstable loon instead of a victim.
I remember I had my reservations about Inquisition when it came out, as it was called cisquisition for being "woke" (before the term started to become common). I was won over by the writing after delving deeper into the game. For many of your companions (Iron Bull, Solas and Sera in particular) you can push hard against their ideology and they push right back. The geopolitical manuvering happening in the background (Chantry's powerplay, Orleasian civil war, Qunari probing for weakness in Thedas, etc) also added depth onto the main plot of stopping an ancient evil. None of that in Veilguard, it's just straight forward exposition and blandness.
So.... Huh?? I'm so confused. So the Tevinter mages opened Solas' prison, aka the Golden City, so Solas is the Maker? And some Elven meth got out, aka the Blight, which is what exactly? And the Archdemons are.. they had names, in Origins, they're nothing, all of a sudden? And.. what.. I.. need a Valium.
I miss when things were more simple in DA origins now everything revolves around elves and elvish lore which is always a confusing mess. This is how I see things the blight existed before the elven gods as solas says they harnessed it for power he locked them up in the black city magisters broke in thinking it was golden got corrupted by the blight and became the first Darkspwan. The black city is basically ground zero for the blight and if it was ever unleashed it would destroy the world only thing I don’t get is how the archdemons fit into all this now
The maker part is me joking, but I wouldn't be surprised at this rate, they've declared that the Archdemons were always just normal dragons just enslaved by the elven gods, because the elves are responsible for everything ever done 😅😂 including the blight
@@CynicalWarlockI forgot what exactly but it has something to do with the Titans. Solas and mythal defeated them by using the Lyrium dagger and severing their dreams.
Hey, stop comparing it to much to Hogwarts Legacy - while the combat indeed looks very similar, Hogwarts is just a school for kids to learn magic, so the artstyle is much darker and very diffrent! Not like Dragon Age, which is a fantasy medival setting where people fight wars, which is obviously much more cartoony.
Hey I liked Legacy 🤣 the characters worked for it, combat worked for it, story lacked a lot of RPG but overall it was a great Harry Potter game... just wasn't a great Dragon Age lol
What's even worse is if they just want to ruin their own characters, fine, but they ruined returning characters as well. Isabela, Morrigan and anyone else coming back. Worse, they contradict themselves and make the characters self-centered, while trying to play them off like heroes. Sad. Sad, sad sad.
The writing totally looks like they through crap against a wall to end storylines. Thank you for enduring this trash. For me the story ended with Inquisition.
@@SoulGamesIncsteam won’t give me a refund so I’m stuck with this game. Not even mad just disappointed. And also holy shit your laughing at the statue thing, that was my exact reaction. What lazy writing.
Scaffolding isn't even used to prop up buildings, its to Work on them; doesn't make any sense :D why does an Ancient Abandoned Elven Ruin need fucking scaffolding and Why is it apparently stopping it from falling over - those ruins stood for a thousand years until Solas apparently decided to add some wooden planks lol
@@SoulGamesInc The more I think about it the more ridiculous it gets, lmao. And then another thing really bugging me playing as a warden is that is barely feels like your character even is a warden. And they repeat your backstory and what’s happening like every damn millisecond 🙃.
Oh you're a saint, 20 hours!! i could not stand it more than 3 hours, the bad story and the awfull dialogues were starting to damage my brain. I don't know if i will have the courage to go on any further. Honestly i have never played a game with so cringe and meaningless dialogues, even Starfield looks great now, Emil could give some lectures to the writer of DAV, well i hesitate to call him/her/they/them a writer it's so weird. And it's not because of the woke content, i don't care about this, it's just another nail in the coffin they should throw this game in and forget about it.
Here's 3 dialog options. Don't worry, it doesn't matter what you pick your character will say the same thing. Here's a world changing plot decision we're going to spring on you with no warning, but don't worry. The consequences are the same no matter what you decide, after all there is no right or wrong here. I'm only part way into the game at this point, but I fully expect the reward at the end to be a participation trophy. "I'm a mage, why am I asking that question?" Been wondering the same thing, apparently in this game you can be a mage and yet still be completely ignorant of the veil, the fade, demons, abominations, lyrium, magic mirrors, apostates, malificar, templars, and just magic in general. I got my mage license from a box of lyrium pops.
I've realized that you could just skip every conversation and pick dialogue at random and still know what's happening because after every "big" mission, you gather around for a team meeting and they retell you everything that's happened from the quest(s) you just did a minute ago lmao
I said it before but Veilguard genuinely feels like its a Scooby Doo cartoon. The dialogue is that level of sillyness. The wheel they use might as well be replaced with 3 things. "Zoinks" "Jinkies" and "I'm a strong non binary Qunari who don't need no help". They went from dark and gritty fantasy to Borderlands level of tone and stakes. Combat is straight up incomparable to Origins and other CRPGs. I was playing a mage. I have a blink which can be used without cool down and has I frames. I can animation cancel attacks mid combo jump about from spidey sense attack indicators and aoe markers. And spam auto attacks while doing all this.
Excellent impression video, the "look how they massacred my boy" bit killed me. I have a uneasy feeling that is going to be my thoughts on every aspect of the game.... very entertaining and well done.
It's kinda funny and tragic they maked the evil in the story all elven based, elven gods, when in the previous dragon age games racisim towards the elves was part of the world building. Like the elves in this IP are treated like scum, like serfs, like slaves. Like they don't have any right to exist in civilized society, and you try to help them in previous games. Now the story is, all the darkspawn you fought before were created and controlled by elven gods and we must destroy the elves because they are the root of all evil.
This video is comedy gold, good thing to come out of the fail guard is finding new channels who are roasting this nonsense. Thanks man, this is fantastic. As a long time fan of the previous 3 games, books and graphic novels and movies. This game is an abomination and the political crap on top, just icing on top of a shit cake imo. At least the comedy factor from this is entertaining! - Also agree with every point you make. It's like they don't know the lore? hmmm. I wonder? lol
It's really just Not a Dragon Age game at all and they clearly aim to retcon everything to move as far away from the original games as possible; preferring to create their own safe version of Thedas lol
At this point im not even going to pirate this shit. Its bad enough that the gameplay looks like a cross between Hogwarts Legacy and DnD Dark Alliance (2021), but now i see that the game literally treats you like a blind child, AND theyve just ignored already established Grey Warden lore of you must drink Darkspawn blood t become a Warden or it kills you, and yet SOMEHOW you cant sense the very thing your whole existence is meant to defend against??? WHAT. THE FUCK. DID THEY DO. TO MORRIGAN!?!? WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT SHIT!!??
@@SoulGamesInc Im sure it could have done "fine" if they just didnt call it Dragon Age and made it its own thing (aside from the forced gender politicking...), but to keep it tied to the name is just a plain insult to everything that came before.
Mhmm, yeah if it was a new IP it wouldn't get As Much heat; tho it still wouldn't be "good" but "another mediocre action adventure that's trying to be God of War" at least it wouldn't get compared to Dragon Age lol
Wardens aren't even a thing in Dragon Age anymore after this, no more Blight, no more Archdemons, no need for the Grey Wardens to exist :D Ferelden is in ruins, everyone there is dead, Orzammar too - this whole thing is one big "Fuck You" to any fan of the original games lol
Why does the baby griffin have feathers? Baby birds don't. They get their feathers when they are young adults, and then they do not have big round heads and big round eyes, because that is what babies have to make the parents feel protective. And if it is a baby it has not developed the muscle necessary to fly, much less cary a rider. Did they just not reality check their ideas, before moving forward?
Well in theory its many years old now, so it's more a Teenager? I dunno it's never explained in the game I've just read the book Dragon Age: Last Flight where a group of Wardens find a clutch of eggs and they hatch at the end of the story, but Veilguard then wrote out all these wardens and gave the griffons to the elf of colour for reasons... goodbye Valya the elven mage... she'd have made for a great companion frankly...
@@SoulGamesInc And how they explained the extinct Griffons. I was like, wow, the Grey Wardens were forced to do their job. What a harsch choice, but they made it to save the world. Those guys would have celebrated the sacrifice thei order made, not hide it. The Grey Wardens take the blight themselfes, why would they hide the fact that they needed to to the same for the Griffons. And I mean hide it within their order. They indeed hide the fact about the blight for good reason. And of course, still a harsch decision, but all we get as a response is a support of our companions who call this a crime an unbelievable crime towards the griffons. For christ sake, they did the same they do to people and they did it to save the world. But we get the same iditotic narrative as we are getting with the titans and the dwarfs. They subdued and enslaved my people! And all I can do is agree to that one dimensional take. ITs alright to have that opinion, specifically in anger, but let me at least have the freedom to put some perspective in it. Not even touching the fact that I hardly understand for example Harding being so upset about some forgotten Titans - she acts like she experienced anything and I don't even get it honestly, are dwarfs now gods as well, like the elves, just coming from titans instead of spirits?
Why is there a black guy cosplaying as an Elf? Seriously though, there isn't any explanation why elves are now very ethnically diverse.... It's not like people of different ethnicities show up randomly from nowhere. Same with the Asian Elf. Which is even more egregious. As she again just randomly is from here. Except it was already established in previous games that there are Asian looking Elves FROM THE CONTINENT ACROSS THE SEA! Of which the Asian Elf from this game is not. They could have easily worked it in that she washed ashore or something from there. Maybe left home and went on a journey across the seas to show up here. Giving an actual in game reason for there being a random Asian Elf in this game.... but no. Instead, in a series where EVERY elf has been pale skinned for THREE GAMES, now we need to add in two new ones out of nowhere with no explanation, no reasons other than to check boxes that we have a black guy and asian girl in the game. Guess we might as well make them elves while we're at it because they were too white, of course.....
eh it's like the Rings of Power dwarves that are Black for some reason, its not done because it fits the story its done to fit a message; instead of actually creating an interesting story reason for characters looking how they do - don't ask questions you bigots :P
Most of current BioWare has never played DAO and/or Hates it. One developer on DAI streamed themselves playing Origins (because they'd never played it) and said that "they'd never do anything like this again" calling Origins too dark and too problematic lol
11:11 Wow, they destroyed Morrigan. She enters far better and talks far better in the original game I played- and looked better. I'll just go back and play that. These kids today do not know what they're doing.

I'm not gonna lie I've played Fallout 4 for over 600 hours and had fun but I don't think I'd ever play this game for more than 10 hours at the absolute max. Fallout 4 dialogue choices were often of the time illusion of choice, but I think the game was otherwise fantastically written excluding a few isolated moments, including the museum of freedom, entrance to the cabot house, convincing dr li to work on liberty prime, etc. But to be honest you did only compare the dialogue choices, I don't think Fallout 4 and Veilguard gameplays can even be discussed during the same day.
@SoulGamesInc i mean it gets me to subscribe the channel so there's that. If you'll suffer for me I can at least like, comment, follow, and bump those algorithms. May your next game be more fun.
@yihadistxdl951 I was not comparing Fallout 4's Gameplay to Veilguards no, that would be rather silly :) just the comparison of the dialogue being often an illusion of choices - there's no other relation to draw on between the two - is why I mention Telltale also because it has the same illusion of choice for many of its titles
I am at 25:40 and yes the Maker is an elf, it was established in Inquisition. The Dread Wolf created the world of men when he held back the sky. The Maker is also the one credited with sealing away the Elven Gods, which Solas just confirmed he did. Solas/The Dread Wolf/Fen'harel is the Maker. I think part of why us old fans are having a problem with the game is because they revealed too much of the mystery.
in my personal opinion it didnt make sense in inquisition to make him the maker, but then again i'm a diehard origin fan and i think just making everything the elvens fault is bad and dumb, especially when they suddenly made the archdemons some pets
I don't think it's literally confirmed that the Maker is Solas there's just similarities and the Chantry claiming the Maker put up the veil; but the Chantry does tend to Lie - its all propaganda - like how they claim the Maker created Thedas for the Humans buuut not the Dwarves, so why/how create a World then what- let something else create life there too? It's also unexplained why Spirits would believe in the Maker, if it doesn't exist... if Solas is the Maker and its as Simple and Boring as that... well... The Lead Designer of DAO & DA2 stated that the purpose of the Maker was "Faith in the Unseen" Veilguard took the unseen and tossed it kicking and screaming into the light, and turns out its Ugly.
18:19 Your frustration and admonishment with the dialogue is perfect: "Stop calling them gods! He doesn't believe you! He's never going to believe you" You actually sound like what the main character should be talking to an actual stupid NPC. If only a decent writer made this option. Subscribed.
@@SoulGamesInc I said the same thing, as I paused the video to laugh. I also am writing my own stories, I am glad I came across your channel, every point you made, I have said and thought, not put it on my own channel yet, but I am glad I am not the only one fed up with this horseshit lol. @@TheFreedyShow Nice. just to let you know, I also write and make my own comic. And it's pretty gritty stuff without the `modern` nonsense. Guess we are all the decent writers are over here. Better than that game anyway, but we're not wanted. Not `woke` enough.
I forget what interview it was, but this chick talked about her experience doing an interview with BioWare for some position or another; one of the leading questions she got asked is how she felt about the elves and slavery and pronouns - she didn't get the job because she asked if it was a joke/she didn't give the "correct" answer lol
Yea even women who don't agree with the woke mantra will be kicked out. Don't matter if you're female, black or white, gay, you gotta agree with their woke mantra or out.
As a non-binary person myself I think this game is 10/10 a true modern masterpiece I love the inclusivity, the top surgery scars, pronouns are the most important thing and everything else doesn't matter. The lore, your choices, stakes in the writing doesn't matter. Nooo who needs that.
@SoulGamesInc it's a rhethorical question but what the hell happened to Dragon Age? Sheesh even 2 didn't feel this bad even though they reused a bunch of areas and rushed it.
@@Crusader-m8yI've literally a "Dragon Ages Identity Crisis" video touching on that very topic 🤣 ultimately tho, nobody who worked on Origins or 2 worked on Veilguard since they all quit - BioWare has been bleeding talent for 10+ years - those who remain actively Hate the original titles
There's justifiable arguments to compliment almost everything about the game but the dialogue and writing isnt even debatable. Its 1/10. Possibly one of the worst writing ive ever seen in an RPG that ive played in my life. Its impressive, really. Its impossible to stay immersed in a game if you can constantly over and over feel that the dialogue tells me more about the writers than the characters themselves. Self-inserts and character dialogue is so Disney, bland and milk-toast and pointless, theres nothing dark in the entire game, because someone "might get offended". Its so safe and sterile at all times and feels like the writers are lecturing the players. On top of this half of the dialogue in the game exists for the sole purpose to make sure the player is up to date with their current task and knows what theyre doing at all times, almost as if the game is trying to hold the players hand the whole time. Frankly ive never had my intelligence insulted by video game writing this much in my life.
yeah the entire warden dialogue just highlights how tone deaf the writers are, the ego is always right, nothing else so they can't have nuance to the convo or treat them as adults - to come up with a lie to get help as he said safe dialogue never challenge the player
Fun fact: Baldur's gate still has more concurrent players than Veilguard since release. This is what BioWare considers a "Major success". You can check the numbers right now.
intro song gave me immediate flashbacks of the Adventure Time standalone series: Fionna and Cake. And that just reminded me of how better writing can mesh well with cartoony artstyles.
I can easily ignore any artstyle if the story is good, graphics hardly important imo but an RPG with bad writing, dialogue and no real choice is just bad 😅
I just don't understand how people like the director of this game keep getting put in charge of multi million dollar projects. Like are these companies just trying to burn money?
@@crimsiden Investment firms like Blackwall who have an agenda giving these companies millions, that's how 🤣 also, they selectively only hire people who agree with their political opinion these days

One more for the Road. In regards to it not being an RPG well it is it's a new genre by bioware the new fangled RPG. The Railroad Progression Game. Where your Choices don't matter and your decisions are all the same.
This game seriously is an insult to everyone with 2 brain cells xD NPC be like "You can break the wall!" "Oh... you already did it... well" "Look, more enemies!" "Oh... you already killed them with the convenient placed War machine, damn"
I regret doing the ritual in DAO the grey warden have to die before seeing this abomination one more thing now I realise why templars were hunting apostate mages this is just sad where is my dark gore fantasy game 😭
A lot of people complained about the companion dialogue but I found Rooks dialogue way more insulting, Rook is written like an idiot no matter what options you choose.
Yep, you've a choice between Yes, Yes, or Yes Please - the result is already determined for you, doesn't matter :D I realised you can totally skip all conversations and just get the recap of events from your group meetings that happen after every mission lol
This reminds me of those "In development" games where there is "going to be" other routes to the story, but in the current build only one is done, so all the choices just go to that path, regardless of what they SAY they are for.
I'm 3/4 the way through your video and your commentary is 100% me playing this damn game 😅😂😂 Edit: I agree, meh is what I felt too. I'm on ch10 and I feel mentally exhausted from all the stupidity and cringe. So much lore just forgotten. I do like lucanis and spite. Should've had way more of them than what they gave.
On that note, check out Exodus, even if Mass Effect is doomed; it has serious competition coming from a studio created by former BioWare devs that worked on Origins and the original Mass Effect(s)
@@SoulGamesInc Yes, i'm following Exodus already and i'm hopeful. The old devs that are working on their own games might replace the old Bioware we used to love, fingers crossed!

WHAT?!??!?!MFKLJ:AFNHLJA>FNIALF: That backstory section: "fuck you I was right, I am better, I am good". What a cringe way to start a character's story lmfao
Yo, no way! How are they gonna mess with the lore that's been locked since day one? Even *Inquisition* respected it-like, it was the magisters who barged into the Golden City and ended up as the first blighted. It's wild how they think they can just rewrite history like that. Are we supposed to pretend none of this happened? Honestly, messing with such iconic story points feels like it's challenging what made it legendary in the first place.
@@SoulGamesInc thank god we have the original Game to use an reference. Then game I going to get a physical copy cause they may try to de-list it altogether like Rockstar with the original GTA games or Sony with Horizon
My wife and I have been pointing this same problem out with Disney movies for the last 20 years. The child always knows better than the parents, disobeys the parents, and is proven to be correct before the movie is over. This is literal Disney writing. This is games for women, made by women, and its painfully obvious
14:58 I would have uninstalled the game right there. That is 100% not what I said. At all. This game has a bad habit of just doing that. Not even illusion of choice, there's literally NO choices. Rook is one way and one way only. No matter WHAT you choose, Rook says that they made the right choice. If they wanted to make a solid character that you customize, fine. But why give these asinine dialogue choices where what you see on the tin isn't what you get?
Honestly, I can close my eyes on horrendeous character and quest design. I maybe can close my eyes on bad writing (escept of overwriting the whole lore and creating inconsistencies), but like... i don't wanna play the game that openly hates women? I can't create anything similar to my body type in this game, where the body types are provided. Isabella's body has also been nerfed. And then the prized non-binary genderqueer wardrobe of a quanari openly says "nobody likes being a woman"? lol
I played the games in this series in reverse order. First DAI, then DA2 and DAO last of all very recently. I love DAI, but DAO amazed me. I played as a Dalish elf, already knowing the lore of the entire series of games. And I was able to play out the perfect idea of my elf: he hated that he was forcibly taken from his native environment, although he resisted until the end. Therefore, my hero hated the Grey Wardens and people in general, this was not his world. And I managed to play out the smallest nuances of the fate and vision of the world of such an elf. DAO amazed me and riveted all my thoughts for many hours. And in Awakening, I almost screamed when I saw the last credits. I sacrificed the city and the game told me that the reputation of the Grey Wardens suffered for years from this, and that there were rumors that I was getting even with people because I was an elf. And it was just mind-blowing. I played Veilguard for 2 hours, got stupid, my brain stopped working and I deleted this game.
I honestly am sitting here dragging myself through Veilguard and the biggest disappointment is me thinking how I'd have written the story differently in every aspect, and how much better it would be lmao the writing is just dreadful, you've 0 control over Who your character is, 0 choice in how you respond or how you act - it's just dreadful when you compare it to the earlier games :( further back you go, better the story gets lol
@SoulGamesInc exactly my thoughts! I ended up having killed Leliana, Wynne and Shale, Oghren, Alistair became a drunkard, Morrigan and Sten left the squad, and I was perfect happy in the end with the mabari and Zevran. And it was MY story, unique, thought over and with a part of my soul. Playing Veilguard was for me some sort of a walking simulator, with no choice and no story of my own. Thank you for your video, I enjoyed it a million times more than the Veilguard 🤣
I have said alot about this game, but you are saying the things that enter my mind and that I choose to push away. At least through you I am having fun watching the game
Cracking up bc are we the same person?? Not only do I share your opinion on the game, but I also made my Rook an elven warden named Visenya 😂 with how kind/heroic/diplomatic our Rooks are forced to be, maybe Alysanne would have been a better choice for us? 😮💨😂
The graphics are good, the sound design is decent. The combat is pretty good. The voice acting is really solid. Even the base story is somewhat interesting. I actively enjoyed a lot about this game. And none of that matters because the dialogue was absolutely dogshit. Every time one of the companions would talk in the game I would cringe. I dreaded walking around and exploring because of the stupid, inane comments they would spit out, the repetitive nonsense violating my eardrums every 5 fucking seconds. Really pisses me off that they did so much work on everything and then managed to ruin it all with this one, single, awful choice. As far as dragon age gameplay goes its down at the bottom with inquisition. But the dialogue just makes it so much worse than it had to be. Honestly I came into this game with bottomed out expectations and for about an hour I was really pleasantly surprised. From then on it just became worse and worse every minute I spent wandering around the world never being allowed to enjoy the environments.
As tends to be the case too often these days, if the Writing wasn't utterly garbage, it might've been half good; not a hater of the combat so much tho it lacks anything remotely tactical its otherwise "fine" after all DA2 didn't bother me when it decided to go for the Action/Speedy combat (at least Mage felt impactful and fun) but That had least kept some tactical feel. The world is pretty, but the Writing/Story/Dialogue is outlandishly dreadful lol
Im so happy RUclips threw this video at me. Finally, I found someone who is as disappointed and mad at whatever this game throws at you. Almost everytime some lore gets dropped im absolutely malding. The world looks amazing, but thats the only thing that is actually good.
As someone who played all of Dragon age Origins and dlc as well as read anything and everything in the game, I find this new one insulting. This has as much respect for the story and lore as the new Disney star wars. I believe the original dragon age they took over a year just writing lore before designing a game narrative set in the universe they created.

When I saw the first Veilguard trailer and saw the Veiljumper elf chick, I immediately thought of Aquafina and it seems it is not inaccurate...

Not just that, EA and BioWare's increased risk aversion probably led to the following practices in the writing department:
Mechanized Processes: Implementing standardized, reproducible writing workflows to minimize uncertainty.
Parallelizable Workloads: Designing tasks that allow scalable staffing without bottlenecks.
Gaider's comments after leaving hint at both.
Diluted Writing Impact (to minimize risk further): Reducing the influence of writing by:
Avoiding sensitive topics that less experienced writers might mishandle (with some exceptions that indicate the suits may have been right).
Eliminating serious interpersonal conflicts among characters, even if such conflicts are a studio hallmark.
Adopting a 'popular' standardized, irony-laden dialogue style reminiscent of Whedon/Bendis, resulting in characters sounding like modern high school students.
Efficiency Over Depth: Prioritizing streamlined dialogue to:
Reduce potential issues and costs associated with voice acting, especially during retakes or rewrites.

@@SoulGamesInc Just because of the writing I could not give it more then 4/10. The gameplay, what I saw, is prettty standered stuff nothing extra, but the writing is just, brrr.

They actively dislike the original games and want/plan to retcon them entirely
look at how they've massacred my boy
There's two reasons I see here as to why this exist and one, the other or both can be true. Either the developers have brain damage or they think we do.
It's both :D mentally ill people creating dreadful stories for fans whom they hate lol
"Emotionally Unstable Loon" and "Victim" is the same thing with these people
I remember I had my reservations about Inquisition when it came out, as it was called cisquisition for being "woke" (before the term started to become common).
Inquisition had its problems but it was leagues better then this mess
DAI has its issues but damn, I'd much rather be playing that right now; no competition
So....
@@Jay3up But what *is* the Blight?
The Blight is just Elf STDs duh the vints broke into the fade elf sex dungeon and caught something
@@SoulGamesInc Alright so I guess its confirmed then? Hogwarts Legacy is the best of the more recent Dragon Age titles ? :D
Can't be worse than Veilguard :D
What's even worse is if they just want to ruin their own characters, fine, but they ruined returning characters as well. Isabela, Morrigan and anyone else coming back. Worse, they contradict themselves and make the characters self-centered, while trying to play them off like heroes. Sad. Sad, sad sad.
Almost everyone with talent that used to work at BioWare has left the company, its sad and plain to see :(
What we wanted was Dreadwolf. What we got was Dreadful.
Yeah or Treadlightly with the vanilla conversation options.
The writing totally looks like they through crap against a wall to end storylines. Thank you for enduring this trash. For me the story ended with Inquisition.
I'd have uninstalled it by now if not for the channel so yeeeah, can't recommend even Playing it yet alone Paying lol
Non buy-nary.
Wouldn't even pirate it...
I wouldn't recommend anyone Play it yet alone Pay for it lol
Oh you're a saint, 20 hours!! i could not stand it more than 3 hours, the bad story and the awfull dialogues were starting to damage my brain. I don't know if i will have the courage to go on any further. Honestly i have never played a game with so cringe and meaningless dialogues, even Starfield looks great now, Emil could give some lectures to the writer of DAV, well i hesitate to call him/her/they/them a writer it's so weird. And it's not because of the woke content, i don't care about this, it's just another nail in the coffin they should throw this game in and forget about it.
Some of that 20hrs includes the times I paused the game and just fucked off away from my desk because I didn't want to continue playing 🤣
Rook is an assassin that saves lives??? WTH😅🤣🤣
Honestly with the way they portrayed the antivan crows in this game I wouldn’t be surprised if instead of assassinations they save lives
@@Jay3upThey regularly talk about protecting the city, haye tyrants and only seem to take contracts on "bad guys"
Every single Background is "Rook saves lives because they're good guy, authority doesn't like that" end of backstory
Yeeeeah it's not Dragon Age anymore, this is Veil Age or Woke Age or whatever you want to name it lol
The writers of this series really dislike the Andrastian Faith.
They dislike Dragon Age, or what DA used to be 😅
Excellent impression video, the "look how they massacred my boy" bit killed me. I have a uneasy feeling that is going to be my thoughts on every aspect of the game.... very entertaining and well done.
I'll "review" is properly eventually 😂 just might take awhile, needless to say the game hasn't hooked me to play it for long sessions lol
@@Andy_Van Elves are to blame, all the elf-racists were clearly on to something!!!
you better pull a barve for that or i won't believe you
I choose death
Honestly, if I didn't have the channel I'd have uninstalled it already, is 100% not worth playing yet alone buying
I love how with every game entry they make grey warden more and more like a joke then an ancient guardians...jesus kill me
Wardens aren't even a thing in Dragon Age anymore after this, no more Blight, no more Archdemons, no need for the Grey Wardens to exist :D Ferelden is in ruins, everyone there is dead, Orzammar too - this whole thing is one big "Fuck You" to any fan of the original games lol
I identify as non-BUYnary, I'm not modern enough for this.
Guess we might as well make them elves while we're at it because they were too white, of course.....
eh it's like the Rings of Power dwarves that are Black for some reason, its not done because it fits the story its done to fit a message; instead of actually creating an interesting story reason for characters looking how they do - don't ask questions you bigots :P
corporate heads be like: they are not qualified to write a short story soooo..... they must be qualified to write a multi million dollar project
It seems whoever took the writing job of this game since Inquisition hated the Wardens so much. Or maybe hated the DAO even LOL
Most of current BioWare has never played DAO and/or Hates it. One developer on DAI streamed themselves playing Origins (because they'd never played it) and said that "they'd never do anything like this again" calling Origins too dark and too problematic lol
@SoulGamesInc lol for them to call it problematic.
11:11 Wow, they destroyed Morrigan. She enters far better and talks far better in the original game I played- and looked better. I'll just go back and play that. These kids today do not know what they're doing.
I replayed Origins before Veilguard :) Waaaaaay funner lol
You had literally the same reactions as mine when I was playing. Glad to know it's not just me
Imagine somone was never in touch with DA just stumbles over origins and decides to play the other three afterwards 😅 i think its as close as somone can get to losing his mind
Try listening to these companies cry about their feelings every other mission in their lil group therepy sessions - you'll lose your mind pretty quick that way too lol
Veilguard is so painfully mediocre that I'm struggling to actually finish it because it's so very dull :D

Nice. A tuber who is honest and direct. Never give up, Never surrender! I subbed. oh, and the Emperor Protects.
It's also unexplained why Spirits would believe in the Maker, if it doesn't exist... if Solas is the Maker and its as Simple and Boring as that... well...
The Lead Designer of DAO & DA2 stated that the purpose of the Maker was "Faith in the Unseen"
Veilguard took the unseen and tossed it kicking and screaming into the light, and turns out its Ugly.
I don't think Jack Sparrow even wan't to touch this.
I wouldn't recommend he bother either, there's no treasure to be found here - not worth the time
18:19 Your frustration and admonishment with the dialogue is perfect: "Stop calling them gods! He doesn't believe you! He's never going to believe you"
You actually sound like what the main character should be talking to an actual stupid NPC. If only a decent writer made this option.
Subscribed.
I write as a hobby (writing my own book atm) so I literally say, I could write a better story than this crap lol
@@SoulGamesInc I said the same thing, as I paused the video to laugh. I also am writing my own stories, I am glad I came across your channel, every point you made, I have said and thought, not put it on my own channel yet, but I am glad I am not the only one fed up with this horseshit lol. Keep being awesome dude!
It's clearly Game of the Year :D
@SoulGamesInc it's a rhethorical question but what the hell happened to Dragon Age? Sheesh even 2 didn't feel this bad even though they reused a bunch of areas and rushed it.
@@Crusader-m8yI've literally a "Dragon Ages Identity Crisis" video touching on that very topic 🤣 ultimately tho, nobody who worked on Origins or 2 worked on Veilguard since they all quit - BioWare has been bleeding talent for 10+ years - those who remain actively Hate the original titles
@SoulGamesInc I should check that one out man.
Here you go: ruclips.net/video/bnXupaMW_3U/видео.html :)
Frankly ive never had my intelligence insulted by video game writing this much in my life.
yeah the entire warden dialogue just highlights how tone deaf the writers are, the ego is always right, nothing else so they can't have nuance to the convo or treat them as adults - to come up with a lie to get help as he said
safe dialogue never challenge the player
Fun fact:
Baldur's gate still has more concurrent players than Veilguard since release.
This is what BioWare considers a "Major success". You can check the numbers right now.
Yep, is hilarious really :D esp when you note that Steam Refunds have increased by a margin since Veilguard released lol
intro song gave me immediate flashbacks of the Adventure Time standalone series: Fionna and Cake.
It's a role playibg game where you can play any role you want if the role is what the developers already decided for you
I swear to shit, nothing you do matters :D I just replayed a "maze" they put you in - they even turn off the minimap - reloaded several times just to confirm that it doesn't matter what way you go in the maze, doesn't matter what path you take, it's always wrong and you always end up with Solas getting you out lmao
You're too stupid to decide for yourself, you need to be guided through the game, the story, and probably life itself.
This is what you get when the only book the writers read was first Harry Potter story.
It's a mediocre action fantasy game wearing a Dragon Age skin. I will not play it.
I 100% wouldn't bother either if not for the channel I'd have uninstalled already
The dialogue choices are basically one step up from gacha game dialogue. Bravo Bioware 👏
Yeeeah, it's some of the worst dialogue I've had the displeasure of witnessing lol
Nah try a gacha like Arknights far better writing than this shit.
OOOH That Hogwarts animation!!! It's 1 for 1, my jaw is on the floor

I regret doing the ritual in DAO
the grey warden have to die before seeing this abomination
one more thing now I realise why templars were hunting apostate mages
this is just sad
where is my dark gore fantasy game 😭
This is why the Warden left Thedas
A lot of people complained about the companion dialogue but I found Rooks dialogue way more insulting, Rook is written like an idiot no matter what options you choose.
Yep, you've a choice between Yes, Yes, or Yes Please - the result is already determined for you, doesn't matter :D I realised you can totally skip all conversations and just get the recap of events from your group meetings that happen after every mission lol
So instead of having a hot waifu for each spec or spells, you cant even switch characters at all?
How 2004 of them
4:31 lol you made Galadriel!
You have not Seen that I have Seeeen!!!!! :P
This reminds me of those "In development" games where there is "going to be" other routes to the story, but in the current build only one is done, so all the choices just go to that path, regardless of what they SAY they are for.
Honestly I had such a laugh with your reactions xD It's better than the game lol

That backstory section: "fuck you I was right, I am better, I am good".
Untalented people who are DEI hires writing bad fanfiction. The BioWare offices must have been dystopian these last years geezus
It's clear to me that they're aim is to reboot the entire IP into whatever lame version of DA they envision being superior 😅 less dark and problematic

Don't insult your wife dude
Too bad the dev lead and some of the writers aren't females. They think they are though. You can figure the rest yourself.
@@Etherwinter I wish I could say it only happened Once but truth is its Every Fucking Time 🤣 the dialogue choices aren't any choice at all
Pixar and Marvel have joined forces to present you a Therapist approved "Dragon Age" for a Modern audience.
Therapist Approved 😅 That's good lol
Honestly, I can close my eyes on horrendeous character and quest design. I maybe can close my eyes on bad writing (escept of overwriting the whole lore and creating inconsistencies), but like... i don't wanna play the game that openly hates women? I can't create anything similar to my body type in this game, where the body types are provided. Isabella's body has also been nerfed. And then the prized non-binary genderqueer wardrobe of a quanari openly says "nobody likes being a woman"? lol
I've given up trying to explain the Why of any decisions they've made, I got nothin lol
Oh wow I just found my new favorite youtuber. thanks for this, i feel less insane.
Glad you enjoyed the video, I'm not enjoying playing it lmao :D
@ me neither! :’D
You've had fun and I get to not play it anymore, we both win ;) haha
It hurts to see the Dragon Age series brought so low.
You and I both :( but almost everyone I know had been expecting for years that it would be a disaster
Thank you for this, love the humour!
And holy fuck is your voice similar to Total Biscuit.
I get the TB comment a lot :) he was largely the reason I ever started uploading videos
Cracking up bc are we the same person?? Not only do I share your opinion on the game, but I also made my Rook an elven warden named Visenya 😂 with how kind/heroic/diplomatic our Rooks are forced to be, maybe Alysanne would have been a better choice for us? 😮💨😂
Haha, I use Visenya a lot, named my first pet snake Visenya 😂 most of the channel is normally Asoiaf related :)
This is my view, parts of the Dev team did a good job but let down by theme, story and mission design dev's.
@@liaminwales Exactly yes, as tends to be the case; it's all let down by terrible Writers and Directors
5:22 made me actually go: Telekinesis? Now, that's not half bad.
You got me!... Guess that's 10 push-ups for me.
Im so happy RUclips threw this video at me. Finally, I found someone who is as disappointed and mad at whatever this game throws at you. Almost everytime some lore gets dropped im absolutely malding. The world looks amazing, but thats the only thing that is actually good.
I just finished it and this is easily some of the worst writing I've ever seen in a game. I've read better Fanfiction lol
"sorry, my face is tired" xD god that never gets old
This whole game is "my face is tired" energy lol
As someone who played all of Dragon age Origins and dlc as well as read anything and everything in the game, I find this new one insulting. This has as much respect for the story and lore as the new Disney star wars. I believe the original dragon age they took over a year just writing lore before designing a game narrative set in the universe they created.
They actively hate Origins, or have never played it - nobody who worked on the thing is still at BioWare
Zevran would've been disgusted seeing what they did to his fearsome Crows.
