yes so many smart cultural references peppered in and out of story thematic moments that underscore specific ideas made the Big short fun and cool in ways that are independent from only characters and dialogue.
I loved being a part/ still being a part of this. Went $1.3k to $58k in about 2 weeks and been option trading ever since. Still holding my shares cause why not.

Plus seth is at least sometimes good in movies, even if i think hes a dirtbag irl.
Didn’t expect to like this as much as I did! Lots of fun moments, not too preachy with the info - memes tastefully integrated and the story stays shockingly true to life, down to recreating sets, keith’s costumes, and Keith’s speech in detail. No brands or big names are hidden here - RUclips live and youtube studio are shown on screen as well as popular tik tok dance songs of the time, all building up a layered world of the film that makes it serve as kind of a time capsule for this mind boggling post pandemic story. Lots of fun banter between characters you come to love (and hate) - a few of the film’s jokes might be lost for people who weren’t chronically online during that time, but I appreciate the little winks and nods (like Pete Davidson’s character having to explain to their mom “I’m not a cat”). At a time when we were disconnected from each other, this event brought so many folks together and showed the power of the people - Dumb Money is a well captured and relatable david and goliath story.
Was kinda frustrated with the movie tbh. They made it seem like it was closing over $100 a share but it never closed above 86... just some continuity with realty issues.

For those who want context, GameStop was seen as the next "Blockbuster". It was an "outdated" and "rundown" business that was doomed to soon be bankrupt; especially in the wake of COVID-19 and digital game sales. However, researchers like Roaring Kitty (the protagonist of this movie) and Michael Burry (the guy who predicted the 2008 Market Crash and was the first to short the housing market) figured out that GameStop had a lot more going for it fundamentally, and that it was being way over-shorted. So, when they went in and showed others why, eventually enough people got in and the rest is history.

OK so I’m not a big Seth Rogen fan but I still watched the movie. Absolutely loved it. Enjoyed all the characters and seeing regular people winning.

It was a very engaging movie. Sad reality, that billionaires want people to stay where they are financially and will do anything to achieve that. No one gets charged and convicted. But it is still an inspiring movie.
