For me Ampero won on stock cabs, but maybe AxeFX by a hair then Ampero w/sea cow IRs. When I finally go 3rd party IRs , I’ll give them a look. Good demo
My feeling is that people are looking for a recreation of an amp. Which is the idea I started with, but ended up shifting my focus into making each unit sound the best I could by just trying everything. I started pursuit of that 5150 sounded and landed somewhere in the PowerBall area.
I used to get some great tones out of a crate half stack and a boss gt-8. The new stuff is so much better. If someone cant get a good tone out of the current and upcoming gen of these modelers.... then they need to just pay way out the @$$ for some high end tube amps and, cabs and 70 individual pedals.
The Ampero sounded killer. The Axe FX sounded pretty close with the Seacows IR, but the HX Stomp didn't really do it for me. Still pretty remarkable what a difference the IRs make
Amazing video & Seacow owes you a debt of gratitude. With respect to everyone’s opinion the Seacow IR made the 3 sound extremely close. Great video! Pay the man Seacow ;)
Agreed. I was pretty impressed with the Seacow IR used in this vid. Really sweetened up the HX Stomp. I have a Strymon Iridium, HX Stomp, Helix Rack, FM 3, and Axe 3 and based on this vid they can all clearly benefit from this IR. I thought the Ampero also sounded great even with the stock IR. I may have to check one out in person.
Great example of how IRs matter. And it’s not especially the case of one being better than the other. It’s the ability to find that specific IR for your amp sim to suit your needs that matters most
Weird, first time I thought the Ampero actually sounded the best in this example. Just odd sounds for the other two, the Ampero def sounded to me anyways the best.
Damn! Didn't pay much attention to this model on the Ampero... will definitely be checking it out! #somanyampmodels What gain / EQ settings did you set?
The HX was dull and muddy, AxEffects sounded great, and the Ampero was so close to the Ax most people wouldn't tell the difference. After considering all the comparison vids, I got the Ampero, not sorry, the only rig I didn't send back.
You cant adjust feel qualities like sag, so you're kind of stuck with whatever you get out of the box. Personally I never notice huge differences in feel, but it's definitely flatter and more SS feeling than an hx or axefx
Hi Taylor! Nice video,on my opinion the ampero beat them all with stock Ir and with the seacow too,a good full bad ass sound, the line 6 nota by a mile, and the ax FX III a more cleaner sound nota só thight as the ampero,ONLY my opinião,cheers guys
Thanks! 🤷♂️ I liked it. But of course you can tweak to your preference. I've been using the seacow friedman AND a mesa v60 121 cab lately, which helps fill out the low end.
Weird that Helix sounds so bad here, i played around with placater dirty with a york audio impulse instead and the tone i got was much closer to what the Axe was putting out here
I surprised specially how the HX Modeling sounds when you put and IR, most of the times them sounds a lot better And for the fractal and hotone both with the stock IRs sounds very great
Just wanna make a request Taylor. Once upon a time i had a Line6 PodXT live that was using to play guitar through and at one point got bored of it , thought the sound was too digital and crap (and it was), got rid of it and turned to tube amps. I now have a Peavey valveking and a Bugera 333xl infinium head (100 and 120 watt) through a vintage 212 harley benton. I have been happy with that, mostly with the bugera but i cannot say i dont look at the HX Stomp with a lust filled look. That said, on this video , using stock IR, the ampero was the best sounding for me. When you switched to the 3rd party IR all the modellers sounded almost the same. That is the case with all the modellers I think. the IR seems to be the most important thing in the equation.. SO ! I PROPOSE : Try out the way that I (and many others) would use these modellers. Remove the cab simulation, hook them up to a power amp, run em through a real life cab and record that with a mic. Dont try to make the modellers sound the same. have them sound as best as you can. Try out a few metal high gain amp models. That would be extremely useful at least for me. sorry for the wall of text and thank you for the great content . keep it up
🙌 I'm sure I could do something like that. It's hard though because if I bump the microphone, it can throw the whole thing off and then the results could vary, vs using the same IR it takes that out of the equation. Not a bad idea though, I'll think it over!
The volume of the axe fx 3 isolated track was 2-3 dbs lower then helix, or ampero. Or at least it sounded like that. Louder always wins in a tone comparison bc of the whole fletcher Munson curve. Lol Other then that great video 🤘🏼
Ampero sounds scooped as fuck with the stock IR but comes shockingly close when comparing them all with the same IRs. It's jsut really great for the price.

I think too many of the responses below suffer from confirmation bias, i.e. "Whatever I CHOSE, sounds better" syndrome,. I have all 3. In the Mix it wasn't close on the stock. AXe was the most realistic and amp-like, HX Stomp was a close 2nd, and the Ampero sounded like a facsimile, like "yep that's a modeller" and it faded into the background. The Seacow IR closed the gap in the mix a little, but more by bringing the Axe and HX back, to where the Ampero was, than bring it forward. This still holds true in the DI. Though amps alone, on the Seacow, the Axe was all by itself as best, most realistic, with HX and Ampero behind a bit, HX slightly better.
Man... that HX cab was way different than the rest. Much more AIC, much less straight up metal but it had it's own flavour which was nice. Overall, they all nail it, especially when given the custom IR. I really dig the tunes Taylor, very AIC-ish, Jerry Cantrell the 2nd? Another awesome video my man. \m/
@@TaylorDanley Just got that Ampero plus a G7 and an OM10 Mark III with a few lenses to start recording properly. Hmmm...Sounds like there's a funky eq on the HX...too much bxy mid range... I had the HX Stomp and it sounded almost as good as my Kemper (Seriously).. If the HX Stomp could power a cab, I would have kept it. ANyways, if the eq was adjusted like the other 2 units, the sound comparison would be close imho. Great tones.
the helix had some almost HM2 high mid grind going on. very odd. the ampero continues to impress. in almost all comparisons i've heard so far it has a really nice airy top end. in terms of cheap modellers it's hard to beat, and it also completely wrecks the value proposition of used pod HDs and such.
I saw this the other day when I was checking out the ge250. I wish they did a better job of rolling out updates, and communicating that to their customers
Thank you for the Shootout , it looks to be very untainted. Too many fake videos these days to make something sound better than it is. Zoom G11 vs The Ampero , even though the Zoom is more $$, could you please do a shootout, if possible. Sincerely, B.

Fractal
I just run the DI out from my interface into the units.

For my tastes, that Ampero absolutely blows the other two away
It does mate. The ampero is king. And at that price it is a no brainer
2:39 that Hotone actually sounds damn good.
