    Visegrad Group or V4 - Czech, Hungarian, Polish and Slovak alience, now very active in EU politics. Yes, exacly in this castle it was firstly erected, when kings lived there ofc. ;)

    • @MooseheadDrinker
      @MooseheadDrinker 7 лет назад +1

      V4 will resist the Islamic invasion of Europa!!!!!

    • @Dziki_z_Lasu
      @Dziki_z_Lasu 7 лет назад +2

      MooseheadDrinker The main goal of V4 is rather to be the serious power in EU politics. With 65 milion people Visegrad is as big as France. Rejection of migrant quotas is only possible because of it, but I think the biggest conflict between V4 and EU is "Europe of nations" vs. "Europe as nation" point of view.

    Your phone should have a passive app to count your steps. When we were in Poland last June, some of us on the tour were comparing our steps on our phones at the end of the day. Most of our time was spent walking.

    Nice video. I'm going to Budapest for new years. How expensive was the city? For daily meals and so on

    • @FeatherandtheWind
      @FeatherandtheWind  8 лет назад

      It can be as expensive as you want it to be! We try to avoid touristy shops/restaurants and opt for local street food and cooking at our apartment when we can. But, in general, it is less expensive than capital cities in western Europe. Have a great New Years :)

    LOL csillag (chill-ugh) means star. Its the same thing as a shuriken just a bit bigger. If you ever plan to visit Hungary again, I highly recommend the north coast of lake Balaton (Tihany,Balatonfüred) in the summer (last two weeks of July is the high season, so the best) . The water is really good there, full of people, parties, and a good clean neighbourhood.

    • @FeatherandtheWind

    Do you find that many people speak English there? Can you get around easily? I always found Hungary to be challenging since the language is so unique compared to any other European language.

    • @sameoldsenti9625
      @sameoldsenti9625 8 лет назад

      To be honest, much less people speak english in Hungary, than in the West European countries. If you are in Budapest, it will be much easier to find somebody who speaks. Outside of the capital, its a bit harder, but the people are very kind everywhere even if they don't speak english. I'm sure you won't have any serious issue because of the language.
      Yeah, hungarian is pretty unique language. One of the most comlplicated in the world, we are really proud of it.
      Thank you guys for this videos. I love to see my home like this. Even if you are making me homesick. :D
      Enjoy your time in Hungary.

      Can Hungarians understand some Estonian?

    • @remekficko
      @remekficko 8 лет назад

      pbutter237 no, we can't

    • @nuckingfuts4721
      @nuckingfuts4721 8 лет назад

      No we do not speak any English at all. Currently I am typing random letters on the keyboard and it is mere coincidence that said letters are forming a more or less coherent sentence in English. Huh, weird.
      Jokes aside, no, Hungarians can't understand Estonian or Finnish (or even Khanti or Mansi for that matter - its closest known relatives). Hungarian is approximately as close to Finnish or Estonian as Enlish is to, say Russian (possibly even less so). Hungarian is a language isolate in this sense, and we (its native speakers) have no idea what it's like to hear another language that we can roughly understand.

    • @FeatherandtheWind
      @FeatherandtheWind  8 лет назад

      +pbutter237 It's easy to find English speakers in Budapest but as we start to visit some of the smaller cities, there's more miming and charades needed to communicate. Wes understands a bit of Hungarian but I'd say it's still manageable for tourists to get by!

    Visegád became very important when King Charles Robert hosted a royal congress with the kings of Poland, Bohemia and Hungary, which resulted in an extensive alliance against the Austrian Habsburg influence and several contracts regarding inheriting each others' country in case they die without an heir(that's how Charles' son Louis the Great became Polish king as well).
    That very congress was the forefather of today's V4(The four of Visegád=Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary) Group that is currently very active in the EU mostly by opposing the idiotic decisions of Brussels.
    Also funfact: when King Matthias refurbed and extended the Castle in Renessaince style, one of the fountains was made so it would pump the king's favourite wine.
    Also the pallets(that wooden thingy) was used for public humiliation not for chopping bits off you: you would get locked up on the town square and ppl would throw rotten eggs and other things at you... 😁
    Hope you guys had a fab time exploring my dear country!
