  • Szentendre is a charming little town that's easily reachable from Budapest and is a must visit place if you plan to spend a longer vacation in Hungary!
    In this video we'll show you why you should take a day in your itinerary and visit Szentendre!
    The town is located north of Budapest and can be easily reached by the suburban railway line H5 (starting from Batthány tér). Please note that Budapest tickets and passes are not valid for the full duration of the trip and an extension ticket needs to be purchased from the vending machines at the stops in Budapest (ticket for the travel between Békásmegyer and Szentendre). These extension tickets must also be validated on the trains, so don't forget that :)
    Szentendre has a unique vibe compared to other Hungarian towns since it flourished during the times when Serbians settled here in the medieval times, thanks to that there are many nice colorful houses, cute little alleys, a classic old town square and nice cathedrals and churces.
    In Szentendre you should just take your time and explore the labyrinth like inner town, walk through the alleys and find cute places all around! Have a few snacks like Lángos, Palacsinta, or visit the Marzipan Museum where the famous Szamos brand started it all! And those who walk across town to the north will also get to experience a peaceful little Japanese garden.

    we went there today on a rather hot day (33+C) since we're leaving for Germany tomorrow and saw what we wanted to see in Budapest (many things thanks to your videos, especially the Labyrinth was great fun on a hot day! Don't turn on a flashlight in the dark, follow the rope on the wall. Spooky!) and had a great day in Szentendre. I would skip the Japanese garden next time, bit of a walk and wasn't that special (but had mosquitoes ;-) ) but you should add the Retro Design Muzeum which is a lot of fun. Things from the 60es and 70es, toys, household items, TVs and typewriters, a whole bunch of cars, really a fun place to visit.
    We also hit the Marzipan museum, well worth it, the Christmas store also has a museum of old decorations dating back to the 1800, all their own collection.
    Nice to sit on the main square for drinks and some small bites to eat, it was too hot for a big meal. Glad I found out about this little town from your videos and so many other helpful tips from many of your other uploads, super helpful!

I assume he trip is longer by boat, but where can I find information on that? Perhaps then take the HEV back to Budapest. Now I will definitely visit Szentendre!...on a weekday.

    Do not go on winter time. Everything is closed- locked shops churches, cafe , its like a desert village. We didnt find a place to drink a cafe and we took the train back to Budapest. We went on 31 January '24

      Sad to hear you couldn't get a full experience. I guess its not only the winter time but also being the middle of the week. Most people go during weekends but since overall nr of visitors are much lower during winter, I guess not every place opens up during the weekdays. Thanks for Sharing!

    Thanks for all the cool content. How many hours do you think would be needed to see Szentendre?

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  3 дня назад

      Hey there! It depends on a lot of things and what a person wishes to do, their pace and how thorough you explore the town. I would say it's a day trip, so wouldn't plan anything major next to it, but it's doable to visit during daytime and head back to Budapest for the late afternoon / evening and still do other activities. Some people ask if Szentendre and Visegrád are doable in 1 day for example, but I would advise against that as it would be very fast paced and you'll miss a lot. Hope this helps 😊

    Hello 👋 i will come budapest in August, and i want to know if i make the weekly ticket, i must validate the ticket every time? And i want to ask if the bus and train are 24 hours in use? Thanks

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  Год назад +3

      Hey there! If you get a public transport pass like a weekly one you don't need to validate that every time, if you purchase the paper based pass you may need to show that to inspectors or bus drivers. Or if you get the pass within the Budapest Go app, you may need to scan a QR code and show to bus driver if needed. Single fare tickets need validation once boarding the vehicle. This is also applicable for the extension ticket for the train to Szentendre. Regarding 24 hour public transport, in Budapest there are special night services. But traveling to and from Szentendre during the late night hours can be very tricky so I would not plan with that. Last train back to Budapest leaves around 23:30.

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey there, it will be very tough to fit in Esztergom or Visegrád on the same day. It's easy to spend half a day there or even more. You can consider Szentendre as activities for the day and then head back to Budapest for late afternoon / evening activities 😊

    Can i do a 1/2 day morning, ie 7am to 2pm kind of day trip to Szentendre? As i would like to combine Szechenyi thermals bath when back to Budapest on the same day. Doable?

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  6 месяцев назад

      Technically you can do a quick tour of Szentendre, if you come during these colder months you won't be sitting outside at the riverfront, so you could fit a lot of not all into a half a day trip. The only thing I would raise perhaps is that Szechenyi becomes more and more crowded as the time goes on, so perhaps by the time you get there it may be a bit too crowded. But I don't say this to discourage you from visiting it, just trying to set expectations :)

    • @StuffedCabbageAdventures
      @StuffedCabbageAdventures  Месяц назад +1

      Hey there! Getting to Visegrad from Szentendre is not complicated, there is a Bus that goes between the 2 (takes about 50 mins one way). However it may be tricky to fit these two into 1 day of a program, would be very fast paced in my opinion and exhausting.

      @@glickyaron9490 hey there! There are multiple lines yes, some stop at more stations than others, but if you use Google maps to plan the travel it will tell you which numbered trains to look for and how long the travel takes. I see for example now that Z70 towards Szob goes ones every hour and takes about 40 mins to get From Nyugati to Nagymaros-Visegrád station 😊
