    I recently bought the Salomon Advanced Skin 5 Set-which has very similar sizing, I’m sure-the 12L just has more room in the pockets but doesn’t necessarily fit bigger. I originally ordered a small because it was on sale and they didn’t have a medium. I was right on the edge between small and medium, but went with the small. I ended up having to send the vest back to the online shop because of a defect (the water bottle loops snapped off, which I dearly hope doesn’t occur again).
    They very quickly sent me back a new one (today) which I am VERY happy about and they replaced it with a medium as I requested. Honestly, I don’t think I’ve ever had that kind of service, especially ordering online. The medium, while not quite as form fitting, fits me much more comfortably and will still fit snug to the body. What this reviewer said about reaching the pockets easier with the medium is definitely true and it’s easier to get the water bottles fitting snug closer to the center of the chest where they should be; I also predict there will be less rubbing around the armpits, shoulders, and neck areas. Without even having run in the vest yet, I can attest that this review is definitely accurate. I will add though, that I think it’s super weird that this guy runs with the vest open in the front-I could never do that. I prefer it to be as snug as possible without being uncomfortable.

      Thankyou for the very informative comment Collin! We appreciate all your kind and positive words 🌟 Hahaha, yeah it is abit weird running with the vest open at the front, bouncing all over the place.. that footage was from a race where I had abit of rib pain and was also overheating so completely loosened the front for some more freedom. 🤣
      Glad to hear you had success in sizing up and also glad to hear that you received the most positive online shopping experience 🔥 If you don’t mind me asking.. where did you buy your vest from, was the replacement sorted directly by Salomon? Because this is some top tier customer service 🌟

    Thanks so much, I am about the same chest measurement as you (94cm) and was really in a dilemma which one to order online as the shops were sold out so I couldn't go in for a fitting try -- and I have to make an immediate decision lest I risk missing out on the Black Friday deal. So glad I tried searching for this on RUclips, you've put my mind at ease now just just order Medium instead of Small!!!

      @@ActiveIdeas still pondering on the sizing but leaning towards to small. The medium almost touches when there’s less in the back so I think the small might be a better option. I’ve done the pocket test and that’s good in both of them.

      Sounds like the small is a great choice if it passed the pocket test! It’s funny how indecisive we can be but these vests are super important so I guess that’s why it’s important to get it right 🌟

      To anyone buying the 2022 12 Set the measurements have changed.
      The XL (which I wear as a 5 ft 9 man with 42 chest and 33 waist) was 42 inch plus. It's now 43 plus which does make a little difference.

    Very helpful, thank you! I'm still contemplating whether to get the 5l or 12l version. The 5l would probably be enough for me for now, but the extra storage might be useful someday. If you strap the back completely down without something in it, does it flop around when running?

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  2 года назад +2

      With the pack’s so ‘close to skin’ and cleverly shaped design even when I have it half full nothing seems to flop around. I was a bit hesitant getting this pack especially due to durability concerns but I’ve quite literally battered it for 2 years now, washed it at high temperatures and it’s still going strong. If you’re racing at a high level or all your gear is expensive-lightweight items I’d say 5L! But if you’re mid-pack like me, just looking to finish the distance strong then I recommend 12L as you can pack a few extra safety items.

      Definitely get the 12.
      I have used the 12 fully loaded and with nothing but 1 flask of water and a jacket.
      It runs very well!
      You 'may'want to go for the new model.
      The side through pockets are easier to reach mid run and there is a new top of pack pocket you can use for an extra jacket etc

    • @collinrymer424
      @collinrymer424 Год назад +1

      I was also considering getting the 12L, but I have another pack (Decathalon) that is a 10L and it’s more than enough storage even for longer runs. I decided to get the Salomon Adv. Skin 5L, and it’s definitely is enough for the majority of what I’ll be doing-even for substantially longer distances (I’m not quite at the ultra level yet, though; my max has been about 60K). Although I haven’t run much with it, as I just got it, I’ve packed a lot of what I would normally take on an adventure, maybe more, into the pack at home to test the storage: two jackets, hats, gloves, a headlamp, energy gels, my phone, and an extra layer, and had more than enough room to spare. The beauty is that all the pockets stretch a lot, so you can really maximize storage. I’m trying to go more minimalist, so went with the smaller capacity. It’s perfect for mid to relatively long distance runs, even unsupported. The packs have essentially all the same features. I think the 12 only has one extra (zip) pocket and the main pocket is larger. And yes, the pack stays in place really well even when not loaded. You could use it just for food and water if you wanted-I probably will a lot of the time.

    great review! I want to carry compact mirrorless camera like fujifilm x100v sometimes. Do you recommend 5L or 12L?

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  2 года назад +1

      Hey mate! 5L would be fine for shorter endurance runs & a compact mirrorless if you want to save pennies however I can’t imagine it leaving much room for much else. If you need space for lots of nutrition, jumper, waterproofs, first aid kid, head torch, etc, then definitely 12L.
      Also, Thinking about it I wouldn’t want the camera directly on my back, the packs are very next-to-skin feeling. With 12L you could wrap your camera in a jumper (or two) protecting you and the 📸.
      Hope this helps!

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  Год назад +1

      By the sounds of it you’re someone who would genuinely fit into both. I think medium will be more comfortable and offer you more flexibility (can be worn over coats and jackets too). Small would have been fine but you might not have had much adjustment. All the best mate 🌟

  • @blackbke
    @blackbke 5 месяцев назад +1

    My chest is like 87cm with a running shirt to about just under 90cm with a running jacket. I figure that S would suit me best then?
    According to Salomon sizing guide I end up as XS (85-91 cm) but that's probably going to be too cramped.

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah, I highly recommend you avoid the XS and go for the Small unless you’re a pro runner. Both will probably fit but the S will give a more comfortable and versatile fit ❤️Mikaela and Abie from this channel (ladies with smaller frames) have both used my Medium pack with no issues. It’s easier to fit a larger Salomon pack than it is to squeeze into a smaller one 🌟 All the best mate

    • @ActiveIdeas

      Hey mate if you can find a good deal on these vests just go for it no matter what the size is. However even for beginners I suggest the ADV Skin 12L size. This is because it’s comfortable to wear whether it’s completely full or only half full/empty. By getting the 12L it’s a vest that will last you years soon you’re running journey and will cover distances from 10k up to about 100 miles 👍🏽 I hope my 2 pence advice helped 🌟

    I'm XL but right on the threshold between L and XL according to Salomon's website. I have a 43.5" (110cm) chest. I'm 5'11" and 200lbs (90kg).
    I've never worn an XL in any other garment so I'm concerned that the sizing is off and I'll end up with a lot of bouncing if I go with the XL. I'm also concerned that the L will be too small and will chafe. I'm normally a medium or large in clothing.
    Do you mind if i ask if you normally wear medium in clothing? Does the salomon sizing line up with your normal clothing size or is it a size up from what you normally wear?

    • @ActiveIdeas
      @ActiveIdeas  Год назад +1

      Awesome question mate. I usually wear size medium in clothing. I can fit into size small and own 15% of my stuff in small but it usually exposes my gut & broad shoulders haha. The main issue with sizing down was my lack of flexibility, the elbow angle to reach into the back of the pack pockets was far too intense. By sizing up I had more flexibility in the sizing, more comfort in the chest/shoulders and could reach into the back pockets with ease.
      I wouldn't worry about this pack bouncing no matter what size it is.. i dont even have to lace up the front straps and it stays very well situated.
      All this said, with your weight and height you MAY be okay in a large. If you have a thinner build large will be fantastic. If you're slightly broader shouldered and mesomorph like me then the elbow angle might be slightly aggressive.
      If you've never had XL in your life, definitely get the L. Test it on, if it's uncomfortable just return and size up but you should be good 👍
      All the best mate and good luck with your adventures 🌟
