Purchased the active skin 8 around a year ago now based on your previous video when I saw it on sale. Used it quite a lot over the last few months and absolutely love it, very comfortable even when its hot out and plenty of storage.
That's great to hear Adam! Really glad you're enjoying your running vest and thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊

Running vests are just as personal as shoes. It's one of those things that really hard to pick off the internet. I'd love to give the Harrier vests a try, but returns from the EU are a no-go currently. Because vests are so personal I just don't want to take a guess that might turn out wrong for me. I work with two vests really. The first one is my Salomon Skin 12 and the second one is my Nathan Vaporkrar 2.0. The Vaporkrar is the best vest I have ever owned bar none. The thing is like it's made for me. The only downside it only has a 4L storage compartment. That makes packing it for long mountain trails really hard. That's where the Salomon Skin 12 comes in. That carries all mandatary gear easily. And love the Tardis reference :)
Yes sorry its a bit of a pain with that, but if you did want to send in your measurements we have a pretty good idea what fits people so can have a try to sort you out if you'd like :)
@@harrier_trail_running Yeah, I know. I've emailed you about it in the past. I'm not worried about sizing. I'm worried about fit and feel. Having said that, I bought my Nathan pack just based on internet reviews as well. Who knows. I'd just love to support smaller companies.
Really glad you've found two vests that work well for you 👍 There seems to be a lot of love for the Nathan vests, I'll have to check them out 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure It's just the Vaporkrar 2.0 that works really well for me. Just beware of the sizing. Follow Nathan's sizing instructions closely, even if you end up ordering a Small. For reference; I wear M/L from Salomon.
Glad you like the intro Colin 👌 That's great that you enjoyed the video and found it helpful. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
Thanks so much for this video! I’ve been trying to figure out which Salomon vest to purchase that will be compatible with the Salomon quiver I already have. I just ordered the Advanced Skin 12 - excited to start training in it for my upcoming first 50 miler!
No problem, thanks for watching 👍 Really hope you enjoy your Advance skin 12 set, it's a great running vest! Best of luck with your up and coming race 😊
Thanks! I just bought a vest like you described your old one, limited pockets... No phone holder, no flasks 😅 Taking back to store and buying a Salomon 8 aktive skin
Awesome Ivan, I'm glad the video helped you out. The Active 8 from Salomon is a great running pack, hope you enjoy it and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
Glad you enjoyed the video 👍 I've heard good things about the Nathan running Vests/packs, I'll have to give them ago 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Any chance you could do a review on the current model of the Salomon Adv Skin 12 running vest. I have one that's a few years old, a friend has one about a year old and the attachments, bungies, pockets have changed. Plus the sizing system seems to be different to my one (I think mine was definitely an older model). Thanks for your videos, great help
Hi John There's already a full review of the Advance Skin 12 set and the Active 8 set on the channel 👍 Active 8 set - ruclips.net/video/tH8NkG34psk/видео.html Advance Skin 12 set - ruclips.net/video/NZx_CX093a4/видео.html Hope you find these useful and thanks for watching the channel it's really appreciated 🙏😊
Really like my Nathan VaporAir 7L. If you remove the bladder, and run with bottles/flasks, you have more than enough storage for a 50 miler. The main pocket is actually multiple pockets with a zip and the big one but openings at the top that you can just pull your jacket out of. It has tons of storage options.
Nathan make a pretty solid pack/vest these days Christopher, I'm glad you are enjoying yours 😊 I've never actually run in a Nathan vest, maybe I should get one to try? Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Will you do one for bumbags (US fanny packs - lol)? I got the Harrier 5l from your review and use that for carrying kit on long holiday runs. It's too much /too hot for half-marathon trail runs or fast stuff were I might want to carry, phone a wind / rain shell and maybe 200m water. I was thinking to add a bumbag from OMM / Montane etc
@@harrier_trail_running Great. I'll check it out. a 1.5 - 2l that can cinch down is good for me. If it can carry a small fuji xt30 camera, all the better but thats quite heavy - perhaps too much
I've got to be honest I'm not a fan of the Bumbag running belt system! I think it's a bit dated and not the comfortable to run with. Having used them in the pass I found that having all the weight in the bag on the back you get to much movement when running. I've found the belts like Compressport Free belt pro or the Naked belts, fit better, no movement because you can evenly distribute the weight, run more comfortable and you can sill fit a lot of kit in them 😊 Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
No worries: we runners sure apreciate a good old breathable advice! Poles have become a must have for me, since that day I tackled a 25K +1000m D+ trail run, and ended devastated with cramps... Thing is, I have a 5L pack, and they just fit inside it enough to not going all the way smacking the back of my head. I can take them off the pack easily, but I always have to stop, take the pack off, and carefully place them back in, without damaging the pack and whatever is inside also. Solution would be a quiver, and since I'm going for my first Ultra - a 55K 2500 D+ trail in Northeastern Portugal - I'm also not sure the 5L can do the job in a smooth way during the run. Suggestions from all you guys? Breathable greets from Portugal!
I'm glad to hear that Daniel 😂 Poles definitely help when you are running a hilly or mountainous race, they take a bit of pressure of the quads and lower back 👍 Obviously cramping can be caused by a lot of different things, fatigue, dehydration, electrolyte in balance as well 🤔 A 5ltr vest would definitely offer enough storage for that type of distance. The Sense Pro 5 set has loads of storage and you can attach Salomons pole quiver to it. Also it might be worth looking at the packs with the up front pole carrying systems, like the Harrier Kinder and the Ultimate Direction mountain vest. Hope this helps and thanks for watching and supporting the channel 🙏😊
@@Run4Adventure thanks for the tips Loyd! I'm currently at an "OK, now I'm really getting into running!" stage, and gear upgrading has been on the list since last year. This Kalenji 5L pack sure delivered with no complaints so far, so my doubt for stepping up to an ultra with it relies only with pocket availability, and this little "put the poles back in the pack" issue. Thanks again for the attention and keep it up!
The Curbar 5 is a great little running vest Kate. Really comfortable, well made, loads of storage and all for a great price! Really glad you're enjoying your vest and I hope you are recovering well. Thanks for the support 🙏
Great advice Loyd, not easy to find guides on vests/packs and the information you give is spot on with the experience I have with them. One think that never gets mention is sometimes the pack connectors rub on my T-Shirts not sure if that relates to the quality of the running pack/vests or just a negative of running with one.
Thanks Michael, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 👍 Unfortunately rubbing on our kit is just one of the hazards of running with a pack and it's hard to avoid! I've found some packs/vests are better but it happens with most. Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
Good summary of the options and essentials Loyd. I have the older generation Sense Lab 5 set (which is brilliant) and the 2021 Adv Skin 12 set, plus the Salomon pole quiver. The two issues I have (and it's funny you mentioned bottle fit) is that none of the Salomon bottles fit very well in the 12 set. It came with two of the soft bottom types but I also have 4 of the torpedo types from Salomon and all of them are a just a bit too short. This means that the material at the top the bottle pocket on the 12 set keeps riding over the lid of the bottle and I find it really annoying! I don't get that issue in the 5 set at all. The other issue is that whilst it works really well, I find the pole quiver really rubs and wears the vest it's against (usually the 12 set) pretty alarmingly.
I've never had an issue with bottle fit in any of my Salomon vest Ian, especially the Advance 12 set? 🤔The bottles can be a bit awkward to get back in once you've filled them and you've got the pockets full on the front of the vest but that's about it. The main reason the Advance 12 set is my go to vest is because nothing bothers me with it at all, I just put it on and go running and don't give it a thought! 😊 As far as the quiver I've used it loads of times with my 12 set in some long races and there's no sign of wear on my vest at all? Maybe you don't have it attached tight enough on your vest and it's moving around while you're running? 🤔
thanks for the video. any thoughts on colour especially black? is it a good choice for summer when water reservoir can easily get warm and generally the pack will generate more heat and sweat to the body. i'm looking to buyt Active Skin 4 after watching your other video but found in light sedon sage colour. thanks
Same here Gianni 👍 Salomon have lead the way when it comes to running pack/vest development and they make some great options. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Picked up the Nathan 7L mainly for durability and build quality. One of the other brands you mentioned (briefly) started falling apart after the first couple of runs and was completely trashed in a couple of weeks. I have done multiple ultras with the Nathan (take the bladder out for more mandatory kit room) and it has held up remarkably well.
That's good to hear that you're enjoying your Nathan pack 😊 I've never used one of their packs or vests before but I know they are getting more and more popular. Which brand and model did you have issues with 🤔 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure the pack I had issues with was the Ultimate Direction FKT. I tried to contact customer service (multiple attempts) but never heard back.
It looks like a really good running vest Stu 👍 Very comfortable on, lots and lots of accessible pockets. I hoping to have the first impressions review up on Halloween 😉
Thanks for the review, I have never run in a pack, always a vest but its good to know the difference. I have the Salomon Skin 8 for short and light runs where not a lot of space is necessary. As for long runs and especially on elevation, I have this new, as rare to find as a pearl, vest Rossignol's Running R-Exp 10L. Great fit as you have a BOA like wheels to adjust so it is way so easy to manage (in addition to a lot of storage compartments and build quality). I am curious to checkout Saysky's and Harrier's vests as well, thanks for referencing them Lyod!
No problem Naim, thanks for watching! The Salomon skin 8 still has a fair amount of storage in it. I used to have one and I ran a couple of 100 milers with it 👍 Your other packs sound very similar to the Raidlight vests. I'm not sure about the BOA system though because it takes away the option of a big side pocket 🤔 Thanks for supporting and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated Naim 🙏
love my harrier kinder 10l. only thing i'd have to complain about is the name, as "kinder" translates to children in german. recently i had to explain mid-run that i don't plan on carrying a baby around with it. but besides that it's pretty much perfect.
I hadn't thought about that 😂 I'm glad you're enjoying the kinder vest even if you do have to explain things now and again! Hope you're fit and well and thanks for all the support 🙏
On my 50 miler this year I used the Camelbak Ultra Pro vest. It served me well but I couldn’t help feel that it wasn’t quite perfect. Doing the same race again next year I look forward to exploring some of the vests you’ve shared
My first running back was from Camelbak and it was terrible! To be fair that was a long time ago and I'm sure they run a lot better now 😊 Maybe have a look at the Salomon Advance Skin 12 set. Its the best running vest I've used to date and it seems pretty popular in the Ultra running community 😊 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Great videos lately! I love a good shoe review, but the gear guides are incredibly handy. If you could do something similar on running jackets that would be amazing. As for the running vest, having a zip pocket for my phone is a must. It stops me worrying I’ll lose it for some reason mid run.
That's great Ellie, really glad you enjoying the Content on the channel. Totally agree, It's always good to have one zip pocket on your vest or pack just for added security 👍 We will be doing a waterproof running jacket buying guide on the channel soon so keep your eyes peeled. Great video Loyd, what would be your favourite pack/vest for a 50k/50mile race or event, really like the look of the inov8 pro 5, looking forward to seeing your review of it 👍🏻
I would probably use my trusty Salomon Advance 12 set just because its so comfortable to run in. The Inov-8 vest does look really interesting though I agree. I'm going to be getting out in it over the next few days and the review should be up on the channel soon 👍 Hope you are fit and well and thanks for watching and supporting 🙏
You actually leave the soft flasks in the pockets and drink from there. You only take them out to fill up and when the soft flasks are ful with water they're easy to get back in the pockets. I'd always use soft flasks because they stop the water sloshing around while you're running. Hope this helps Nigel and thanks for watching 🙏😊
Great guide Loyd, thanks for that. I know you’ve used Compress Sport running belts (I noted you picked up the UTMB edition this year in that chequered design!) in the past, what’s your opinion on the Ultra run S pack vest as it has a premium price of £160 and looks quality? Thanks.
Thanks Alexandre, really glad you enjoyed the video. That looks like a pretty solid pack, glad you're getting on with it 👍 Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Fuji Lite 2 vs Torrent 2. Which is the better daily trail running shoe? And are there any other daily trail running shoes that compare with these two shoes that come in around 9 oz for size 9?
I haven't run in the ASICS Fuji light 2 so it's impossible to compare the two? I can say if you're looking for a light weight daily trail shoe, the Torrent 2 is a very consistent performing shoe. Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
Hey Lloyd. Nice video. That Saloman Adv skin 12 looks good. What size do you have? I am around same height as you and around 13.5 - 14 stone. Not sure which to opt for.. Cheers

Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video 😊 I've never been a fan of their vests for the longer stuff because they don't have a lot of accessible storage. However for something like marathon distance that doesn't really matter as much so I'm sure it would work. Their running vests are well made and very comfortable but be careful because they do size up very small! Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊

I am thinking more about trail running and maybe a half marathon by the end of 2024 Any advice will be much appreciated

@@Run4Adventure Thoroughly enjoy them. I’m only starting to get into trail running (*cough*peer pressure*cough*), so these videos are a god send for informative advice. Keep it up.
Relatively new to doing longer trails. I got a 15 l running pack from decathlon(size XL). I usually use it for all my long runs. The straps have small velcro straps so you can roll them up. It’s kind of a stretchy material so stuff usually doesn’t bounce around a lot. It fits me quite well and i can easily fit my equipment in. I used it for my 40k 2400m elevation run in mountainous terrain( my longest run to date). I’m hoping the longer runs will not be canceled again was planninga 50 and 58 k ultratrail this year. The main reason I bought it is I live next to a decathlon shop( 5 min walking). I could try them on and the price is only about 50€. For other brands it would have been mostly impossible to try them where i live. It’s mostly ordering from the internet to get kit.
Some of the decathlon kit is actually pretty good for the money Matt 👍 Glad you've found something that works well for you and good luck with your training and racing! Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏

That's good to hear that you're enjoying your Nathan pack 😊
I've never used one of their packs or vests before but I know they are getting more and more popular. Which brand and model did you have issues with 🤔
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure the pack I had issues with was the Ultimate Direction FKT. I tried to contact customer service (multiple attempts) but never heard back.
@@Michael-hc3ft
Oh ok that's a shame they didn't sort it out for you 😔
There's nothing worse than poor customer service!
Looking forward to the review of the Inov8 Ultra Pro 5, considering that for next years South West Traverse.
I used to have one and I ran a couple of 100 milers with it 👍
Your other packs sound very similar to the Raidlight vests. I'm not sure about the BOA system though because it takes away the option of a big side pocket 🤔
Thanks for supporting and taking the time to comment it's really appreciated Naim 🙏
love my harrier kinder 10l. only thing i'd have to complain about is the name, as "kinder" translates to children in german. recently i had to explain mid-run that i don't plan on carrying a baby around with it. but besides that it's pretty much perfect.
I hadn't thought about that 😂
I'm glad you're enjoying the kinder vest even if you do have to explain things now and again! Hope you're fit and well and thanks for all the support 🙏
Buy it a size down if youre in between
On my 50 miler this year I used the Camelbak Ultra Pro vest. It served me well but I couldn’t help feel that it wasn’t quite perfect. Doing the same race again next year I look forward to exploring some of the vests you’ve shared
My first running back was from Camelbak and it was terrible! To be fair that was a long time ago and I'm sure they run a lot better now 😊
Maybe have a look at the Salomon Advance Skin 12 set. Its the best running vest I've used to date and it seems pretty popular in the Ultra running community 😊
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure thanks for the reply!
Totally agree, It's always good to have one zip pocket on your vest or pack just for added security 👍
We will be doing a waterproof running jacket buying guide on the channel soon so keep your eyes peeled. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its really appreciated 🙏
I'm going to be getting out in it over the next few days and the review should be up on the channel soon 👍
Hope you are fit and well and thanks for watching and supporting 🙏
How does getting soft bottles back in the pockets against hard bottles? In the market for a vest for some marathon training.
@@Run4Adventure Thank you for your fast response and advice.
What are the running books behind you?! Recommend any?
I’d definitely recommend “Born to Run” and “Feet in the Clouds” if you haven’t already read them 👍
Good vid, thanks 👍
Thanks John, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 🙏☺️
Great guide Loyd, thanks for that. I know you’ve used Compress Sport running belts (I noted you picked up the UTMB edition this year in that chequered design!) in the past, what’s your opinion on the Ultra run S pack vest as it has a premium price of £160 and looks quality? Thanks.
Great vídeo... I have a 8L from Aonijei. Veeeery good, I love It!!!
Thanks Alexandre, really glad you enjoyed the video. That looks like a pretty solid pack, glad you're getting on with it 👍
Thanks for watching the channel and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
Cheers
Thanks Phil, glad you enjoyed the video. I wear a medium, I've got a 38-40" chest and I weight around 12 stone 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching the channel 🙏
I like my hydration vest it avoids/ reduces single use plastic bottles. I think its the way forward.
It's definitely the way forward Alison! Thanks for watching the channel and I hope you enjoyed the video 🙏😊
Running packs for communiting to/ from office- also interesting topic now...need smth who can accomodate laptop
I totally agree 👍
More and more people are run commuting to work these days. It's a hard thing for me to discuss on the channel because I don't have to do it and I've never commuted with a running pack on? 🤔
Thanks for watching and supporting the channel its appreciated 🙏
Hi Loyd great video ...what do you think about Raidlight vests? Like for exemple the Revolutiv 65g 2l for a marathon? 👍👏👏😁🇨🇵
How about USWE vests?
Great video
I smashed the Like button!
Cheers Chad! 👍
Thanks for watching mate 😊
Hey brother, I’m 41 years old and 286 pounds or 130kg heavy, I am starting to run in the first of January of 2024 and the goal is to get back to the habit of running every day like I used to.
I am thinking more about trail running and maybe a half marathon by the end of 2024
Any advice will be much appreciated
Your videos are great but up until the 10:00 mark, I thought this was a Salomon ad.
I'm not sure why you thought this? In the first 10mins I show SAYSKY, Harrier and Salomon packs and vest. This is definitely not a Salomon advert but I am a fan of their running vests and packs 👍
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏
@@Run4Adventure After this morning, I just happen to be another fan of Salomon packs. Just picked up the Active 4 pack.
Thank you!
No problem Kevin, thanks for watching the channel 🙏😊
That sense 5 pro set looks so dope, but I can't find it to buy :(
It was a limited edition colourway so Salomon might have sold out? 🙁
Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
Awesome😁🙏
Glad you enjoyed the video Velin. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it's appreciated 🙏😊
What is the best running backpack in 2022?
There's a new Salomon Advance 12 set coming out soon. Hopefully I can get hold of one and review it on the channel, it looks pretty good 👍
Hope this helps and thanks for watching 🙏
Great videos
Thanks Martin, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 🙏😊

No worries Raheel, thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video 🙏😊

Thoroughly enjoy them.
Some of the decathlon kit is actually pretty good for the money Matt 👍
Glad you've found something that works well for you and good luck with your training and racing! Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏
I got the same vest I guess? It's called the Evadict 15L vest. I just recently bought but I have a hard time figuring out where to fit my poles. Can you help me out. I love the quality of materials used it. Fits amazing to me and I can't wait to try it on the trail
Brilliant👌
