Ern, you’re worth a lot more than a slew of TV commercials and print ads to Southwest. You embody the soul of a great American airline and are a tremendously valuable resource to Southwest. I know they must be thrilled to have you as a spokesman and Captain.
Ern is worth it and has earned ANY and all fruits that emerge from life’s tree. Spokesman.. Captain.. whatever.. take it all.

After I see the incredible amount of training required to be a commercial airline pilot through your vlog, it just drives me crazy when politicians say all the airlines need to do to fix the pilot shortage is hire more pilots, like any Joe off the street can do it. It take a special person with dedication to their profession to be airline pilots. Thanks Captain!

You really have to love flying to deal with all the micromanagement involved in this profession. You are one hundred percent correct about that dedication to being a professional pilot though. The sad part is it's a job and like any other job people get burned out and lazy, that's what has to be dealt with in a profession where many lives depend on you being your best physically and mentally at all times.People handle the stress differently and are quite happy in this position, they are the lucky ones! I think this Captain is top notch and professional all the way around!

One thing I have noticed in this gentleman's videos, have you ever had a single negative vibe being given off? That's a surefire clue on how to move forward in a career and life in general. Pay attention. There is more to learn than just aviation folks. You reap what you sow. You'll always get back more than you put out, whether it is good or bad.

I laughed so hard at "Don't see who can get the most air going down the slide". Then I remember "Some guys get carried away" when talking about the combat simulator. The last thought is that oh yeah, this is all pilots we're talking about here. Pilots will literally come up with something new you didn't even think was possible to get hurt doing.

My sister in law is currently in flight attendant class in Dallas, and I am excited to hear her stories. Thanks again for such a great vlog. I've recently gone back to school (in a totally different industry) and it does take some adjustment. But guess what? Enthusiasm easily beats rustiness. Motivation gets you through!!
Congrats again on the upgrade! Seeing the inside of the buildings is always cool to see. Some take it for granted, I still get all the goosebumps when I go into the flight academy on the other side of Dallas 😉. Fly safe and keep up the great content!

I have been looking forward to this video and you did an outstanding job with your overview of the training facility and what new hires can expect. I am not a pilot but I am an aviation enthusiast with a lot of time on flight sim. I am also a retired adult education specialist in curriculum development and instructor training. Everything you have shared here is spot on, in regard to great tips to be successful student. From choosing a good hotel room to the need for exercise and above all the necessary bonding with your classmates. Thank you for the tour of the excellent training facility. Brought some great memories back as I had the opportunity to "fly" TWA's 747 simulator at JFK back in the early 80's (a friend of mine was a flight engineer on a 747 and got me in after his annual training one afternoon.) Amazing experience that I'll never forget. Anyway, awesome job Captain!!

There are a lot of old guys like me who aren't much good for anything beyond a trip around the pattern in a J-3. When I see today's technology even just for training let alone flying I know my brain is definitely not cut-out for modern commercial aviation LOL. But it sure is exciting and great fun to follow Captain Ern's flying and career. Thanks Ern. If you ever fly-in from PHX or wherever for the DEN-BOS or BOS-DEN gigs I hope to see you.

So glad you're finally on your upgrade training. Hope you get a chance to swing in and show us your Ops Center too! At my (now former) airline all upgrade captain trainees came and sat with us in dispatch and the rest of the OCC.

Congrats on the upgrade...thank you for the tour, it is interesting to see how other carriers have thier training departments set-up. You showed the cabin mock up video camera set up to record the sessions- does SWA record the pilot sim sessions for use in debriefs? It was a real eye-opener when our carrier introduced it for CRM...wish management types had the same exposure in just regular meetings...
