Listen to it at 13:08. It explains that it could be a B: or D: for example. So essentially you are looking for windows. If it doesn’t look like that on c: then you check the other letters until you find the right one.
Hi, I did all the steps in the video and the starting up logo is there and there is an infinite loop. Should I restart the pc or leave it there for a while?
This helped me when this message came up on a sysprep . Only thing to mention that was different was our system volume name was Esp instead of System for some reason. It wouldn't let us use System for the current volume label.
I am not the most tech savvy person so had two questions about this: 1. The windows installation media process says one of the requirements is a product key. Where do I get that? 2. By going through this process, will I lose the data in the C:/ drive of the affected PC (the SSD only has partition and Windows is installed there).
If it is asking you for a license then you went too far. You need to use the recovery tools which load well before it asks you for a key. Also, for #2 I would be very careful. If you watch my whole video, you will see that I lose no data but you have to follow it exactly. If you don’t, you could erase all of your data.
@@techextranetthanks for the clarification on #1. For #2 I am unable to understand how you are recovering your previous data. After burning the windows installation media on a USB, do I boot my problem laptop with the USB? And once I am done with the steps on command prompt, will I login regularly and get access to all my previous files? Sorry for so many follow-up questions. Just want to be absolutely certain I am following your instructions correctly.
It may mean that C is not really your operating system when you booted to the windows installation media. Try going to b: and do dir. or D: and dir. Whatever drive letter shows you the normal users folder and windows directory is what you are looking for.
@@techextranet Before this, I halved the Primary in partition during the installation and it says 'The partition on the disk selected for the installation is not in the recommend order' but I disregarded it and proceeded with the installation. @@techextranet So I was doing that but, it was more messed up. SO I had to rename the drives, then proceed. BUT YOUR VIDEO HELPED everywhere else !!!!!
That is the EFI system partition which tells the pc where windows is and how to boot. If you don’t have that then you may be using an older pc with mbr rather than UEFI boot.
Check the reserved one. That could be it. Follow the instructions first to view what is on it. If it looks like my video than you can proceed to assume it is the same.
Hey man, i think i messed up. I followed the entire video but without a cd/usb (kinda dumb of me), and then i shut down my computer and turn it back on, it shows me a different error screen this time (Black background, white fonts, and i can't go back to win10's error screen) with the error code of 0xc000000f( i assume it's the same as 0xc000098 but for like older computers?), though it is requiring me to use a disc for my windows installation but my computer disc player won't come out ( I am pretty sure it's broken). So would the installation still works if i plug in an USB with ISO files?
I would use another computer to build a proper usb with the operating system on it. Then boot to it and follow the steps. It should hopefully do the trick.

@@techextranet thanks for getting back to me that’s awesome! yeah I’ve been fighting this computer for a while. If it’s correct, I should just do a new one and put the Files back on but thanks for getting back to me.
I figured it out! I fixed it by using command prompt and inputing “sfc /offbootdir=C:\ /offwindir=C:Windows\” then exited and hit continue to windows and it eliminated the error, thought I would share in case somebody else comes across it!

This fix usually is all you need to fix it. If it keeps happening you may have a bad hard drive. You could try to run diagnostics for your model or even use Hirens BootCD to diagnose the disk. Just make sure to backup your data. You may also want to scan your pc for viruses.
This doesn’t delete data from inside windows but it helps you boot your pc if all hope is lost. You need to be very careful. If you can’t boot the machine before you follow the steps and have the exact error code, then the video should help. If you are not comfortable with it, ask someone else for help. The point is, if you can’t boot your pc anyways, this would help turn it on so you can get into windows. Always remember to backup your data before something like this occurs.
This video works on the partition of the hard drive that boots the computer. Usually it’s on the same disk where Windows is but on a separate partition.
It depends on what you mean. Does C contain your windows folder and users folder with your profile? Or does that show up in D. In other words, this does not repair a second disk, this video repairs your computer while it boots to the primary disk. If the orai Mary disk is D, then it will work. I held down the power button to force shut down, and when I tried restarting the system, I got that error message. Quite strange. If anyone else had any similar experiences, please let me know.
I have seen this issue happen with both viruses and just plain old corruption on the disk possibly from a bad shut down. The virus actually targets the location and modifies it so you can't boot. And in your case, it sounds like the forced power off may have corrupted it or it may have had issues when you were fixing the UEFI BOOT or switching to GPT. I’m glad my video helped!
This only fixed the error code listed in the title. It doesn’t remove any apps or data but you have to be careful with it. I would suggest only following the steps if you are comfortable with it or have some IT experience. I would also suggest making sure your data is backed up before doing anything. If you are not getting the same error code, I would not follow this video. Instead search for your actual error code.
So I need help It just happened to me and before I saw this vid I restarted the pc and now it’s not connecting to my tv and the hdmi cable is plugged in
It may be best to unplug the HDMI cable and plug it back in. Also, you can try to turn the tv off and back on. If still no go, you can try another monitor. As long as the pc turns on, it should still display something on the screen.
@@techextranet ok when I did the first step correctly but when I click on command prompt it ask 'choose your account', I click it and it ask me to put my password, I put it correctly and It saying that the password is wrong ,
Interesting, that means that your system does see windows properly. That login is usually the default admin on the machine. If you setup the machine fresh, it could be blank. It could also be an admin account that you made when you first set up the PC. It doesn't have to be the same account that you last used. Does that make sense? Also, if you do get to this login, and you reboot, do you still get the error? Just make sure that you get the 0xc0000098 multiple times and are not able to boot before proceeding.
I was so happy that everything was easy, but at last i hav only 1 partition 🤔and i got a long list of terms that i dont unterstand. I used a USB stick 30GB. Can you help me?
@@techextranet I created the stick as discribed, i assigned the letter "S" and i was successfully assigned - exit. Now is written: X:\windows\system> What can i do ?
You need to view the contents of S to make sure it is the right drive with S: dir You also need to find your actual files and actual windows files. One of the steps asked you to confirm what drive letter had your items. You will need to make sure to follow the video exactly. If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t proceed because I don’t want you to lose any data.
Well, this almost the same as the 0xc0000098 error. When you followed the steps, did you make sure to do the dir command to ensure you were picking the right drive? If not, you can do this all again and make sure that you use the proper letter for Windows. Meaning c:\windows doesn't have to be the path that your PC thinks windows is at. I would hunt down the drive and do something like dir c:\users or even b:\users or d, e, etc. When you boot to the windows media, it gives your windows drive whatever letter it chooses.
You will not lose any data if you follow the steps properly. The video shows you exactly how to repair the system and then how it boots right back up. The issue is, if you don’t feel comfortable with this, then be very careful. You can have someone else help you. Or you can try to backup your data first. Long story short, if you do any of the steps wrong, then you can possibly lose data but the video states exactly what to do to do it properly. We have followed these steps on many machines and we were able to bring them back to life without losing any data.
Make sure to backup your pc either way- just a reminder. Sounds like there could be some other major issues. At this point, you may need to take it to someone for repair but it’s possible you are not using EFI boot. You could try: bcdboot c:\Windows /s S: /f BIOS Or if that doesn’t work bcdboot c:\Windows /s S: /f ALL There a bunch of possible problems but this may do the trick.

I'll do what you said again and if it doesn't work I'll just send it over to the store. Thanks
@@zygmuntlllwaza5773 the biggest issue is just to make sure that you don't lose your data. If you don't have any important data on the computer, you can always install windows fresh. But if you do have important files on the PC, you can just try to follow the steps of the video again. The biggest thing is to make sure you do use the dir commands when I mention them to make sure you’re in the right location and using the right drive letter. Good luck!
That step requires two things to happen. Your s drive would have to be the proper volume. Also, it assumes that windows is on c. If you do: Dir c:\windows What pops up? If it exists, then the command should succeed if you are in “s” like my video shows.

@@techextranet its working all i had to do was take out the ram sticks, blow on them and put them back in

What do you mean?
@@techextranet I created the stick as discribed, i assigned the letter "S" and i was successfully assigned - exit. Now is written: X:\windows\system> What can i do ?
You need to view the contents of S to make sure it is the right drive with
S:
dir
You also need to find your actual files and actual windows files. One of the steps asked you to confirm what drive letter had your items. You will need to make sure to follow the video exactly. If you don’t feel comfortable, don’t proceed because I don’t want you to lose any data.
did this and now I’m getting a “boot device not found” error
Well, this almost the same as the 0xc0000098 error. When you followed the steps, did you make sure to do the dir command to ensure you were picking the right drive? If not, you can do this all again and make sure that you use the proper letter for Windows. Meaning c:\windows doesn't have to be the path that your PC thinks windows is at. I would hunt down the drive and do something like dir c:\users or even b:\users or d, e, etc. When you boot to the windows media, it gives your windows drive whatever letter it chooses.
Will my personal files will be there or will be deleted after this?
You will not lose any data if you follow the steps properly. The video shows you exactly how to repair the system and then how it boots right back up. The issue is, if you don’t feel comfortable with this, then be very careful. You can have someone else help you. Or you can try to backup your data first. Long story short, if you do any of the steps wrong, then you can possibly lose data but the video states exactly what to do to do it properly. We have followed these steps on many machines and we were able to bring them back to life without losing any data.
got all the way to bcd boot but resulted in failure when attempting to copy boot files
What was the exact error and at what (timestamp) point in the video?
@@techextranet "failure when attempting to copy boot files" - date stamp was 15:28 Thanks for any help!
Make sure to backup your pc either way- just a reminder.
Sounds like there could be some other major issues. At this point, you may need to take it to someone for repair but it’s possible you are not using EFI boot. You could try:
bcdboot c:\Windows /s S: /f BIOS
Or if that doesn’t work
bcdboot c:\Windows /s S: /f ALL
There a bunch of possible problems but this may do the trick.

Thanks for your effort. I followed everything and it still didn't work. I might try again later today, I installed the windows 64 version and clicked the pendrive version, I don't think that would have had any effect since I'm not actually installing window's but idk. Might just have to send it off for repair.
Do you just keep getting the same stop code? I assume when you say you installed from the pen drive, you mean initially when you got the PC or what exactly?
@@techextranet I meant the windows 10 instalation media, there were two options, x32 and x64.
Yeah, I booted it up and it just crashed again. I am tempted to press "install Windows" and install it again cause I don't mind reseting my pc. Just afraid that it won't work and I'll do it for nothing or mess up the system even worst.
Good luck!
This was on the HP computer before
I'm getting failure when attempting to copy boot files
At what exact time in the video do you get this error?
@@techextranetim getting this error at 15:31
That step requires two things to happen. Your s drive would have to be the proper volume. Also, it assumes that windows is on c. If you do:
Dir c:\windows
What pops up? If it exists, then the command should succeed if you are in “s” like my video shows.
Also, are you sure you booted to windows media instead of just recovery console.
