I have an original shush, I really like it a lot. It does not bother my 84-year-old mother when she comes over and I’m playing in the house, the other high Ds I have make her cringe. Also, I have to ride the ferry occasionally and play in my car often it’s about the only one I can handle while I’m locked in my car it’s not the one I choose to play when I play outside. But inside is great.

Thanks for sharing. I have another friend who plays in the car if he is ever stuck sitting in heavy traffic.

Good way to deal with that unpleasant situation

I have a Shush Classic arriving tomorrow! I’ll be very interested to hear how the Classic tone compares to your Pro. I was tempted by the Pro, but chose the Classic based on reviews in which each was played into a decibel meter-with the Classic being significantly quieter. The Shush website says the Pro is as quiet as the Classic, but those user tests suggest otherwise. And since I bought it because I live in an apartment and don’t want to annoy the neighbors (or blow out my own hearing!), the greater degree of volume control seemed the key selection factor. I’ll let you know how it goes!

How fun that you and I got one at the same time. I wish I could have gotten both. I really want to hear your comments on the whistle. I could share those with folks. From what I understand the Classic is very good, but a little more traditional in tone. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think.

@LowDWhistle and @lynnewarren8404, very interested to hear both your comments on the Shush whistles! I've been tempted to buy one or the other, pretty much since coming to the whistle. I live in a house but share it with people and pets that are not always appreciative of the whistle sound. I shut doors to try and keep the noise level down, but it still carries, particularly with the high register. And it is the high notes that bother my cats and dogs the most. Do either of you have pets? How do they react to the Shush compared to your other whistles?

Hi Kathy-I do have a cat, so I’ll let you know how she responds to the Shush high D-especially the upper register!

We don’t have any pets, so I don’t know. Great question, though. This is a good question for me to ask in a short and see if we get some replies.

@@lynnewarren8404 , thank you! Most of my cats still leave the room when I play. They don't think 6 months of playing qualifies for an audience, ha, ha!! My dog reacts less now than he did in the beginning but I wouldn't call him a fan and he will still leave or bark at me if the piece stays in the upper register

sounds very cute yes. Could you do me a favor? could you make a short video where you shine a torch into the head of your Howard's . I ordered a Howard D which came with one of the new heads in Balanced but it sounds off i looked inside and there is this "mound" for want of a different word but it sits kind of wonkey... i wonder if i have a mis shaped head piece but i have no comparison other than the old model before they brought out the 3 different heads. Would be helpful :)

I’ll definitely do that. The funny thing is that I thought the same thing. I emailed interior pictures to them and they said it was right. Turns out I had been playing it a while and needed to replace the tape. But yours is new. How long have you had it now? I’m happy to do the video, but it might be more helpful for me to email pictures to you. I can get better images to you that way. Email me at lowdscott@gmail.com and I’ll send some pictures back to you so you can compare.

Compared to your Wild whistle in high D, is the Shush Pro noticeably quieter? For someone looking to learn the tin whistle, would you recommend one over the other or does it depend on each person’s circumstances?

The Shush Pro is definitely quieter. I think they both play easily. The Shush Pro wants to be played more gently. It has a nice tone, but the tone will break if you push it too hard. I really like it, but it is picky, Although it also plays very easily and nicely top to bottom. The Wild Irish also plays easily, but is definitely a louder whistle. As far as learning, either whistle is great. So, yea, there is personal preference. I’m ordering a high D from Goldfinch that I think will be a brilliant beginner high D, but you’d probably have to wait for it to be made and shipped. For a beginner I think getting a whistle that plays easily is the best thing. Either of these would be fine, although others are also good.
