years ago when I was in the navy, I played a tin whistle because as an Engineer, I could play it, and hear it in the Engine Room. Sometime back I stopped playing, it's probably been 20 years now. I've been thinking of taking up the guitar, and not the penny whistle because I want deeper sounds. Honestly, until this moment, I didn't know the Low D existed... Thank You, now I have to rethink some things. lol
Low D may be most common. But there are low whistles in several different keys. This piece is on the Howard Music channel - Howards of Sheffield, England make this low D, with several different mouthpieces. Once I bought one, I basically retired pretty much the other half dozen whistles of mine. Because this one does so much. It's unlike playing a high D - for me anyway - because I can wave a finger near a hole to bend a note, I can easily add vibrato and it does so much more on each note. It's very personal for me.
Wow this is beautiful, you two are awesome
You will need to learn the pipers grip look at her left hand. Words, it’s very pricey, but carboney whistles has a more compact version of a low d whistle . I must say well worth it I have a Low d Dixon, resin, tunable whistle. And the carbon one from carbony with the more compact holes.
@@stevewolfe3214 - the Howards whistle is 2/3 brass 1/3 tin (dampens the resonant 'tinginess' you would otherwise get from brass) and produces a sound which I find far more preferable than the simple dull sound of carbon fiber.

Wow I never knew this whistle instrument existed, sounds gorgeous along with the harp😻 beautiful performance
Beautifully played. The low whistles remind me of what I imagine are the mediterranean-esque origins of the gaelic culture. The sounds of our people, alongside the Greeks, the Scythians, Carthage and the fathers of Moors or Berbers.
I've never heard of a more beautiful present for a newborn baby.. pure love :)
I can almost visualize this good-natured Irish boy. What a beautiful musical translation.
I have tears in my eyes... You play so beautifully. I hope you are well. what a talent I like you and your music.
Douce musique mélancolique et superbement interprété !! j'adore !!
How marvelous to be so skilled to be able to play both these fine instruments to produce this haunting music.
Beautiful playing. This qualifies as a definitive version of the tune.
Not familiar with the low D whistle...but oh, what a beautiful sound it has!
C'est cette version que j'ai choisi pour apprendre à jouer ce joli morceau au low D. Merci Tamsin !😀
Beautiful lady and music , I made eight PVC transverse flutes in LOW D, I checked each one of them and sound grate, sorry about my english but I'm from Mexico..

Do more videos please. Your tutorials are so good.
Thank you! I will do some more at some point! Tamsinx
@@TamsinElliott Sorry forgot to say you played that so well. It is now yet another song I have to learn. I have a Kerry Optima but it does not sound as rich as this. Lots of breathy notes on mine. Is your sound filtered in some way before you upload stuff? Sounds gorgeous
@@TechTins_Projects Thanks so much! I added a touch of reverb but barely did any EQ or anything x
@@TamsinElliott One year later (plus much learning of jigs, reels, ornamentations later) and I can now also play this tune fairly well. Although having difficulty getting last phrase in one breath. Thank you so much, for the inspiration. This is a magical tune. I have listened to all available versions. But I still prefer your version of this tune.
Very beautiful song, I like it very much. Tell my please, where I can found Tabs of this song ,Thank's

Que maravilhoso! parabéns!
Simplesmente lindo 🇧🇷👍👏👏👏👏
Another tune that sounds great with this one is Saol Leisciúil
Tamsin plays beautifully. Can you tell me does that whistle have the standard balanced M-3 head? Love the sound.
I was going to ask this question too! Would love to to know which head is being used!
I think it was the balanced head, yes!
Sheet music source anyone? Beautifully played in a recitative style with the 3/4 time sig given lots of rubato.
Use your ear. It is not that hard to figure out. But to play it this well might take a very long time.
Très joli !! Bravo..
cool!
Lindo trabalho. Obrigado. Onde eu acho TABLATURA DESSA MúSICA?
Which head are you using from the Howard Low D's?
The balanced one!
I wonder if it can be played like Japanese shakuhachi with the same breath of expression.
Hello, I love it! I wanted to know what type of flute it is, where I can buy it.?
www.howardmusic.co.uk/low-d-whistles/
Would love to know what brand this whistle is and where to buy it 🥲
It is a Howard “Black Silk” whistle - Low D. Tamsin says the one she plays has a “Balanced” head. I bought one this year and love the voice. I also experienced great service.
Wonderful playing and tone! Do you know if your Balanced Head had the Acoustic Resin Howard advertise as an extra?
Where are these whistles made? Couldn't find this on his website.. please don't tell me they're made in China
