cant believe it was that simple!~ worked on my mirrorless camera too. I decided to power up my old m50 that I havent touched in a while and was so sad to see no batteries were working to power it on. Not even plugging in with usb to reset or update! power cycled and drained residual and viola! thank you bro!

I'd also like to add, I found that the camera doesn't like it if you take the memory card out, rename some of the files on the card, and then try to put it back. I deleted the renamed files along with your trick and it went back to working!

It suddenly turned off,
It beeped 2 times first then turned off, and then it won’t turn on… Is this because of the battery or the camera?
I'm not an expert on that model. I'd certainly try all of the checks I mentioned in the video, including installing a fresh charged battery. If that doesn't recover the camera my suspicion would be a defective switch or a problem with the internal circuitry.
If it's not a simple fix, for a camera of this age I would question if having it serviced by a camera repair expert is cost effective.

I bought 2 new batteries it did not turn i saw this but still no luck but the camera is old like i bought it 14 years ago its a Canon 1000d really want it fixed but like it turned on for almost a year and suddenly won’t turn on again please help😭

Massively useful. I have a collection of canon that wouldn't turn on. It was always a microswitch issue which i solved quickly. But i bought anew T6 that does not turn on. In my hubris i assumed it would be a quick and easy fix. Nothing with the mocro switches was involved. I am looking forward to trying your ingenous method. You so systematicallysolved this. Turn on the program mode to make sure power is drained took some in depth thinking. Thanks.

Of course there's always the possibility of a hard failure and the camera needs repair. But judging by the comments here, a soft lockup seems like a common problem. Best wishes!

watched other tutorials, but this one makes the most logical sense, worked for my t7 (eos 1500D). First time happened around a year ago, had it fixed and they thought it was a problem in the motherboard so I paid around $70. Yesterday, it happened again. Left it for months and when i tried to use it again, it wont turn on. Thought I need to spend money again. Luckily, this video exists now, fixed it for free. Many thanks 😌🙏

No way this worked! I just got 50D with Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4 for 50$ because it was "defect". Literally took me 20 minutes to fix it and now I have fully functional camera 😂

How would you do this got a canon xa30?
I don't have experience with that model camcorder. I would try removing the battery, then turning the unit on and leaving it in that state overnight. The next day turn off, install the battery and restart -- hope that it recovers. Best wishes.

Glad to hear it worked for so many. I've got a Canon EOS M50, and sadly this did NOT work. Nor did a brand new SanDisk SD card, nor did a 'dummy-batter' (that connects directly to the wall outlet). Still sitting here with a dead camera. Oh well!

Bummer. Could be a real failure. I'd make sure you have a properly inserted, good SD card, and the lens is in place. Some people suggest removing the battery for a day or so, then trying again. Hope it comes back to life for you.
I'm investigating my Samsung NX11. I came across video from the *Craft Art Shack* channel (about 11 months ago) with a fix for the M50. Probably a bit late now but I 'checking for a solution to mine. Hopefully one of them might work for me.

@@Barry-Watson Yeah i’ll probably send it to the canon repair center. Hope they dont charge me more than the price of the dslr though… It just froze out of nothing, like i left it on after cleaning the captor and then dead.
When I was faced with the situation of repairing an older dslr, I found it simply made more sense to replace it with a more modern mirrorless camera. I considered it a good excuse for an upgrade. Best wishes.

Sounds like a different issue than the one I was experiencing.
If you haven't already, I would try a different (fully charged) battery. Sometimes batteries can indicate that they are fully charged, when they're worn out and have no real remaining capacity.
@@Barry-WatsonI have the same problem too. I only used the camera once for taking pictures inside a museum and after that I didn't use it for a day. And now it won't turn on.
I tried what you did in the video 2 times, but they only black out when I tried taking a photo. After a few tries it won't turn on even if I repeated the steps. And I don't really have a spare battery because this one is only a barrowed camera. And I'm really nervous if I have to pay for it.

The comments indicate that this has worked with many different cameras. Please try it and let us know. Of course it's entirely possible to have a hard failure, that this will not revive.

Hi from Australia🦘 Barry. I have just now discovered the same issue on my 40D EOS DSLR. As an IT Tech your loci made perfect sense to me so I am giving it a go. I have not turned on the camera for 5 years or more due to failing vision and now am heading to the MotoGP motorcycle event in Victoria next weekend. Hope your fix works. 👍
