      On the back of my unit it states input voltage of AC110 - 220v 50/60 Hz. Based on that, I think it could be used worldwide (of course, you might need a power plug adapter).

      Those unwanted sounds can be a challenge to overcome, I think best fixed at the source. I would suggest listening while trying different slightly off-axis mic positions. Another trick to minimize vocal clicks is to nibble on a tart apple before the performance. Thanks for watching the video!

    Amp question? Do you think ab sounds better than class d

    • @Barry-Watson
      @Barry-Watson 13 дней назад

      Tough question. I'd like to think so, however I think there are really good sounding amplifiers in both topologies, and honestly I don't know if I could hear the difference. All top quality amplifiers sound quite similar. I think I would choose a good amplifier, but primarily focus on spending the majority of the funding on really good loudspeakers. I would say it is the loudspeakers that have the majority of the impact on sound quality.

    Mixing question(studio) how loud should be a signal going into bus compressor? What would be a start point for threshold? Thanks for this i keep finding your old videos, they are golden.

    • @Barry-Watson
      @Barry-Watson 16 дней назад

      Great question! I don't think there's an exact answer, it's a matter of taste. To much compression will squash the life out of the music, to little won't give you enough control. As a starting point, I would suggest about 30 ms attack, 300 ms release, ratio of 4:1 then adjust threshold so it's reducing gain by about 6db, up to 10db on the loudest peaks. Then from that point tweak the ratio and threshold controls for a bit less or more depending upon what sounds best to you.

  • @mabrystudios5880
    @mabrystudios5880 16 дней назад

    Creating a "only vocal monitor" delay of 6 ms gets from mic to ear in phase. Separate delay to mains as you explain is correct. The two delays combined makes an onstage tightness & out front tightness overall.

    • @Barry-Watson
      @Barry-Watson 16 дней назад

      Thanks!! I would use motorcycle mode -- my understanding is that is the only mode where the charger will monitor the battery and turn itself back on and do an occasional charge cycle as necessary to maintain full charge over long periods.

    I have little compilation of home studio gear. At the heart beat of it is NU4. Audio interface is RME Raydat into couple of Behringer ADAs. Crossovers are plugins on the PC DAW. I the NU4-6000 moves a tapped horn sub(12") at 32hz-45hz and two 15 inch long throw mid basses from 45hz to 300hz. Mids are small full range Dayton PC83s taking care of 300hz to 6500hz. Then there is compression driver for over 6500hz. I have found that two most important factors to create exceptional result is the use of digital crossover and those 15 inch basses to guarantee authority. And finding the full range with non existent cone break up frequency range is the next in that list. Nice side effect having strong bass end is that for example if there is a little biamped monitor in an other room of the apartment the midbasses support it making the experience naturally huge. This tells me something about reality how bass frequencies work out. My NU4 has serious buzzy narrow whining frequency thing going on if used as a biamped application but nothing can be heard as midbass/sub application. 15 inchers totally suppress that defective weird high pitch buzz-tone. Do you have same thing going on with your unit? I also changed the fans to quiet beautiful blue ones as they are not really needed at home levels or occasional short diming. My fans are also sensing the temp. I bought NU4 from Gear4Music and then one day it just totally died. G4M got it RMA repaired for free and then it has been working over 10 years without any issue other than they cannot be used as biamped application due to forementioned strange whining tone. It greatest thing ever as if I need I can easily rattle the windows but as well listen very quietly which I mostly do.

    • @Barry-Watson
      @Barry-Watson 20 дней назад

      Sounds like a fun setup! I have not noticed any unusual sounds from my NU4 amplifier, aside from fan noise. Extended listening may prove otherwise, but I wonder if the artifacts are your amplifier or something else in your signal chain. Thanks for sharing your experience.

    Ordered via your link. Package did not have operator's manual. Found pdf for it online. Took unit out to the field. Was looking for irrigation wiring, (14ga), generally 10" - 18" deep. Little bit of a learning curve but it does find the lines if they aren't too deep. Some wiring is 3 feet deep and did not work for me. The most sensitive setting on the Receiver unit did pick up some interference from somewhere. Turned it down a setting or two and it worked fine from waist level. Also learned that if I held the Receiver perpendicular to the general direction of the underground wire(s), it seemed to pick up signal better when trying to pinpoint exact location of wire. Also, if wires are beneath rock material the signal may be sporadic or off to the side of directly above the wire, in my experience. Receiver unit did trace line at about 2,000 feet and 10" - 18" deep from Emitter unit. Even found a break in a line with only two battery bars on Emitter. My experience with the Emitter's charged battery life: about 4.5 - 5 hours. Kinda short, imo. But might try other rechargeables? Would be nice if Receiver unit had an earpiece option for quiet searching. This device helped me alot. Thanks, Barry.

      I wish the Q-16 unit had the ability to adjust the relative level of the audio feed versus the mic. I recall I had to turn down the audio program level on the PC, to make the mic level coming from the box to match it. As a karaoke interface I think it works okay, but if I was doing recording or looking for great sounding audio I think I would choose a different interface. For a very low budget interface, I thought this one worked well: ruclips.net/video/73sSM99aXho/видео.html

      OK I found a way to test it. 1. Remove all input jacks from the unit. 2. Right click speaker icon 3. Windows SOUNDS with tabs show up 4. Open RECORDING tab 5. Scroll to MIC tab-::when the REC/PLAY or Loopback is pressed.. the PC output is mixed back into main mic channel for the PC.

    I didn't know they released a 4 channel version of that amplifier. Have you tried the DSP models?

      Yes, I have a inuke 6000-DSP. I would get the amplifier with DSP, I think it's good value. The built-in crossover, EQ and limiting are great features. Unfortunately, I don't think DSP is offered on the 4 channel version.

    Great video. I use the Heil PR-40 along with other processing with ham radio. Microphone location is a big part of sound.

    Barry, I have a Super Radio model #2880B. I have enjoyed listening to it for years. Enjoy your show on You Tube.

    Today with broadband internet, you can do radio over the internet where there is no FCC broadcast license needed to broadcast over the internet. All you need to do internet radio is a computer and a audio mixer board and of course a broadband internet connection into your place of residence

      Good point, I think that's a much better option where you have more reach and less likelihood of getting arrested.

    How much power do you need? Simple I say. It must be of a sufficient level to annoy your wife, infuriate the neighbours, and damage your hearing! At that point you have audio nirvana.

      It really depends upon the efficiency of the loudspeaker system (and your personal need for level). With efficient pro-sound speakers (over 100db/w) it only takes a few watts to produce significant output. But a lot of audiophile or home audio speakers are far less efficient, and I find in those cases amplifiers of 50 or 100 watts per channel are often required to have ample dynamic range. With inefficient speakers (80-ish/db/w), a system with about 200 watts per channel seems like a pretty nice and capable home audio system in my mind. Of course, we do have to keep in mind what power the speakers will tolerate. On one hand, I say that amplifiers all sound pretty similar however I do think that big powerful amplifiers sometimes sound better because they have the power to exert more control on the loudspeakers. Have the current to force the drivers to move faster, stop faster and to produce cleaner sounding transients with stronger damping action on the drivers. Sometimes the bass seems tighter and more defined with powerful amplifiers (and thicker speaker cable). So, it's not just a matter of volume level. Personally, I don't need to recreate concert level at home. But, I do like a system that has the power to effortlessly reproduce transients, and ample headroom so I don't have to worry much about clipping even if I turn it up. For a long time I was using an amplifier for my office audio system that had 700 watts per channel and I never listened to it loud. Way overkill? Absolutely, but it worked well, sounded good, and there's nothing really wrong with having extra on tap in my mind - provided the amplifier isn't wasting insane amounts of power at idle, which in this case this one was not. It is a good amp, I had it, so why not use it. The caution or downside is that if something bad happened like a poor connection or "accident" and I got a loud nasty pop or buzz through the system, the big amp may be able to easily toast the loudspeakers. You could argue that nobody needs a high powered sports car or sportbike but some people appreciate the performance and enjoy that sort of thing - even if they rarely have the chance to fully use the power. Thanks, good question!
