On the subject of slow-mo, throughout the movie I couldn't help but keep thinking about that line in Garth Marenghi's Darkplace when Richard Ayoade says, "We tried to keep the slow motion away from dialogue as much as possible, but anything without dialogue was considered for slow motion"
The Mother Boxes were the least "well-guarded" super-computer-weapons ever. One was in a coat closet (then buried in a hole a foot deep) & the other two were displayed out in the open on giant plinths like they were in a museum. Why weren't they encased in tons of concrete & buried miles in the earth? Or at the bottom of the Mariana Trench? Or shot into the sun thousands of years ago? Remind me to never ask a DC character to guard something for me.
There was one point with the Atlanteans that I thought they were going to hide the mother box in an octopus stomach. I thought that was cool, but nah. We are going to put it on display.
I feel like there's a perfect 3-3.5 hour fanedit of this that cuts the Knightmare, Martian Manhunter, Lex/Slade scene, musical montages, speeds up a lot of the slo-mo, the Icelandic chanting and generally trims a lot of scenes. Still, as a big DC fan and Snyder detractor I really enjoyed most of this. My favourite film of his, and I'm glad he gets personal closure
As someone who didn't bother watching the 2017 version, I thought this was well paced and worked as a film. But if it needed to be that long to feel properly fleshed out, then it probably wasn't the right time to make a Justice league film. If the cyborg stuff had been explored in his own film first, this wouldn't have needed to spend so long on him for example.
That's a really good point. The movie felt a lot better to me in large part because everything felt so fully explored. But yeah, a big chunk of that time is spent on Cyborg and his relationship with his father.
I feel the Cyborg origin was the only one that did belong in the movie because it actually relates to the plot, if anyone needed his story resolved before this, it was Flash. None of his personal scenes were necessary for this movie, and having two "new guy does good/love you dad" stories competing for attention kinda flattened them both for me. The "travel into the digital world" scenes were embarassing though. It was a better version, but overall still an ugly movie with characters that are hard to care about as they're presented.
@@doomstadt2371 it’s funny because I actually liked the flash story because it made me believe he would want to join a strange team. And I think Cyborg story could be trimmed down. I didn’t need all the flashbacks.
I'm one of the people who hates bvs and was not expecting to like this one but I got surprised. While some stuff is still dumb, especially in part 1 and epilog, in general the movie was okay. This one finally has hope instead of misery fest, even Batman, who was 1% obsessed murderer earlier, now talks about faith and that makes the watch so much nicer. Not enough Superman though and injustice plans for future don't sound promising. And thank god WB didn't let Zack make Bats hook up with Lois. Joker wasn't worth it either. But still, a nice surprise for someone who did not expect anything good at all
As a person who hasn’t really liked any of Snyder’s films, I thoroughly enjoyed his Justice League. I’m surprised Mason still calls it the worst DC film.
Yeah I've tolerated synders movies but really enjoyed this. I kinda get it though if you're a bit fatigued of the whole thing then a 4 hour movie isn't the best remedy
if Cyborg wanted to end wealth inequality in Gotham, he shouldn't have given a random woman $100,000. He should've just emptied Bruce Wayne's bank account.

@@DinerLingo he had to get something out of it. He gets nothing by buying the house, buying the bank gives him the profits. So it looks like he did a great thing, but he actually made money off it.

why lock the creepy monster dude and his bug friends in a stone building and throw it in the ocean if he literally teleported in there? He's shown he can teleport?!?!?
The Boom tube cannot teleport a person in and out if there is a physical barrier between the destination and the source. Collapsing the building was actually a sensible move since it would take Steppenwolf a good amount of time to move the thousands of tons of rubble out of the way to activate the tube.

Maybe the groupies song goes on too long because they're pissed he keeps wasting all their good gucci shirts and it's been happening so often the song just gets longer and longer due to passive aggression. he's not leaving. He's running before the second chorus kicks in.
When they dropped the Joker trailer I knew in my heart that the “we live in a society” line was just a marketing trick to appeal to the community that would watch Justice League ironically and yup it’s not in the movie and Snyder is a master director for that.
That’s what I thought they were going to do. But I think Snyder putting that nightmare scene in the epilogue because they are not doing it. It looks cool, despite me not wanting a scary Superman.
i dont think they will. the reason warner bros. ditched zack snyder is because they wanted to move away from the serious and dark tone movies (like Mos, BvS) and they approach a more mainstream way of making movies while also being themselves and not copy marvel. the knightmare timeline is a very dark timeline (where superheroes kill each other). so no way warner bros. are gonna continue with that timeline.
@@conormurphy4328 which is a shame because I agree with the boys aho have said on multiple times that they believe, like myself, that Zak Synder would create a brilliant Injustice universe in films.
Why would those guys (in the Wonder Woman scene) who just wanted to blow up 4 street blocks put a timer on that bomb? And then Wonder Woman blasted him away instead of just stopping him. Love it
Cyborg's suit is made from Mother Box tech, and the Mother Boxes can identify when Krptonians are near and perceives them as a threat. When Steppenwolf starts the unity at the end of the movie the boxes don't respond to his command right away, he has to command them twice and then they reluctantly merge to start the unity because they can tell that Superman is alive again.
Give him a break. He got a brand new body and is going through cyborg puberty. He's still trying to figure out how his body works. We've all been there.
In this version cyborg seemed more wary of superman's resurrection (considering he also had a knightmare vision), so that's probably why he wasn't trying to control it in the first place. After all, he never said he couldnt control it in this version
My biggest interrogation about this movie is: did I enjoy it for its own qualities, compared to the 2017 version, or because it's bloody March 2021and every ounce of fun is a blessing?
Start at the 3 hour mark? What is Mason talking about? They add so much in the first 3 hours. The whole Cyclops backstory, making him a character instead of just some robot guy being there. You basically say, just watch the final action scene? I think, while I still liked it, the final action scene is the most insignificant thing about the movie. Everything that happens in the first 3 hours is the best part about it.
Disney should genuinely put the Star Wars holiday special on Disney plus but retitle it: ‘The terrible, cheap Star Wars holiday special that everyone hates.’ I think that’d genuinely get a lot of ppl watching it.
Definitely not. But as they were saying, it's strange that they didn't just take what was already filmed and cut it down. There'd certainly be some scenes with missing context clues, but I feel like the 2017 release still had that problem even with reshoots. I would've been fine with a 3hr theatrical release of this and then an Ultimate Cut for dvd/digital release at 4hrs for the more diehard fans to watch, similar to BvS.
@@DylanSunkel Personally I think Warner wanted less than 3 hours, they wanted it the length of the Theatrical release and I don't think it'd be possible to cut it down to 2-2.5 hours without making a mess.
@@saladdodger4722 Very true, I had also heard about how hard they wanted just 2. I'd be curious to see an editor take the Snyder Cut and attempt a two-hour version for fun and see how logical it is.
@@DylanSunkelWhilst I would be interested to see how well it works I have no doubt it would be significantly worse, you would lose too many little character moments that I think personally add so much.
I quite enjoyed it! I always thought it was going to be a limited series, so I viewed it as such, watching it over 3 days (2 parts per evening). Maybe because of this I didnt find it boring or long at all. Also, its full on comic book dorkiness but it leans into so hard and takes itself so seriously, gotta respect it for fully committing. Also agree that overall the scenes are just better paced and better shot. Zach Snyder def understands that the tension before an action moment is as important as the bang wiz punch itself.
About halfway through the podcast I really hope you caught that line when they were digging up Superman and Cyborg tell Flash he could dig him up in like 1 second
Fascinating how different people are perceiving justice league. I hated the original, I don't tend to like snyder movies but this felt really well paced, tonally spot on, and less goofy action scenes.
I just wish the slow mo scenes weren’t so overly long cuz some worked but others were just annoying cuz of how long they were Especially the Wonder Woman scenes with that annoying score that plays everytime for her
Mr Sunday Movies: The first half is meh, the 2nd half is great. RedLetterMedia: The first half is great, the 2nd half is meh. The more shocking part is that this film succeeded at all.

Honestly, I think Maso is nitpicking way too much. And I went into this movie not expecting anything, hating the original cut. But I was extremely pleasantly surprised.
@@matthewcronin2325 really? I dont remember Batman being a giant Superman fanboy. Or Wonder Woman being a person who brutally murders people in front of small children. I just listened to your commentary of the original theatrical release of Justice League, and I think there's a lot more that you appreciate in the Snyder cut than you realize. A large majority of your complaints in the commentary were fixed in the new release, but I don't blame you at all for blocking the memories of that film from your minds. I had forgotten how bad it really was until I just re-watched it.
Can't tell if the Snyder Cut was actually good or just a thousand times better than the 2017 Justice League movie, could've done without the post apoloyptic weirdly shot Joker scene or the casual Martian Manhunter convo at the end. Also, I guess Bruce Wayne's plan is still to just turn Wayne Manor into the Hall of Justice and hope that somehow nobody notices that he's Batman.
If they cut the knightmare, the martian manhunter scenes, and tightened the editing/slow mo a little, the movie would have been a solid 3 and a half hours or so and would be better for it in my opinion
Bruce also said congratulation to Clark when he gets the house back. like oh by the way, way to get Louis pregnant. it had nothing to do with the house.
The thing about the Bat Gauntlets wasn't that they were treating the audience dumb. If you pay attention, the point was that Batman saw Diana use her gauntlets in BvS, liked them and wanted a pair. He and Alfred were attempting to recreate mythological tech. That's why Diana makes a joke about maybe making him a lasso and shield too... lol she was a bit salty that Batman was ripping her shit off! Hahaha
im shocked James even considered playing the King Kong game. its notorious for two things: -being really easy to 100% the achievement list since you just need to beat it once -being really hard to 100% the achievement list since you just need to beat it once, but its REALLY bad
I mean I can understand why WB executives didn't want this movie in the cinemas. This was a 4-hour long movie that doesn't have a conventional storytelling style and was only part one of two. The Snyder Cut heavily works to set up future movies & Darkseid. The entire 10 min epilogue is only there to set up future franchises. This was very clearly the Infinity War to Endgame.
Well if zack snyder got to make his movie, it would not have been this. It would have been 2 and half hours at most and rightfully so. This movie is way too long.
After the future scenes from the Snyder-cut movie, the Flash pops back in time to BvS and tells Bruce that Lois is the key. This creates a ripple effect subtly changing the heroes’ personalities to have whedonesque humour. Batman then brings Lois in as the ‘big guns’ when Superman comes back, as seen in the theatrical release. This leads to a happy future, with no brain-washed Superman. This makes both movies canon, with the Joss-tice League happening second and also the movie from which the other DCEU’s align.
53:44 He had to build the carrier, because if someone saw a plane that Bruce Wayne just bought, shoot out a Batmobile at any point, that'd be giving it away. Always planning ahead that one. Or maybe he's just obsessed with building bat-themed vehicles. Both things likely true.
Why did Steppenwolf have that same convo with Desaad? I was like whatttt? You’ve already told him about people having the scent of mother boxes and what not, why you doing this 😂 and yeah those googly eyes Steppenwolf has, I seen that as a GIF and thought it was fake! They are real 🤣🤣
I hadn't seen the original justice league so this was the first version I watched. I thought it was alright, overall I enjoyed it, even if it would be a better movie if it was cut down to some extent. There is some stuff that really bugged the hell out of me though SPOILERS! - - - - - - - - - The opening of movie was very strong up until the amazon fight scene where it fell apart. I felt like the amazon fight scene was very badly edited and would have been much better trimmed down, I don't need to see 6 different shots of amazon queen lady riding her horse in a straight line OK, including this weird sort of face-cam she has? There was also a part in the temple where she's talking to one of her mates, every time they say a line they turn around and then turn back to SAY ONE WORD AND THEN SPIN AROUND AGAIN, THIS WENT ON FOR AFULL CONVERSATION WHAT IS HAPPENING? I gotta say it...the villains are just bad.. Steppenwolf just comes across as kind of an idiot he's making generic monster grunts the entire time and I could barely understand what he's saying through his thick accent and heavy processing on his voice. I couldn't take the guy seriously, is he meant to be threatening?? He also has just the WORST most generic bad guy monologues ever.. like its hard to understand how anyone could write this dialogue and think its good. Even Darkseid, in the flashback he won't shut the fuck up, he's just grunting and roaring the entire time. That said the fact I hated Steppenwolf so much meant that when they finally pummeled the ever living shit out of him at the end it was all the more satisfying, probs my fav sequence in the movie. I really liked cyborg, he was probably my favorite character. Batman didn't really do anything inside of fights he just drove around..and kind of walked everywhere before awkwardly using his grappling hook. I Hated the flash, I found him very annoying AND WHY doesn't this man know how to run!? WTF IS HE DOING I CAN"T EVEN

Thing that bothered me most about the Snyder Cut? Why did Martha Kent pack up a U-Haul van, but didn't take her deceased son's shirts with her? Seems a bit heartless.
i hate (but respect) mason's opinion on this one. i loved this version and was blown away by how much better it was than the 2017 version. i also didnt mind the 4 hour run time and honestly didnt find myself to be bored at any point.
Mason's reaction really surprised me, especially him saying this is still the worst DC film. It has its flaws (excessive slow mo, dragged out ending, Knightmare scene, etc.) but I think Snyder really succeeded overall. I watched it with family who have varying degrees of interest and fondness for super hero movies, and everyone enjoyed it. I would go so far as to say this is better than the first Avengers movie in almost every way, particularly with regard to making all the characters feel like they mattered in the final battle. That scene with The Flash reversing time was just beautifully done and a kind of perfect example of what kinds of peaks you can reach with these kinds of characters.
FINALLY!! SOMEBODY ADRESSED TO THE REWRITING OF HISTORY! YEAH SURE ZACK! YOUR"ORIGINAL VISION"CASUALLY ALWAYS INCLUDED EVERYTHING THE FANS TWEETED THAT THE WHEDON CUT WAS MISSING FOR YEARS SUUUUURE
But the only stuff he filmed that was new was the nightmare stuff and the Martian manHunter scene with Bruce. So like a total of 5 minutes of new footage.
@@my2randomcents Why? Most of this stuff he was already either setting up in BvS or he confirmed it before the theatrical even came out. You can tell which scenes he added on because Ben affleck is a lot thinner in them.

I'm glad we've reached the point culturally where basic tonal and visual consistency is now cause for celebration. It may no longer be a studio-bastardized Frankenstein's Monster, but it's still a dour, stakesless, LOTR-derivative, McGuffin Hunt.
First comment on youtube! Love the show. No hate or blaming, but just wanted to comment about how you didn't think the "lab assistant" was even an actor. If you're referring to Zheng Kai (who plays "Ryan Choi"), I personally really liked his performance and delivery. I grew up with many friends from different asian origins, and the way Zheng Kai delivered his lines, and specifically jokes, reminded me of many of my friends. Did he say his lines similarly to the way other actors might from a north american, british, australian, or other origin? Definitely not, since Zheng Kai is playing a character born in Hong Kong. But it's unfair to imply that "he was so bad that he's probably not even really an actor" simply because he delivered his lines in a way that you don't typically see in Hollywood movies. Again, LOVE the channel, but in today's climate, and myself being asian origin, this comment stood out to me like a sore thumb. Much love, just chiming in! Keep up the great channel!
I find the general response to the Snyder cut fascinating, I'm glad ppl love it but I don't get it myself. Seems like this benefits hugely by the comparison to a truncated version that awkwardly jammed 2 very different visions together. But Synder League is only okay when viewed in isolation, at least for me. One thing is for sure. This film is the most Zack Snyder thing I've ever seen, and I've seen Zack Snyder.

Make the Lex/Slade scene a mid credits scene, then take the Knightmare/Joker/Manhunter scene a post-credit "Chapter 8"

@@WayneManor666 my exact thoughts

It still bothers me to no end how Cyborg randomly has an automatic defense mechanism he somehow can't override.
Plus he is still learning his new body.
😂😂
Start at the 3 hour mark? What is Mason talking about? They add so much in the first 3 hours. The whole Cyclops backstory, making him a character instead of just some robot guy being there. You basically say, just watch the final action scene? I think, while I still liked it, the final action scene is the most insignificant thing about the movie. Everything that happens in the first 3 hours is the best part about it.
While he was an absolute spaz, I loved Flash. The scene during the last battle was so good. Been listening to the ost for that scene on repeat.
Disney should genuinely put the Star Wars holiday special on Disney plus but retitle it:

Many of the scenes are better but sheesh, there’s no chance this would of been a 4 hour film for Cinema first time round.

Also agree that overall the scenes are just better paced and better shot. Zach Snyder def understands that the tension before an action moment is as important as the bang wiz punch itself.

This was a 4-hour long movie that doesn't have a conventional storytelling style and was only part one of two.

I watched it with family who have varying degrees of interest and fondness for super hero movies, and everyone enjoyed it.
I would go so far as to say this is better than the first Avengers movie in almost every way, particularly with regard to making all the characters feel like they mattered in the final battle.

•Aquamans armor looks better in this, but needs a little more color
•Michael Bay levels of product placement for that Mercedes
•WHY is this movie 4 hours long
•wow lot of blood in this. Not necessarily a bad thing just wow
•I really wish this movie had more build up than 3 movies
•did they just nuke Gorham, or the planet? What?
•there's no way any of this makes sense to casual fans
•haha Barry still runs silly
•NO WONDER THIS MOVIE IS SO LONG THERE'S SO MUCH SLOWMO
•Is this movie good or is it just different?
•these actors deserve better
•i like that they actually do hero stuff occasionally
•this cgi is all over the place
•YOU SHOULD PROBABLY MOVE
•This aspect ratio man lol
•At least Victor has a story in this
•THERE'S STILL AN HOUR LEFT
•Henry Caville is getting such a raw deal as Supes
•he literally did fight them united though
•I want Batman's chair
•i feel like Snyder should just make black and white films. He clearly hates colors
•idk about you but black just doesn't scream hope.
•that was fun how Barry ran back through time
•lol shot continuity. Batman is in the hero shot before the portal closes them he's hanging off the side of the silo before Supes helps him up for another hero shot. Nice.
•man Martian manhunter was super relevant to this story. Glad he showed up.
•oh the plane is just flying again. That definitely crash landed
•oh great an epilogue that's what the movie needs
•when everything isn't artificially washed out and full of substandard cgi this movie is actually really pretty.
•oh yeah Jesse Eisenberg is lex. I think I forced myself to forget that
•this has got to win (rewin?) an award for the game is on
•I think I finally understand what people mean when they say lord of the rings has too many endings. Those movies earned it though so
•damn its a bummer we are never gonna see deathsroke outside of that one cameo
•OH GOOD ITS STILL GOING
•what is the point of this
•oh good Jared Leto. What a pleasure
•so did he draw on the tattoos? That seems tedious
•very edgy. Wow
•why is this in the movie
•the rest actually wasn't terrible but this nightmare scene is really going too far lol
•that laugh is so bad
•that scene went on for far too long
•oh Martian manhunter is back.
•i feel like this is just for that poster that said unite the seven. They really needed that seventh member lol
•ok THAT has to win the game is on surely.
•is it really over?
Yup
Omg too much bro
@@Drawnartist I know it's like the movie was 4 hours long. Crazy.
Manson is completely out of the dome this version is much better, definitely not perfect but much better
Yeah it went from a 1/10 to a 2.5/10.
@@whyequalswhat that’s an improvement.
Charles or Marilyn?
I was very ready to be let down by this, as with most of the DCEU stuff, but I had a blast. It was long, but I'm used to wating 8-13 episodes of everything now. So I loved it. The fixed a ton of bad characterization and made a coherent plot, and they left open the door for awesome things to come. I'll watch it again for sure.
