I know it's a podcast, and you listen to it more than you look at it, but as a listener who likes to have it on my TV, I sometimes wish it wasn't such a bright image with a white background.. just a minor gripe I have lol
@stevhen42Honestly Ryan and Margo as Gambit and Rogue is pitch perfect. Especially chemistry-wise. I know people want Keke Palmer as Rogue but I’m just putting it out there.
The Matrix 4 elevated the franchise while also being a bad movie. In my opinion what elevates it is when Neo meets up with old lady Jada and he is sad that nothing has changed. But she says no, lots has actually changed and he tours the city and sees that machines are working with humans, the machine empire has crumbled due to the deal they made with humanity that is still intact and they're even trying to bring back things that were lost like plants and animals. It showed that there was a payoff for the first three movies and Neo's sacrifice in the end - he broke the cycle.
As soon as you said, "he is sad," I was expecting this to be a Blue Harvest joke. I appreciate the restraint. However, not a lot of people know this, but seeing the plants growing being the cure to Neo's depression actually led to the working title of the movie to be "Blue Harvest" which was also the working title of Star Wars.

The funny thing about them talking about Maso's first Superman comic is they had that same discussion in the 2016 Q and A and in both James wonders if it's like "Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow?" I only listened to that Q and A for the first time this week so I just found the repetition of that really fascinating.

One legacy sequel that's very conspicuously missing from the list: PSYCHO and PSYCHO II (and III), with 23 years between I and II, and of course with Anthony Perkins (and Vera Miles) resuming their original roles. Then, of course, there's the TV legacy, BATES MOTEL, with Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga.

And think, it might never have happened if Mr Sunday hadn't been having an emotional breakdown at how stressful being a teacher was on a Melbourne tram one day.
The main thing with a legacy sequel that isn't mentioned is the intent, in my opinion. Jurassic world, for example, was made with the intent of banking on nostalgia but they also still wanted it to be removed enough that it attracts new fans and doesn't alienate people by being a direct follow up. Same thing with Star Wars episode 7. That's what makes it a legacy sequel versus just a late sequel.
My dumb brain activates whenever I see a dinosaur so I actually really enjoyed all the Jurassic world movies 😂 can’t help it. Jurassic park is the first movie I have a memory of. Loved it ever since I was a child
A _legacy_ implies that there’s a whole new generation carrying the torch, and not necessarily the same characters continuing on new adventures. With that in mind, The Force Awakens is a perfect example of a legacy sequel, while a story like Top Gun Maverick isn’t really, since it’s continuing the story of Maverick directly.
