As a kid Leon's jacket was the coolest thing ever, I was so stoked when my mum bought me one just like it, it was so comfy with the inner fur. Then I grew out of it :(
@@reubencream3095 yeaa one day I was really high with a friend and we were waiting for the subway, and then I put my super nice jacket on the seat beside me, metro arrives, we go in the metro...and then the door closes and as it closes, I notice my jacket on the seat.......it's too late....we leave for the next station...and I'm like shit we need to run back to the previous station....so we run all the way back (it was faster than waiting for another metro) and then, I arrive to the seat....it's gone! Never found it back. I really miss that jacket.
You've got a nice mom. You should give her a call sometime soon and thank her again for that, if you haven't recently - in my experience, moms are really touched when their kids still remember that kinda thing years later.
My mother, a deaf woman, played this game for years. Over and over and over again… she always hoarded her money, yelled when being chased, and took the same paths each playthrough and had to have beat it well over a dozen times, but always had a good time. Especially when we were watching her play. She didn’t understand the story, or any of the background lore - she just loved this game. It’ll forever be a masterpiece to her and myself. Tried to get her to play RE5 and RE6 with me, but the mechanics were a little different and she wasn’t having it! Lmao RIP Mom.

After the chief spares Leon, the next scene is not Leon entering the room again. In fact, that second scene is 100% optional and it serves more as another surprise in the game. Kinda like “oh you wanna go back in here do you? Well this is what happens…”
I kept seeing it on videos and thought I just forgot it or it wasn't there in the VR version (since I was playing the VR version) since I just waltzed back out. I did not want anything to do with the Big Cheese.
Except it's not because in Separate Ways we can clearly see Leon getting up, getting his weapon ready and entering the room again just to get an uppercut from Mendez, haha.
@@malibutaa you said: "the next scene is not Leon entering the room again" as if the scene only purpose to exist is to be a secret, when it's not, it has to happen.
@@medranodiego8641that’s because it IS a secret. The game sets you up to miss it; you start in a new chapter right after leaving the room, with your back turned to the door, facing down the hall so the player is influenced to continue forward and not try going back. RE4 is filled with moments like that. If you want to get technical, the GC version of the game still has that scene but not separate ways, meaning it was always optional. Which is my point.

"Why does this random guy in Spain know about an outbreak in Raccoon city." Uh... an entire city was overrun with zombies and nuked. I'm pretty sure at the time it would be pretty much the single most well known event in living memory.
Pretty sure most people didn’t know that it was a zombie outbreak. The governor lied about what caused the massive destruction and said it was some other dangerous disease If I remember the lore correctly
@@FalonGrey I know. But you’re not going to know what caused it. Imagine telling the public “oh yeah. Zombies killed everyone.” No one is going to believe that shit. It’s only years later that Bioweapons like the T-Virus are common knowledge

I think a lot of us were surprised when we played Revelations or RE6 that the lore changed to where zombies and BOWs were secret and Racoon City was really never known, despite survivors making it out, and like in Outbreak testified, in court openly. Capcom retcons constantly.
I think RE4 took a cue from Aliens and Terminator 2. When people are familiar with your monster, and thus not so easily frightened by it, make the sequel lean more towards action. That way both the characters and the audience can experience the catharsis of feeling like they're facing their old fears head-on. But don't forget to also up the stakes and make the monsters more powerful, so that the tension remains.
Re4 is a masterpice. A full game that unlocks two extra game modes, a seperate campaign, some unlockable costumes and it's all in the game! Wow. In todays world, that would be a game, 2 dlcs and 2 season passes.
Sorry but no. Maybe at the time one could argue that but now no. Too many "throw waves of enemies at you" and "escort mission" moments. The reason it gets so much praise besides "nostalgia " is simply because it was the first over shoulder res evil. Period.

Heck, the campaign has better flow than most actions games of today. It is a masterclass in progression and pacing. Also, it wasn't the first over-the-shoulder RE game. You know what I like about this game's story? It's like one of those funnily cheesy 80s action movies without trying too hard to be seen as such. Whereas the other games tried way too hard to be Michael Bay films. This and Persona 4 are the only two games to this day that make me feel melancholy after finishing because of how likeable the characters are.
Love when he talks about Ashley’s AI not being stupid and the dead rising music subtly plays in the background .... I had PTSD of those escort missions.
I remember constantly spamming: "Follow me! Come on! Follow me! Go! Over there!" Yeah, escorting survivors in DR sure was a "blasting" experience. Glad that DR2 made them better, and Off the Record, while nerfing them a bit, at least has checkpoints.
The Japanese version of the base game had the Ashley section use fixed camera angles just like in the classic games which was pretty awesome. Explains how the lamps she throws aim at enemies automatically when throwing.
I honestly love Salazar. Everytime he's on screen the game becomes "Special agent has a dickoff against Zombie Midget". He's small and full of comic villains cliches and then there's Leon being an asshole to him 🤣.
The reason Sadler didn't infect Luis was because of the anti-parasitic drugs he had been taking (that he later hands Leon.) They only hamper larval growth but kill the eggs, so infecting him would have been pointless. A document mentions this in game.

My RE4 story. A while after release me and a friend went to a electronics shop after school. In a bin he found RE4 and was like "guess ill try it" so we jumped on the bus back home and i didnt hear from him for 3 days. Over the weekend he could tell me he'd been playing for 3 days straight. So i went to buy it myself and guess what.. I played it for days on end. Finished it probably 4-5 times straight. One of THE best gaming memories for me. It was truly groundbreaking.
This is by far the best Resident Evil game. Everything about it was perfect. The M/C. The setting. The storyline. The gameplay. The weapons. The array of enemies. The pacing. The eeriness of hearing the hooded drones whispering in Latin. Omg. I still play it to this day.

Finally got around to this masterpiece a month ago. I got so addicted I played 71 hours in 20 days. Beat it once, went straight to Professional and beat it again, beat Separate Ways, and then did another normal run with new outfits. Ashley's knight armor was hilarious xD. I got pretty damn frustrated with Krauser on Professional. I died so many times and I had no clue the knife was the key weapon to use, I had to look it up. Was surprised that I couldn't find one video where someone defeated him without some usage of the knife, but at least now I know.
If I’m ever bored or don’t have anything else to play, I play Resident Evil 4. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve played it over the years, it’s literally just a perfect video game
A time before DLC you know that if RE4 was released today, "Separate Ways", the Mafia Costume and "Assignment ADA" would totally be DLC, instead at the time you got all that content that made you play the game for longer just by beating it once.
Mercenaries mode would also definitely be DLC. Actually, no, it would become some kind of a deathmatch type multiplayer game. With skins, cards and some other BS.
@@velocilevon Dude don't even get me started with that crap, games used to have so much content from day 1 and the only requirements you had was either just play the game in X difficulty or do some challenge like only use knives or stuff like that, it made you play the game for longer and have fun with the extra skins or game modes you ended up unlocking. Now you're lucky if your game even works without a day 1 patch or if it doesn't have like hundreds of dollars worth of DLC that could've been on the base game if only they weren't as greedy. In the end, it was the fact that now developers can add stuff post release that we have this problem in the first place, they became complacent and greedier.
RE 4 is not a Masterpiece.... in what kind of survival horror you shoot a crow and it drops shut gun ammo or just diamonds??? That's so true, especially that part where you and Ashley ride a cable car, made me feel like a true boss when I nailed every ganado and she kept fist bumping
RE4 is quite possibly the best marriage of mechanics, enemy design, and level design in a game to date. The core "stagger-melee" combat loop is consistently satisfying, providing mechanical (i-frames, crowd control, massive damage) and kinetic (cinematic presentation, momentary lull in tension) rewards every single time. Enemies are always visually reactive to what the player does. Adversaries change over the course of the game, and things like shields, invisible foes, helmets, and crossbows force the player to mix up their tactics, and push them to discover every element of the game's rich toolset. RE4 also rewards experimentation with a variety of weapons and a rich upgrade system. It's an absolute masterpiece of design, which makes it delightful to play.
@@abc-ug5ym I like that little insight at the end there. Not just the mine cart, but the whole combat system seems like they took the emotional experience of gun combat in something from the arcades like Lethal Enforcers, House of the Dead, or Time Crisis and adapted it to RE...Specifically, Time Crisis (With the pedal)...Leave cover...Check targets and distance...Prioritize threats...Line up reticle...Fire...Evade when pressured... But in terms of bagging on consoles, IMHO it's a matter of precision...it's the reason why almost every FPS on console MUST include at least some aim assist, especially if it mixes console and PC players competitively...Man, I remember trying to play Counter-Strike on PC with a controller against keyboard...no contest...but the same does NOT apply however to something like Fighting games where all you are looking for is a single input command rather than a precision selection of pixel under your cross-hair....(Controllers CAN actually be better in the FGC due to ergonomics and the shorter distance your fingers need to travel for input...) so control choice is pretty situational... One last bit, I would partially disagree with the slowness complaint about RE4. The speed of the aiming and enemy movement is balanced with the fact that there is no strafing, dodging, or moving at all while aiming. It's doesn't make the game worse, just different in terms of player priorities...Think of it this way...In an FPS' you can circle-strafe or if you position your cross-hair at head level and aim just to the left of a corner that turns to the right, you can literally almost do nothing but press the fire button as enemies round the corner and backpedal as they advance down the hall...Y'know how they made it more difficult in RE4? Now your gun has natural sway since it's impossible for an actual human to remain perfectly still while aiming and you can't move...thus making it more complicated...motion and combat are just separated in RE4's system...
I never minded the escort mission aspect of the game. Ashley is never TOO much of a nuisance, she can handle herself and when she doesn't, it's not too difficult to rescue her. I say they did escort mission right in this game.
The Act Man: "For the first time, Resident Evil was rendered in three dimensions." Code Veronica: "Am I a joke to you?" Edit: Just realized, Code Veronica wasn't even the first 3D Resident Evil game. Resident Evil Survivor beat Code Veronica by 7 days.
last year i went on a binge and played every resident evil game from Classic 1 to REmake 3 and i found code veronica so uninteresting, The locations bored me and characters were meh (I know RE isn't exactly the Last of Us but still)which is a shame because its the only time we got classic style RE with a fully 3D environment and spooky lighting... Same with Revelations 2 which everyone seems to enjoy I just found it meh
Technically speaking, Code Veronica isn't actually fully 3D (whereas RE4 was). Instead it uses a psuedo-3D system wherein the environment is indeed fully rendered in 3D, but the camera only pans on a fixed plane that the player cannot control - much less view objects within it from all angles - thereby giving the illusion of 3D without truly achieving it. This was used a lot at the time (think early God of War and DMC titles for examples of this) in order to maintain a higher fidelity than - due to hardware limitations - was possible with true 3D. So he's essentially correct in saying this.

I remember playing this game when I was like 13-14 years old and feeling this intense sense of dread and despair throughout the entire experience. No other game has ever done that to me. And now they’re releasing a remake. I CANNOT wait.
Resident Evil 4 touches on both crime, gothic-horror, dungeon-styled fantasy & military fiction. No other game has touched on so many themes and still stayed consistent in tone. THAT is my primary reason for loving this game.
it was the over the shoulder perspective that completely changed everything for me. on top of the action and cheesy lines that i just had to love, this game was incredible for me. the remake is going to be CRAZY (hopefully).
The thing I appreciate the most about RE4 is the pacing, it's extremely well crafted in every part of the game, it's like the devs knew exactly when to slow things down or step up the action in just the right amounts. Considering it's a fairly long game for a third person shooter the puzzles and enemy encounters are placed with consideration to the player's mindset, I never got the feeling of getting bored or annoyed by any segments.
I absolutely just love the sound effects. All the enemies sound just perfect, even love their dialogue. And the cultists chants are so creepy. Probably has my favorite sound effects in any game

I usually go to the left for the herbs, killing the woman. Enter the shotgun house, grab everything, get to the secret Dr.Salvador, kill him, run back to the village entrance, and have all enemies in a chocke point, use grenades and the shotgun and kill the next Dr.Salvador before the fight ends.
The point where Leon uses the binoculars on the small dirt road, If you shoot a villager and don't enter the village dr Salvadore won't show up. It can get a bit crowded on that small path but atleast all the enemies come from one direction... And no Salvadore.
If you’re a gigachad, you go left to the chainsaw guy waiting at the farm door, kill him and loot the ruby, then book it in the shotgun house and kill the second chainsaw guy to get another 10k
Nah. The best way is to shoot a Ganado from far away to make it chase you, then go to the village entrance. After that, kill the Ganado that you triggered to start the siege. If you're at the village entrance, the 3 Ganados won't spawn and you can just wait until they get close, shoot one in the head and kick a lot of them. Chainsaws won't spawn, only one enemy direction, lots of damage with minimal gun usage.
When he said "This is the story I wanted to see continued", I realized that we never really got a proper sequel to Leon's journey, he appears in RE6 but not as the protagonist, sharing the stage with another 7 or so main characters and we could say RE6 was more about Ada and Jake than everybody else. Then Leon leads the 3D movies which was cool but they arent a main entry. Then he gets RE2R which was amazing but takes his story backwards instead, and now we will get him in RE4R, which again its cool but takes his journey backwards. Capcom needs to give him his solo main entry game again, RE9 or RE10, but a solo game, not this all over the place 7 protags game like RE6 where there was so much going on to follow or care. Its crazy how he is the posterboy of the franchise, and yet in 17 years his story has hardly advanced, if at all. This is the story I want to see continued too.
@@DeadpoolX20 9 will end it. I feel like after that they should introduce normal joes to horrifying scenarios. Standalone survival horror RE titles. @@biteme9505 That would probably make the most sense-- if they do want to include Leon in any form. playing as Rose Winters would be the same as playing Jake Wesker in 6-- you get to have your fun superpowers, but you get none of the suspense that the story itself is trying to push.
RE4 seemed like the perfect storm. It just nailed all the elements that make a great action-horror third person shooter title. I think it all just comes down to great design and amazing vision, not necessarily one particular aspect. The first thing is that the shooting feels psychologically satisfying. It was as if Mikami and his team decided to start making a game just based on the idea of making shooting as satisfying and fun as possible. And damn, how they succeeded. Everything from the laser reticle, to reloading animations, enemy hit reactions, poping sound of a headshot, even the intensity and moments of time at which the gamepad vibrates. Top that with the aspect of crowd control, which takes some time getting used to, and which makes you always be on your toes. Then there's the excellent level design, insane cinematography of all the action, fun campy story, and incredible sound design. Also, the game has masterful pacing. The ebb and flow of the game is superb. The high intensity action and big set-pieces are mixed with periods of exploration, treasure hunting, inventory management, light enemy encounters, light puzzle solving, It's all here. There's plenty of opportunity to really take in the experience and absorb the world that it creates. All of the explosive set-pieces were earned. For every cabin fight or military island attack, you had a half dozen 'catch your breath' and tension building areas, and these areas never outstayed their welcome. The other thing is that the enemies, and the enemy encounters are so well done. Every battle feels like a scenario that has been planned out meticulously, the way the enemies seem to hem you in and force you on the back foot, the way they escalate and have you on the edge of your seat, the way the environments are used to create a unique encounter each time. It perfectly utilizes each combat arena with specific gimmicks and creative hazards. The game is so good at creating this environment for player freedom and experimentation, while also making the enemies capable enough to push new combat experiences through their varied actions. And all of this is done with the same basic mechanics that you had since the beginning. Then of course the game has memorable boss battles as well. I still can't decide whether RE4 is the game of that generation or Metroid Prime. RE4 was also the game that basically graduated Mikami and his team into the hall of the game design gods.
Couldn’t have said it better myself! RE4 is a masterpiece. Village didn’t come close to recapturing what made it so special. I’ll definitely get the upcoming remake but unlike RE2 and RE3, it really doesn’t need one. Only downside is it made Leon’s popularity explode. Leon was awesome in RE4 but I’m sick of him being in every damn CGI movie and really hope he isn’t in RE9 or Rev3.
Foe real This is one of the Best games is played in my life and one of my favorite videogames, alongside Fallout New Vegas, Dead Space 2, Dead Risign 2, Resident Evil 1 Remake, God Of War 2, Red Dead Redemption 2, etc.......
RE4 is in my top 10 greatest games of all time, I really think it is a perfect game. I can't think of any actual flaw in it, being perfectly honest. Maybe the Island section isn't as fun as the other parts? But even then I loved the fight with Krauser, the ruins, and, of course, the regenerators which were amazing. I REALLY cannot think of any flaw. Every section is satisfying, fun, atmospheric; the difficulty is perfectly balanced for the player, everything just works. It's a perfect game. I like how you mentioned Metroid Prime at the end. I remember when it was released for the GameCube back then - it was straight 10s everywhere. I never finished it because I was a kid and only got to play it for a while (my friend owned a copy) and all I can remember was thinking "this is one of the most amazing games I've ever seen. Why is this so good?". Even as a kid I was extremely impressed by the pacing and the quality of everything. I definitely need to actually play through Metroid Prime all the way. The sad part is that MP is much less accessible than RE4 (RE4 is everywhere)
I just re-played this a few months back; it is almost shocking how well it holds up. In fact, if it were released today as-is aside from some updated graphics, it would still be one of - if not THE - game(s) of the year
The controls are dated now it feels awkward to play at first, it does get easier as you play but it’s still awkward and can’t compare to modern control scheme. As a game though yeh it’s great. Holds your really well. This game made a big impression on me, makes me feel a certain way, the music also helps with that. The save theme is as memorable as the previous game.
The developers of this game did a phenomenal job all around, but one touch in particular that's easy to miss is in the credits after the end of the game. The scenes they show there depict the villagers living decent lives before being infected with las plagas, and the town becoming a nightmarish place before Leon arrives there.
One thing I love about the enemies is how they don't always just rush you full on, they'll run at you but as soon as they get closer they slow down again and at least give a bit of time to react. Just finished my very first playthrough yesterday, almost done with professional mode and then ima replay it again with the prl 412 and typewriter, gonna try to switch between the two so that it doesn't become too boring using just the prl.

Easily one of the greatest games ever made. It’s weird how much people just don’t seem to realize it revolutionized video games. This came it on GC the same year as god of war, and shadow of the colossus. And yet for their incredible artistic accomplishments, neither of them influenced games in the years to come like RE4 did.
Odd statement. The ripple effect of Shadow of the Colossus is still felt across gaming all these years later. You're looking at the topic strictly from a 'They made over the shoulder shooter genre and now it is everywhere" perspective, but you are overlooking the artistic impact that SotC made on countless games that took inspiration from its gameplay, art style, mystery, structure and general mood. I'm not denying the impact RE4 had, but you should rethink the impact SotC (as well as Ico) made on gaming. They're the centerpieces for the whole "why games are absolutely art" discussion that needs to happen every so often with ignorant people.

In fact I'm really not sure what point you had in making that comment at all, other than arguing about a point of discussion no one made. Hearing about the sound mechanics in this game reminded me of something; this may be a well-known fact by the great majority of people who've played this game before by now, but this goes for people who didn't know. Whenever the Ganados say "Detrás de ti, imbécil" during the village section of the game, that's Spanish for "Behind you, idiot". It DOES help a lot to avoid unnecessary hits; and personally as a native Spanish speaking person it does often scare the crap out of me when I'm not expecting it lol
I just remember being impressed that Capcom didn't completely butcher the Spanish language. Rather than Hollywood-style mainland European Spaniards, we ended up getting legitimately frightening village peasants with scythes, chainsaws, and shit. The writing might be all over the place in this game, but the atmosphere is absolutely stellar. The commitment to the village aesthetic and intelligent use of the language are definitely two big factors in why I like the atmosphere so much.

I can't understand why so many people put it on a pedestal but then turn right around and admit RE5 was bad when they're a stone throw away from being the same game.
RE4 is like the videogame counterpart of the Evil Dead Series that knows when to make scary parts "scary" and fun and awesome parts "awesome", while at the same time not mix them all together at once.
Exactly. I greatly admire the evil dead triology as well as resident evil 4 and they definitely do share similarities. Now that i think of it, you know what would be interesting?ash in re4 universe. It sure would be insane to watch him chainsaw ganados and battling Salvador.

Ashley is overhated. She’s actually a great companion character and if she dies it’s completely on the player since you have full control over her. She’s not that hard to manage, once you learn to manage her I think she actually adds a lot of the gameplay. Edit: also when she pumps her first when Leon shoots the ganados off the tram it’s honestly adorable
This game is a timeless masterpiece, I do not find myself beating and playing a game over and over again more than I do with Resident Evil 4, since I first got the game in PS2 and now on PC. Can't wait for the remaster.
The music was so good too. The save room music perfectly captures the vibe of the game while being more relaxed while you take a breather in the typewriter room. I used to be scared to play this as a kid and years later finally beat it and it's always stuck with me ever since.

I always wondered what the villagers were saying. Good thing The Act Man is here to provide 100% accurate translations to us non-Spanish speakers 👍🏻 One thing I disagree with: While RE4 is absolutely a masterpiece and controls better than what came before, the older RE games play just fine. Tank controls are divisive, but they’re a hump worth overcoming to experience the classics.
Re 4 still had the tank controls and that game is considered to have great controls more people need to give tank controls a shot it ain't the best for modern games but it ain't bad at all
I'm currently playing the GameCube build via Dolphin. This is my first time ever playing RE4. I've never watched video reviews or walkthroughs of his game. In 2021 I had my first interaction with the game. I've been blown away at the visuals, motion capture, face animations and general cutscene cinematic direction. Resident Evil 4, even if it's from 2005, it's a thoroughly modern game.
You know, I really took for granted how great the facial animation is because I thought it was mocapped as well, it's fucking nuts they did all that by hand
That ending credit sequence, its a small thing but man it tells a story thats so good. They didnt have to do that but im glad they did, gives me chills every time i see it.
This game used to freak me out as a kid when my dad bought it for our PlayStation 2. I mean I had nightmares about it when I tried playing it as a wee tyke. But at the same time, I was drawn to it. Something about the gameplay, music, monsters, inventory system, weapon selection, the merchant, and so many other things called on me to keep playing, to keep experiencing that mix of terror and thrill, until I finally finished it and appreciated it for the action-horror masterpiece it is. This game was the scariest, yet one of the most fun games of my childhood, and I still play it over 15 years later. It deserves every inch of respect countless gamers have given it over the years
I had the same but opposite experience. I was too afraid to play it as a 9 year old. I remember being swarmed in the first village and never trying the game again. This video has convinced me to get it on Xbox!
IIRC RE4 Leon is just a few years after the Raccoon City Outbreak so technically this is Leon at his peak in all things, even in his sense of humour which is why RE4 is damn good
9:37 "It's an unforgettable sequence" This couldn't be more true! I used to play this on the Wii as a kid. We're talking 10 -12yo here. And ever since I came to this part, I've never forgotten it. I always remember being terrified, locking myself in the house and trying my best to fend them off. That chainsaw guy gave me a lot of trouble!
One thing They did explain in the game that Luis Sera had taken medication to resist the Plagas infection. There is a note that says they tried to infect him, but to no avail because he took that medicine to kill the plagas before it hatched. They had to wait till the medicine ran through his system completely before they can infect him again. As for the executioner. I just assumed that the infection was taking too long and decided to just end him. I guess they had a plan to have Leon save Ashley, pretend to be the hero, and then help Saddler take over America, but later figured "Hey, why bother? Kill him and make a better plan."
I remember being 17 when this RE:4 came out. Together with a friend we went to buy it, got back home and played it together all evening and night. It was and still is SUCH a good game. Was blown away how well the combat system felt with the 3rd person view, how nerve-racking it was getting cornered in the village, seeing the Chainsaw Ganado for the first time and realized that guy just won't die. We played on normal, as you had to complete the games once to unlock Professional difficulty. The memories of the bosses, the enemies, the weapons, the merchant! I have and always will love this game. And damn I'm glad I had a gamecube, and damn the game looked good and ran so good! And it's crazy with the development of the game, how much trouble there was scrapping versions one after another, ending up with this beloved gem of a game.
My story is pretty much the same...and about the only fun thing working retail is being able to occasionally throw out a, "He He He He...Whata'ya buyin'?" and "Got some good stuff on sale, stranger." It's weird I never realized that the dismemberment mechanic for Dead Space was inspired by RE4...then I thought...OH, so that's where Visceral got the idea for Issac's gruesome deaths...in fact...IIRC the death animation used for the U-3 where he chops Leon's leg off is directly referenced in Dead Space when that game's unkillable monster that you have to run from and eventually face, kills you...he does the same thing...chop off your arm, chop off your head, chop of your leg and hold it in the air like a side of beef...
I thought the same about how they changed Leon in future games. It's really sad to see that a character like Leon who was so vastly different from the rest of the cast would end up being exactly like the rest of the cast. And for those saying that years of war and bio-terrorism dulled him down, he's literally in Spain watching grotesque horror, watching enemies from the ceiling to snack on him like praying mantises, duels with highly-trained soldiers using just his knife - and how does he respond to half of these situations? With a shitty pun, a cheeky pick-up line or a badass, ridiculing statement towards his enemies. Leon's always been the joker of the protagonists to me. He's clearly talented and he *knows* how dangerous the job is, but he's not here to bitch and moan - he's here to get the job done and doesn't respect his enemies because they're beneath him in skill level. He quite literally toys with his enemies; he had no reason to waste a bullet on Salazar's speaker, but he did it to fuck with the guy and cause his ears to ring for a moment. He's the perfect protagonist to rival people like Wesker, because he's confident in his abilities and puts cocky assholes in their place, whereas Chris is the guy for heart-to-heart moments. Everyone of the protagonists should feel different to play as, because they all have different personalities. The fact that Remake Leon tries to steer him back into the "I'm a good boy who wants to help the people of Racoon City hurr durr" shtick is unfortunate because it would severely mimic what Chris already does. Please Capcom, let Leon be a cheesy, womanizing bastard. Don't censor every instance of him flirting with people or making shitty jokes - if it really bothers your Western localization team that much, at least rewrite the people he talks to to reject him or something, don't take away what makes Leon into what he is.
Wasn't Leon kind of a good boy back in RE2 considering this was his first experience with Umbrella related incidents? Take my opinion with a grain of salt though cause I never played the original RE2.
You describe Leon, like he's an 80s action star with oneliners and whatnot.. I like that too, but maybe a little bit more nuance is not that bad to add.
When I first fought Jack Krauser, I had ran out of ammo before I got to the actual fight with him, so all I could use was the knife! It made the fight feel a hundred times more intense and badass!
This game was masterful. The first game I 100% and actually tried challenges like pistol only, knife only, etc. The mercenaries are just fun, side stories great, and always going back to the og campaign to find every possible treasure.

If we talk about survival horror in RE game, then only RE 1 remake and RE 2 remake take the cake...every other RE game cant even compare...and the old RE 1 and RE 2 just have bad graphics compared to the new... so after seeing the remakes the old ones are not scary enough....but any other RE game, beside RE 1 remake and RE 2 remake, are not survival horror.
A good RE game is also RE 3 Nemesis original and thats about it.

Y'know I'm actually gonna back up Acting Mail Man in defense of Ashley, because there are times where having her stand behind you while you're slaying Ganados can really stroke your ego.
@@abc-ug5ym Have you seen how fast RE 4 combat can be? The skill ceiling for the game is incredible.
The aiming will always be dogshit but yeah, it’s a good game
My dad even knows who The Merchant is, he may only know him for his laugh and quotes, but it's good enough.

The Act Man: "For the first time, Resident Evil was rendered in three dimensions."
Code Veronica: "Am I a joke to you?"
Edit: Just realized, Code Veronica wasn't even the first 3D Resident Evil game.
Lmao code Veronica is a joke. Even if it’s the real re3
I thought of this exact same joke as I was listening to the video 😂
@@BloodDrunkBunny code veronica is great
Technically speaking, Code Veronica isn't actually fully 3D (whereas RE4 was).

Did you enjoy the remake
Resident Evil 4 touches on both crime, gothic-horror, dungeon-styled fantasy & military fiction.
No other game has touched on so many themes and still stayed consistent in tone.
THAT is my primary reason for loving this game.
Finally! Somebody has perfectly put into words why I adore this game so much!
And sci-fi horror.
it was the over the shoulder perspective that completely changed everything for me. on top of the action and cheesy lines that i just had to love, this game was incredible for me. the remake is going to be CRAZY (hopefully).
I’d say RE2 and RE4 were equally the best ones.
Yes 4 was revolutionary but the RE2s story, setting and characters setup RE4.
RE4 is PEAK Resident Evil. It is the first Resident Evil Village before Resident Evil Village

100% one of the best games I’ve ever played. Always hated how you couldn’t run while shooting at the same time, but looking back… that was the entire challenge and most of the moments you feel like you’re about to take damage or die, would be taken away without that part I felt was annoying
9:54 run to the tower go up the ladder but stand by the stairs and aim down you'll get burned maybe once or twice but you'll live and use the eggs from chickens to heal :)
You can also spam climb up and jump down and have I frames most of the time doing it
I usually go to the left for the herbs, killing the woman.
I definitely want him to make an appearance in RE9. It’s likely that RE9 will continue and probably end the Winters Family Saga.
@@DeadpoolX20 9 will end it. I feel like after that they should introduce normal joes to horrifying scenarios. Standalone survival horror RE titles. As much as I love Leon, Chris etc playing as even a mild badass in a RE game feels off. I'm hoping after 9 closes out the winter saga we get more straight up survival horror. Hell, they could introduce different types of monsters and I'd be fine with it. Doesn't have to be zombies. Though I'd prefer it.
I agree I want to see more of specifically Leon's story, he is my favorite character after all.
@@DeadpoolX20 imagine him be the main protagonist in re 9 and then theres Rose Winters too...
Best RE4 review on the internet
Couldn’t have said it better myself! RE4 is a masterpiece. Village didn’t come close to recapturing what made it so special. I’ll definitely get the upcoming remake but unlike RE2 and RE3, it really doesn’t need one.
Only downside is it made Leon’s popularity explode. Leon was awesome in RE4 but I’m sick of him being in every damn CGI movie and really hope he isn’t in RE9 or Rev3.

@@Bucketheadhead yeah. Skyrim and the witcher 3 also makes big impact in gaming era. For now, the latest games which makes big impact into the gaming era is Red Dead Redemption 2. Im pretty sure this game will age like a fine wine
The first time fighting in the village is one of my favourite levels in all of gaming. The endless possibilities in such a small space, how you want to fight them etc and the chainsaw scene are stuck in my memory.
Tutorial without mercy 101 here sir..... that was when Game studios on the AAA gave some care about important stuff for games
I feel like if the President's daughter went missing in Spain that'd be a massive international incident. Better send just Leon Kennedy to find her.
Leon IS the massive international incident, HUBBA HUBBA
hey man they took notes from when the US sent one guy to a heavily guarded fortress to stop a nuclear threat from a bipedal tank along with a terrorist group with superpowers apparently
@@itsjustvin7630 and he fought a tank while on foot, an invisible cyborg ninja man, a guy who likes to play cowboy gunslinger, a literal gas mask wearing psychic with telekinetic powers, a sniper using a stinger missile launcher and his genetic clone. I like the part where he can pretend to be dead by spilling ketchup all over himself to escape a jail cell.
I still remember the time when me and my brother would sit in front of the Tele hooked up on a ps2 and playing this game. It was so chilling at times, even now after so many years we still talk about it and have a laugh or two. Those were the good times of gaming
Ahh yes the time where companies really care about their games.
Yup now RE games are just souless pandering trying to relive the series glory days.
Imagine how much they might screw up RE4. I don't want that to happen.
@@nathandelagarza4898 Check out re4 hd project, it's almost finished.
Agree..piece of art they make
@@nathandelagarza4898 They already did. It's called, Resident Evil 4. I assume most people started with RE4 but it set the franchise on a very bad path.
As a big fan of re4, having beating it at least 100 times, on 4 different consoles, plus pc and the weird iOS game - I completely agree with everything you said. It truly is a masterpiece.

Rewatching this a year later because I was just so happy The Act Man covered this but now I'm even happier knowing he remembers The Donkey Kong Country Show.
The fact that a game that is all one big escort mission is a masterpiece still baffles me. This game is just that good.
I hate escort missions but this game has a special place in my heart
Ashley is overhated. She’s actually a great companion character and if she dies it’s completely on the player since you have full control over her. She’s not that hard to manage, once you learn to manage her I think she actually adds a lot of the gameplay.
Edit: also when she pumps her first when Leon shoots the ganados off the tram it’s honestly adorable

This game is a timeless masterpiece, I do not find myself beating and playing a game over and over again more than I do with Resident Evil 4, since I first got the game in PS2 and now on PC. Can't wait for the remaster.
You and I both sir.
A masterpiece without doubt

The music was so good too. The save room music perfectly captures the vibe of the game while being more relaxed while you take a breather in the typewriter room. I used to be scared to play this as a kid and years later finally beat it and it's always stuck with me ever since.
Welp, here we are a day after RE4 Remake got announced, watching this in the hopes they do this game justice.
Just hoping is isn’t horror focused.. loved running and gunnin
@@Jomael954 it's gonna be both
@@djanithegamersfm lol after seeing that “gameplay” I don’t have high hopes but will still def get the game. Just tired not a fan of the limited ammo horror style of games, just isn’t as fun… esp when the zombies take 1000 bullets to kill
@@Jomael954 There's no reason to believe they'll make it like RE2 remake in that regard. RE8 isn't that scarce with ammo and enemies feel like they have just about the same amount of health as in RE4. It's literally a first person spiritual successor to RE4. (except now it even has 3rd person mode)
@@Madchimpz interesting. I skipped those first person games because i felt it was def gonna go for that limited ammo drop style… but tbh I don’t know how I’d feel about resident evil in first person… I think cod got me tired of 1st person games. I had no ammo lmao….and man I hope the knife isn’t a “limited use” weapon lmao like bruh wtf it’s a knife 🤦🏽♂️
I always wondered what the villagers were saying. Good thing The Act Man is here to provide 100% accurate translations to us non-Spanish speakers 👍🏻
One thing I disagree with: While RE4 is absolutely a masterpiece and controls better than what came before, the older RE games play just fine. Tank controls are divisive, but they’re a hump worth overcoming to experience the classics.
You're the best youtuber, good sir.
Absolutely agree lol. It adds to the immersion imo
Every Metal Gear Game Reviewed when?
Re 4 still had the tank controls and that game is considered to have great controls more people need to give tank controls a shot it ain't the best for modern games but it ain't bad at all
Tank controls aren't really my problem with the older games, it's those goddamn camera angles.
Why is Resident Evil 4 A Masterpiece?
Because it is. End of story.
I cant wait for the remake!
I just hope they have the Laser. I don't want no damn crosshairs

Bro, i swear i beat this game more than 20 times and i still find myself wanting to do it again. The replayability on it is INSANE.
You know, I really took for granted how great the facial animation is because I thought it was mocapped as well, it's fucking nuts they did all that by hand
Yes re4 is worthy of being called a master piece "uhh excuse me, sir?" ❤❤
That ending credit sequence, its a small thing but man it tells a story thats so good. They didnt have to do that but im glad they did, gives me chills every time i see it.
Apparently they got rid of it in the Facebook Quest 2 VR version.
Re4 has gained massive respect in the RE community. Ask any fan and they will rank it in the top 3
IIRC RE4 Leon is just a few years after the Raccoon City Outbreak so technically this is Leon at his peak in all things, even in his sense of humour which is why RE4 is damn good
That verse was more fire than Leon's spin kicks 🔥🔥

"It's an unforgettable sequence"
This couldn't be more true! I used to play this on the Wii as a kid. We're talking 10 -12yo here. And ever since I came to this part, I've never forgotten it. I always remember being terrified, locking myself in the house and trying my best to fend them off. That chainsaw guy gave me a lot of trouble!
One thing
They did explain in the game that Luis Sera had taken medication to resist the Plagas infection.
My story is pretty much the same...and about the only fun thing working retail is being able to occasionally throw out a, "He He He He...Whata'ya buyin'?" and "Got some good stuff on sale, stranger."
It's weird I never realized that the dismemberment mechanic for Dead Space was inspired by RE4...then I thought...OH, so that's where Visceral got the idea for Issac's gruesome deaths...in fact...IIRC the death animation used for the U-3 where he chops Leon's leg off is directly referenced in Dead Space when that game's unkillable monster that you have to run from and eventually face, kills you...he does the same thing...chop off your arm, chop off your head, chop of your leg and hold it in the air like a side of beef...
I still don't understand the VR censoredship, in the remake they also removed the ballistics line by Luis in the cabin
I just realized you *perfectly described Wacky Wohoo Pizza Man* from _Dee Emm See._

Did you try the knife stun loop?
Yeah you can just cheese him with the knife a corner.
This game was masterful. The first game I 100% and actually tried challenges like pistol only, knife only, etc. The mercenaries are just fun, side stories great, and always going back to the og campaign to find every possible treasure.
