Remington Returns: The Revival Of An Ammunition Giant

- Remington Ammunition filed for bankruptcy in July 2020, amid one of the hottest markets for ammunition makers in recent memory. The bankruptcy filing presaged the ultimate collapse of Remington Outdoor in September of that same year, and the assets of that conglomerate were auctioned off to the highest bidders. Ultimately, Vista Outdoor, owner of Federal Ammunition, CCI and Speer, purchased the assets of Remington Ammunition and got to work returning the plant to its former glory. Watch the American Rifleman Television segment above to learn about Remington's redemption.
"This is one of the largest ammunition manufacturing plants in the world. It's Remington Ammunition in Lonoke, Ark.," said Mark Keefe, NRA Publications editorial director. "It was set up in 1969 by DuPont, who owned Remington at the time. They do it all here. Cases, bullets, centerfire rifle, centerfire pistol, rimfire and shotshell. This is really one of the great manufacturing successes in the United States. Up until 2020. Bad leadership [and] bad financial decisions resulted in the employees here getting a notice saying, 'Company's bankrupt, we're going to be sold, we don't know if you're going to have a job.' At that point, Vista Outdoor stepped in and bought this plant. They're ammo people. That's all they do. And this is the story of Remington reloaded."
The Remington Ammunition plant was constructed in 1969, and over the course of several years, machinery, materials and manpower shifted from the company's original facility in Bridgeport, Conn., to the new building in Lonoke, Ark. DuPont, the owners of Remington Ammunition during the shift to Arkansas, sold the company to an investment group, RACI Acquisitions, and changes came to the facility. In 2007, the company was purchased by Cerberus Capital Management, and in 2010, it became part of the Freedom Group of companies. After a 2018 bankruptcy filing, the company continued to struggle, and the collapse of Remington Outdoor Company in 2020 provided an opportunity for its acquisition by Vista.
"We bought Remington because it is literally once in a generation that you might have this opportunity to buy such an iconic brand," said Jason Vanderbrink, president of ammunition, Vista Outdoor. "I mean, [a] 205-year-old American manufacturing ammunition business, that is so complementary to Federal, CCI and Speer. We viewed this acquisition as a must-have acquisition."
Once Vista Outdoor took over management of Remington Ammunition, it began by bringing back furloughed workers. Supply shortages eased with Vista's supply network, and manufacturing lines roared to life once again.
"For the first time, it feels like we work for people, from our direct management all the way to the top, that understand ammunition, that want to make ammunition and want to make good ammunition," said Jimmy Lawrence, ballistics engineer, Remington Ammunition. "Ultimately, any business is in the industry to make money, but that should be, in my opinion, second to product safety, product innovation and product quality. I believe we're now in the hands of a company that genuinely believes ammo should be good ammo or it shouldn't be on the shelf."
Over the first 18 months of Vista's ownership of Remington Ammunition, the facility added more than 1,500 new employees. The ammunition giant announced that, at that time, it had increased centerfire-handgun ammunition production more than 40 percent, while shotshell production increased 15 percent. Additionally, the company added "millions" of new primers to the market.
"We know what the capacity is, we know where we're at today. Every day gets better, so every day, we make more ammunition than the previous day," Vanderbrink said. "But when we first turned the lights on, there wasn't much ammo being made. When the shift was over and the lights went off, it was sad to see. I can tell you that Big Green is roaring. The workforce is behind us, they're behind us 100 percent. The state's behind us. The Vista umbrella, right now, is really excited for things to come out of Lonoke, Ark."

Thank you Vista! Thank you Remington! This 'comeback' represents a bright light in a politically challenging time.
Vista can take Remington and actually make it into a valuable company again.
Otherwise, the news will say in 2024 "Remington has declared bankruptcy... again..."

Bean counters ruin everything, penny wise dollar foolish.
Guess who has a commanding share of Vista? Your buddy George

This country needs more companies like Vista to step up and do the right thing. A huge thank you from me and my family for saving an American icon. It's a shame this couldn't happen for Winchester
All gun related industry, need step up and push for banning of assault weapons, more strict gun ownership.....that would be any company being responsible. Help stop this far right lie, DNC is trying to take away some's one and only freedom......owning and shooting guns......
Is Winchester a bad brand? I bought 50 bucks worth because it said portions got donated to folds of valor is that a lie?
Winchester still makes rifles and ammo last i knew. Sure they aren't what they were pre64 but sheesh that's been awhile now.
@@TodayJunior-p8b no. Winchester is a fine brand. not the elite brand they once were, but fine.
Remington was a war company ww2
As someone who both grew up with firearms and knows the Remington name, as well as someone who once lost a manufacturing job, thank you all very VERY much to everyone involved for bringing back Remington. I don't mean to be dramatic, but I really did tear up a bit seeing this. P.s. Just recently I opened a box of Remington 30-06 my late grandfather handed down, I believe from the late 70's to early 80's, as well as picked up a new box of Remington 22LR for my own boy to plink with. Keep it coming, my American heroes!
silver tips are the best
Dont feel bad, i got a little misty eyed too haha
Save that ammo

As a Vista employee up in Anoka MN I'm so proud of you guys down there! It was a struggle but you are coming on strong! With an iconic brand as Remington in the Vista brand along with Federal and CCI I know in my heart that you will have a strong work force and be a big player in the industry.
Have they started making more primers for individuals to buy?
@@tacticalrabbit308 Our local Scheels has had primers on the shelves since fall.
@@tacticalrabbit308 Bramstank, I'm sure they'll be up to speed in no time. Alway's American & always Buy American, Quality Job One. In over 45 yrs. of using the Remington brand, rifle & ammo, not one failure. To me that speaks volumes.
@@tacticalrabbit308 Primers are made by thier CCI division and they are all making them as fast as they can . Unfortunately the military contracts have all the 3 primer manufacturers snowed under with orders. We reloaders are always last after they load their factory ammo brands and the military contracts. I would bet its at least another year before we start to see any return to good availablity maybe 2. They also have said they aren't able to get their raw materials. very well, in their desired quantities, to make the primers, as their is Still a "Supply Chain" materials shipping issue that has plagued the USA for the last 2 years sadly. (We caught them stacking container ships off both coasts for months.) Then they moved them farther out at sea so who knows now. Some shipping issue!
@@tacticalrabbit308 Yes, you can find primers now, but... I used to spend $13-$15 a thousand. Now they're @ $100. Much like Remingtons 22LR Golden Bullet. I've bought many thousands of rounds from Wally World for $8.88 for a box of 550. Last time I looked, they're $42 for the same box. So yes, you can get ammo and reloading supplies now if you're willing to pay through the nose.
I am pleased that "the big green is back". I use a lot of Remington ammunition, and prefer it to many other brands. The prices are reasonable. The quality is appropriate to price, caliber, grade, and use. The availability is vey good in my a.o. Each caliber of their products that I use, works well in my firearms. All my guns go bang when they're loaded with Remington ammo.
I'm a blazer brass kinda guy. Don't think I'll ever switch from them

Remington brass is good stuff.
The rimfire stuff is garbage the centerfire stuff is decent

Wow, I don’t usually have a heartfelt connection to a company but hearing this about Remington is awesome! I wish all the folks back to work there the best, and will once again be looking to buy their products. I love the brand and the the fact that it is USA made. It’s fantastic to hear the employees speak proudly of what they do and to know Remington is alive again.
yeah this is not good by any stretch
Glad to hear Remington is back.
AMEN !!! Remington ammo has been a huge part of my life for 50+ years, love to see them back. In particular are their Corelok Ammo !
Thank You for making/posting this! I am glad and thankful that Remington has done this comeback!
Thanks Vista for investing in Remington! Thanks to Remington employees for staying and working so hard to save the American company!
Hope this continues to be a good news story. Keep the machines humming !
I am thrilled to see this report of the Remington Ammunition comeback in Lonoke, Arkansas. Years ago my trips to Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas took me past Lonoke. I always wondered who operated that facilty. It's uplifting to see production restored there, the positive attitudes of the people and the rebuilding of the Remington name.
I always believed in Remington even when everyone else left and now look there back !!
I turned back on Big Green in 2013. In 2022, nearly 10yr on, I saw the newer Golden Saber line 9mm, .40 was much better. I only hope the 2020s era 🏭 will be + & mgmt will be strong.
hahahahah even when your 700 blew up???
@Rob Dorgan I don't own a 700 series rifle. Also this topic is about Remington brand ammunition not guns. Watch the video....
Remington has always been my favorite ammunition and one of my favorite firearms. It was a sad day when I heard they were filing bankruptcy. Welcome back Remington. You're in our prayers.
Great video, glad to see a great ammunition manufacturer make a comeback.
My wife and I had to go to Lonoke a couple of months ago and we drove past the factory. I pointed it out to her as we passed by on the interstate. I used to live and work near there but she had never seen it. Glad to have it back and proud it is here in Arkansas.
Yet, common ammo prices are still well higher than they were 4-5 years ago. It's nice to see Remington's rebirth, but the problem remains.
Supply and demand my friend
Maybe more supply brings down the prices. 🤞🏻
There not coming back down. If anything there going way higher.
They wont ever go back to the way it was but hopefully it will get marginally better
Yea it’s called inflation
This is a place I would love to work. I give you ALL a huge amount of credit. I unfortunately know from experience that once even good employees feel beat down, that can be impossible to get back. Im even more proud now to use Remington ammo. This type of management and energy is what America needs.
Awesome!!! Welcome back, we need a giant like Remington in the right to keep arsenals stocked and pass the 2A on to the next generation.
Great to see a company recognise the skills of the workforce.
Man it is nice to see a company investing in and making American products. Was tough to find my beloved green ammo boxes here for awhile. Now my inventory is getting back to my comfort level of my go to ammo brand.
Very nice video. I was a DuPont and Remington employee for 36 years before I and lot of others were laid off. In my case I was only a few weeks away from turning age 58 when I would have been entitled to an unreduced pension. None of that mattered to the company's owners at the time. Remington's sole purpose was to provide assets which the owners could borrow against. Remington was literally bled dry. I am thankful that I could go elsewhere to finish my career and not be witness to the sad ending.
The name Remington is iconic among manufacturers, thank you Vista ammo for bringing back such a great company and that i and others can show our support by buying superb ammo made by Remington .
As a hunter, I'm very glad to see that they are in full force again. A plinker can use about any bullet or shot shell, but a hunter needs ammunition that they beleave in. I only use Remington Corelock in my hunting rifles. It has never failed me.
maybe im a fool , but i love big green ammo.
I shot a lot of Remington in the 1990s 2000s. By 2010 the company went 📉. The small arms Golden Saber bullets looked bleah! The 2020s ammunition is by design better.
So happy to hear big green is back up and running strong. Remington ammo is all I shoot ( the best in my opinion) . I hunt with a Winchester 94 but have always shot Remington ammo . It’s been very hard to get the last few years looking forward to restocking the cabinet. And thank you for putting all your former employees back to work. They know that they make quality and take pride in that . I wish you all the success that comes when you put people as the main priority.
I tell people if you can only afford two rifles, get a 5.56 for personal defense and a 30-30 for everything else. I know there are other rifles but a 30-30 is just so dependable and accurate.
Hopefully more ammo and the main thing quality ammo!
Yes, they need Hank Hill: King of the Hill level QC employees to 🔍.
Remington is an American icon. Welcome back.
I worked there a few years ago as a part-timer on the security staff. I really enjoyed my time there. People were really nice and as a gun person, It was fascinating to see how ammo was created on a mass scale.
I’m extremely happy that Remington ammo is in the hands that seem to be dedicated to the Brand. I hope their rim fire ammo has come up to a standard I’ve not seen in a while. I stopped purchasing and using Remington rim fire ammo because it was not as accurate as it once was, didn’t seem to function as it should have and I had a number of issues with it. I will be purchasing their rim fire ammo once again and I hope it performs as well as it did many years ago! Welcome back Remington ammo and all of its staff!!
My sentiments also...waiting for rimfire quality to return, especially 40gr RNL standard velocity.
Thanks for sharing. I've been wondering about them. I've always liked Remington ammo.
I grew up in a town next to Bridgeport, Connecticut. I remember the enormous Remington Arms plant. My grandfather worked there as a tool and die maker in the first half of the 20th Century. By the mid-1980’s the plant was deserted and looked like Berlin after WW II.
So does the first Remington plant which is in Ilion, NY. Ask the hundreds of ex employees how they feel about Remington. Greed and NY STATE closed them down.
@@larryapl So? Illion, NY? You know where jobs are really needed? In a place that's business friendly, with good infrastructure? MISSISSIPPI. Another plus: we're not buried under snow and ice 2 months out of the year. All these legacy industries act as if they're still depending on water wheels and steam boats to operate.
Good job for arkansas help get the factory running.
Great news, Great Name and hopefully an even greater future.
As a life long citizen of the Mighty Razorback, this story gives me hope for the future and warms my heart like very few other things can. I'm very proud of the work ethic that the majority of my fellow Arkansans have and I am absolutely certain that Vista has made a fantastic acquisition in both the facilities and the workforce. It's great to learn that Remington ammunition is back and the future is looking really good for everyone involved. God bless.
I also was brought up with remington from the fifties. It is like a gold standard, foundation to the ammo industry. I have used it in my match rifle right off the shelf and was entirely impressed with performance. Keep America strong, buy local.
Same here....22 shorts for my single shot squirrel rifle, it was about 50cents a box back then. I used 40gr standard velocity in my model 582 when I had it...very reliable performance back then.
So good to see Manufacturing companies coming back to life and workers being hired again. Especially in this sector.
I have ran countless 525 bulk packs, glad to see they will be making more!
I love the American spirit. Welcome back. Never quit!
I bleed green. Always have and always will. I have too many Remington firearms to mention and all are sighted-in with and devour only that which comes from a green and yellow box. I have been to that plant several times and have to say that it is one of the most impressive facilities I have seen. However, it was the people that worked there that impressed me most. So happy to see they are back on track and have the support to do what they know and love.
Thanks Vista, Remington has been my practice and carry ammo supplier for the last 23 years. Golden sabre bonded is my carry ammo choice in .357 sig for 19 years and I feel very comfortable that it will continue to keep me and the public safe for years to come!
For years and years, the primary ammo brand I typically purchased for rifle and handgun. So glad to see it coming back.
Remington is a big part of who I am as a hunter. From my dad to me Remington is a decades old staple in my life.
Maybe just maybe they start churning out their own damn calibers like 35 Remington..... Remington shut downing their hunting caliber production was like the start of WW2 when they quit making all the older ammunition, when WW2 ended, they didn't bring back any of the older ammunition. I aware there were very limited civilian sales due to wartime rationing and production being mobilized. I can't count all the rimfire calibers, that are firearms that have a box ammo more expensive the gun, where each shot fired is one robbed from every future generation to have that chance. Remington just abandoned their gun owners and people that bought into Remington calibers, back in the 1940's. Hopefully this restarting the plant will not be in the same fate for less popular guns and calibers that people use and have used for decades.
i wish all ammo manufacturers, firearm manufacturers, firearm accessory manufacturers, gun rights orgs( national and state/provincial) and regular citizens and others would create a super lobby combined for Canada and America and finally get 100% absolute firearm and defense rights, own and carry! in both nations
Well we have one big one but they are usually useless.
I'd love to see that but Canada is so far gone with gun rights it would take a majority of the nation to completely reverse their stance on guns. What do they even have left, didn't they recently ban all semi auto rifles and all handguns? They were even going after shotguns but looks like they backed off a tad on that.
I don't see anything but bolt actions and lever actions being legal in Canada within a decade.
Australia too.
We are WOKE FUBAR.

I always have believed that whenever one door closes another door opens. Knowing what Remington has gone through due to poor leadership followed by a rebirth of the brand due to good leadership is heartwarming for the people who work there and for those of us who rely on their products. Good fortunes to the big green!
Glad to see this! I grew up shooting Remington ammo some 50 years ago. About 20 years ago I stopped buying it, because at least with the .22 LR I was running into way too many failure to fire rounds, in some cases up to several rounds out of a 100. So yes, this is great news! And I really like those retro Peters 12GA blue paper shells!
Glad to see Remington returning. I have always enjoyed their products. Welcome back!
I've been using "Green Box" 30-06 ammo since the late 70s. It's always been accurate & consistent. Deadly on deer too. Instant lights-out most of the time. I've never had a core-lokt bullet fail to expand or break into pieces. Premium performance at a budget price.
Thank you Jason Vanderbrink, your company has kept American made alive. Excited to see! I wish we could see other companies keep their products made here. Perfect timing as I need to restock!
This guy was to busy worrying about Government Contracts to worry about the average American. Wake up.
Restock and pay 4 times what the ammo is worth...yeah
I usually by a competitor but got a box of 200 rounds of 9mm Remington after seeing this video. It took me about 50 rounds of Remington vs Winchester to decide that my two Smotn & Wessons both shoot more accurately when shooting Remington. You folks are now my ammo supplier.
I have used Remington ammo for decades. I supposed to a large degree because that is what I was brought up with. My dad bought predominately Remington ammo, especially rifle. Their 30.06 ammo was always pretty consistent in quality and performance. Decent price too. It is really good to see all the people back at their jobs, too. It is cool to think about the that when you buy a product.
30-06 180gr Bronze tip!!! All I use! Drop em in their tracks!!
I fired a 30.06 rifle along time ago in Lochaven Pa with my friend he told me fire at the side of a tree this was in the 1970s,that gun had some power, first time shooting though and I was in my 20s.Starting now to get into guns now though even though I am older.
30-06 150 soft nose. Is all I use and it drops them in their tracks. Remington ammunition is the best in my eyes.
@@curtiswalker6219 love those bronze tips. Are they still making those? I use to pay $19/20 for those and that was at a high price gun store in Cleveland, Mississippi called Paul’s Discount 🙏🏻🇺🇸💯🤙🏻
I also am happy to see this, but I have been hunting for over 50 years and when I see ammo available at my local store for the hunters at a reasonable price I too will be a believer
Awesome news. I hope Remington can make a full recovery to be what and where they were a decade ago. But also hoping that bring back all of the older calibers and gauges of ammo. Thank you Vista and Remington. Long live the Big Green.
Remington your the best, it’s good to see you all back in action what all Americans love 🇱🇷
Thanks for bringing this content to the people. It’s interesting I was just looking at a box of 410 Remington and the thought of wondering how they are doing actually crossed my mind so I am extremely happy to hear about the acquisition.
Thank you vista!!!!! You just restored my confidence in Remington and I'm looking forward to being able to buy200 grain .35 Remington core lock bullets for my Marlin rifle, so I can go deer hunting again . God speed!!!!!!
Glad to know that the Remington facility in Arkansas is producing product and enjoying success. Used to travel past it on trips between TX and TN as a child and I’d always look for and catch a glimpse of the place. 👍
Yepper me as well
Same, I have passed by that plant too many times to count. Great news.
Core-Lokt in 30-06, 180 GR SP, is and always has been my only ammo I use for deer.
When it hits, so does the deer. It hits the ground and there is NO tracking.
I probably have enough on hand to last out my hunting life, but I will still get more.
Thanks for saving this amazing ammo.
I’ll be using some CL 150gr this year, last year I hit 2 does with Federal 165gr and while the track was easy they sure did go a long way (big big field) for being hit with a .30-06
After years of inability to find anything but cheap junk Aguila 22 rimfire (which isn’t loaded strong enough to cycle any of my semi-autos), I was thrilled when Remington 22 rimfire, my favorite brand, reappeared. I have bought 12 boxes of 525 rounds each so far, and am shooting it every single week. Not a single misfire so far, excellent accuracy, burns clean, and cycles the action perfectly. I am SO glad they are back.
Now…what about primers!?
Cheers to Vista Outdoors. I work at the federal plant in Anoka, and I’m proud to share the space!
So happy to see this. Good news is hard to come by these days. Congrats Remington!

About time but it doesn't matter until it starts showing up on the shelf at reasonable prices , all of this off the chain prices for ammo to gouge the consumer , prices have doubled or more , greed will be the downfall of humanity .
I agree.
Pas the cost to the gov. Pass the savings to the civ. Market.does not matter , either way , we the taxpayers are paying for it , hey Ukraine , you're welcome , how about a reach around?
I would have to agree about the price. But the middleman could be the greedy one's!
When your gov starts war all over the world. Plus does everything to attack the gun man. This is what you get. If you think the prices are going back down. Share your pharmaceutical drugs.
everything is more expensive, ammo prices are lower now than they were a year ago for common calibers. Inflation is a bitch, hope your enjoyed that stimulus check because it cost you over 10x more in the long run.

Remington, just like Colt, Smith and Wesson and virtually most other firearms and ammo manufacturers went downhill when they sold out to investors. Remington was once a respected company but they squandered that reputation and our trust. I would like to trust them again and buy their products, but they will have to earn that. This video, taking ownership of the situation and identifying the problem, is a giant step in that direction. I wish them good luck.
A great story for Remington and a very well produced video.
Never been a Remington man but I will start to spend my money with this team of Americans
Thank you for a very refreshing success story to bring a icon organization back to life. I was an avid trap shooter in my younger used and I shot thousands of Remington shotgun shells. Keep up the good work and keep pumping out that ammo.

Thank you vista I'm 53 I started shooting Remington ammo then I got away from shooting it because the quality went down. I'm glad to see it coming back. I shoot a lot of ammo and I would love to come back to the big green but you gotta prove that you deserve our dollars.
