Thiem; in the eyes of real tennis fans, not the fanatics, you are a Great Champion, competitor and we thank you. Several times you were treated unfairly in this tournament (disrespect at the press conference, inexplicable suspension of match against Djoko on Friday and having to play a Grand Slam championship match playing 4 days in a row while your opponent had been resting since Friday) yet you gave no excuses, beat the best player in the world in 5 amazing sets, did your best and were even able to win one set in the final. In my eyes you are the REAL CHAMPION OF THE 2019 ROLAND GARROS. As a fan of the sport, I have great respect and appreciation for that and I thank you and salute you!.
Nadal, the myth of your sportsmanship got a big hit today, and it saddens me because I have been a fan of you from the beginnings. For the better of the sport and fans, you had a great opportunity to raise up and ask the tournament officials to postpone the match for Monday so that Thiem could get at least one day of rest but you chose not to. What a shame and disappointment! Is winning "AT ANY COST" is all that matters to you now? If so, how do you think the doping allegations that have followed you are going to look now, knowing that Marita Koch and co., Jarmila Kratochvílová and co., Florence Griffith-Joyner and co., Lance Armstrong and co. and others have never been caught?
Roland Garros, you are very incompetent! No roof and no real leadership making the necessary adjustments for the benefit of the sport and real tennis fans. Shame on you!

Nadal was always great at the net. If you give a look at his game in the beggining of his career, you'll see that he was a lot more aggressive and would go to the net more often, once the game on hard court was a lot faster. Now that he's getting older, he's starting to see that that's a very good way to shorten the points on the clay court as well, just like Roger has been doing it.

The achievement is even more impressive when you look closer... Federer's 8 at Wimbledon is an amazing achievement... but Sampras won 7... Djokovic's 7 at Australian open is an amazing achievement... but Federer won 6... These records will be broken...
Nadal's 12 at French Open is out of this world extraordinary because the next closest is Bjorg at 6! Only 2 players have won more than 3 French Opens. This record will stand the test of times and will NEVER be broken.

      @shaunhumphreys6714 3 года назад +1

yes that is the best nadal has volleyed. the one where he slides into the splits the volleys it into the centre of the court, ive never seen that before done. they were superb volleys, just as good as the serve and volley era masters. but volleys have to be even better on clay. nadals volleys were actually the key to victory over thiem here. thiem only knows how to hit the ball as hard as possible. hes pretty much completely copied nadals top spin lasso forehand, the whole motion, but i think because of his initial ball strike, the follow through to get the top spin is not working, or hitting it that hard negates the top spin, because the ball thiem hits it just comes back to nadal completely flat. knowing thiem is just going to whack the ball as hard as possible from far back in the court, sometimes standing further back than nadal does, nadal can just work the point to get it to the net as soon as possible. im surprised thiem cites federer as his inspiration, because apart from the oe handed backhand, thiem has nothing in common with federer. so given thiem is clearly a clay court player, you would think nadal and borg would be his inspiration.

    The year is 2029.
43 year old Nadal steps onto Nadal Court (formerly Phillipe-Chatrier).
For the final at Rafael Nadal (formerly Roland Garros).
It ends with him beating Dominic Thiem, 11 times in a row at the French Open final.
In this, his last ever game. He turns over to Dominic and says; "It's all yours now, so don't mess it up"
He walks away in to the Paris sunset, never to be seen again.
The only thing he leaves behind is a legacy that will never be beaten.
He is the man, the legend, the king...Rafael Nadal.
    All Hail The King!!!

he wont dominate. theres lack of versaility, lack of netplay. shots are just hit flat and hard.as possible. he will tire himself out, just as he did here, as he had to go five sets with novak, hitting the ball maximum hardness every shot. even as young as he is, his stamina and body couldnt take doing the same in the final against nadal. theres a lalck of wisdom there, no strategy, no use of spin or brains. he will get bad tendonitis of the elbows very soon in his career with long injury layoffs, and that will force him to hit the ball less hard. federer can play a gamestyle that definitely nullifies thiem. and thiem, he cant beat nadal at roland garros. no where near. and nadal is thirty four now. so when nadal retires, even if thiem does win lots of french opens, he will never gain any credit for clay court brilliance, having been unable to beat even an aging post peak nadal who was the master. so thiems career after nadal retires will be meaningless. i wont have any interest, as he has not proven himself against anyone worthy. they can barely beat federer at the age of thirty seven. federer beats them still most of the time including thiem. thiem this time just about beat djokovic.in five sets at french open. which means obviously fedal and novak at peak destroy thiem and the rest of his peers. nadal even beat tsisipas at the last atp tour finals-which is nadals worst surface-indoor hard court. medvedev seems well suited at beating djokovic as they have very similar game. i like him, because he doesnt whack the ball really hard, he directs the ball and gives it plenty of depth and movement, stratigically moving the opponent around, just as novak does. and thats why for a while medvedev looked like the best of these lot. tsisipas then took over, then thiem took over. those three are the best of their peers, but thiem is definitely clay court orientated. but weve seen he can reach hard court grand slams semi finals too, at a push. but definitely no good for grass. tsisipas is just an inferior copy of federer.
