      I mean... with fortnite money all these compounding messes might still not push them into the red. I just hope that they didn’t overestimate how much venture capital theyr going to get in order to make the store more... anything

    • @generalpenny

      @@benzur3503 Epic is just arrogant. I mean, everyone knows their launcher and store were made exclusively for Fortnite. Then they said "Let's buy us some stuff to shit on Steam" without even trying to be trully competitive. Every single person taking a shot at them is saying the same thing, and they still act like children who wanna be noticed. Not to mention they had the nerve to tell Steam to change their revenue policy, when the only reason Epic's is better is because they have nothing to lose at the moment.
      They're gonna fuck up more until they become an actual competitor, which will probably happen when the BR trend goes down and Fortnite loses some of irs playerbase.

      @@benzur3503 Fortnite money won't be forever. Once the Battle Royale phase passes and all the little shitkids and poo-babbies move on to the next thing, that well will dry up faster than you can blink. And once that happens, Epic will fold, because they threw all their resources into a virtual store built on a foundation of spaghetti and the promise of infinite time and money to eventually get it right.

    • @davidk7439
      @davidk7439 5 лет назад

      @@ToozdaysChild I was initially going to respond to you by saying that while epic may take huge losses with their store if they don't actually improve it by the time BRs aren't popular anymore, they wouldn't told because of the steady stream of Unreal Engine money.
      Thing is, at this point, they've expanded so quickly as a company to keep the fortnite money rolling that they may be too top heavy to recover.
      Their arrogant practices of yoinking exclusive deals to force customers over to their platform (Especially titles with cult/hardcore audiences, who really, REALLY don't like this shit) kinda shows they don't know how to work in this market space of store fronts, either.

      @@N00BSYBORG Every time someone uses the term "monopoly" when referring to Steam, I want to reach through the internet and slap the shit out of them. Steam is the least monopolistic "monopoly" in existence. A monopoly isn't just that you are dominating the market in whatever your niche is. A monopoly is using your power to prevent people from competing with you. Valve has pretty much never used any monopolistic practices. They even enable you to sell your own Steam keys so that you can avoiding giving Valve a cut of your sales. They've never retaliated against the likes of Bethesda, CD Projekt, EA, or Ubisoft, or Epic for selling games on their own platforms.
      So anytime someone uses that monopoly excuse to defend Epic, you can safely discard their opinion as worthless.

Just offer the games at full price with a cash back offer, i.e sell the game worth 60$ for 60$, but give 20$ back to make the customer effectively pay 40$. Epic is so financially illiterate it's obvious that they're just a former fledgling studio that struck gold and have no idea what to do with it.

And regarding the issues with using the other non-Steam client, well that's why I mostly buy from GOG, with a few exceptions. Also, I just want to say that GOG's last year profit being about $4,800 is disappointing. If more publishers were willing to give them a shot, they would be doing much better.

I expected it to be a bit longer and expand more on the world. With all that said I'm not counting the side activities, which there is a bunch of. So this is a demonstration of how NOT to compete with Steam.
    1. Buy up exclusivity. This is going to piss people off and is just a bad PR move.
    2. Set up an imitation shop that lacks most all of the coveted features of the system you are imitating. This will not only piss people off it will drive them away.
    3. Have a sale before your site is ready to support it. This is just another way to drive customers away. When fraud protection is being triggered because your store front has no way to bundle purchases and items need to be physically removed from the store to stop the sale on them you are going to piss people off.

Because there is no sale. there is no point in waiting to get it. smart customers on other indie games just go "eh i get it when its five bucks on GOG or something." and because they get steady income and no lows, development is ongoing to this day.
