Tia Maria is even better than Kahlua in the dish. I have also done a drizzle of Baily's over the top and made Baily's ice cream that went well with it. Kahlua would work well in this way as well.
*these smaller-sized recipes are a great idea! Especially great for budgets like mine. Thing is, you don't save on the ingredients, as they're packaged in amounts that are more than the recipe requires, so you have to spend the money anyways!!!* But you can make it twice with the amount of ingredients!
Thank you Julia for recipe for two because it’s just my husband and I so this perfect!! You make this look so easy and it seems actually seems so simple! I just need to find gluten free lady fingers which I do think some company makes but I don’t remember who. Thanks for sharing 😊
This is the recipe I didn't know I was looking for to celebrate my birthday at the end of this month. Thank you Julia! I'll think of you while I enjoy it.
This is my go to for New Year's Eve. I also swap out the lady fingers for chocolate Madelines for more booze soaked in.😊😊😊Add chocolate covered Expresso beans and a strong coffee punch. You'll be up to see that ball drop!!🎉
So I think the majority of us were told not eat raw dough, batters, etc. Because of salmonella woth the eggs. In fact, pasteurized eggs are fine to eat raw, like what we saw in this application. However eating raw flour is actually the unsafe part of raw doughs and batters.
Yeah, it's somewhat common for eggs in Europe (where this recipe originates) to not be washed and then stored at room temperature. The chickens are vaccinated against salmonella. It took me off guard walking into a home there that had eggs sitting in a bowl out on the counter, lol.
Can you make more smaller dessert recipes like this? Also can I skip using Rum if I don’t want any alcohol in this dish or is there any substitute? Thank you!
Note that only about one in 20,000 raw eggs contains salmonella. Buy or make pasteurized eggs if you are concerned. I'm just not that lucky so I don't worry about it.
ATK published a large 'For Two' cookbook (650 recipes) about 10 years ago (paperback, 2024 10th anniversary hardcover), a smaller Dinners for Two book (no desserts though) a few years later and a Vegan for Two book (there is a dessert chapter) a couple of years ago. They have a Baking for Two cookbook (both sweet and savory) coming out early next year.
Sous vide bath at 135°F for 75 minutes. The eggs are a bit trickier to separate once they are pasteurized. ATK has another tiramisu recipe where they cook the yolks with the sugar, salt and cream over a saucepan of simmering water to 160°F.
Apparently not. If you are, then use pasteurized eggs, sous vide raw eggs at 135F for 75 minutes to pasteurize or cook the yolks with the sugar, salt and cream over a saucepan of simmering water until the yolks reach 160F.
You can buy pasteurized eggs or you can pasteurize them yourself. Do some research to find the correct techniqué but you boil the eggs to a certain temperature (135f?) and it kills all the germs but leaves the egg looking raw. 💕🌞🌵😷
Just this month: "Egg recall linked to salmonella outbreak in 9 states that's left dozens ill". - USA Today. You don't get salmonella poisoning from fully cooked eggs, and pasteurized in the shell eggs are no longer available at my local grocery store.
I had tiramisu in Italy from several different shops, and I didn't taste any alcohol in it at all. 🤷♀️🤷♀️🤷♀️ I loved the tiramisu I had over there. I strongly dislike the tiramisu I've had here.
Traditional tiramisu was meant for kids to eat in the morning so it didn’t have any alcohol (yes, Italian children drink coffee). Over the years, Marsala was added by some to give it a sweeter flavour. And then that evolved to other types of liquor but you are correct - Tiramisu doesn’t need alcohol.
Love tiramisu, no matter what the size. A small pet peeve though - why do so many folks, Julia included, mispronounce the name of the cheese? There is no ‘r’ in the first syllable of the word. Picky, I know but…
You are one of the best cooking teachers on TV and the 'net. I've loved watching ATC and CC since the beginning. So happy you're on RUclips.
What is ATC ?

I love that this a smaller recipe. It just the right size for me, myself and I 😊
I love your guest list! 💜🤭
Serving three 😊
You could really impress your date with these recipes! The smaller portions are so intimate.
I make mine with Kahlua instead of rum and it’s delicious. I don’t use egg yolks either

This will be my bday cake next week. Thank you!!!😊🥰
I thought she said this was a tiramisu for two, or 3-4 people??? But I only see a tiramisu for one…
I would get dirty looks from my wife if I brought a tiramisu of this size home.
The more the merrier 😊
Hahaha I with you only one serving 😊
I have always enjoyed all of you guys' different recipes. 😊
I am loving these “for two” recipes!!
Hi Julia 🌹 I love the recipe 😍 not too big though not too small , just right 🥰 and easy ❤️thank you 🌹🙏✌🏽
This is my husband favorite dessert. Thanks for your recipe
Perfect timing…planning to give a go at my first try this week…looks very doable…🤞🏽
I love their/ this Version very much 👍👍
Definitely a Winner.
I love tiramisu because like you said it's not so sweet. Thank you Julia!❤❤

This looks great! Can the egg yolks be omitted?
Can you make more smaller dessert recipes like this? Also can I skip using Rum if I don’t want any alcohol in this dish or is there any substitute? Thank you!
Is it safe to use a raw egg?
Yes.
But if you're unsure you can usually find pasteurized eggs.
Is it safe to eat uncooked eggs?
@@lauriegivens6465
I know that. She hasn't cooked anything. I wouldn't eat that for any amount of money.
I think you meant to say "Best-Ever Tiramisu for One". Will definitely be making this!
Tiramisu for 2? Unheard of. I make the full recipe for our household of 2. 😂 Just gets better with each passing day! 😋
Note that only about one in 20,000 raw eggs contains salmonella. Buy or make pasteurized eggs if you are concerned. I'm just not that lucky so I don't worry about it.
Tiramisu is one of my favorite dessert but after seeing the uncooked egg I don't know how I can bring myself to eat it now.
When do we get the book, desserts just for two that should be something on your radar your drawing board whatever can’t wait!❤🎉

@@user-ih5rs7is2m Like I said early next year apparently.
I really want to know the mascarpone cheese should be room temperature or not?
I don't think it matters, the hand mixer breaks it up.If it is extra stiff- leave it out till it softens some.
No it shouldn’t make a difference.
No it shouldn't. Recipe link in the description.
Julia, here in Brazil 🇧🇷 we call lady fingers "champagne biscuits". But no champagne on the recipe if u make them from scratch.
Is there a good substitute for the rum?
YUM!!!
VERY,VERY NICE TY👍❤️
Anyone can tell me what amount she used on the heavy cream, she whisked up into stiff peak? Thank you so much
I scanned the recipe real fast (see the link in the description box for this video). I think it said 1/4c but the subscribe pop-up covered it up. 💕🌞🌵😷
It would be good with Kahlua and or Tia Maria instead of or in addition to the rum,
Looks tasty but the authentic, original, version doesn't use alcohol.
I am not allowed to make tiramisu anymore... that size dish you made would be one serving for me.
How do we pasteurise the eggs please ?
Sous vide bath at 135°F for 75 minutes. The eggs are a bit trickier to separate once they are pasteurized. ATK has another tiramisu recipe where they cook the yolks with the sugar, salt and cream over a saucepan of simmering water to 160°F.
You said I can get this recipe for free….NOT!

Looks awesome!
Is there an alcohol free alternative to rum?
You are not concerned about raw egg yolks?
Apparently not.
If you are, then use pasteurized eggs, sous vide raw eggs at 135F for 75 minutes to pasteurize or cook the yolks with the sugar, salt and cream over a saucepan of simmering water until the yolks reach 160F.
@@charlieharris3240 Thank you for that...

I would have added Kahlua
There is no whip cream in tiramisú.
Cant access the written recipe unless you pay or join something. Ridiculous
That is pretty stingy of ATK.
Say it with me: mas-car-PO-nay.
Not MAR-ska-poan, please.
Marrss-ka-po-nay & "who's ur sister" 👌 also...if you use an iced tea glass and an immersion blender it's waaaay more efficient 👍
Or, as i prefer to call it: Tiramisu for one, twice
If you dont want booze, there arerum flavorings.
Nah lady make your own cake like the italian nonas make they are the best at making tirimasu
aaahhh hem......this appears to be a single serving size :)
More smaller recipes, please.
No liquor for me
Raw eggs still freak me out…

Pretty sure the eggs are either pasteurized or the rum sterilizes any bacteria the egg may harbor
Me too, but I figure the rum kills everything 🦠😂

I wonder if the other word that gets mispronounced is tuRmeric
My money's on 'persillade' ( I've heard Julia say persil-aid and persee-odd) or possibly 'chalaza(e)' (cha-lays-a, call-ays-ee).
@@charlieharris3240 oh that’s even better

I don’t think every recipe calls for rum. My mother in law’s recipe doesn’t and it’s still heavenly.
I'd leave out the booze. It'll be just as good without it.
That’s pretty common. It’s perfectly delicious without it.
