Ok. It's settled. I gotta have one. I love my 560 super freek so much I figure the mini will be just as good. And darnit! That stonewashed blade just won't leave my thoughts!
I have the super freek I just got it a couple weeks ago. Prices for knives went way up I paid 250 and some change for it. Rather have it then the mini though.
I like it a lot....but at about $160. At $260 they are out of their freaking minds. Never....but guess what? BladeHQ is currently out of stock so Obviously there are a decent number of people that are drinking the butterfly cool aide.
Benchmade is doing an awesome job of splitting the market 1/3 will go lower I.E. Hogue and the other 2/3’s will go higher market Chris Reeves, possible Medford, and Three Rivers Manufacturing. Benchmade has gone insane on there pricing.
I actually bought the last one on blade HQ as it went out of stock after the submit order button was clicked. The blade cracked after the action got smooth and typically drop shut my knives. Already sent it back to benchmade and am not happy at all!
First of all great review. I own both a Super Freek and a Mini Super Freek. May I ask how many American knives you can think of with the same level of craftsmanship and same materials that are below the Mini Freek's price? I also own a couple of Benchmade gold class knives. Now we are talking $1000.00 + and the differences between the Mini Freek and the gold class knives is basically damascus blades . Now if we were comparing a Chinese made knife in about the same materials then yes the Mini Freek is high in price. I am not sure if the attention to detail is the same as American made knives. The easiest way to say this would be all American made knives are way over priced for what they are. But that is just how the knife world is. So yeah many of us accept that fact. S30V price and S90V price is quite different and solid carbon fiber is more expensive than G10. So I do not see the price of the Mini Freek as being too high. I paid $259.00 for mine shortly after it came out and I am very happy with the knife. But I need to make one thing seriously clear. I also prefer S30V over S90V as well. S90V has a tendency to chip and yes I know this to be true. So yes I would have been happy with the S90V and a lower price point for the Mini Freek. One of Benchmades knives I really feel is way overpriced is the standard Bugout. I mean there is nothing special at all about that knife. Plastic scales or what ever they call it? But it is just plastic with some mild fiber withing. Glass re-enforced I think would be a accurate description. The fit and finish is not anywhere near the Mini Freek at all. And at a price point between $150 to $170 is kinda nuts. Spyderco is another that is so overpriced when you purchase a USA model. So realistically the Mini Freek isn't over priced IMHO. Thank you for the review. I love hearing other people's thoughts and sometimes I even tend to follow the advice .
S90V is very expensive. More so than many of the other super steels. And it results in more tool wear during fabrication. Whether or not it's worth it to the consumer, it factors into the price, along with Benchmade's inflation.
That’s true, to a certain extent, George. But S90V is easy (inexpensive) to process compared to CPM-M4. It’s more expensive to purchase as a raw material, but on the order of $1-2 per blade. It’s not a cost factor - it’s an issue of what the market will bear.
Just one guys preference, but would have preferred to see the same g10, maybe a different color. Carbon fiber and s90v doesn't excite me. Keep the coated m4 or try some cruwear. I'm sure their material choices were justification to jack up the price, but I bet a cheaper, tougher, user edition would be a great seller as well.
The Moment they make this in a NON coated black blade in the full size super freak ... I will be buying it ? .... Do you think ill be holding my breath for while ?
It is Benchmade’s FIRM policy to use CPM-M4 only in coated blades, to avoid any rust issues. If you want naked M4, you’ll have to choose a Spyderco model.
My super freek is super smooth but all of my BM axis lock knives are. I think that super lightweight handle/frame gives it a slight blade heavy feel in motion that just aids opening and closing possibly making it seem smoother. Its a great knife. I know that!
In the realm of "super" stainless steels, I find that M390, CTS-204P, CPM-20CV and S110V all take a keener edge than S90V. If you include the non-stainless "super" tool steels, then you can add CPM-M4, K390, HAP-40, CPM-Rex45, CPM-CruWear and several others.
@@TheApostleP Thank you much, just getting back into it a little (ha) after some years. Ordered a k390 delica yesterday which will be my 1st 'supersteel'. -thanks again
Actually, no, I'm not. I just prefer that expression of the date. One of my life's great regrets is not joining the military, but when you graduated high school in the early 80's with honors, in the post-Viet Nam era, no one counseled you to join the military.
And yet again... Benchmade is out of touch. There are literally hundreds of quality and guaranteed competitive knives at much better prices. This is a great knife. And for 260 bucks, I will find another great knife as good or better at 125.00.
@@Southernknife_addict I wouldn't be interested in the s90v. Too brittle for the claimed increase in edge retention... Law of diminishing returns. S90v has its place, just not needed in a carry knife for me.
I picked one up second hand for $150 and am very pleased with it! My fanciest looking knife for sure.
How do I send some knives to you to have you sharpen them.Your sharpening jobs are flawless
Ok. It's settled. I gotta have one. I love my 560 super freek so much I figure the mini will be just as good. And darnit! That stonewashed blade just won't leave my thoughts!
Parkerized Split Arrow! Best clip ever!
Really happy to see you doing knife reviews again. :)
Love all my freaks with your edge.
I just bought the jade-M4 940, it'll be headed your way soon sir
Ha same here!!

I just dropped 300 on one lol

Excellent review
Its pretty awesome. I am getting one.
Great review Rob thanks. I've never owned a Benchmade yet but I just might pick one of these guys up whenever I find one on the secondary.
I’m pretty new to your channel, but I can honestly say I really enjoy your videos. Good stuff
I have both the Freek and a Mini Freek and love them both. I have a 940-1 but don't think I will pay the extra for the 565-1. Thanks for the review.

Nice review..I carry a 940 and to be honest it’s just the right size. So this offering would be to small for me too.
When a vendor comes out with a "mini" version of a knife, I expect the price to go down. Silly me.
I love it but you're right about the price; it needs to settle down.
The trouble is, people pay the price because of FOMO.
drawing some blood there...seriously nice polished bevel and secondary edge.
When I saw the title, I was like "ok, it'll be as much as the 940 -2" Lol...
Great review! Is it just me or does the action just feel smoother on both sized super freaks than any other Benchmade?
Assuming they've all been cleaned up and oiled, seems about the same as the normal griptilian and 940-1 I have.
My super freek is super smooth but all of my BM axis lock knives are.

Why would someone take off that nice pocket clip? Maybe because he doesn't wear pants anymore due to lockdown?!?!
I think he’s from California. I won’t even attempt to understand what could be going on in that mind 😜😂
A year later and still consistently sold out. At least on BHQ.
You said you prefer M4 to the 90 that comes on the mini freak, where do you rank cpm 20cv among those three types?
What are your thoughts on Benchmade raising their price on blue replacement to $90?
nice
I like the knife, it's just way to over priced. Would much prefer the Super Freek
Which knife steel(s) would you say does like to get super sharp?

Like the hogue Doug Ritter mini better
Hi
I’ve gotta ask. Are you ex military? The way you give the date maked me wonder and I’ve been meaning to ask for a while.

You’re gonna find s90v with full carbon fiber scales for 125.00?? You let me know when you do I’ll take 5
