    GREAT CHANNEL - please keep it up ;)
    Would you be so kind as to try and find the time to do this comparison please.
    Both are very, very similar in price point.

    Hey Dustin, I have just discovered Samyangs briliant V-AF video lens range. There are currently 3 available (a 24mm, a 35mm and a 75mm, all T1.9 (which is f1.8), with 2 more being released next year (a 20mm and a 45mm). All them have exactly the same weight (around 280g), so if you are using them on a gimbal you can swap them over without having to readjust anything. Their optics are based on Samyangs existing f1.8 tiny but mighty range, but with some tweaks to make them more suitable for video...They have identical WB, their T-stop is identical, and Samyang has reduced or eliminated any focus breathing the stills versions they are based on may have had.
    The V-AF 75mm T1.9 version is based on the optics of the AF 75mm f1.8 FE, which you show in this video. It has a few advantages over the old stills version though...Virtually no focus breathing, it has a couple of extra control features, two built in tally lights, and unlike the stills version, it's now weathersealed! That is the part I found exciting as I have been put off getting the 75mm f1.8 due to lack of weathersealing.
    So if I get the V-AF 75mm t1.9 there is now even less reason to get the 85mm.
    Another exciting thing I got from this news is that if Samyang are going to release a V-AF 20mm T1.9, it suggests they might also release a lighter and cheaper f1.8 stills version that will compete head to head with Sony's big and heavy 20mm f1.8 GM. Now that is a comparison I would love to see!
    The only sticking point is the price...Here in the UK, the V-AF 75mm t1.9 is priced at about £529 ($865 CAD), whereas the 75mm f1.8 is around £349 ($570 CAD)...A difference of about £180 (about $295 CAD). That puts the V-AF right in the middle price wise between the 75mm f1.8 and the 85mm f1.4 II. Now I have to decide If the 50g extra weight and the weatherproofing really worth an extra £180, or should I just get the 75mm?

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад +1

      HI Alf, I too am really excited about the possibilities from the new V-AF lineup and can't wait to review them. As for your question, I guess I would ask how important video is to you. If video is a part of your workflow, then go with the 75mm. If it isn't important, you might want to go with the 85mm or the original 75mm.

    The previous Samyang/Rokinon 85mm f1.4 was really a good performer and the light gathering of the f1.4 on higher resolution sensors is a definite positive. Many ignore or just don't realize that it is a great pairing with the 'r' series Sony Alphas(especially indoors shooting with or without flash/lighting.

    I have the Samyang 75mm. Its one of my first beginning lens with full frame, i bought it because it was cheap, it does feel cheap in hand, and it doesnt have weather sealing so dust goes everywhere, even in sensor and in the lens.
    Later on, i found it gives very, very good photo compared to some better, more expensive lens.
    Sometimes i want to upgrade to sigma 85mm 1.4 but whenever i look at the photo, i dont feel that i actually need to. It's not too sharp but the image always feel soooo niceee, bokeh is nice, even more than enough, lightweight and comfortable to bring around. And you can get closer to the object with minimal focus distance 70cm compare to the 85. Wish it could be more premium.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  5 месяцев назад

      This lens is shockingly good optically. You might consider the V-AF version if you want a weather sealed version with a few more features.

    So I don’t wanna buy the 85mm..I wanna get the 50mm but also get the option of using crop mode on my sony a7riv to attain near the 85mm focal length and thats the 75mm focal length..would it be worth it to buy a 50mm f 1.4 and use it on crop mode to make it look like an 85 for portraits?i hope im clear enough 😅😆

    • @DustinAbbottTWI

      It sounds like for your application that this would work. You would obviously have lower resolution at 75mm (crop mode), but, depending on the camera, it could still be plenty.

    I have the Voitgländer Macro APO-Lanthar 65mm 2.0 Aspherical and the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM, so I do not need a 75/85mm Lens, but if I was going to get one, I would choose between the Sony 85mm 1.8 or the Zeiss Sonnar Batis 85mm 1.8 and it will be most likely be the Zeiss because it has optical image stabilization.

    • @acouragefann
      @acouragefann Год назад +3

      Curious - why is image stabilization relevant in a 85mm lens on modern bodies with IBIS? I find I rarely shoot below 1/100 because motion blur will be introduced by any subject on a high megapixel body below that and when landscapes are to be photographed with water or clouds to be smoothened, for exposures longer than half a second one still requires a tripod.

    • @DustinAbbottTWI
      @DustinAbbottTWI  Год назад

      I like both the lenses you mention, though I would be hard pressed to spend for the Batis when there are F1.4 lenses for less.

      @@DustinAbbottTWI I do not need aperture 1.4 and I do not like the budget Samyang Lenses, I spend my money very carefully, I rather wait and get very good quality. The Samyang 85mm 1.4 II are just a minor update of the old one, not like the new Samyang 135mm 1.8 which are new designed.
