  • There are lots of awesome advantages to making your own homemade products and in this video I wanted to share the wonderful and simple recipes I use as hair care 'essentials'. They all consist of natural ingredients so they don't contain any of the nasty chemicals found in a lot of mainstream hair and beauty products - anything we can do to reduce our risks of cancer and detriment to other animals is a wonderful thing!
My 55 days without waste challenge for Maui Dolphins; • Join Me to Help Save M...
I will do a video sometime in the coming month on products I think are great to buy - awesome natural, sustainable, vegan, eco-friendly commercial options.
The site I use to buy a lot of my ingredients; www.iherb.com?rcode=GOW915 - links to products are in ingredients below. My rewards code is GOW915 to save $5 on first order
    The natural hair product recipes;
    Shampoo
    - 1/4 cup liquid castile soap www.iherb.com/d...
    - 1/4 cup coconut milk - I have used this previously without refrigeration … but another option is to freeze your mixture into little bars and take out at shower time
    - 1 tsp benonite clay www.iherb.com/a...
    - 20 drops lavender & rosemary oils www.iherb.com/n...
    - 1/2 tsp vitamin e oil www.iherb.com/n...
    - optional 1 tsp xanthan gum www.iherb.com/n...
    Conditioner
    - 2 tbsp shea butter www.iherb.com/n...
    - 2 tbsp cocoa butter www.iherb.com/n...
    - 1 tsp almond oil www.iherb.com/n...
    - 1/2 tsp vitamin e oil www.iherb.com/n...
    - 20 drops lavender & frankincense oils
    ACV rinse
    - 2 Tbsp raw apple cider vinegar
    - 1/2 cup water
    - 5 drops essential oil www.iherb.com/n...
    Hair oil- leave in conditioner
    - 4 tsp jojoba oil www.iherb.com/n...
    - 2 tsp sesame seed oil www.iherb.com/e...
    - 1 tsp olive oil
    - 1 tsp grape seed oil
    - 10 drops lavender oil www.iherb.com/n...
    Dry Shampoo
    - 4 tsp Cornstarch
    - 2 tsp Cocoa
    - 5 drops Rosemary oil www.iherb.com/n...
    - 1/4 tsp Cinnamon & turmeric
Nasty chemicals I mention in this video to look out for:
    - Sodium Lauryl Sulfate

    - DEA Diethanolamine, MEA Monoethanolamine, TEA Triethanolamine

    That's so funny.
Today I went to the store because I needed a new conditioner. I initially wanted to buy something organic but also had an eye on the prices.
1 bottle of 'normal' conditioner is from 4 to 6 bucks. 1 bottle of organic conditioner is from 18 to 25 bucks!!! (Yeah, I live in Switzerland)
And now this video is in my recommendations :D
But I find it so stupid and unfair that you have to be 'rich' to be healthy or care for the environement.

It's like that over here in the U.S. too! I swear if commercial products didn't exist, the organic products would be much cheaper.

I feel you. Her proportions in this are too tiny for my afro hair. Plus all the ingredients are so expensive individually, just to mix them together.

You don't need conditioner. Apple cider vinegar is a great natural conditioner and is cheap. I've always used it after washing my hair with solid shampoo bars (natural ones) and it works exactly like a conditioner, you wouldn't believe it. Rinse your scalp with it then soak your hair in a bowl of apple cider vinegar diluted with water (to your liking) and it'll work. No rinse afterwards

I've already stopped drinking milk, i reduced significantly the amount of meat i eat, i try to eat chicken only 3 times per month, and in general i try to buy herbal based/eco-friendly products for my skin and hair care! I believe that as time goes by ,i will become better .

I'm a Qualified Naturpath and Aromatherapist and thinking of a tip for you, just let people know not to use the Lavender called Lavendula Augustifolia as it's toxic to Pregnant & Breatfeeding mums, young children under 7yrs, sensitive skin, and elderly as there kidneys and blood circulation can't process this type. It's the way the Lavender is processed. Can cause miscarriage in pregnant women. I hate when I see it in the Johnson & Johnson baby calming Body lotion and bath wash - makes me cringe
Was just a tip for you. You can read up on it so you know..

I'm absolutly blown away by how simple and effective this products are. In my country when you said your eco/bio etc people will laught at you and told that you're wasting money and it doesn't change anything for the planet anyway ;/ For about 6 mounths or even a year me and my mom we are more careful when we bought cosmetics. There are some chemicals that we disquality in our products. But I don't know about isopropyl alcohol at all..I made a dry shampoo, but right now I'm using a homemade spray for my scalp ;) After some time I noticed a positive change on my skin (I have acne). I still have it,but it's definetfly not that bad in that time in a month and the breakdowns isn't that hard like in the past. And I'm in 100% agree with you about this whole comercials and this 'need' for something we don't actually must have.

If you don't want to go to a salon (although I'm positive that there are vegan and cruelty-free salons or stylists out there) you could use Manic Panic which is vegan and works super well!

You can use honey :) make a mask with honey and distilled water then leave it overnight! Distilled water will let the honey produces a small amount of hydrogen peroxid and honey contains a lot of nutrients who gonna moisturize and take care of your hair. You can do this once a week and reproduce it until you get satisfied with your hair color.

In any case I have a question maybe you or one of your subscribers could answer. I'm new to going vegan, minimalism, and creating less waste. So, I'm learning. I'm wondering about the containers your supplies come in when making your own products. They're sort of like the plastic the shampoo and conditioner come in. So, what do you do about those? Recycle? this videos was super educational, thanks!! :) I didn't even know about some chemicals (maybe because they aren't allowed in my country bc I never saw them there). Don't forget about silicons, mineral oil and quats who are super toxic for the environment and have an occlusive effect on your scalp!
You put a lot of essential oils in your products, essential oils have a lot of benefits for us but I'm not sure if this amount is safe because they go trough the skin until the veins. It can be toxic to have a certain amount of them in the blood system.

that would be great to have a video about good products with out all the chemicals. i actually do have some problems. but i still have some product left of products. and i heard sometimes its good to change one product at a time so your body can get used to it. and if the body has a reaction to something then one can know which it is. instead of changing all at once.

I would be really interested in some store-bought alternatives for hair care! :) Some of the ingredients you use are really difficult to find where I live, but they might have the alternative products! :)
Really like your videos, educational without being preachy!

We need to get our suppliers to make better packaging, hemp plastics are coming to the market or reuse the plastic jars the supplies come in., it is good some of the ingredients are in glass. I do the same as making my own products for self care, thanks.

Plastic bags are against my religion LOL no but seriously I think plastic bags should be illegal I think plastic in general should be illegal it's disgusting to look around and see all the plastic water bottles and just all the waist it makes my soul cry to see how we've just completely trashed God's Kingdom.
I just want to say You're Beautiful and it's so nice to see someone else who cares about the world around them and the Earth that we're going to leave behind for our great-great-grandchildren I'd like it to still be here for them and for them not to be buried up to their eyeballs in the trash that we've left behind thank you for caring......xoxo

I find it funny that I literally manifested you about 3 weeks ago. I was wishing to find someone on youtube who does natural things and gives holistic advice but in a very feminine way with relaxing videos and then your little face popped up in my feed like 3 weeks later! HAHA!
