- A whopping 165 classic vans make it into this second light commercial vehicle compilation, in which there are many beauties to be found. Some of the vans might be familiar, others less so.
Panel vans once familiar on British roads and featured in this video include the likes of the Morris Minor van, the Morris Z van, Austin 7 van, Reliant Supervan III and of course the Ford Transit. Less common types include the Borgward photographed in Berlin, a DKW seen at the Goodwood Revival, Corvair van, Bedford PC van, pre-war Riley 9 van, Skoda 1203, and a Willam.
Please let me know in the comments which of these classic vans appeals to you, and if you have any experience of them.
Old vans feature across the channel now so please take a look around, try the channel search etc.

Another GREAT video Richard. Brought back memories of my first job after leaving school at 15, in 1965, for the London Evening Standard, delivering newspapers to local newsagents, firstly on a trade bike then in 1967, after passing my driving test, on to driving vans, which quite a lot where featured in the video, happy days.
Fabulous collection of old vans.., love it many thanks👍🏻
Glad you enjoyed it
Fantastic collection of vans there Rick. Great to see how many have survived after a probably hard life ! Thanks for compiling these for us. Take care 🙂
Some great pictures (as always), I love those Bedford CA, one of my two favourites in vans, the other is the Austin/Morris/BMC A55/60.
I have to admire anyone that manages to keep a van in the show condition. I have had old vans, A35 and a Mini and they were difficult to keep the MOT man happy. Rotter all of them, as was my Renault 4 car actually and everything from the 1950s!!! Thank goodness for KIA Piccanto Very interesting to oldies like me
Very enjoyable cheers
It is amazing that sp many of these have survived at all, a good collection RJ
Thanks! Yes survivors of most types are very rare now
Blimey I’m in heaven all these beautiful vans ! Loved the blue morris 700 ( marina ) van so cool very rare now and the pickups .
The mk1 transits are a particular favorite of mine to very nice…great vid thank you for up loading it 👍
dont know why, but cars do nowt for me . i love vans and commercials . really enjoyed that, thankyou.
No probs, old lorries and vans are popular here too :)
Absolute brilliant vid!!
Can’t beat a classic van!
So much character 👍🏻👍🏻
Great collection there Rick, enjoyed seeing them.
My friend once had an ex British telecom Marina van, he was an electrician and very often had it full with fluorescent tubes. Until one day he was in an RTA and all the tubes got smashed and he was covered head to toe in the dust !
I think the van had nearly 200k miles on it at the time ! Happy days
Being covered in powdered glass strikes me as being particularly unpleasant!! Thanks for looking in
Hello, at 49.42 you show a Post Office Telephones Morris van with ladder rack and you mention the “High” black rectangle wing mirrors. In 1967 I took my Post Office Telephones driving test in a van just like that BUT you had to have the wing mirrors twisted in the vertical plane. The reversing part of the test was only using those mirrors. Great memories. Thanks.
On the Post office telephone van I meant to mention that in 1967 they were all coloured dark green. I think it was around 1970 that it was decided to repaint all the existing fleet to the bright yellow. The Motor Transport workshops (MTW) painted the existing fleet by hand. All new vehicles came as yellow. The BT fleet size was over 40,000 vehicles.
Another great compilation Rick, love old vans, had quite a few different ones myself over the years. 🙂
Ha yes they can be addictive
I have a mk1 transit swb 1968 with sliding doors
It's a project I'm doing I've been obsessed with them since a kid
I'm 52 now stil a kid but a bit older 😂
Seen the h van in Portsmouth is were I live 👍
Nice selection there Rick, we had a couple of vans in the family when we were kids, a Hillman based '39 Commer, CMR 908, rotted into the ground in a field in Stoke St. Michael, then later a Bedford CA 'splittie'. My Uncle Sid had examples of Bedford PC and Ford E83W vans.
Your uncle had great taste!!! :)
👍👍👍👍👍
Felicitaciones desde Uruguay muy buena recopilación de fotos. Soy propietario de una hermosa camioneta commer1954 me intriga las pocas fotos que hay saludos
What a superb range of videos you produce! I was a mechanic working on British Leyland vehicles in the late 70's & early 80's. I saw many Mini vans as well as Marina based vans too. Keep the videos coming, they do make me feel old though!
Thanks, I try and get a bit of everything on here :)
Brilliant vidéo. I love the Transit Mk1 and Mk2. French détails, at 46'07 it's not a Peugeot J7 but a J9 ✌
Thanks for the info!
great van blog Gary from Crewe
Nice collection 👍👍👍
Mk2 Transit 4x4 for me...
Hello 👋 Interesting images of vans. Back in the 1960s a family who lived in the same street owned a Bradford van. I have never seen a Bordward van until now. I remember the Borgward Isabella cars on the road here. There weren't many. My family lived in the country in the early 1960s. We had bread delivered by van and it was a Bedford one just like the blue one with Civic written on it at the beginning of your video. It had a sliding door on the side. Morris Minor and Ford Anglia vans were a common sight on our roads here in NZ in the 1960s too. The ice cream Mr Whippy vans are exactly the same in colours as you have Britain. Very popular here , and I remember hearing the jingle before it would come into view while waiting for an ice cream in the street. Yours and Harleys videos always bring back memories of vechiles and times of the past. Thanks from Carl.
Brilliant mate 👍🏻

What is it about vans ?
I do love a nice van, was hoping to see a Commer 2 ton walk-thru, dad built several into camper vans back in the day
I'm sure one or two Walk-Thrus have appeared on here already, perhaps in the Gaydon lorry video, one of the steam fairs, or perhaps in the Commer-only upload? Thanks for watching.

I’ve watched most of your videos and probably have seen them, I’m just old and forgetful now 🤣
Thank you what a huge selection i hope your all keeping well next stop Summer PG.
Seeing the photo of the Corvan you show reminds me of a high school friend back in the mid-1960's had a dad with a Corvan 95 panel van for his work van. We used it occasionally on Friday nights to get pizza or burgers. It was the most gutless thing you could imagine with less HP than the model number would suggest. We would rock back and forth in our seats as if in a trials Austin 7 whenever it went up a hill!
Yet if it had been a perfect van with plenty of power, you wouldn't remember it the same way now I guess! Thanks for watching :)
Brilliant video 👍🏻
I'd have bought the green Austin van (22.09) for the number plate alone!
Those Corvair vans always appealed me. Especially the version with the big side door.
A couple of my friends had 70's Dodge Tradesman vans years ago.
Some lovely motors 👌🏻 my favourite channel on RUclips 👍🏻
Thanks Bob!!
That beautiful Riley was my favourite by leaps and bounds Richard. My first car was a '63 minivan .Sadly it was written off whilst picking my brother up from work . (1970 )
In January 2023 an S Cargo van complete with port holes (they didn't all have them) appeared just down the road from me. About a month later it was sign written in the local garage that it stood outside of and has been there ever since .It was moved for the Easter holidays presumably for safety, I hope they haven't sold it, I will check next time I am down that road. The Bishops wholesale newspapers were still trading when I moved from Southampton about fifteen years ago. As it happened I had the job of cooking dinner for the mother of the owner of Bishops but sadly she developed dementia and had to go into a home, lovely old lady. The Harrods electric van was still used in London for some time into the 1960 (maybe beyond?). I only know that as we had family who lived in London and you would often see them about though I have never been in the store myself. In 1974 I went to Brighton for the end of the London to Brighton commercial run. I still have a blurred photo of me standing beside 'Jones' van (a friend took the photo and gave me a copy in a paper frame so I couldn't complain about the quality!) A great collection there Rick thank you for the post. 👍👍
Great collection of van pics, I believe the cob project at the N.E.C is a husky being converted into a van which as had the side's filled in, strange that it as a four stud wheel on it when they were three stud, the latter cob van in the photo's I once owned how nice to see it again, sign written now, keep up the good work love your vids 😀
Thanks for following the goings-on here!
Favourites:
#1 1990 Nissan S-Cargo 4:55
#2 1998 Daihatsu Midget II 10:37
#3 2024 Aixam Pro e-Truck Van 52:06
😁👍
Quite a modern selection there!
In the 50's my father had a Fordson E83W van, it was very stylish and just like cars it had so much more character than the 'uninteresting' shall we say vans of today. Moving forward l had a Ford Escort mk1 van HCC869H 1.3 high compression engine, l loved it, a very lively pokey engine which moved the van very quickly when l needed it.
I like the old E83Ws too, have had a few over the years (first in 1989), thanks for watching
NOT one series 111 M O PICK UP mine cant be the only one left
I think there may be one or two in other uploads, quite a rare sight now
I used to Owen a Bedford cf custom van fitted with a rover v8 with a automatic gear box OWU107P
It still shows as registered on DVLA, although not taxed since 1988 so I doubt it actually survives
That is sad. It was a really nice van, expensive paintwork, custom body kit, V8 engine windows, roof rails, including the widest set of tires I’ve ever had on any vehicle. I still regret selling it.
Dodge A108 van had 108 inch wheelbase as opposed to the A100 at 100 inches.

the red bedford CF in llandudno is mine. and it is a CF facelift which still had the slant 4 engine & running gear, but were re-badged in 83/84 as the CF2 with the opel cam in head engine.
also the suspension is standard and the weller style wheels are off a land rover. they are a bit carlos fandango which gives it a slightly deceptive elevated appearance.
hopefully should be at the transport festival again this year.
Ah yes I think I mis-identified it as a CF2 once (or was that a different one? mmm not sure now)
@@oldclassiccarUK to be fair apart from the engines there's not much difference between the CF facelift & CF2. only a diehard vauxhall / bedford geek are aware of the detail differences (guilty as charged) :-)
