  • Our trip to Bicester Scramble October 2023 is the subject of today's OCC channel video, and what a classic car show it was - amazing cars everywhere - classic, vintage, retro and more recent. As this channel is about old vehicles in particular, they are the main focus of this video although I tried to include some of the newer exhibits to give an overall flavour of this event.
After a brief but fruitful visit to the Scramble autojumble hangar, I set off in the direction of the huge forward parking area. At previous runnings of the Bicester Heritage Scramble I've missed a lot of the cars parked up in the public parking, so this time I was keen to make sure I had a proper look around. It was definitely worth the effort, there were amazing cars to be found - I don't remember the last time I saw a rare SAAB Sonett V4 for example.
I then set off in the direction of the central display area at Bicester Heritage where again all manner of wonderful old cars - and several commercials - were to be found, all basking in the very welcome sunshine.
Highlights at this Bicester Scramble meet for me included the wonderful 1929 Talbot pickup in correct period garage livery, two genuine Jaguar D-Types, several Turners and BMW E9 coupes, Peugeot 604 GTi, a huge gathering of vintage Alvis 12/50s tourers and saloons, Vauxhall Velox PA, a Wolseley 18hp saloon in proper "oily rag" condition, a Sunbeam Tiger Police car (!), a twin-engined Model A racer/special, an Alfa Romeo recovery truck (with FIAT on the back), ISO Rivolta Lele, Maserati Khamsin, a pair of BMW Z1s, plus a delightful Austin 7 Swallow tourer.
This is a long video, probably the last "biggie" of 2023, but there were so many cars on show at this Bicester Scramble it seemed a shame to cut out a lot of the exhibiting vehicles from this upload.
The Bicester Heritage Scramble meeting is definitely one of my favourite must-visit events now, the cars, the setting, just perfect. Let me know in the comments what you think of this event, perhaps you were exhibiting?
This is the third Bicester Scramble meeting that I've covered on this channel, I'll include links to them and also the 2023 Flywheel event at the end of this one. If you're new here, thanks for calling in and please take a look around.

Rick You say it was a long video, however I have never seen such a varied and wonderful collection of cars. The time flew by I was stunned by the condition and amazing variation of vintage and classic cars. My take home cars would be the prewar SS Jaguars and also the amazing D Types. However the Riley’s were outstanding in condition and variety. The Alfa Romeo transporter and Alfa car was amazing. A cracking Video “Well Done”

Hi 👋 Well I'm pleased i viewed your video. I mentioned to you about my father owning an old 1948 Wolseley back in the 1970s. So it was good to see one in the show. My father's one was in better condition, but the interior was worn. You are right about the smell. Dad's one had a smell about it. It was a lovely old car. Suicide Doors, and the boot would open out like an oven door. I loved the 1970s BMWs on show. And the orange colored Alfa Romeo Montreal. A very rare car today. That Facel Vega would have been a highlight. Excellent display of cars . Thanks for your recording of it.

This video must have taken an absolute age to edit and upload. Some bobby dazzlers there what an amazing collection of cars. I wonder what the collective value would be. The Jensen 541 is stunning as is the Daimler Dart. I am not a great fan of replica cars. The Ferrari 400i puts me in mind of the Aston Martin Lagonda for some reason, I rather like it. A late friend of mine owned an Alfa Romero Giulia I loved it, he hated it after buying it and only kept is a short while and went back to his MGB's. I have owned quite a few of those various cars in the past. It never ceases to amaze me that cars back in the day that were run of the mill and nothing special such as the Citroen Visa, Metros and Ford Escort are now at classic car shows and have a fan base.

Thanks Vince, it did take a little while to put together but re-visiting the event while editing wasn't too great a hardship. It's probably the last big upload for this year so soon you'll be able to reclaim your Sundays, at least for a while ...

Thanks once again for a great showing of automotive specialties. It's hard to pick a favorite from over 2 1/2 hours of cars, but even though you may have seen one of the few Iso Rivolta LeLe's with RHD in the world, I'm glad you spotted the early red AC Ace in "owned" condition. My first ride in a sports car as a young lad was a white AC Ace (about a 1957) with black interior that looked in very much the same condition as the one you spotted. That was about 1962 and it was owned by a college friend of my brother's. It was in the fall when I was taken for a ride and it had no top (hood). True sports car experience.

The 1930 Phantom II at 1:08:00 has an engine of 5668cc according to DVLC which is not a standard RR engine capacity, which would be 7668cc so I guess it is an error on the DVLC system. Who'd have thought it!

Rick that Model A would be 1929. 28 and 29 had a short grill and the bonnet dipped down at the cowl in front of the windscreen. They also had shorter front mudguards (sorry wings to you). 1930 and 31 had a longer grill and the cowl and bonnet were the same height at the screen. The front wings flowed out more too. How can you tell this one is a 29 you say?.... well easy with the open cars like the tourer and roadster like this one had outside door handles for 1929 while the 28 did not, you had to open the doors from inside. Thanks for the in depth coverage, lots of new cars to see. Looking forward to seeing your Pilot in detail.
