- This happened towards the end of the Gigantour, in Summer 2005. From Mike Portnoy's tourography:
"Mike's drum duet with Richard Christy (Howard Stern Show) featured excerpts of Hot For Teacher (Van Halen), YYZ (Rush), Run To The Hills & Where Eagles Dare (Iron Maiden), Raining Blood (Slayer) and many others - some of which featured accompanyment from John Petrucci on guitar"
I love both drummers but I gotta say Richard Christy is on a high level..his style and technique is different from your normal drummer
After Mike says "Mr. Richard Christy from the Howard Stern Show, what do you think?" at 1:25, a guy in the audience yells "And Death!" He knows what's up.
So Mike values howard stern more than Death??
Mike is one of the best but was brave bringing an elite drummer on stage. Richard could take his job in a second. Mike never played at the speed of Christie. IMHO. Now the hate comments.....
Christie practiced 9 hours a day, usually with weights on his feet
On Dream Theater's World Turbulence Tour, I believe it was a pre-tour show. Mike Portnoy brought up Mike Mangini to play on the Siamese Kit with him! Really? I’m not writing a hate comment, I just never thought Richard was anywhere near as good as Portnoy. But regardless they’re both bad ass!
RC fucking destroys it here. How he doesn't have more wide spread recognition amazes me.
