My MK7 VW Golf R Blew up after 1,500 Miles

- Little annoyed.... Have driven this thing 1,500 miles since buying it in October and it's already blown up. And the reasoning of why it blew up is absolutely abused and could have been avoided. Merry Christmas everyone!

For once it’s not a Subaru, win in my books!
My subarus have never done this lol
🤣🤣🤣
VW is how you say Subaru in Germany 😁
@@marcosj809 😂😂😂
Brother.... I’m so sorry.... you work so hard for what you have. I felt the excitement with the VW up to this point.
I Have a built 06 STI. A 12 WRX hatch. And my daily is a 16 WRX E60 FBO. Have never had a Subaru blow up.
Sorry for your bad luck : (
Obviously engine sounds pretty rough. Hard to tell from video but could be rod knock, or its worth double checking to make sure a rocker arm didn't get popped and is floating around the valve cover. Pretty easy to tell in person where noise is coming from. Seems like you know what you're doing, just some feedback from someone familiar with these engines.
Eyyyy, we were just watching some of your MK8 stuff the other day, appreciate the feedback on it! On the bright side thr noise comes and goes but it still falls on its face every now and then. Have a feeling that piece of plug is bouncing around in the engine somewhere 🙃
What's up Paul? How common are rocker arm issues on MK7 R's?
@@KMFDM781 Rare. Usually a failure is caused by over rev
"it's a sound that'll kill your heart" brings back the trauma when my 15 blew up. you got this tanner. makes me sad to see cause literally just saw you with the car when I stopped by Modgarage, but been following you for a while I know you're a man of progress so KEEP ON PUSHING!
💪💪💪💪
My heart and spirits share your pain Tanner. Positive vibes for the best outcome. Health and peace to you and yours for the new Year. Remember that life could be worse!
Always, hope yall are having a good holiday ❤
I'm gutted for you bro, that knock sounds brutal.. But if I've learned anything from watching your channel it's that you have always figured it out and have perseverance like no other. Hammer down and keep moving forward homie. You got this
Hardest part is always the financial side of things but hoping for some type of resolution 😭
@@Smeediathe fact that the plugs were covered in oil seems to indicate a bigger issue then the spark plug electrode falling off. (or i am just misinformed and golfs just burn shit loads of oil)
Damn dude. So sorry this happened to you on Christmas eve. Hope you have a good year ahead! Stay safe! ✌️
Hope you had a good Christmas my friend ❤
@@Smeedia Oh yeah! We had a Subie day! Donuts every where. Lol
That sucks! Really sorry that happened to you, Tanner. Hopefully everything ends up working out for the best. Hang in there, man!
Appreciate it my friend and hoping for a positive outcome 🤞
Please keep us up to date on this situation 🙌🏽
Definitely will 🙏❤
Damn dude, that’s a bummer… especially on Christmas. I hope it works out for you but expect I’ll see VW videos in the near future (“hope for the best, expect the worst” mentality).
Keep your head up, seen you struggle through Karma and look what that car became!
Very true, hoping for some positive outcome 🤞
As I am currently going through a short block replacement with my 19 sti, I feel your pain. For the dealership scenario I can tell you from working at a dealership there is a low chance you will get any help which sucks. This is also a dealership to dealership basis but the used vehicle inspection most dealerships go over are safety based, they will check all of the points like brakes tires, ball joints etc. but they won’t touch anything maintenance related other than an oil change. And if they have history of spark plugs being done they won’t even take one out to check them. You could have some kind of argument on your side if the spark plugs were done at said dealership because the spark plugs actually have a warranty on them so they could potentially still be in warranty.
At this point just hoping for the best 😖
My 2018 WRX #4 rod bearing went at 55,000 miles. Dealer: "Do you have all your oil change receipts?" Denied!
@@Smeedia yea if they are a good dealership then they will atleast help out somehow
@@Chris-vg8ql Did you tune it or keep it stock ?
It's been a while bud and sad to hear it 😓 i feel the frustration and emotions man. Sending you mucho love and positivity your way and may it be just this BS for the end of year so that the new year brings in much better and happier things to match your positivity and spirit that you always give us. ❤️
Appreciate the kind words and the support my friend, merry Christmas and just hoping for a positive outcome 🙏
Dude, Tanner. So sorry this happened. Hopefully, and I'm sure it will, it all turns out good in the end. Merry Christmas, I hope you have no further unpleasant surprises like this!
Merry Christmas my friend and hoping for the best 🤞
Man that’s crazy! I’m sorry to hear and hope you get it all figured out. I bought my Mk7 R in 2017 brand new and has been modified since 500 miles on the dash. I maintained it religiously and never once had a hiccup or check engine, I’m heavily modified as well! I hope you get some answer from that dealership!
Glad to hear yours had been going 💪 honestly live thr platform but has left a sour taste after this 😖
He messed up buying a used German sports car . 66k is a lot of miles for a German car .
@@midnightquest9758 hard to say, depends on the cars previous owners. This platform itself is pretty reliable, It’s weakest link was really only the clutch. The motor itself is really good for the most part.
Liked video out of solidarity only. Very sad to see this pop up. As you said, really hope the dealership lives up to its reputation. Keep your head up my dude!
Hoping for a positive outcome 🤞
Damn dude so sorry! I'm so happy I didn't buy a golf R, I ended up getting a steal on a 2014 wrx hatch 36k miles I've been watching all of your old videos super informative!!! I'm sure you'll get this sorted best of luck man!!!!
Hoping for a positive outcome and going to try and make something happen
Even though it's not a subaru I'm sorry for this unfortunate situation. I hope you get this all worked out. Merry Christmas to you and your family. 🙏
Merry Christmas Randy and hoping something positive comes from this 😪
I feel your pain. I bought an Evo x back in 2014 and the engine blew in less than 100 miles of owning it. The car was heavily modified.
I ended up having the engine replaced and found out that the engine that blew had weld marks on it, so it had cracked at some point.
The dealership refused to help me and I took them to court.
What happened in court?! 😳
I had the same exact thing happen with my Jetta. Misfire started happening on the way home of a long drive. Bought plugs and coils and towed it home and one of the plugs looked the same, electrode was missing on the end of one of the plugs, replaced all the plugs and coils and it was FINE. The electrode must have made it's way straight out the exhaust and I got lucky. Really happy it wasnt the alternative.
😪😪😪😪😪
At what mileage did this happen to you?
@@germanengineering204 these were rs7 plugs with maybe 5 or 6 k miles on them. Mind you the plug and the coil went out at the same time, same milage on the coils as the plugs. The coils I believe were Läger brand if I remember correctly. But my car is stage 2+ and sees a healthy amount of WOT. Regardless I replaced the coils with rs3 coils that time around and I still went with premium ngk rs7 plugs gapped one step colder. I double check the gap myself each time they usually need a slight adjustment. Probably won't use Läger ever again. I'm most likely going to use APR coils in the future. They claim to have a genuine advantage in ignition spark over stock/s3/rs3 not to mention they look really good. Also my vehicle is not a golf R but rather a 2014 Jetta with a non mqb gen 3 1.8 TSI motor. The motors are almost the same except mine lacks the VVL and has a different and much shittier turbo setup.
sorry to hear that dude! Best of luck with the VW dealership. I hope you still have a great Holiday with your friends and fam regardless. Your channel has provided w me so much subi knowledge, I appreciate you!!! I currently have a stage 2 tuned hawkeye with only 66k miles on the stock motor. A gem for sure. Trying to decide if I want to do a full build on it down the road, or if I want to just get reliability mods and switch to a new platform in a couple years. We'll have to see! Cheers man
That thing is a gem! Hoping for the best with the VW 😭
Went camping at the coast for a bit. I'm catching up on my smeedia and I see this!
Bro.. my heart (and stomach) dropped. Got tha feels for you for sure.
Cars with the dealer now so hoping for the best 😭
Heads up, there is no “valve cover”, or traditional gasket on the golf r, it’s anaerobic sealant because the cover holds the cams down. You’ll also need to replace the high pressure fuel pump gasket and cam gear gasket.
Good to know, I know the valve cover is also the cam caps with these engines as well
So interesting. Vw does things do differently on things you wouldn’t expect.
Thank god for the Evo and STi Boxer 6, you are building them fresh :) and you will know every little part and piece :)
Big facts!
So sorry to hear of this happening to you good luck with everything!
Hoping for some positive outcomes 🤞🤞🤞
Man I am so sorry to see this! I really hope they help you out. The silver lining is there's always good content to come from these situations. I hope you had a good xmas and keep your head up!
True but it's also not a video series I wanted to do right now 😭😪😅
If it comes down to it I will 200% take you up on that! 🙏🙏🙏
Look into your state’s lemon law to see if it falls under that category, most states have a time frame that covers you for any major issues or repeat issues that you have with a vehicle even if it was sold as is. Good luck with the golf r and I hope they don’t give you a hard time with either getting it fixed or giving you your money back
At this point I don't even want my money back, they can keep it. Ideally I'd like them to just buy it back for what I owe
Usually lemon laws only apply to brand new cars not used unfortunately at least that's how it works in Nevada
@@the3bos91 every state is different and I was referring to the “as is” thing more in his situation. I’m saying that because in my state if a car dealer lists a car “as is” they still fall under the lemon law if there’s something that impairs it’s use or safety within a certain time frame.
@@Smeedia I hear you man nobody wants to go through a huge process in this situation. Hopefully they throw in a new engine in the car and get you going ASAP or just buy it back
It won’t because it’s a used car.
Had the same thing happen with my 2019 sti, within two months the transmission blew to pieces when I was downshifting haha then months later I sold the car due to crazy knock numbers and dam dropping on accessport and the next owner bought it and had the engine blow up within 2 months of owning it
😭😭😭😭 what'd you get after it?
Sending some good vibes your way Tanner! Sucks this happened to you brother. Hope the dealership helps out. Best of luck man!
Getting towed down in the morning so hoping for the best 🤞
I feel for you man!! It’s the worst when something breaks and it isn’t your fault. That reminds me of when my steering rack started leaking everywhere on my 17 STI and I was only 3k miles outside of my warranty and my local dealership told me to kick rocks and charged me full price.
Hopefully the dealership can help you man!
Honestly even if the dealer just buys it back for what I owe I'd be happy
Can't believe the VW rod knock. I've had a # of VW's and all rock solid. Have made $$ on some Jettas
It's such a sad sound 😪😪😪
Hey Tanner sorry to hear your bad luck with that VW. Check over the PPI report... If it only says they serviced the spark plugs technically the service tech could have pulled and re-gapped the plugs which would weaken the electrode, especially if the plugs were already old as hell to begin with. Re-gapping old plugs probably led to the catastrophic engine failure. More than likely the electrode got stuck keeping the valve open which made contact with the top of the piston. These new style iridium tip plugs are very sensitive usually have only 1or2 shots at adjusting the plug gap before it's weakend and can fail.
FYI to anyone out there buying used out of warranty vehicles from the dealer always opt for the extended warranty negotiate and wait till the very end before you leave the finance manager's office for a better deal....you can always cash it out.
Tanner when you go back to the dealer 1st person you asked to speak with is the general manager only.
I'll be calling down there Monday morning and gling down in the evening when the lady gets home to see what we can make happen
Just out of curiosity since I work in the automotive industry, why would a dealership re gap spark plugs when they’re already pretty cheap to just replace especially at dealership prices?
@@subaetae2744 Service techs are paid by the job and if that car was drawing high traffic internet leads and sales would need PPI done so it could be sold! Maybe when Tanner was there to purchase the car wasn't quite ready... but they rushed it through PPI to get it sold.
@@DJ_Driven this is true, shitty to hear that something as simple as new plugs couldve prevented this😢
@@subaetae2744 Yes more than likely a fresh set of spark plugs would have prevented the problem. These types of cars could have been fully modded and put back to stock before getting traded in you just never know. Hopefully the dealer makes it right.
So sorry that happened to you bro that is really shitty hopefully like you said in this video the dealership will just do the right thing and take care of it for you can't imagine how frustrated you have to be I've been in the subie game for going on 6 years now so I'm well aware of the frustrations of the ups and downs of that platform but I sort of feel like it's an extra kick in the pants for it to happen on this new platform for you in the bone stock form that it is in good luck man hope they do the right thing and just take care of it all for you and you won't be out any money really out of pocket anxious to see the next video update on the situation.
Contacted the dealer today and she goes back tomorrow so hoping for the best here 🤞 will definitely keep everyone updated
Bro that sucks. I hope it all works out man. I know I was one to warn you about vw stuff but I would have never guessed something like this. I really do hope it get fixed. Good luck with it all

I feel this pain in a spiritual level. My 15 sti just got a bent valve on Christmas Eve and it has just gotten all 4 rotors upgrades:/ goodluck brotha hope it goes good!!
Hopefully those valves get corrected quick 😭😭😭
@@Smeedia might as well build some of the head since it’s already coming out. Stage 2 iag block so might as well do the heads now. Any suggestions on parts?
How much power you shooting for?
At minimum I would do valves. Valve Guides, oil seals and springs. If you can afford it, snag some cams
@@Smeedia I was thinking of getting an fp green and staying around 450+. I was reading the forums and they were talking about it’s not really necessary to do your heads unless your pushing 600+. I wanna know your opinion on doing some slight upgrades or just going oem?
Personally I prefer to over build. But I'd still suggest cams 🔥
Time to try the focus rs😁

When I bought my 17STI in 19 I had a bad synchros, they took 6 months to fix it due to the pandemic only to get the car back with rod knock. I see your face and feel your pain. I hope VW takes care of you the way Subaru did for me.
So far seems like the GM and the tech I spoke with are more than willing to help. But time will tell 😖
Nooooo!!!! Man and here i had my fingers AND toes crossed it was plugs or coil packs 😔 so bummed to hear this news... And to hear that god awful rod knock. Spirit crusher? Yes. Oh dear 😭
This reminds of of an older lady who's driving a late 90s early 00s accord here with a BAD knock. Damn cars been going daily like that for several weeks now.
Here's hoping that the dealer pulls through, or, at least something happens that makes it so you can get that BRZ. You deserve it after this
Just hoping for a positive outcome at this point 😭😭😭
Damn bruh this sucks! I have a 2016 golf r been in the groups for years this is a pretty rare occurrence on the R’s hope you keep and build it!
Definitely not a fun time to have with it, absolutely live the car but a huuuuge downer. I'll prob get rid of the R if the dealer works with me. Everything I had for the R will just go onto out MK7 GTI. That spark plug left a real sour taste behind 😭😭😭
I had similar issue when doing intake mani on my 02 wrx years ago. So when pulling the manifold I dropped a fuel hose clamp in the intake port without noticing. Drove it back home about 6 miles away once I got home it started knocking. Do that piece ended up stuck in the head since the piston smashed it. It sounded like rod knock but it wasn't. So hopefully it's just stuck on the head and the piston is contacting it and your able to get the head fixed. Sucks that they didn't do their job and actually inspected it. 100% dealers fault and whichever "technicians" touched the car. Goodluck man
Seems like that may be the case for us as well, the knock sound went away this morning and came back so guessing that piece if metal is somewhere in that engine
This is why we stick to our Subarus! That sucks man good luck on the upcoming year hope everything goes good with the golf man
Thanks dude and hoping to get something resolved
I'll poor one out for you homie merry Christmas.
you'll conquer this as well carma surely gave you a good run of problems but sometimes we find the love in the work on our cars as weird as that might sound. Good luck you'll definitely pull this out.

Similar thing for my 2016 Golf R. Drive it to work like any other day, nothin abusive. Pulled into my parking spot and it shut off while parking. Thought I stalled it (manual) but couldn’t get it to start. Tried jumping it with nothing. Got it towed and found out at 65,000 original miles, engine was seized. Stage 1 tune only, just an intake and stage 3 clutch. No smells, leaks, smoke or anything from the engine. Never had a single issue what so ever in my 1.5 years and then immediately ruined. Now I’m in deep trying to get an s3 motor in it with over 80k. I want to die, it’s the most annoying thing in my life. I understand all your emotions man.
Absolutely lived thr R while I had it but that killed my experience with it, sorry to hear about yours 💔 we also have a 2016 GTI and has given us 0 issues. Hopefully your rebuild is quick and problem free 🙏

Thank you Tyler and hoping for the best either this one 😭
Damn this really sucks... Had the same thing happen to me but I wasn't nearly unlucky as you; Bought a 17 wrx with 69k miles, got to about 70,400 and the clutch burnt out on me and I was an hour away from home. The dealership worked with me and paid for the labor side as I went with an ACT clutch. I hope the dealership will work with you, given they were "serviced" Keep your head up!
Hoping that the dealer is able to make something happen 😪😪😪
This is why I didn't have much faith in that VW. I've had nothing but not so pleasant experiences with Volkswagen's, and this solidifies my opinion. I'm sorry it happened to you Tanner, I wish it hadn't because I knew you were liking the car.
Last time I buy a German car 🙃
I feel it man, granted I drive and work on older shit, but I only have like 4 1/2 out of 12 vehicles up and running and road worthy in some way. 2022 is the year for me to try and get caught up among the fleet so I can have more fun in 2023!
Sameeee, hoping 2022 will be the year they all live again
You hate to see it.. so sorry that happened. I had a 42k mile, certified preowned MK7 GTI that left me stranded 3 times due to to stuck open injectors. After 3 trips to the dealership and the same issues coming back up I sold it. Hopefully they make it right!
Hoping so, seems like everyone's ownership is super hit or miss with these cars 😭

Sorry for your loss bro… very unlucky situation .. The golf Rs are good cars ive put over 100k kms on it without really any major issues.
I genuinely love the car but just a shifty situation that could have been avoided
Damn dude thats horrible! i had the same with an STI when i first bought it and drove it for literally 2 weeks. I bought private so loss on my end. I know how you're feeling and i wouldn't be this calm on tape... lol... I probably would have thrown the camera at it 2 minutes in... hahaha Hats off to you!
Lol wanted to just push the car off a cliff 😅
I'm really really hoping the dealer helps out. I actually want to see more add-ons and vids on Golf R in the future.
Hoping for some type of resolution 🤞
Had a Tornado Red 2015 R that I got for steal because it was a lease return. Took it to stage 3 with zero notable issues. I guess it's true what they say about getting a used R being a dice roll. I'm Subbed in that 2018 STI limited now. Keep your head up though man once you fix it that R will probably never let you down with proper maintenance. EA888 DNA dates back to wwii.
Only ever heard good things about thr MK7 up until this happened so definitely not a good time. Hoping for the best 🤞
Hey Tanner, what settings do you have the gtc 300 set to for the 17 sti? I have mine tilted all the way forward but open to your opinion.
I had mine set in the middle 🙏🙏🙏
Man I’m so sorry. Such a bummer. Hope you get help from the dealer and/or build the motor.
Worst case scenario we build the Golf R and send it but hoping for the best 🤞🤞🤞
When I first bought my WRX, I didn't really beat on it at all (still new to turbos and sports cars) but I knew enough to not break anything. A few months roll by (don't remember if I did oil changes in the period of time) and the engine starts with a little fluttering noise on start-up and upon taking it to a shop I was told it was in fact knocking. Had to invest 1200 into a new 60k mile engine and 3400 into getting it put into the car and have head gaskets done, whole 9. The car runs fine (mostly) and I've been religious on making sure I keep it maintained and changing the oil on it. Rod knock is something that destroys you as soon as you can hear it start or become a loud noise so it's really sad to see it down but hopefully, things will all be running happily soon enough!
It's literally ther worst noise to hear 😭 crushes you immediately
You don’t remember if you changed your oil in a few months and your car blew up ? Nahh I don’t believe that…. Dude these cars need high high end oil and it needs to be changed at 3000k that’s legit the worst thing you can do is neglect oil changes the factory oil gauge on your dash is legit a dummy gauge I change my oil and it’s still a gold color when I do 2 sti kept stock block with 400 whp for 103k until i put the iag blocks in
@@marcmiller8469 So, I bought car and I'm led to believe it had pre-existing mechanical issues I MAY have made worse. I was an excited kid who just got a car with a turbo in it for the first time. Got home with it and went all willy nilly with pulls, no gauges, bone stock. Come a COUPLE weeks later, most likely not months rather I started hearing a metallic flutter coming from the engine on startup and it gradually got worse into a definitive knock, also recall some oil consumption in the process that I didn't maintain well at the time. Got the engine replaced and have treated the engine/car like it's my child. I only use (now) Motul engine as it's the best for subarus, change the oil every 2500k, have the AOS, new spark plugs. I have multiple parts (been hoarding) I am going to put onto it come the soon future. My car didn't come with any gauges or anything in relation to engine maintenance. All of that is being put into the car for non blowy up purpose lol. I've learned a good amount in the time I've had the car to know NOW how to treat and maintain these cars. IAG block might be in it's future as well....XD
Sorry to hear that, especially for sb who honestly looks after their flock...
Hoping for a positive outcome 😪
Sorry to hear about this mess bro I know how upsetting this can be, i used to have VW, not bad car afterall but when it comes to a problem, i hated it, im stick to my STi.
Do not blame you one bit
Exact same thing happened to me on a 17 R RS7 plugs - dropped cylinder 3 spark plug electrode. The electrode in the cylinder is making that sound (it’s not rod knock). I pulled the intake manifold and found the electrode, after which the sound stopped. Have a ton of dents on top of the cylinder, but other than that have had 5k miles with no misfires, and no excess oil consumption.
Went Back to OEM plugs. Good luck.
Going to try peeking in there to check things out, these are just stock R plugs so fingers crossed 🤞
Sounds like my run in with a Pilot.Bought from a Honda dealership, then sold at an auction. It went to a place in Edmonds when we bought it.We thought we were good because it came from Honda.Drove it home.Transmission error.Guess what,5k in a new trans.BUT I guess youll be swapping a motor.Good content.
True. Definitely not something I wanted to do 😅

Hoping for the best with them so we shall see 🤞🤞🤞
Fuck, not the news I was hoping to hear. My condolences homie, I pray the dealership does right by you 🙏
Keep your spirits up T, I know "easier said than done" but don't let this kill your motivation. You still got big things coming and you know it ❤
We still going to make progress where we can but huge downer 😪
@@Smeedia I can only imagine, I'm so sorry buddy 😭
Put it this way this way though, if Günther ends up with a new IE block, he'll be back and stronger than ever. I understand your pain though 💔
Sorry to hear about the problem with the Golf, just glad here in Australia we are covered by the "Used car statutory warranty"
A used car statutory warranty applies on all dealer-sold passenger cars that have travelled less than 160,000km, are less than 10 years old, and do not exceed the luxury car tax price threshold. The warranty is valid for three months or 5,000km from date of purchase. This warranty covers most items on a car related to safety, reliability and roadworthiness.
Hope everything works out for you.
Wish that we had something similar like that here as well 😪
When I bought my 07 wrx from the dealer it was on 100k km and due for timing kit, couldn't see that it had been done in the service history, told them I wasn't going to buy it unless I could see it was done, they did it no questions asked fortunately.
I had a golf r and the only issue I always ran into was the check engine light that was for the catalytic converter even after putting a new one on they are good cars but dam that sucks now it gives u a reason to make your own engine.
We could but definitely not something I wanted to do right now 😪
Sorry this happened to you man. I used to own a Volvo 740 T and it broke a few times and it was expensive, and I had to order most parts. No parts stores had anything in stock for it. Finally my trans went, and I sold the car. I swore on that day to never buy a European car again as long as I live. Too expensive to repair. Good luck man. JDM and American car companies only for me
Think I'll be sticking with the same going forward 😳
You'll get through it!!
🙏🙏🙏
Am so sorry. Hope the dealer or even VoA come to help you out. They are great motors. Fix it and keep looking forward. And for gosh sake leave the A/C in it.
No warranty with this one, this was suppose to be the reliable one 😪
In a world where the project car you bought in a barn is the closest thing you have running and driving😂😂 may God bless your soul and hopefully that dealership helps you out in every way possible
Lol this is a weird universe we live it.... 😅
Man that’s crazy, In the videos it hasn’t seemed like you been driving hard and straining the internals nor have you modified it a crazy amount. Such and unlucky situation man, I’m sorry but I hope you can still have a solid Christmas:(
I haven't driven it hard at all, literally just been cruising around as a daily driver 😭
My condolences and now you have me pissing myself about the gti I just bought. I guess I know what I'm doing first thing Monday
Make sure the check your plugs 😭
Really crappy situation. 😔 If you need help or transportation. Willing to help out however I can. Merry Christmas!
Always appreciate the help my man, merry Christmas 🎅
When he said I have three cars and literally none of them work really hit close to home
Your not alone my friend 🙏
I feel for you. I’ve been a Honda subaru tech for 46 years. My son insisted on buying a 2015 GTI. Totally stock. Has the dual clutch. Bought it from a used car dealer and 2 weeks later the water pumped leaked which is a known problem. They fixed it at no charge. I’ve been maintaining it myself. Drove 5 k miles. He gets stuck with it. Find out the same thing happened to him with the spark plug issue. Piece broke off but the plugs were changed! Time for a motor. Got a used one with 48 k on it. Drove it 3 k and the turbo shits the bed. Replaced that but now the low oil pressure light comes on because metal went through the oil pump. So now it’s getting a pump and hopefully with a couple of oil flushes it didn’t get to the bearings. The moral of the story is stay away from these cars! They are overly unesassarily engineered shit boxes that are nothing but headaches. Eurotrash. Stick with a Honda or subaru
Hey man, would love to know how this worked out? I’m after a very similar situation with my Mk7.5 golf r (also a manual). However mine has no indication as to why it happen & I have the car for 3 years meticulously maintained. Came across this video while looking for some answers as to why it happened on my own car 😢.
I feel your pain man. I bought a 2011 WRX from a VW dealership last year. After 3 months I learned it had piston seal failure. I got it all replaced under warranty and now I have a leak in the CAM seal. Even though it’s still under warranty they refuse to touch it anymore.
Cam seals are not too bad to do but a PIA non the less, never a good time 😭
That sucks and I could just be really bad at my job, but ppi/used car inspections dont get plugs pulled. Its a fairly detailed mpi and if theres an external oil leak you might have a leg to stand on as to why it wasnt looked into/fixed. You may get lucky, will stay tuned for updates.
Hoping for thr best so we will see 😭😭😭
Hearing this situation hurts my soul. This is obviously a result of dealer incompetence. I hope they work with you to get this resolved.
At this point just hoping for a positive outcome 😪😪😪
