- It was my first time flying American Airlines long haul International flight! I flew on American Airlines Flagship B777-300/ER from Hong Kong to Los Angeles. I was pleasantly surprised by the product offerings on American Airlines Business Class! I am very used to the high standards on Asian and Middle Eastern carriers but AA did not disappoint on my international flight.
On arrival at LAX, I checked out the AA flagship lounge and flagship dining.
Now I've finally flown the big 3 US carriers (Delta, United and American) international. I must say i am very impressed by all 3 carriers making huge improvement in terms of hard and soft products on their International flights (domestic still a different game and story), they've all came a long way. I was very used to the Asian and Middle Eastern standard but I really think the US carriers are capable of delivering great flight experiences. There are still lot of rooms to improve as always. I will try to do a comparison video in the near future based on my experience.
You should try Iraqi airways. London to Erbil.
You are right. A comparison video would be very nice. They have a very good product but the experience must also be at par. That's why a personal touch of each staff to their passengers has been a signature of most AEM markets.
If you had to answer now, which of the big 3's products do you like most?

Nice review Sam and as a former AA Flight Attendant that still loves the airline, it’s great to see AA doing such a great job! The food when I flew for AA in 2000 was amazing! We would start with on Perignon Champaign severed with Caviar followed by an additional 4 courses and by far he best entree was the Chateaubriand cooked on the plane and carved for each individual passengers. AA Flagship Service was second to none. Happy Landings my friend!

Oh Sam. I’m a flight attendant for AA and this is my route ... I cried watching this as we have no idea when we will be flying again. I know we will fly HKG again and it will be amazing but my wings for now are checking out some places I’ve not flown in 30+ years around the domestic system. I totally get where you coming from. But in economy we should not expect more than what we've paid right?
@Sam AA's Economy Class is not cheap compared to other airlines. I believe that because they are the largest airlines in the world, their overhead costs are higher, thus higher priced tickets.

The quality of ambiance in American Airlines is very nice with integral modules having in built electronic appliances and the bon appetite provided on the flight seemed to be delicious. I really appreciate your such a wonderful blogs about airlines all around the world. Keep it up Mr.Sam and I am looking forward for your new updates.

What a great presentation to get from the LAX Flagship Chef. That burger sounds amazing
I fly American Airlines a lot and its true they do not like filming very much. I also have a few friends that are flight attendants on Delta and United and they do not like filming either. I really think its a USA thing. But I have had some American Airlines flight attendants that think its really cool and have gone out of there way to help me film and even point out places of interests on landings at places like London Heathrow. The flight attendants on American are usually way more cool with me filming and taking pictures on my flights to Asia I've noticed.
4J is the best seat on the AA 77W. Love the mini business class cabin and the restroom behind it is huge!!

I've done this flight in Business Class. Not a bad deal, you can use Cathay lounges, the service is good, the food is so-so but I really like the 1-2-1 reverse herring layout, I always sleep well.

Very classy for the chef to come out and explain everything
AA, and most major airlines, know about Sam and rolled out the Red Carpet for him. It's great marketing for them and it costs them nothing.
They realize who Sam is and his presence in airline flight reviews and commentary. I doubt if you were to fly First Class, you would even glimpse the chef.
It's not 'Class'; it's 'Kiss Ass'. Nothing wrong with that on AA's part as it's all about putting a good light on your product. I'm wondering how receptive the cabin crew to being filmed be on Sam's next flight. I'm looking forward to seeing it.

I think you are right, the on board supper isn’t that impressive at all but the pajamas and mattress are awesome.
The setting of the plane is very similar to Cathay and I think the bedding is the winner.

Sam, I flew American business class in a 777 to Shanghai from US not to long ago and it was slightly different. They didn’t do the single tray meal for the dinner and instead had a regular service and also no pjs. Still was a great experience. I did look for a video of yours about it when I was trying to decide if I should go business or not.

I know I'm a bit late to comment, but very nice trip report! I've flown with AA from JFK to MXP, and then from MXP to MIA, and I've had good experiences on both legs of the trip (minus the Boeing 767 aircraft they used on the MXP-MIA leg). Just like how Simply Aviation put it, honestly, whether an airline is good or bad is not dependent on what an airline offers you, but whether one's expectations are met depending on the reputation of the airline. So I don't think people should hate on American Airlines if you get what you paid for. Heck, I'd rather fly with American than any airline from mainland China, I'd say. Keep up the good work, Sam!
Why do people dislike American? It’s just like every other airline to be honest. I’ve flown with them my entire life and they have never disappointed me.

The way I see it is that for the money you pay, you can get more value and much better quality service with other legacy carriers i.e. gulf and asian carriers.
